Quote: Survey Mission 66H Location: Sleepy Hollow, New York Images:: x, x General debriefing: The season of scaring is upon us, and it seems that some old legends hold kernels of truth.
...Or, at least, attract frenzied creatures that want to take advantage of all that residual fear lingering around.
* C class difficulty level (must have a team of three, and at least one of them must be an Intermediate Trainee.) MECHANICS * MECHANICS: RP assembling a team, as necessary, before heading towards the main portal to request a portal to Survey Mission 66H. Once there, roll a 100-sided dice and match the roleplay to the results below, as well as any reactions. Players can continue rolling until any of the players roll a BOSS ENCOUNTER, in which case the BATTLE PHASE begins. See below for battle phase mechanics. 1- 20: IN the woods, you hear a wheezing sort of laughter, ringing in your ears. Amidst the fog, yellow-orange lights bob in the distance, steadily growing closer no matter where you go. Your vision blacks out for a few seconds, and when it returns, a singular jack o lantern is resting atop a branch, its candle snuffing out abruptly. 21 - 30: A rickety wooden bridge is ahead, obscured by fog that's the sort of cold that runs all the way down to your bones. In the distance, you hear the steady beat of hooves against dirt, but they never seem to get any closer. A plank snaps underfoot, and one of your feet slips beneath, touching the water-- and something grabs your ankle for just a moment. 31 - 40: Black shadows swirl around your feet, slowing your movement down to a crawl, until you can't walk any further at all. Paranoia filters into your thoughts before vanishing abruptly with a loud, sudden noise sharper than any gunshot. The shadows have disappeared. 41 - 60: You see an old man, stooped over as he makes his way down a path. His head is ducked down, focusing intently on watching where he steps, a candle in his hand. Trying to get his attention to ask him about anything at all results in his head turning all the way around, his eye sockets completely empty. In the blink of an eye, he's gone, leaving behind only his candlestick holder, still smoking. 61 - 80: You come upon a grove with a crumbling mausoleum, looted and rotting. Trying to go around it, somehow, pulls you right back to its entrance. Upon going in, you have a vision of your own death, however fantastical it might be. As soon as it's over, you snap back to reality, and the mausoleum is gone, leaving behind an open grave, a number of skeletons piled high in the dirt. 81- 100: BOSS ENCOUNTER: - The hoofbeats grow closer and closer until they're thunderous in volume. Atop a black horse as gargantuan as itself, the dullahan roars out of the fog, streaks of grey along its shadowy form revealing its Insanity. The horse rears high, forelegs kicking high, and shadows form around the dullahan in wispy shapes. It laughs, deep and wild, and every mocking bark echoes through the woods. Holding its its fiery pumpkin head high leads to the worst possible outcome. Sparks fly, jumping to the detritus littered around the forest, and before long, trees are set aflame. As every minute passes, it spreads further and further, until you are surrounded in a blaze. You better hurry. - BOSS MECHANICS: This boss is gigantic headless horseman that has 100 HP. Every time you attack the boss (following the general battle rules), you TAKE 8 damage. Make sure to tally the boss's total HP (the damage you did to it) at the bottom of your post as well as your total HP and the damage you did that round. If the boss's HP hits 0, you have defeated it, and your team can now take the portal back. After Boss defeat:Upon its defeat, the fire abruptly goes out as if doused by rain. A ghostly wail shrieks and races towards the sky, and the pumpkin head lays charred and smashed on the ground. It's over, for now. Make sure to tally the boss's total HP (the damage you did to it) at the bottom of your post as well as your total HP and the damage you did that round. If the boss's HP hits 0, you have defeated it, and your team can now take the portal back. * 2 mission reward points for completing this successfully

Ever thought that maybe, just maybe, he was still hungover from several days in Vegas -- and so he wasn't exactly thrilled by the fact that he was being sent out on mission so quickly, again. All the same, he was there early, sitting outside on the ground with a cigarette trailing smoke and a hand across his eyes, blocking the searing pain of the sun in his eyes and wondering, absently, if this was just Amory ******** with him. It wouldn't be the first time his weapon let those little aches and pains go, just to remind him who was boss. He thought he saw shoes approaching -- thought he heard the slow creep of someone walking up on him -- and so he made a very quiet sound and tipped his head, slowly, to see just who was joining him. And wished for a bottle of water.

There was the hint of dark circles under his eyes, and of course the two cups of coffee for breakfast only did so much as another was in his hand. Matt was dressed in one of his grey bespoke suits, dress shoes, and his new jacket on as he made his way to the meeting spot for a mission. It was his first mission, that was beyond the one he had to complete in order for his promotion, as well it was the first he would have to complete with a group. There was the smell of cheap cigarettes in the air, as Matt approached the familiar scrawny figure sitting on the ground. Standing behind him Matt peered down with a crooked grin. “Hey,nice to see you again Ever.” He looked slightly awful, at least more than him.

A mission, a freckled nose had wrinkled in annoyance when getting the news he'd be on another. It wasn't that he didn't enjoy missions but getting stuck with filing away paperwork for them brought a certain distaste. That and the company always seemed to suck. Cain was steadily moving towards the smell of cigarettes and two distant figures, fresh from finishing breakfast. The dirty blonde life trainee looking far more rested than the two men he approached. Pausing a critical look was given to each, one shitty looking Ever, one impractical nobody he didn't care to know. "Aren't you a fine bunch," a scoff and tanned arms folded over a soft blue sweater vested chest. Avoiding eye contact with Ever light blue grey eyes focused on Matt where they settled in a sort of glare. Though this was mostly due to the fact that Cain had reached up to remove thick yellow framed glasses to clean. Something to do to keep from talking much while waiting to hear ready.

"I've been better." It was going to be an odd crew, Ever thought, but instead of being annoyed by it, like Cain, he looked just faintly amused -- in a tired, somewhat distracted sort of way, just now. Maybe he should have choked down a cup of coffee on his way. He held out his hands to Matt, meaningfully, unsure that he could manage to stand up on his own -- or maybe just not exactly wanting to. "But I'll live. We can manage this, at least."

“Hey, yes I guess you are stuck with us.” Matt gave the newcomer a friendly enough smile; completely ignoring the tone he gave him and even more completely ignored the glare he gave, as the grin grew larger. The hunter didn’t look familiar, not that Matt was concerned it just meant he hadn’t spent as much time in the infirmary as others, possibly a good thing for him. He smiled down again and took Ever’s hand to help bring him to his feet. “Did you want any coffee or water before we leave?”

"Hi." The greeting was passively given back while glasses were placed upon nose. "You've certainly looked better." Cain snorted softly towards Ever as he glanced behind him for a second. Turning back a look was given to the unknown man, one that read obviously they were stuck together captain obvious. The youngest man of the group clearly not one for joking so early. Watching as Ever was helped up Cain's shoulders rolled for a pop before once more he was standing with folded arms. Awkwardly standing and staring for lack of anything better to do. "Where are we going..anyways?" One of them had to have a mission file like the last group he had went with right?

"New York. But not the fun part, sadly." He patted Matt on the shoulder, both eyebrows raised as he swept a look over the man, working to figure out just how many supplies he had on him, and where he'd put them -- "Water? Do you really have it there, somewhere?" He smiled, sudden and bright, and then seemed to realize what he was doing and struggled to wipe it away again. "That'll get me moving a bit better. Trip to Vegas is still eating at me." The file sat where Ever had been, several pages spilling out. If Cain really wanted to read it...

Matt just kept a grin on his face towards the other hunter; the disapproving glare was one he had dealt with plenty of times in the infirmary by other hunters. This was nothing he couldn’t deal with, or let it get to him. “Of course.” Matt pulled a bottle from one of the deeper pockets on his coat; being a moon he came prepared as always and requested for larger pockets to hold things. Of course he had a small bag tucked along the inside of his coat as well but it was small and only filled with the necessary bandages and needles if needed. Holding the bottle of water out to Ever he smirked noting Ever struggling to put his smile away. “I am going to guess the trip to Vegas was fun, I went before my promotion, I don’t remember a lot of it but I do remember it was fun.”

New York, he wasn't familiar with it so he took Ever's word about the place they were heading. Moving over on instincts when seeing the file by the pace that Ever had been sitting. Not interested with the water topic the Lifer bent and picked up the file, scooting the papers back in before reading over it and giving the two a moment without his input. Sleepy Hollow. The location was read over then reread, bringing a set of goosebumps over the tanned mans skin as eyes lingered. Cain might not have been very familiar with the states but he was with horror movies and legends. They had to be kidding, there was no way in hell. But not wanting to play the coward he was Cain closed the file abruptly and eyed the pair. "I'm sure none of the fun that was in Vegas will happen in Sleepy Hollow." It wasn't really an addition to the conversation at hand more of a statement to get the two back on topic. It was weird for him to hear about Vegas mostly because it was still weird for him to be near Ever. That b*****d Zeke, what if they had gotten married!? He had thought the whole stupid trip was a lie! It ate at him a little to think he may have just done something terrible with a potentially married man. Awkwardly a hand went up to scratch at blonde hair, greyblues peering away on a cough.

"I drank too much," Ever offered, matter of fact, and then tipped back the bottle to take several long, slow gulps. A pause, to make sure it all stayed down, and he swiped at his face once, briefly. Eyes flicking from Cain to Matt and back again, he nodded in something like approval and took two steps back toward the portal, waving at the file in Cain's hand. "I read it. Well, skimmed it. I think we'll manage. It's a suburban neighborhood, it can't be that bad, though we should be careful about getting noticed about any civilians, I think." Another long sip of water before he tucked the rest of the bottle into his bag. "Shall we?" Ever didn't wait for a reply. Just went through the portal.

“I can tell.” Grinning he watched as Ever downed most of the bottle of water. It must have been a lot for it to still be bothering him, he should have been ok by now, he wondered if something was wrong. Matt glanced at the hunter as he mentioned Sleepy Hollow. It was almost amusing in a terrifying way that of course they would be going somewhere well known of haunting it was enough to give the hunter a joyful twinge. Not that he had a death wish or anything, maybe. Not even looking at the file he grinned at the hunter before following Ever through the portal, they could tell him when they got there. Or he could read it, it didn’t matter.

One waved the file off with a skimmed and the other didn't even look, what professionals and they were higher ranked? Cain called mad bullshit on this but only responded with a roll of eyes. "Because three grown men in long white coats won't stand out in a suburban neighborhood.." He sassed but followed the pair through the portal with a tuck file into coat. It didn't matter that they weren't prepared, Cain was, mostly.

Paranoia filters into your thoughts before vanishing abruptly with a loud, sudden noise sharper than any gunshot. The shadows have disappeared. At this hour, on a weekday, Sleepy Hollow was quiet, and dark -- which meant they could creep out of the portal and into the heart of a dimly-lit wood. In the distance, through the trees, they could see street lights, the odd flash of a car as it drove past, headlights brightening a quiet village street. Most likely that wouldn't be their goal. Thoughtfully, Ever turned his head to consider the woods, instead, where he thought he saw a dimmer sort of light in the distance -- "That way, I'd say." He nodded toward it, a warm glow, and started two steps in that direction -- and almost immediately felt like he was pressing into something dark, shadows that eased out of the trees and over his feet, Ever's heart hammering despite his efforts to stay calm. He swallowed once, struggled to drag one foot over the other, going even paler in the darkness -- A sound, behind him, and he twisted suddenly to see what it was. The spell was broken and he exhaled, shakily.

It was quiet as he stepped through the portal, the feeling of cool air rolling across his body as the occasional car drove past, the light flickering among the trees as it drove down the sleeping road. This was the first time Matt had really stepped foot on the east coast of the US, there wasn’t much there not that he was surprised. At least the trees were something different to him than the usually palm tropical like ones. Matt stepped forward in the direction that Ever had nodded not noticing the other slowing down or that something was even wrong as something light grey caught his attention in the trees. Leaving the path he headed in the direction he had seen it, unsure what it was until he got closer noting the crumbling structure bearing some resemblance to a mausoleum. It was little odd, as he grew closer fearing the rot and unstable condition of the building but it didn’t keep him from entering it. Blood, there was blood smeared across his hands as he gasped at his throat, it was harder to breath something gurgling filling his mouth with a bitter iron taste. Matt fell to his knees, the ground littered in splattered, falling forward he dug trying to breath.Snapping back, Matt looked around, the mausoleum was gone leaving behind a wreck of skeletons tossed carelessly into a pit piling high enough to reach the edge. A look of disgust on his face as he turned away looking for the other two.
