Kadali had, for about a week, been developing a plan. Someone new had come to the school, and he was quiet. Shy, probably. She hadn't seen him play with the other kids, and for awhile Kadali had wondered if he just didn't know how to make friends. As the days passed she found herself distracted from class, eying the kid from the corner of her eye here and there. He didn't even pass notes! He didn't even whisper to anyone! Gasp! She always was talking in class!
Eventually, it just became too much. The mutated Chimera was in the hallway, leaning against the wall with her books in her arms. It was the last class of the day, and she was ready. Finally, he left the classroom, and Kadali toddled over to the new kids side, clutching her books tightly to her chest.
"Umm, Leif, right?" She almost whispered, suddenly feeling just a tad bit shy. Fluttering her wings in excitement, the hybrid wagged her tail, quickly firing another response before he could speak. "Um! I'm Kadali! Nice to meet you."

Leif was settling into the Academy alright, so he thought. His new dad Corben taught here, so he got to see him throughout the day, and he even got to go home to a real home at night, so that was nice. But, he wasn't the most sociable. He hadn't really been harassed that much at the orphanage, but there were comments about his eyes that weren't very nice.. He wasn't sure how friendly the academy kids would be, so he hadn't made much effort to branch out past his comfort zone.
At least, not until just now. He blinked, startled by the sudden approach of the pink and yellow chimera. He stared at her for a moment, piecing together what she looked like, and then nodded numbly. She was another mutant! How had he not noticed?? "Y-yes, it's Leif." He managed a small smile. "It's nice to meet you too, Kadali... um... I like your hair." He nodded. That was how friends were made, right? Complimenting people? It had worked at the orphanage, so why not here?

Her eyes positively lit up when the other responded, wings hurriedly flapping as her cheeks turned a soft pink. He liked her hair? Really? A hand absently raised to twirl a strand around her finger, releasing the strand with a tiny smile. She always thought it was so busy! People were always commenting on how "trippy" her hair was in a ponytail – whatever that meant!
"Really? Thank you! I like yours, too!" She squeaked back. She had stopped walking at this point, noticing the distance growing between them before she rapidly toddled back to him.
"I like your eyes, too! How come your new? Did you move here?"

He watched her move on ahead... apparently he'd said a good thing! Yes, good. He could tell his father about that, later. He was sure Corben would be proud. She moved on back to him, and complimented his hair too! And... and his eyes? That was new. He blinked, absently pushing some hair out of his face.
"O-oh, really...? Thank you." He nodded with a small smile. Corben hadn't even brought them up, which had been a small relief, but it was nice to hear that they were nice eyes... "Oh, um... Not really. My dad works here and he adopted me." He nodded again, slowly picking up his pace to match hers a little better. "Have you been here always?"

Kadali shook her head at the question, lighting up. He was adopted?! How cool! Kadali and Baum never were picked up. Actually, they had been disposed of, instead of claimed. Turning around to face him and walk backwards, she held her hands behind her back, a grin appearing.
"Nope! Actually, actualllly, we were trash babies." It was obvious she didn't clearly comprehend what she was saying. She had been told (by a caretaker who let the story slip) they were found in the trash, and Kadali had never once sat down and really considered what that meant. She was too young! That, and too carefree. Baum, however, had many more feelings about the subject at hand.
"They found us in the trash and took us in! Oh, don't worry, we take baths, so we're clean!"

Did.... Did she just...? 'Trash babies???' Leif couldn't help but stare in horror, mouth slightly agape as he tried to process the information. Why was she so cheerful?? That was terrible!! Who would throw babies in the trash!? Suddenly being abandoned at the orphanage by whoever his birth parents were didn't seem so bad after all. At least he hadn't been put into a dumpster!
"O-oh..! I-- w-wow... I'm sorry that happened?" He was at a loss of what to say... So he just reached out to pat her shoulder gently. That was a comforting move Corben did when he felt sad.. "I believe you! You don't look or smell dirty at all." He nodded, figuring it was best to affirm her positive attitude now. No need to dwell on sad things, right?

She didn't really comprehend the stare of horror. What? Was it something she said? Her wings fluttered in confusion as she tilted her head, eyes flicking to glance at his hand when it patted her. She didn't seem too fazed, even letting out a bright laugh.
"Well, I did just say we take showers!" Abruptly, as if being a trash baby wasn't a big deal (which it really was)
"They found us in the trash and took us in! Oh, don't worry, we take baths, so we're clean!"
