 Noble Born opened the door before they could even knock. He stood on the threshold and, in their presence, did not bother to keep up his act. There was nothing charming about his smile; it was tilted up with wicked amusement. This was going to be an interesting. The night before Noble Born and La Llorona had crossed paths. It had been a while since they’d spoken last. The water witch had a new pet to entertain her and Noble Born only really had use for her when he wanted to make Nevermore jealous. But the meeting had gone well and he’d asked her and Cirrus over for dinner. She’d accepted. "Come inside and take a seat," he said. "I’m just finishing up dinner." He moved aside and beckoned to the large lounge area and the leather seats warmed by a crackling fire. ~ o ~ To say that he didn’t want to be here was an understatement. He had nearly thrown up in the bathroom before they left and had then marched to their double dinner date a step behind La Llorona with a glassy eyed sense of doom. Cirrus wasn’t even sure why he’d said yes. If he’d simply hidden under the bed there wasn’t much LaLo could have done, short of drag him out by his hooves. But he had said yes and here he was, on the awnings of a house right out of a horror movie. He’d half-expected a bolt of lightning to flash ominously in the sky as they approached. And Noble Born was even worse, the look he flashed Cirrus made the doomsayer feel like a bug. A bug that was about to be squashed. Without the act to cover up his less than delightful attributes, he was terrifying. "L-ladies first," Cirrus stammered, holding a shaking hoof out for La Llorona.

 La Llorona's eyes sparkled when the door opened. She'd been looking forward to this all day and nothing short of the end of the world would have been able to stop this from happening. Even if she'd had to physically drag Cirrus here by his hind hooves. It had been a relief, however, that he'd said yes. As much as she loved spending her days at home torturing him she missed her "friends". She wasn't sure how she felt about that look Noble tossed at Cirrus, though. Despite never being to or in their home before La Llorona felt calm and moved inside towards the lounge with confidence. She flicked her tail against her fiance's side as she moved past him. "Thank you, Little Ghost. Come along inside and close the door behind you. I promise they won't hurt you." ... Much.

That was less than reassuring. Cirrus hesitated before crossing over the threshold and when he did, he felt as though he had signed his life away. He gave the outside one last longing look before closing the door to his freedom and shuffling obediently after La Llorona. It looked better inside than out, he had to give it that but he could only image what demonic horrors lurked deeper within the house. And here he was without any salt or chalk marches, iron or charms. He was powerless. Not sure what to do once they were in the lounge, he simply stood there and stared around him as if expecting the walls to start bleeding. ~ o ~ As soon as they’d found their way to the lounge, Noble had flown up the stairs to the room he shared with Nevermore, knocking gently before peeking inside. "Our quests are here," he told her in a tone that suggested he would like her to hurry downstairs to entertain them. "Table is set, I’m just going to rest the roast. And you look lovely." Then he left her, heading down to the kitchen to do the last preparations on their meal.

 Nevermore was both amused and perplexed by her brother's out of the blue hospitality. The pair of them weren't exactly the types who had people over for dinner given the nature of their temperaments and..other things. But none the less, he'd already both invited couple and started cooking when he'd told her, so there was no room for debate. And damn right she looked lovely. She wasn't much of a primper beyond the necessary maintenance hair like her required, but tonight she'd put a little extra effort into her looks. Her make up was especially on point, and she'd put some extra curl to her hair. Lalo would look more like walking pond scum than usual next to her. She had crushed a couple cones of sandalwood incense and mixed it with crushed shimmering make up powder. She sprinkled the concoction over her wings and then flipped vigorously, covering herself with a slight shimmer and the slightly sweet, heady, earthy smell of the sandalwood. Deeming herself appropriate to be seen by others, Nevermore left the bedroom. The pegasus glided down the stairs elegantly and locked eyes with the quaking little stallion in their lounge. She approached Cirrus, eyes glimmering, and the smile of a hunter spotting some delicious prey. "Ah, little fortune teller!" she greeted Cirrus with a predator's purr and air kisses on his cheeks. "It's so wonderful to see you again! I must thank you so much for closing your store, I have much more business now! Though more of them want fortune telling which is rather dull, I manage to word a few thing that make them pick up an extra..item or two." She winked at him and finally acknowledged Lalo by talking about her and not to her. "Hmm..not what I was expecting when I told your love fortune, but everyone's tastes are different." She clapped her hooves together. "Ah! Maybe you will favor us with a tea reading after dinner and I will do some fortunes as well! It will be fun! Please sit before you fall over." she motioned for Cirrus and even daned to glance at Lalo and wave her hoof over towards the seating area.

Every nerve in her body buzzed in irritation once Nevermore was down the stairs and speaking to Cirrus. For a second she thought that maybe, just maybe, the two ladies could spend some time antagonizing each other and leave Cirrus out of things, but of course not. And of course they knew each other. Of course. They had once worked very similar jobs. Her eyes narrowed to murderous slits as Nevermore drew close to the ghostly pegasus and La Llorona did not miss that Cirrus looked like he was about to die. Again. "Yes, Little Ghost," she said finally but decidedly not to Nevermore. "Come sit with me before that cloud of incest ... I mean incense and eye-shadow chokes the life out of you." She patted at a cushion next to her and looked at him expectantly. "I mean honestly. How on earth are we going to appreciate the fabulous dinner Noble is preparing over that terrible stink, hmm?"

Cirrus froze like a rabbit in headlights, half-expecting Nevermore to take a chunk out of neck as she kissed the air next to his cheeks. Her words struck deep and true, the realization that he’d abandoned all of his customers, those who he had delighted in guiding towards a brighter future were now relying on the lying, spiteful word of a demoness. He felt sick. In trying to save them from the darkness, he had delivered them into something far worse. He opened his mouth to speak but the words came out at a pathetic whine, his chest so twisted by despair that he couldn’t say a thing. He turned his head desperately to La Llorona, surprised by his own relief when she broken up the interaction and gave him an escape. Cirrus went willingly to her side and perched himself at her side. Astraea Pandora noble's still prepping dinner, he'll be out soon 8P

Oh ho what was this? How interesting! These two were really...? It was all she could do not outwardly smirk as much as she was inwardly. Did Nobel bring these two home for her to torment? Oh how she loved that stallion! Ignoring both backhands Lalo had thrown at her, she settled herself on the lounge across from the pair to "entertain" them while they waited. "What a charming couple the both of you make! Really striking colors and temperaments. I'd ask how you two met but uhm, well, we all pretty much know that story now don't we?" a tiny snort of absolute delight. "I imagine it gets pretty awkward sometimes but you really have the best comeback for arguments don't you Cirrus?" she mimicked their voices. "You didn't take out the trash." "Well you drowned me when I was a foal!" Oh this was too, too good! It made her relationship status almost seem tame by comparison. "But I suppose you have to forgive the little oopsies in life when you're in love hmm?" Ruriska Wow I almost feel bad for this reply. Nev is mean man.

If it were possible for La Llorona to turn red in anger she had no doubt now that's what she'd be doing now. A red-hot rage burned in her chest and her muscles tensed as she held herself back from throwing herself and her horn at Nevermore. She sneered in the other woman's direction, but gently and for but a second touched Cirrus's shoulder reassuringly. She could forgive anything said to herself, she was a monster that could take care of herself, but no one talked to her Little Ghost like that. "Our conversations are none of your business nor would Cirrus say anything so cruel to me. Although I do wonder what your arguments with Noble must be like- Do you threaten to tell his mother on him? Oh. That's right she's your mother as well. Those family get-togethers must be so delightfully awkward. Tell me do either of you have relationships like this with your other siblings? Just to really keep it all in the family." She moved herself a smidge of an inch away from Cirrus at the comment about love. For his sake, of course. Her reply came out overly defensive and hasty: "And really, Nevermore, stop trying to make my toy cry. You'll break him and that's my job."

"Hmm you're right, I imagine Cirrus would never say anything like that, he is a rather kind soul. That's why I just can't fathom.." she trailed off for a moment appearing thoughtful. "Well opposites attract as they say!" She smiled at Lalo and took her comments in stride. My, my, my she'd never seen the unicorn so defensive and angry. "Actually we just have a good, old fashion row at each other and then a good, old fashion..well..we make up eventually." A small titter. "As for family get togethers, well, it's easy to look like you're a loving family when you truly love your family, however that love may be expressed. And our sister is quite happy with her girlfriend." she spoke of it breezily. "I must confess though I am jealous, I can't be out publicly with Noble in such a fashion as you two. I admire how you can put up with the whispers and stares." Not that they didn't already whisper anyway but at least very few had tangible proof. She faltered for a moment and stared. "Toy is it?" Ah, was that game then? She slowly grinned. "I see, I see, no feelings at all then?" Nevermore tsk tsked "How mean of you Lalo, I thought we were friends. You shouldn't bring toys over when you don't intend to share." she whined lightly. LOLLI qAq Sorry I like trading venom with Lalo ; 0 ;

She rolled her eyes as Nevermore prattled on, but then flinched. Why had she had to use the word toy? She should have anticipated Nev's reaction to that. What was wrong with her?! She shifted ever so slightly to lean forward and smiled as sweetly as she could. "I've never been good at playing with others," she snarled through the grin. "I'm not as kind as you are. It surprises me that you even let Noble out of the house where he could just get snatched up by any girl prettier then yourself. I guess I'm just not as trusting ... though, I wouldn't be if I were you." She reclined against the back of the couch again and smiled more genuinely. "The food smells delicious from here! Tell me, Nev, is your brother's cooking why you seem to be gaining weight?" Astraea Pandora plzdon'thateme ilu and nev is beautiful and perfect

You're so full of it your eyes are gonna turn brown. She thought of the others denials and evasions. She wasn't fooled a bit. Somehow something started there. Nevermore chuckled at the weight joke and smiled more easily. Huh..who would have thought the two of them could actually get along a little. "Noble Born knows there isn't anyone like me anywhere else in the world, no matter how pretty someone else may or may not be. I'm the only one who can satisfy his needs." she smirked, snickered and waved her hoof. "Not just THOSE needs mind you. And Noble DESPITE WHAT HE MAY THINK," she raised her voice so he could hear her in the kitchen. "..is quite irreplaceable to me. I can't bare to think of my life without him." After a brief pause of a happy sigh at the perfection that was the pair of them, Nev snarked; "Besides, better fat than continually water logged. I can't even begin to imagine a home that's part lake or sewer or something. That's where you used to live right? The sewer?" LOLLI qAq We might have to let Ruri have a turn eventually *cough*

Cirrus had hardly even breathed throughout the exchange between La Llorona and Nevemore. He sat glassy eyed, trying to be as small as possible and not become the focus of attention, though they both seemed occupied trading insults with each other. This was so uncomfortable. At one point he wondered if he could slip off the couch and slink away, but then Lalo had touched his shoulder, the lightest brush, and it kept him firmly in place. He just needed to stay quiet. Let them fight it out. He would be a ghost, unseen and unremarkable. Then they could go home and he would be able to have a cup of tea on his own couch in his own home. "She didn’t live in a sewer," the words slipped out before he even realized he was planning on speaking. "And our house is very nice." Though they would have to move somewhere bigger eventually, probably somewhere with a pond… Cirrus swallowed back the urge to scream and wished the ground would swallow him up. It was a relief for Cirrus when Noble, summoned by Nev’s rained voice, finally sauntered in. "Dinner is served," Noble told his guests with an amused lilt to his voice. He shared a quick glance with Nevemore that said, ‘I hope you’re having fun’ before beckoning everyone into the dining room. "Come along, please take a seat." The dining table had been set up with candles and full roast dinner; the massive slab of meat taking pride of place at the center. "That seemed to be a lively conversation," he remarked, pulling Nevermore’s seat out for her.

Cirrus' voice caught her off guard. Despite the surprise that he was the one to respond to Nev, and despite the bevvy of insults she had prepared, she instead just smiled. Her Cirrus was coming out of his shell if he could speak out against Nevermore. She'd clearly chosen well. Not that she'd ever admit that out loud. Still, when Noble came in to announce that dinner was ready she smiled sweetly and waited for him to lead Nev into the dining room. She leaned over and kissed him on the cheek. Then sauntered into the dining room as though it had never happened. "As always, Noble dear, your sister is as sharp as ever."

The kiss burning on his cheek, Cirrus trailed after La Llorona, trying not to get too close to Noble Born as he walked past. He slid into a seat and sat rigidly, staring at the hunk of meat still oozing blood that he was pretty sure was partially raw. As for Noble Born, he could only grin, gaze following Cirrus like a shark. The night was going even better than he could have hoped.

Nev had opened her mouth to reply, but was also startled by Cirrus actually expressing himself. Defending her now? It was amazing to watch this in action. She started to form a sentence when Noble announced food was ready. Well at least now she could pull her brother in on some of the fun. "Ah you know how it is when a couple of old marefriends get together.." she purred at Noble, pressing her muzzle into his cheek for an affectionate nuzzle and soft bite on his ear before setting in the chair held out for her. Food looked and smelled amazing, as always. Noble was an accomplished cook. Resting her chin on her hooves as dinner was being dished, she watched the little fortune teller turn slightly green and try to will himself invisible. Oh no, she wasn't going to have that. He'd spoken up, now he was even more fair game. "So tell us Cirrus, now that you are more familiar with Lalo then we are, what are her best qualities?" A wicked grin set in. "If she were to vanish tomorrow, what would you miss most? You too Lalo darling, same questions. And you can't say "everything" because that's my answer and you can't say "nothing" because that's a lie and it's quite rude and I'll be able to tell." Her fiery sunset eyes seem to light up and glow. You could believe she'd see through the lie as soon as it materialized in your brain. Yess! Dance on the end of the strings you two, let me bat at you some more! she thought devilishly.
