 It was strange to think back how long it's been since Calli had joined the herd. And in that time the grey stallion had little time to get to know her better. She had to be mentored and needed to spend most of her time with her mentor who wasn't him because it could be a conflict of interested. Illumi understood, after all his own father Lutra wasn't allowed to mentor him and it was possible that he might have been too easy or let things slide that should not have because they were friendly. She worked hard and it was best for her to achieve her goals on her own.
However her training seemed to be at an end and it was time for her to have her Lantern ceremony. He was using this opportunity to get to know the darker pelted mare he had met better. She had expressed that she wanted to create her own lantern, this wasn't uncommon. It was probably rarer that a horse took one of the lanterns that the herd had in storage. Actually in all the time that he could remember no one had taken one of the herd provided lanterns.
He didn't know what the mare had in mind for hers but he would accompany her. He made his way through the camp toward the area that Calli stayed. The fall weather had turned crisp and the tree's coloring had changed. It would be a wonderful day to spend with his new friend.

 Joy filled the dark colored mares heart.She had found a place which finally made her belong.It made her feel great to be in a place that accepted them so quickly and brought them in. Their little family went from a three soquili herd to a ten soquili herd. Even if she haven't met them all yet,Callie was more then happy to meet them all.Lutra seemed happy to have his cousin Canter around and since Callie and Ambryn was Canters family,he accepted them as well! It was a dream come true,a loving family that helped and protected others.So many giving soquili all in one place.
Letting out a small sigh from her smiley lips,she wandered out of the little camp that she was staying in. The sights were beautiful and the colors of the leaves blended so well with everything.It all seemed too good to be true for her,but it was all true.Callie was going to be able to help others in this herd,just like she always dreamed of. Illumi and all of the others made it worth the while.As the wind blew through her hair she looked over and seen Illumi coming towards her.A large smile grew across her face as he grew closer and closer.
Wondering what he was coming for her for,she started talking out."Hiya Illumin. Are you doing well today?"Fluffing her wings she awaited his response.

When the mare had spotted him the stallion lowered his head in greeting when he drew closer and stopped. "I'm doing well today Callie. How does today find you?" He returned her question. Once she answered he continued on with the reason for his visit. "I've heard that you have completed our training and will be partaking in the Lantern Ceremony. I know that you were hoping to make your own lantern so I'm here as your escort for the endeavor. "
He smiled to the mare his green eyes catching the sun's light. "I also thought it would be a good chance for us to hang out and chat. We haven't had much time to hang out since you've joined. " He hoped that this would be welcomed by the mare. His wings, pulled into his sides give a small twitch as another breeze pulled through. He watched as it pulled at her mane as it did to this. His rainbow streaks were inherited from his mother.
"So if you're ready, we can head out now and start gathering the materials you want for the lantern." It was going to be a clear day and evening according to Stormy Night so they should have plenty of time.

Callie gave a good nod to him."I am well,thank you. I am really glad to hear it."It made her feel warm inside to see the male beside her. He seemed so much like her in ways that made her heart flutter just seeing how much of a gentleman he was. "Oh! yes!" She laughed,slightly bouncing on her hooves excitedly ."I have been waiting for this day and I cannot wait to start."Tossing her long dark mane she looked towards his medium green eyes. "Thank you for helping me.I am honored to have you by my side today,helping me make this."
Callie wiggled her little tail and moved ahead a bit."I am ready." Bouncing a little more she started to walk at a decent pace towards their destination."I would love to be able to share things with you.Hear plenty of stories and learn more about the herd that hasn't already been said."Giving a large smile,she started speaking in a calmer voice."Canter,Ambryn,and I are so happy that your family has let us join. It is something that has been missing out of our little herd."

The stallion watched the mare and smiled some. "You need to stop saying that we let you join. You earned your places and contribute to our home. We're not some elitist club. Granted not everyone that stays with us joins. Sometimes we are just not the right fit. But you all belong here as much as I do." He started to walk, leading the mare to the path that would lead away from the Herd's home.
"The herd wasn't created with and by my father. He was left here as a basket and was raised amongst the herd. The original creators were the Wise Ones. They all passed away shortly before I was born. This herd was created as a necessity." Illuminatus gave her a smile. Hoping that what he said would help her this was her family now too.
"So anyway... Did you want to go to the two leg village fist to see if there's anything there you like?"

She laughed at Illu."I still feel like I have to thank you. We may help out quite a bit,but it feels so good to be welcomed somewhere and have others that love us back." Callie moved a little faster to walk next to the stallion before her. She nipped playfully at his long colorful mane.
Callie smiled as she listened to him speak more about the herd.It was all interesting in itself that she had already learned,but there was so much more that she still needed to learn.Looking ahead of them the wind lightly took both of their manes in a windy dance,it wasn't enough to make their hair look like birds nests.It was just enough to make them slow dance. "Huh.I wonder what it was like to live beside them. You guys make everything come together so well,Its amazing to see how wonderfully things came along." Nodding her head she started to speak again.
"We could do that,I am sure they have a lot of beautiful feathers to add to my lantern." She couldn't wait to start on her lantern,being in this herd gave her a huge opportunity.

The naturally colored grey stallion laughed when the mare nipped at his mane. The gentle breeze was nice and it stirred up a lot of the forest's scents. "Oh yes. I'm sure this time of year the two leggers will have a good selection for you. " He glanced to the side at the mare. He wanted to ask her about if she was making other friends but he had to remember that firstly, he wasn't her mentor and secondly that line of questions could be a little standoff-ish. He wanted to get to know her better but it was hard for him to think of himself and not the herd...
"So tell me about how you and Canter came to be a family? He knew that Ambryn was her daughter. But he wasn't to sure how Canter came to be a part of the family. As he asked the question he led the way to the two leg village.

"It will be nice to see what kind of things they have in store."Callie was happy around Illu,he made her feel the most welcome.Her ears perked up as he asked about Canter."I met Canter a few years ago,he was lonely and I was in need as well.He has always been there.When Ambryn's father left for the first time before she was born was when Canter came into my life.He's like a bother to me.Protected me when i needed it most. Unfortunately,I didn't listen to him this past time when Ambryn's father and I split for the second time." Callie tried to keep a smile upon her face as she talked about this. It still hurt within her heart to think about it let alone talk about it. It was a rough time and still a recovery.
"He's been a lovely friend,so when I heard from him that he had met a cousin of his,I had to come along. Ambryn also needs some help with growing as well and the herd is a great opportunity for her."

Illuminatus listed to the mare's story. That was right. Canter was Lutra's cousin. Which meant that he was also his family too. It was strange but not... Lutra was a gift to the herd as a basket and this is where he was raised. From what the younger stallion knew, Lutra never asked about family outside the herd. But he had to come from somewhere right?
"It's still a bit hard for me to process that I have blood relatives outside of this herd. Granted my mother Akari has left to return to her family, but through my father's side." Illumi gave a little shiver and looked up at the sky. "The world certainly is a big place."
As they walked along the path the smells from the two leg village came through. The smoke from their fires started to fill Illumi's nose. "You know, I'm not sure if it would be helpful or not. But that mare, Crusnik, well she came to the herd with a stallion and had foals. The stallion she was with left her before the foals were born. For a while she would stare off at the horizon almost like she was waiting for him to come back but he never did. Her son, Bacillus, he left in search of the father. Her Daughter RosenKreuz found him and the father, but neither of them seem to wish to return back here." He knew Rosen well and the mare was strong, just like her mother. It was sad to see the family divide in that way. Bacillus was an interesting stallion. "But anyways... I'm rambling. She might be a kindred spirit of sorts, having gone through something kind of similar? She wouldn't ever judge, she has a way about her..." That was one way to put it about Crusnik.
It was really the only thing he could offer the mare. He wasn't in a position to understand a pain like that. And he wanted her to know that there were others that would support her, aside from just him. But he saw it in her eyes, the pain it still caused. So now it was time to change the subject.
"Smell that smoke? It looks like we'll be lucky. It'll be a market day; so other two leggers will be visiting from other areas, so there will be an even larger selection. But it will also be very busy. So be careful not to step on any of them. They don't really like when we do that." He gave her a wink. He was just teasing at this point. The two leggers here never tried to rope them, since The Herd also offered services to them, very symbiotic.
