'yup! 3 pm at addams cafe. im really looking forward to meeting you!'

Liam checked his phone for what had to be the 30th time in the last 10 minutes, sighing to himself as there were no new messages and time was still not yet 3. That's what he got, he supposed, getting there almost an hour early. Still, home was vaguely suffocating as per usual - he didn't blame his parents for getting yet another batch of anklebiters, but it was a little off-putting to have way younger siblings in the house. (He loved his two youngest sisters and brother, and was starting to feel it was time to leave the nest.)

Then again, that was the very reason he'd started hanging out on the forums and run across a user that would become a very good friend. 6 months later and here they were, about to meet face-to-face for the very first time. Liam inconspicuously checked his reflection, raising a hand to play with a few strands of his bangs. Geeze, why couldn't he stop grinning? He felt like a little school girl when her crush noticed her! Well, maybe not to that extent - but there was a certain sense of anxiety that was making him continually check his phone.

Maynard had paced the side of the cafe for at least for the past thirty minutes. It was now half-an-hour to the time when he was supposed to meet his online pen-pal. Well, he thought, pen-pal was a weird way to phrase it. It was more like a friend he had met online, and then had started to trade messages to, before they began sending each other anonymous gifts back and forth (the funny thing was, they had both known who the gifts had been from). No pictures had been shared, and Maynard was scared that maybe it would be some weird old woman he had been messaging...although, honestly, he probably wouldn't have minded if it had been an old lady. At least it would have been an interesting encounter.

Either way, this was someone that he, at the very least, respected. At the most, it was someone he was potentially interested in, although he was a long ways away from mentioning that to anyone. His sisters would most definitely tease him, and though his father would understand, his father wasn't someone that he generally looked up to.

Around 2:45 Maynard decided that it was time to go into the cafe. He was never someone that liked to be late to anything, and because of that he usually always turned up early - and if it wasn't for his undeniable sense of nervousness, he probably would have been in the cafe 45 minutes earlier than now.
As he walked in the doors, he remembered that he had told Liam that his hair was pale blonde with (ironically) pink highlights. Even more embarrassingly he remembered that he had said, "if anyone shockingly hot walks through the doors, then I'll know it's you, Liam." Thinking back, it was amazing how different he acted online, compared to how he acted when he talked to others in person - because, compared to if he tried to flit with anyone now, he would never be confident enough to spout out that kind of thing. Even remembering it made his face heat up in an uncomfortable blush.

(sorry if my writing is sloppy - I feel like I haven't written anything that wasn't an essay in FOREVER!
btw, I could guess, but which name is which? 8D I love it!)

Liam's ear twitched when, once again, the bells attached to the cafe's door jingled, the new patron greeted by the chirped greeting of the workers. He felt compelled to look up, resigning himself to being disappointed, but the newcomer's appearance made him do a double-take. The stranger was pretty average-built, but it was his attire that held Liam's attention. Pink shirt AND pink shorts? With black leggings underneath? The guy also had pale blond hair, violet-pink streaks shooting through it. If that wasn't his online friend in the flesh, Liam would do another espresso shot! (He'd done enough already that the baristas were occasionally sending him worried glances.)

His brain was screaming at him to move, to do something, but Liam suddenly found that his legs were too weak to propel him up from his window seat, much less toward the pink-clad guy standing awkwardly (blushingly?!) near the cafe entrance. Instead, he raised a hand shakily, calling out in a surprisingly steady voice "Over here, Maynard!"

PixelDeerest
(Oh man, do I understand that feeling on, like, a SOUL level! I figured May would go for the first one, since he's flirtier/more confident online, and Liam's a giant space nerd who quotes Disney at random times to confuse people. Also, he can be immature af sometimes. BTW, I'm assuming human forms?)

As the hand waved invitingly in the air, Maynard felt himself relax. He looked at the body attached to the arm - somewhat startled to find someone who wasn't an old woman, but instead a handsome young man - although he had turned out to look somewhat odder than Maynard had first expected. Yet, the oddness about him added to Maynard's feeling of comfort and instead of detracting from the other male's handsome qualities, it added to them. "Liam" he greeted, his face stretching into a warm smile at the familiar name. He had talked about Liam to his other, somewhat transient, friends and he had said select words to his family about his new companion - so, overall, he was used to saying the name out loud, wearing the word on his lips like a favorite coat.

"Hey, can I get you something to dri-" Maynard stopped, his eyes catching a mostly-empty cup out of the corner of his eye. Catching himself, he let his face fall blank, his body falling into a cool, yet guarded, stance. So, Liam had been here awhile. He felt so stupid, Of course his friend would already be here! Kicking himself, he set his features to be blank. "Oh. Nevermind" He said, not really looking at anything, as he pulled out a seat and sat down. It was normal for him to shut down on the outside, when on the inside he was freaking out.

Maynard knew that if he wanted to make the best impression on his new friend, then he should probably act just as warm, flirtatious, and inviting as he had online - yet, his inner teenage girl couldn't stop obsessing over the mistakes he had already made (and was still making by continuing to distance himself) but he decided it was better to come off as cold - rather than to make himself seem all the more crazy.

"I guess I'll get a myself a drink a second. Until then, How are you? Was the ride over good?" He paced himself by stopping his questions, praying that his face remained as stoic as he thought it did - and not like the excitable self that he really was. "Sorry that you had to come all the way out here. It's pretty boring, being between suburbs and pasture.."

(Yeeees, I'm so glad you understand. Seriously though, all of the academic writing makes me want to not even look-over what I've already written. I feel like I'm always second guessing myself!
And I thought I had spied a Lion King reference |D I knew I had guessed right for the owners of the usernames. Then yes! I absolutely agree.
And I hadn't meant for them to be in human form, but I would love to continue that way! I honestly miss writing humans, a bit.)

When Maynard said his name, Liam could've sworn at least one of his hearts fluttered. He feeling stopped abruptly, of course, when his new friend seemed to suddenly shut down, stubbornly stoic in a matter of seconds. 'Maybe he really wanted to buy me a drink?' he thought, watching the other man sit down in the seat across of him, concerned at Maynard's sudden lack of enthusiasm.

He jerked out of contemplating potential reasons for Maynard's dejection with a surprised blink, a half-smile twitching up on his lips. "Oh dear. Are we starting with the usual intro questions, then?" he teased, poking out the tip of his tongue to should he was joking, "I was hoping you'd have pulled some inspiration from that detective series I started you one. Honestly, I think I make a wonderful Nora Charles." Flirty banter had been a staple of their online relationship from the very beginning - it should lend itself to helping the ice break, right?

Liam chuckled, shrugging nonchalantly. "In all seriousness, the ride was fine. And I don't mind in the slightest - there was someone waiting here that made it worth all the 'boringness'." Meh, if he winked before taking a sip of his drink, he couldn't be held responsible.

PixelDeerest
(I'm perfectly fine with human forms, actually. I can do anthros, but quadrupeds are a bit more difficult than I find worth it for a fun RP to pass the time. My Choveckites, though, have their animalistic ears and tail.)

Maynard's heart sank further. He'd said something stupid and pointless, disappointing his new friend with his basic grasp of conversational skills. However, Liam's wink made a small smile tug of the edges of his lips - at least the guy didn't seem to hate him for his uselessness.

"You'd be a better Nora Charles, and more lovely too" he said. It slipped out, like word vomit - something that came so naturally from their banter online. Plus, he had enjoyed the series more than he wanted admit out loud (or, at least admit to anyone besides Liam. He loved humoring him). Yet, because Maynard feared that he would let his whole demeanor slip if he relaxed much more, he readjusted his face into a cool smile - saying no more, instead of elaborating further

It hurt though, and it was difficult to keep up. Maynard wanted to joke with Liam - wanted to laugh and say, 'Now don't flirt with me too much Liam - you wouldn't want me to swoon over you, because it might become a regular thing!', but he was so awkward in person that it was hard to justify that flirtatious attitude. What if he came on too strong? What if Liam only ever wanted to be friends (which was something Maynard was fine with, though) and he scared him away by being coy - even if he meant it in an inoffensive way?

ChibiWrites
Okay!
xD And sorry Maynard is so awkward - it will be better once Liam gets him laughing more, or if they aren't in such a public place. Hopefully, at least.

Liam's grin doubled in size at Maynard's quip, relaxing by a large degree at the hopeful turn towards normal. Well, their normal, at least. Their normal being causal flirting, of course. "Yes, well. A Nora's only as good as her Nick." he said, glancing a the blond over the rim of his cup, "Who knows? Maybe the Charleses aren't the best couple to want to mirror. Having to deal with murders, and the like." He shrugged, his tail flicking a bit and curling around his own ankle. That gave Liam reason to pause. Was he distressed? No, not really. Seeking comfort? He was pretty comfortable in general. And yet, looking at Maynard's stoic expression, something like worry was beginning to bubble up in his chest. Hence his tail's unconscious ankle-hugging, apparently.

Liam propped his elbows up on the little cafe table, steepling his fingers so he could look at the other man speculatively. "Do you... wanna get your coffee so we can go for a walk?" he asked, tilting his head, "Lovely as this place is, I didn't get to see a lot of the town on my way in." Oh, now THAT was a filthy lie! He'd come via the train system - which, surprising to all parties involved, had had tracks all the way out here in this quaint city - and the cafe was on the opposite side of town from the station. Still, Maynard seemed anxious, and it was making Liam's nose itch.

PixelDeerest
(It's all good, dear! Liam's feeling particularly flirty every time I have a tag in this, so that's a good sign he'll try and make May laugh a lot!)
