Collapsing onto the couch, exhausted and damp from the rain, Draven covered his face with his hands. He could feel Shade shifting from her position on the back of the couch and the the light weight of a flitterat landing atop him. There was a squeak and a gentle scratchy feeling on the back of his hand, so he opened his hands slowly to see Rook's face peering at him curiously. Sighing, Draven unfolded his hands the rest of the way and set about petting the dark familiar. Nearly all of them were restless, particularly Yue's nezubat colony.
"It's been two days, Rook. What am I supposed to do?"
He was talking about the disappearance of Sor, of course. Not that the flitterat could respond. Yue was besides herself, every search had been fruitless so far. Every spare moment they'd spent outside looking for him. It had just started to drizzle again and Draven decided to go back to the apartment until the rain stopped, but Yue said she was going to stay out a bit longer. What happened to him? Maybe he got lost? That seemed so unlikely though. Perhaps he just lost track of time, but that sounded even less possible. He was always came back within a day. He didn't want to think about the possibility that he couldn't come back, and was lying injured somewhere. Or worse. With Haunted Hallows going on there were nezubats everywhere, maybe someone picked him up on accident? But he had a familiar tag, it's not like even a basic check for owner enchantments wouldn't come back with Yue's name.
All thoughts he'd had many times over the past two days, and still just as unproductive. Heaving himself up, he scooped Rook into his hands and deposited the little guy on the couch where he'd been laying. There wasn't time to mope about, maybe someone had found him and sent them a message rather than just let a stranded familiar wander around. That was possible. He should also get Yue to eat before she went back out. Something warm preferably. He'd go grab the mail and come back in to make dinner and wait for Yue to come back. Maybe there was one of those instant hot chocolate packets somewhere he could bribe her with.
Unwinding his still damp scarf and draping it over his desk chair, he left the apartment to go downstairs and get the mail, trotting down the stairs while his thoughts swirled. What if they never found Sor? He couldn't imagine Yue giving up. Nodding to the Baphomet closing their mail slot, he unlocked theirs and pulled out the bundle. Junk mail, junk mail, bill, possible junk mail/student loan, and...
Draven felt the floor shift away from under him slightly. A letter. From the orphanage. He hadn't really expected a response, and after the first few days sort of just let go of the hope. Plus with the hunt for Sor...
Flipping it over, the back was just plain white. He wasn't sure what he was expecting. Quickly rejecting the thought of tearing it open right then, Drav hauled a** back up the stairs and into their apartment, tossing the rest of the mail on the counter. Now that he was in the comfort of his apartment his courage faltered. What if sending them that letter put both himself and Yue on the 'don't ever let these crazy people adopt, ever' list? Did they even have a list like that? s**t.
Setting the coffee on, he went about getting a cup of hot water for Yue's hot chocolate, trying to distract himself for a moment. It wasn't working. He'd better read it before Yue got back anyway. Nine, what if it was bad. Mixing in the chocolate powder, he went to get some marshmallows to add to the top of it, making sure to grab extra for her. They bobbed on the surface as he tossed them in, and only after did he realize maybe he should've waited until she was actually home first. Augh brain, come on. Picking up the letter again, he flicked it back and forth, taking a deep breath. Open it. Just open it. C'mon. What if it was good news.
Nine, what if it was good news? What if they'd been put on a waiting list? Or... he didn't know, maybe there was more than just a generic response. Anything positive at all would be heartily welcome, Yue desperately needed something hopeful to cling to. He let out the breath he was holding and tore at the seal before he could talk himself out of it again. Just a simple letter, folded much the same his had been. His hands shaking, he unfolded it and tried to focus on the words.Dear Draven and Yue,
We received your letter and hope this reply finds you well. We'd be overjoyed to introduce you to someone very special, perhaps even two special someones, and I think the both of you will agree- His hand shot out behind him to brace his weight against the counter as his knees buckled and the world fell away. Holy s**t. Oh, Oreia, thank you. This was... overwhelming. Amazing. Terrifying. How was he going to tell Yue? How would she react?
The simple, crystal powered coffee brewer continued to chime at him until Draven came up from the fog to even notice it. His hands shook violently as he poured himself a cup, cleaning up the spill in a daze. He'd just sit on the couch and wait for Yue, try to find some way to break the news to her, even though he was still trying to process this himself.

Growing up Yue had always wanted pets, but for some reason or another she was always turned down. It would be something like one of her roommates was allergic to anything but skyfish, and then when she decided skyfish were cute enough the pet store was always sold out or went out of business. The list went on and on to the point where she was starting to wonder if she had been cursed. By junior year she had just given up the thought of ever owning a pet until after university. Then she had met Draven and they had started hanging out more and more as friends. She had mentioned that she always loved bats and dearly wanted to own a nezubat. She never expected that a few short days later Draven would come by with a tiny black and orange fluff ball. Sor was just old enough to fly and thus be given an owner. It was practically love at first sight. The two bonded instantly. Sor went everywhere Yue went or even snuck into Yue’s bag when Yue tried to keep him at home. He even snuck out to check on Tobias and seemed to love that Tobias was orange like him. He took to each new Nezubat easily becoming the lead Nezubat. In fact, Yue remembered when she thought she was close to failing one of her tests and the next night her nezubats had gotten her a new one. It was pretty much no secret that Yue and nezubats were often together. Even so, she had often heard from people that it was a rule somewhere that if you had outdoor pets that you should always prepare yourself one day that they wouldn’t come home. She always worried every night they did actually use the window to go fly around. However she never thought it would be Sor. Sor didn’t even like going out at night, in fact when she was at the academy he only really left to go check on Tobias. After she went to Asterion Sor only went out if her whole colony for lack of a better word was going. She had heard stories of black vespercats disappearing during this holiday but Sor wasnt even all black. The nine he wasn’t even a vespercat. He was a tiny little nezubat. Even worse is that she was making Draven feel horrible. She had tried to keep it hidden, especially when Magi had come home that morning practically screeching and near inconsolable. She had known something was wrong. However she wasn’t able to keep it hidden for long. Probably because she had taken the day off of class yesterday. Even the weather seemed to be in tune with her mood and she glared up at the clouds that were keeping her from searching longer. Well it wouldn’t do to get sick; with a sigh she walked back inside and took the elevator up to their apartment. Opening the door she proceeded to stop half way through as she stared at Draven on the couch. Well something was definitely up. Before she jumped to conclusions, she was going to sit on the couch and let him explain?

The feathers along his ears perked as he heard the doorknob turn, suddenly aware of how anxious he was. He hadn't even figured out what to say yet. Then he saw her face as she entered and his thoughts screeched to a halt. Sor. Still no luck, apparently. He looked at her with worry as she closed the door and glanced his way. Her expression clouded and he wondered briefly if he'd done something wrong. Maybe she was mad he went back to the apartment instead of staying out longer to look? s**t. Or maybe something else was going on in her head. Had he left the toilet seat up? Did he forget to put his clothes away? What was it? Maybe it wasn't the right time to tell her about the letter. Nine, what was he thinking, putting this on her when she was distressed about Sor and everything. His mind whirled as she approached with a quizzical air. He shooed Rook from the couch to make room for her and set his coffee down, which reminded him of her hot chocolate.
Getting up with a fluster, making sure to take the letter with him, he gave gestured with his hand for her to wait a moment and scuttled to the kitchen to grab the mug with the spoon still in it, marshmallows already beginning to melt into a goop. Crossing the living room to hand it to her, he settled into the couch again and looked at her. It was obvious she was waiting for him to speak, but his mind had gone to mush. Should he even bring it up? She expected him to say something though. Maybe he was supposed to know what he did wrong and apologize, but he really had no clue. Drav opened his mouth and floundered for words for a moment before grabbing his coffee and taking a sip. Maybe if he just apologized she'd reveal what he was supposed to be sorry for. That could work.
"I'm so sorry Yue."
He couldn't tell if he was in the clear to wrap an arm around her or not, she didn't seem to be pissed though, just upset. He settled for extending his wing beside her in a comforting gesture as he sat with his body turned towards her, still clutching the now refolded letter and his cup of coffee.

Yue was trying to keep a neutral face as she was worried about what Draven seemed to be worked up about but she could tell it wasn’t as neutral as she would like as he seemed to suddenly snap into worried mode instead. So she had tried to say she was fine and they could bring up whatever was troubling him. A distraction while she waited for any kind of news might be good. However it seemed like he needed a distraction and he quickly exited the couch to get her Hot chocolate. She quietly took the cup and using the spoon stirred the marshmallows into the liquid. They were already too soggy for picking out to eat. In fact she was somewhat curious about the letter that he grabbed, was the contents of the letter what was worrying him. She had barely seen it and had only seen it because she was used to spotting things quick to steal. A rather geist like trait she had picked up while in the orphanage. Oh… boy. Those words never boded well. She was pretty The expression when she came in was not a worried I’m about to tell you something you’ll absolutely hate expression, in fact she was pretty sure it had been almost dazed? Had she read it wrong? In her experience, those kind of expressions normally hadn’t led to ‘I’m sorry of all things’. Well could she try going neutral again? And saying something like ‘oh…’ then again she hadn’t really had a good track record with neutral today so…. Maybe it was just the horrid situation in general. “It’s not like it’s your fault” that was generic enough right? Meanwhile she scooted closer to him on the couch. Even if there was really only like inches between them still

He watched her stir the cup quietly, knowing something was wrong but he wasn't sure what. Well, more wrong. His apology didn't seem to really hit the note he wanted, though she did move closer to him after commenting. Was this like when people said it's not your fault but it's really your fault? Yue wasn't normally like that though. She was pretty direct unless it was something embarrassing, and if she was angry he would've known by now, right? Besides, she wasn't pulling away from him.
Comforted by the response, he put his coffee down again and debated if he should tell her right now. With Sor still missing and everything he just wasn't sure if it would be as exciting as he originally thought. Needing to hold her, he reached out to pull her to him, guiding her to turn away so she could either put her legs up along the length of the couch or hang them over the side. This way her back was against his chest and he could wrap his arms and wings around her comfortably, nuzzling the side of her head with his. The letter was still firmly in his hold, but with his arms wrapped around her it was clear she knew about it since it was right in front of her and brushing against her; and frankly how would he hide it from her anyway? He would just give her the option of hearing about it. Maybe she would be too stressed to deal with something else, but at least this way he was acknowledging the letter and it's contents without just shoving it at her.
"So... I got some pretty big news today. I understand if you don't want to hear about it right now, with Sor missing and everything. I mean, it can wait but it's... something you should really know."

Yue easily let Draven move her into a much more comfortable position. When he seemed down with his rearranging she leaned back into him happy to accept his support and love. It meant a lot that he was here. Only thing that would have made the whole situation better she mused as she sipped her hot chocolate is if Tobias was here. However asking her little brother to hop a portal to come from the academy, provided he found time to sneak away from the academy seemed a bit much. Ah… so it was big news. Could she handle another set of big bad news if that was the case? She thought about it as she continued finishing up her drink. Yeah she could. She did have a feeling that it wasn’t really bad news though. Plus sometimes good things came from tragedies. She could use some good news. “Well I’ve done all I can for right now. Supposedly magic says that Sor’s going to come back but I didn’t get a positive feeling from it and you can never be a hundred percent right” Yue replied in order to his comment about her dealing with things on top of Sor. “Besides with this storm I can’t really do much except for wait. So spring it on me I guess?” Besides she was somewhat curious to know what had him looking so weird when she walked in the door and maybe Sor returning would be like a watched pot. The longer she was conscious on the waiting the longer it would seem until he came back. She did feel her phone vibrate a couple times before turning off but figured it was a misdial. She hadn’t given out this number for the flyers. She’d check it after she heard the big news.

He sat patiently, opening his hold to allow her more room to drink from her cup as she thought. Draven raised his head to look out the window, not that there was much to see. Clouds swirled, gathered in a dark mass. Raindrops smattering the window, only to run down the pane when they got too heavy. His compliments to the enchanter, if he wasn't looking right at it he'd never know there was a storm it was so muted.
Feeling Yue shift, his attention drifted back to her. She'd apparently finished her hot chocolate, he raised a hand to tap on the mug, offering to take it since the side table was in reach for him but not for her. By the time he'd swung his arm out to deposit the empty cup beside his still half-full coffee, she'd started talking.
"You used a scrying or tracking spell?"
Yue was much more gifted with magic than he was so it wasn't a surprise she'd use her abilities to try and locate Sor. This was the first he'd heard of it though and it made him wonder if there was someone they could talk to that might have sight or buy a locator from. It was worth looking into at any rate. His mouth twisted in anxiety as she mentioned a bad feeling, but at least it confirmed he'd come home. Or as well as the limits of magic could. He wondered in what condition the little nezubat would be in when he returned. Drav wrapped his arms around her in response, holding her close as she continued. It was true there wasn't much they could do right now. Maybe if the sky had cleared up by the time his night class let out he'd take another look, though it would be too late to make calls into trying to find Sor.
So, she did want to hear it. Everything he'd thought about putting together in words ran away as he tried to remember it. Ah, well. It was probably easiest to just start from the beginning and bumble his way through. Releasing his hold enough to flip the folded letter in his hand, he kissed her shoulder before speaking.
"Remember when you asked me to imbue stones with you, and had brought up going to the orphanage? Well. I couldn't really get the thought out of my mind. Kept thinking about us growing up without a family really, and... well. I ended up writing a letter to them. I didn't expect a reply but..."
Lifting his other hand away from her to take the note in both hands, he unfolded it and held it in front of Yue to take. He leaned in to reread the letter from over her shoulder, grinning all over again at the words there.

“Well divination magic and scrying isn’t my strongest but I thought maybe it wouldn’t hurt to see if maybe I could find him that way” Yue replied handing the cup over to him when she was done. She was thinking about maybe breaking down and going into her savings to possibly hit up a store that had someone a bit more powerful than her look into it but she was truthfully a bit scared of the answer what if they had different results than her and they were negative results. She wanted to try by herself. However was that selfish what if she had just broken down yesterday and gone, could she have found him sooner and spared the household this gloom that was falling over it. There was a sudden thump in her lap and she noticed that magi had decided to join them on the couch. Ah she was wondering when the little guy was going to insist on gluing himself to her. Magi was technically older than Sor but she hadn’t added him to her colony until a good chunk after Sor. She knew the little bat had to be missing Sor as much as she was and she lightly pet the top of his head. She took the letter careful that she didn’t do her first though which was to snatch the letter out of his hand to read it. It would not be good form as a girlfriend to give your significant other papercuts and poured through the words. Two, they were going to give them two? Well it wasn’t like she couldn’t handle two and being of this age they probably would be due to start the academy soon or had just started. She nibbled on the bottom of her lip and folded the letter neatly. “Alright then, we might as well be productive while we’re waiting to make calls for Sor since we can’t search in the storm. Let’s go give them a home” No matter how depressed she was, being there for kids was first. What if the children had told them they were going to get parents? What if they were waiting? To not go in just because Sor was missing…? She’d make a note to call Morin or Meris and see if they could pop over and maybe check her dorm room in Asterion. She’d believe in her magic abilities that the gods weren’t going to take sor from her just yet. Okay so she just needed to be doing something…

Nodding as she explained, he watched as Magi landed on Yue and she patted his head. Poor guy was probably missing his buddy. He looked over to see how his rats were doing. Scrap and Creep were asleep in the cuddle cube thing, Rook was still sulking about being moved, and the double-winged wonder was who knows where. He wondered how any of the others would react if one went missing. Before his thoughts could get too somber, Draven felt the paper leave his fingers and he snapped his focus back to Yue. He wondered what her expression was at the moment. She was quiet while she read, and he moved his hands to lightly stroke up and down her shoulders as he rested his head on hers. They would be parents. His heart swelled with warmth again and he fought the urge to turn Yue around on his lap so he could kiss her and express with touch what he couldn't in words. Hearing paper rustling, he looked up to see her refolding the letter calmly. His hands stopped tracing paths along her arms and a sudden stone settled into his stomach. This wasn't the reaction he'd been expecting or hoping for. Shouts of glee, or even her being upset that he'd contacted them himself.
 "...Well?"
Her words were contained, and Sor was still the first thing on her mind. Not that he blamed her. Maybe he should've waited to say anything after all, but if she'd found the letter on his desk or anywhere really, that would've been super shitty. A bad way for her to find out, and stupid of him to even try and hide something from a Geist.
"Right now?"
She still wanted to go, but... well, he'd needed time to process the information too, right? Maybe she was just overwhelmed and still gathering her thoughts. And it was a huge deal, a lot to take in. A lot of change. ********, maybe he should have just let her handle the stones and orphanage thing the way she wanted to. But when he wrote that letter it just seemed to all make sense.
"Hey, I'm sorry Yue for not telling you I wrote them. I just... didn't want to get your hopes up if they never responded. I didn't mean to hide it. Are you upset?"
Do you not want to go? We don't have to do this. The question remained unspoken. It seemed like a bad idea, though now he was worried that this wasn't what she wanted after all. Perhaps she was even having second thoughts of having kids with him to begin with. Had he forced her into something she didn't want? His wings drooped slowly as his thoughts darkened further until he felt just cold and heavy. Dammit maybe he really ******** up.

There was a weird sound that escaped her. Probably something Spell would make on a really bad day actually. They weren’t on the same wave length where they? Maybe was it the whole different race thing again or maybe it was just a 'yue wasn’t sending the right mind probes to draven' thing. She knew that tone of voice from Draven and apparently they needed to make sure they were on the same wave length soon. She didn’t want Draven worrying and beating himself up for things she wasn’t even angry over. She was happy, really she was. Yue paused again and drummed her fingers on her thigh careful not to disturb Magi too much as she thought on exactly what she wanted to do. Well in truth she kind of wanted to go outside and b***h slap a random evil doer to get all her feelings out and have a do over, but the police tended to frown against that. She looked down at her lap again where Magi had uncurled himself to stare at her. Well that settled it. She lightly reached forward making sure Magi was secure in her hands. He was probably the only nezubat that would let her get away with what she was about to do. With a deep breathe she apparated from where she was very comfy to where she was standing right in front of Draven with her hands on her hips. Magi fluttering around in the air before he landed on her head. It could cut down a bit on the seriousness on what she was going to say but eh. “No… No… No. Stop right there” Yue replied. “I am upset because you know I love bats and Sor was a present from you. He was my first ever gift from you and he was my first Nezubat and he’s mine. So I will be a little weird because he’s missing and I’m worried really worried” Yue state removing one of her hands that were currently on her hips to hold a finger up in the air. “Secondly the fact that you sent the letter, and were thinking about what I brought up the other day enough to consider reaching out to an orphanage to make a little child happy makes me ridiculously happy. I… want… to… have…a … family…. With… you” she punched the last few words a bit in hopes that Draven would realize that she really truly did mean it. “I really really do, and this letter makes me really really happy, because this is the start of that family. We’re going to be parents to whomever this letter talks about.” “I may have jumped the gun a bit because what if the post was late, what if the orphanage told the children that there were possible parents coming in soon to take some of them home. Even if the orphanage kept it a surprise there are kids that are just sitting there waiting for a family in hopes that maybe they won’t have to spend this Hallowed Haunt alone. I realize maybe you need some time for that letter to sink in more, and it’s a bit my fault for worrying you because I’ve just been feeling rushed, like I have to get things done before they become worse, or what if I get them done too slow and bad things happen. Don’t doubt yourself and your decisions okay” and with that she leaned forward placed her hands on his shoulder and kissed his nose…. Which was promptly ruined two seconds later when Magi also slid down and bonked his little bat nose to draven’s forehead. “maaaaggiiiii”

Oh, that wasn't good. What was that even? A hiss? And now her fingertips were drumming dully on her thigh. His thoughts reeled as red, flashing lights started going off in his mind, blazing a loud warning.
"Er... Yue?"
She was moving and he suddenly wondered if he should protect his face when her body phased out. ********, not good. His muscles went rigid with alarm and his head snapped to look up as she now stood before him, cutting quite an imposing with her hands on her hips despite being so much shorter than him. Draven hoped his eyes didn't betray where he was looking and perhaps risk more of her ire as he watched the white Magi flutter around briefly before lighting atop her hair. He wasn't sure if that was adorable or terrifying now that they were both peering at him.
He opened his mouth, trying to desperately to come up with some sort of defense but his brain just wasn't switching gears fast enough. His jaw snapped shut though as Yue commanded him to stop. Holding up his hands in a placating gesture, he tucked his wings back in as best he could as they dragged on the couch that wasn't much designed to consider the large appendages and debated what to say to defuse the situation. His lips parted again but there was nothing to say anyway, and she was now speaking. Closing his mouth yet again, his hands fell slowly as she spoke of Sor and raised a hand to to point which reminded him fiercely of caretakers waggling their fingers when they scolded.
His expression softened as she continued and explained how she felt about the letter. She wasn't mad after all, just missing Sor. Not that he blamed her. Sighing in relief, his shoulders relaxed as he watched her. She seemed so serious, so convicted, and then I… want… to… have…a … family…. With… you.
Leaning back at the force of her tone, his eyes unfocused for a moment. He knew, of course, why else would she ask about imbuing stones together, but somehow this struck him deeply; ringing in his mind when it was so clearly spelled out. What started off as a soft smile quickly grew into a full out grin as she talked about them being a family again. That they were going to be parents. They were going to have a kid. Kids. Here.
He shook his head no when she brought up him needing time. He'd already had his little freak out earlier in the kitchen, and although he wasn't sure if it had all sunk in yet it was entirely possible that there was just never going to be a point where this felt completely real and solid until they were here. Her fears were legit ones though, and he could understand her feeling the pressure. He had himself. With university coursework, grading papers at night to make extra cash, picking up odd jobs on the campus grounds, and of course Sor missing and trying to get the apartment ready and everything else he'd felt pretty worn ragged. But that exhaustion couldn't touch the thrill buzzing through him right now. He was still lost in his thoughts when she leaned in and dispelled them. Blinking at her, he held still in curiosity as she brought her lips to his nose for a soft kiss. Closing his eyes for a moment, they flew open again nearly immediately when he felt a thump on his forehead. All he could see was white fuzz in front of his face and Yue's exasperated tone. Chuckling, he pulled his head away enough to raise a finger and brush against the nezubat's fur.
"Aw, love you too Magi."
Reaching out to grab Yue's shoulders, he pulled away enough to look into her eyes, trying desperately to convey all the emotions he was feeling. Concern, love, fear, adoration, hope, and a bunch of others he couldn't quite put a name to at the moment. He was just so hopelessly in love with her. His chest felt tight, nearly painful with it, and he had such an urge to yell, to roar, with the fierceness of what he was feeling. Instead, his lips curled into a smirk as he got an idea.
Of the two of them, he wasn't typically the bold one, but the swirl of emotion was nearly intoxicating and he couldn't keep everything pent up anymore. His hands slid down to grasp her wrists as he tugged her to him, reaching out to grab her with one arm and an one wing extending reflexively as if to break her fall, but he spun her by pulling on one arm so that she fell into his lap. Magi seemed to be clinging to her, and he made sure not to crush the poor guy as he wrapped Yue up in his arms and looked down at her, his heart beating wildly.
He brought her nearer to him, refusing to break eye contact.
"Hey Yue. We're gonna be parents."
He couldn't help but snort at that, amused and happy and just punch-drunk in love. He leaned in, his hair spilling everywhere and getting in the way. Of course it was. He shook his head to relocate as much as possible, laughing.
"Guess you're stuck with me now, huh?"
Trying again, he brought his face closer to hers and claimed her lips with his own, drinking her in as his head spun giddily.
