Ever eager to please, Something Good quickly got involved in the call wood-gathering duty, a constant need as the festival played out. It would make a nice break from food-finding, anyway, which both he and his mother had found... far more unpredictable. Still! This would surely be a rewarding task. He promised Find Peace he'd be careful and soon back, and with that, Something Good took off deeper into the swamp, his spirits as high as his steps.

Right off, Boon was finding twigs and small pieces that he could easily carry as he searched for more substantial pieces. So far, so good!

And speaking of substantial, Boon found himself face-to-bark with a large log that just would not cooperate. Try as he might, pushing against it with horns gouging and neck straining, it would not budge near easily enough to make it worth pushing the rotten thing all the way back. He tried for a while, too.

No, really. Boon tried for longer than any kin with good sense would have. It only took another party finding him and gently offering to take it back for him to finally give it a break, shaking himself out, a little embarrassed once he realized how stubborn he'd been about it.

It was a tiny consolation prize, but Boon finally happened on a small scattering of sticks to pick up with his previous find.

Ah, but now things were picking up. A log, far more manageable, made the mistake of crossing Boon's path. But actually, logs don't work that way, so it was more like he just sort of almost tripped over it but was glad to take it.

There were better things to find. For instance, a big beautiful branch, resplendent with leaves that would surely go up nicely in the flames. Boon eagerly snatched it up in his teeth, log and twigs balanced on his broad back, looking like a total pro out here.

Except not a total pro, because pros didn't lose their twigs to a deceptively deep puddle they accidentally stepped into. Boon lowed in anguish, allowing himself a moment of self-pity.

It didn't last long, fortunately, as Boon spotted another branch he might be able to fit with the other. Oh well sure enough! Somewhat awkwardly, but pleased beyond all else, Boon carried his pieces back to the bonfire.
