They'd been there for some time - Quite a few months, in fact! Usually the jungle was a safe place to visit, other than spiders and snakes, but for half a year now, nearly a full year, a herd of buffalo has been hanging out in the stretch of jungle on the south side of the Bahari territory - Right between the Bahari and the Kizingo'zaa! What's worse, even as summer draws to an end and the rains of winter are impending, the heat has been hanging heavy in the air, and especially in the trees, making the massive and dangerous bovines VERY testy and angry.

And then it got worse.

Three strangers were spotted on the other side of the jungle, but before anybody could go warn them about the buffalo, and before the strangers knew about the local lions, they went in. Now the buffalo have gone from testy at best to down right ANGRY. A flash here, a flash there, a lion up a tree - Now they need rescuing!

Welcome to part one of two for the Bahari pride meta!

Any of you been paying attention to the RP prompt ideas? The buffalo have been around since the first set of prompts, slowly going from a simple nuisance to a real danger! And now it's time to drive them out! Yes, there's lost cubs in the jungle, but right now the buffalo are a VERY pressing matter!

Plus if one's brought down, it makes for a tasty prize!

Now for the ground rules!

Quote:
- This one is for Bahari'mtoto members only! Sorry, rogues and neighbors :<
- This will be dice-based! But more information on THAT is to come! Mmm, mystery ~
- Cubs are NOT permitted in this RP! Adolescents ARE, though! Too dangerous for tiny cubs!
- When you post, place at either the top or bottom, in bold and underlined black, if you are willing to have any lions injured by the buffalo, and if so which ones!
- You may only win one prize from the meta over-all!
- Wait for somebody else to post before you post again!
- Which speaking of, posts should be at least a paragraph each. If you're having trouble filling in a post, dive into your character's psyche a bit. It's always fun to do!

I think that about covers it for this post!

So what about PRIZES?

Glad you asked, friend, GLAD you asked!

User Image
Anemone Octopus Daughter of the Cursed One

Behold the prizes! Two of these three lions will be given out in this Meta RP - The other in the next!

There's just two rules for these guys!

- They may NOT leave the Bahari!
- The blue-eyed lioness is a daughter of Xavier, but she shares NO blood relation to Chafuko'dimbwi, as Dimbwi is from Xavier's PREVIOUS life, and this lioness is from his CURRENT life. NEITHER of these facts may change!

Other than that, they can have any name, and take ANY rank within the pride!

User Image The rumble of thunder in the distance told him of a storm. At this point in the year, it was hard to tell if it was coming or going, that time when the seasons changed. What he was certain of, though, were the strangers in the jungle, and the aggitated buffalo. Lately, one lioness, Athena, had taken the helm when Ram couldn't, helping deal with problems with her large stature and carefully-directed aggression. But as of late, she'd been off doing something, occupied with personal matters.

And thus her mate had gone into the trees to find the strangers. He hadn't come back out yet. Ganesha jumped on a rock, sending out a roar to the rest of the pride, for anybody who would come to his call. Any member of the pride could have done it, but Ganesha was the first to act this time. Mongolia and the three strangers needed to be saved, and it couldn't be a solo lion going in.

|Rytir may be injured, but not fatally (i.e. nothing more than broken bones). Sha'uri may not be injured (scrapes and bruises not included).|
|[OOC - I just noticed Rytir's rank is wrong on his cert. I will post for a correction ASAP.]|

Rytir's head swung up from its resting place on Sha'uri's back as he faced the direction the roar had come from, his ears perked forward warily. Sha'uri's only reaction was to twitch her ears and cuddle tighter against her mate. Rytir smiled down at her, but the urgency in that roar was not to be ignored; gently, he pushed at his mate with his muzzle.

"Come, now, Sleeping Beauty. We must heed that call. There is no mistaking the importance in its tone." Rytir coaxed, always sounding a bit too formal.

When his words didn't work, he chuckled, shook his head and rose to his paws - effectively removing Sha'uri's support. The pale lioness fell onto her side in the sand. Opening her eyes slowly, she glared at Rytir with a cubbish scowl on her face, but only for a moment. Her bubbly happiness popped right back, and she sprang to her paws, shaking the dirt from her pelt. She padded over to her ocean-striped mate and bumped her body against his playfully, falling in step beside him as he started toward the roar.

Rytir had some idea what this was about - the whole pride was aware of the herd of angry buffalo, and now of the lions trapped in the jungle with them. He had thought it would only be a matter of time until they decided to arrange a rescue. Even if he was a simple Pombuka, in his time before he joined the Bahari, he was a skilled warrior, and those talents had remained. He would definitely offer to assist.

User Image The roar split the silence of the jungle. Well...'silence'. There was always some noise coming from the bugs and other creatures that called the place home. After a certain amount of time they just faded into the background, became normal and expected. The roar, however, certainly wasn't normal.

Kaiholo lifted his head from his work digging, his paws dirty from the wet soil. In his time here with the Bahari he'd never experienced such an urgent fall for help like that. Abandoning the den, he made his way through the trees. This was the direction the buffalo were in and he could only assume something had happened concerning them. This wasn't going to end well.

He arrived at Ganeesha's side not long after setting off which worried him. Were the buffalo really this close to their living area? Two more lions appeared and he nodded in their direction, his tail swishing irritably from side to side. He could hear noises not far off that didn't sound good.

Kaiholo can sustain injuries, but none that are life-threatening. Broken bones would be the extent, but things like torn ears, wounds that scar, kinked tails, etc are allowable.

[OOC: Also I forgot to mention so editing in here, I'd like to be kept off the raffle list please. Spread the Bahari love! -pats Kaiholo who was won last Meta- XD]

The call to the aid of the strangers was pride-wide, so it wasn't surprise that already there were quite a few lions gathered, ready to take on the buffalo. Although the Bahari had been through a lot, they never failed to help someone in need. That was something that continually made Faatina thankful to be born within such a community.

When she had heard the news, Faatina had rushed to the gathering site. At least, she thought she'd rushed - truth was, she wasn't nearly the first one there. In fact, it looked as if the first one there, who had claimed his place atop a large rock, was her nephew, one of Mahatma'Kanja's sons. It warmed her heart to see some of her family here, ready to place themselves in danger to help others. It was incredible, it really was. Faatina padded forward, eyes slipping from the gathered pride members to the darkening sky. Far-off it seemed a storm was rolling this way. 'That could complicate things,' she thought as she joined the group gathered around Ganeesha.

Hey, guess what! Pretty much all of these folks can be injured and maimed! o/

The last few weeks had proved eventful, if only because he had momentarily forgotten the dates and been dragged by the ear to the Mummer's Ball. He had just about recovered from the festivities, never one to truly enjoy large social events. Suffice it to say that the lion had been enjoying the possibility of relaxing for the last week or two with next to no responsibility. Alas, while the buffalo remained in his territory he surmised that relaxation really wasn't on the cards and eventually he was going to have to do something about them.

...It wasn't that they had caused any harm yet, but eventually they would destroy the jungle if left unchecked.

Alas, just as he had settled himself comfortably on to one of his more favoured rocks, the lion caught the alarmed roar on the wind.

What now?

His mind groaned at the effort required to rise to his paws again and with a disgruntled snort he pushed himself from his perch and moved towards the sound. What he saw when he got there wasn't entirely what he had expected...

User Image
The sea had been unhappy and disturbed... Even now the clouds rolled in thunderously on the horizon and while there was no guarantee they would sweep on to the Bahari's home, they did paint rather a picture of foreboding. Whether Euphyrates liked it or not, something was on its way and it wasn't going to be welcoming or pleasant. Unfortunately, the clouds provided no further hint as to what might be coming their way...

Thus, when the roar swept out across the pride a shiver went down his spine and begrudgingly he brought himself to his paws. He had never been a fighter, he'd definitely never aspired to be one anyway, and yet there was something about the tone that had made it perfectly clear his assistance may be required, no matter how small.

It wasn't long before Euphyrates was on his way towards the source, though the uncertainty was written upon his face.

User Image
There was a high chance that this call to arms had something to do with the buffalo. Frankly, there was nothing in or around the pride (that he had seen), that gave reason for it to be an alternative. He had just come home from the roguelands and nothing, for the time being, had indicated that there was any danger lurking outside. Oh, he wasn't naive to assume that the pride was completely immune to outside forces, but he certainly knew there were known present at this time!

"What have they done..." he murmured under his breath, padding towards the group with a sense of purpose. His head was somewhat bowed, one eye squinted as he regarded the crowd. As it stood, he couldn't hear anything peculiar so he was clearly missing something...

All of the boys can take minimal damage (scratches, sprains, bruises, etc), but only Patton, Buziba and Kaikane will be allowed to take anything more severe (broken bones, serious scars, etc...nothing fatal)

User Image

He had been drawing figures in the sands when the roar cut through the pride. Oh? Buziba's bi-colored gaze flashed with worry as he quickly cut through the sands to move towards the noise. What was the problem that so many of the Bahari were gathering? He had noticed that their newest neighbors had been quite content to take up the jungle, but the lion had been hopeful that eventually the buffalo would move out. However, it seemed such a hope was not fruitful. As he had feared a problem had finally arose...

User Image User Image

"Seems like a storm is rolling in." Patton commented quietly as his son bristled next to him, "You're not going to miss out are you, Kaikane?" The mwani eyed his thrill seeking son who was already preparing to move out towards the source of the roar. Anytime there was going to be a fight Kaikane would throw himself out there...Patton held back a sigh. I guess it's a good thing I'm a healer.

"We can't let them go in alone." Kaikane's fur bristled, "I swear if it's those damned buffalo I'm ready to bring in some meat." He flashed a wry smile towards his father, "Stay home if you want, I'm going to go help." He was a fighter after all! There was no way he was going to let anyone get hurt on his watch.

Watching his son's hurried pawsteps over the sand Patton finally sighed, "I suppose I should go make sure no one gets too severely injured." What sort of Mwani would he be to let them go in alone? They definitely would need someone to help patch up wounds right away. Previously a rogue for many years before coming to the Bahari had toughened the older lion. He was used to healing on the run after all...and those buffalo would definitely not be up for giving any lion a break.

User Image

Watching the two green lions dash off Avira frowned. I knew the buffalo had started becoming a problem... He just hoped that everyone would be alright. Surely with such a group of lions they could do something about it. Already the lion had started missing out on visiting the K'Z because of the herd, but now he truly was worried. I guess now is a good time as any to take care of this problem. Quietly, Avira stalked over the sands towards where the rest of the pride was gathering.

If there was a fight to be had, then he would be ready.

As lions gathered, mostly strong males, Ganeesh shifted on his paws. His gaze scanned the crowd, spotting Ram amid the lions. Hopefully this wouldn't complicate things more, would it? He was a tad afraid of their king potentially being killed. That wouldn't do with a pride struggling to keep a line of succession going. He frowned, taking a deep breath. "Thank you, everybody who's come! As you know, there's been buffalo in the jungle between us and our neighbors, necessitating a long route around it to visit them. But it's worse now, because three strangers coming to our pride's lands went right in through that jungle!"

He chewed his lower lip, sun-yellow eyes shifting to the trees. "Mongolia, our local leopon, has gone in in some effort to help them, but I fear being half leopard isn't going to help him much in this! So we need to go in there, as a group! It'll be dangerous, certainly, because buffalo have been known to kill even cubs without provocation, but surely as a group we can at least help get Mongolia and the three strangers out of there! Are you all ready to go in there?"

"Well, this isn't good." Wimbi murmured to herself. Since most of her crafting materials came from the wooded jungle, the herd had caused her enough personal problems as it was. The older lioness had tried to stay clear of the larger ones, making herself seem small amidst the testy creatures, but now Wimbi didn't dare get close without someone else to back her up. Even with help she still didn't feel entirely safe.

It seemed that while she had known not to get too close the strangers had not. "I'm ready to go!" She called out. Even though she was nearing the end of her prime, Wimbi was still an active lioness and a strong one to boot. She was confident that she could help.

User Image

Nye couldn't say why she had decided to help out, but the lioness was there anyway. She craned her neck to see the speaker over several other manes. This was going to be one of the more daring things she had ever done, and as a rule, something that should have been avoided. Still, Nyekundu'ni'upendo wasn't one to stay home when work needed to be done. Hopefully she wouldn't have to deal with the beasts herself, though. That's what worried her. She wasn't a very strong lioness, though she could provide a distraction.

I just have to be faster than they are. That shouldn't be hard...right? ....I'm doomed.

User Image

Clea moved closer to her mate and son with a proud smirk on her maw. "You worry too much, Pattin. Those buffalo won't stand a chance against us." She had wondered why none of this had come to her in a vision, but Clea couldn't say she worried over it much. Her visions were sparse, something of an erratic sort, and she'd only ever had two in her lifetime. Both after the birth of her sons. Not that she needed one of them to tell her how this was going to go; they would be victorious. Why wouldn't they? They were smarter than the raging bovines, and could out maneuver them. This was a sure thing.

All of my girls are welcome to be injured to whatever degree you see fit. Since I won a Meta prize last time, I would like to be left out of the raffle, though. c:

|| Ram ||
Ah, if anyone to remind him that he were in need of a bride he would probably make his despair clear. It wasn't that he wanted to settle down per-say, but he was acutely aware that it was needed. He had been looking, but in the grand scheme of things it was wholly inappropriate for him to allow others to get in harms way while he watched from the sidelines. If it was his time to die, then so be it, if it wasn't...well then he'd count himself fortunate.

He pursed his lips at the lion's suggestion and shook his head, passing through the gathering crowd gently so that he might speak to Ganeesha in a more hushed tone. He had no intention of undermining him, and would sooner that he led this assault from start to finish. Suffice it to say that Ram was an individual who preferred to empower others, but not at the cost of their lives...

"Might I suggest," he murmured in low tones so that only Ganeesha could hear him. "That you split in to groups, if we are all in one spot we will be easily trampled," he pointed out softly and raised a brow. Gan was right of course, they would need everyone to participate, but a full frontal assault didn't seem terribly smart.

|| Solomon ||
Well, at least I'm big... The lion mused from his place at the back of the gathering lions. He towered above most, in large part due to his heritage, and thus he was well equipped as a Bumani. In that respect he was at an advantage, he could throw his weight against these prey beasts as and when required, he just didn't fancy his chances all that much against a group of them. After all he wasn't blind and he had seen the horns on those things, one wrong move and he would be impaled!

"Oi," he murmured to no one in particular and cast his gaze around to inspect who would be participating. If need be, sending another off to find further bodies might be needed, he had a feeling he could grab someone at short notice to rally the troops if and when required. Gods knew they could do with a few more to add to the mass.

Kai shifted his weight on his paws as more lions trickled in. Their numbers were encouraging, but he felt as if going up against a whole herd of angry buffalo was still rather dangerous. Who were these strangers, coming into a jungle as if they owned the place? Surely they could have scouted ahead...ah well. It was neither here nor there now.

He listened to Ram and Ganeesha talk about how was best to approach the forest, keeping his mouth shut. He wasn't one to offer insight unless he knew exactly what he was talking about, and this wasn't one of those times.

Rytir had waited patiently as several lions had gathered to see what was going on, nodding amicably toward many. His way of joining the pride had been rather high profile and, as such, he was at least acquainted with most of his pridemates. Sha'uri stayed by his side, pelts always brushing, smiling at those she recognized. Her posture indicated her growing anxiety as she started to understand the weight of the situation. Rytir pushed against her to offer comfort and she returned the pressure, but her pelt continued to bristle all the same as Ganeesh spoke.

"I will assist!" Rytir answered, his call almost a roar. The large lion was strong, and very confident that he would be able to help. Alone, he doubted he'd affect a buffalo very much, but as a group, he was positive he could deal considerable damage.

"Me, too!" Sha'uri shouted, though her voice shook noticeably. The pale lion was eager to assist her pride, but her innocence made her timid when confronted with violence, and she could only assume violence was inevitable here. She did not look forward to anyone getting hurt - even the troublesome buffalo! - but she understood the necessity. Besides, she would never let Rytir go into a fight alone.

As a few more lions drifted up, Ganeesh's attention was drawn to Ram. "Split up? Hm..." He was thoughtful as he took a seat, ears flicking as a few lions sounded off on their willingness to face the danger in the jungle. He nodded a bit, frowning. "That does seem a good idea, yeah. It hopefully reduces how many lions are injured." Of course, he wasn't much of a tactician. Finally, he rose back to his paws, looking at the assembled group. "We will split into groups! One will go in from the north, one from the south! Who's going which way? Please try to make the numbers as balanced as possible!"

OOC: Simply have your lion say North or South! I'll give this until Wednesday ~ Instead of the week I gave before xD;

Finally, some decision were being made. Kai flicked his tail back and forth as he was presented with the question. It was hard to tell where the buffalo were and where those that needed help would be located, but they had to start somewhere.

"South," he said, speaking up first. It didn't really matter to him which way he went but since it was put in their own paws he said the first thing that came to him. Even as he spoke he began to move in the direction he'd be heading in ultimately, pausing once he reached a clear space. Perhaps the other lions that wished to go in this direction would gather with him so they could make sure the groups were somewhat even.
