Character Name: Leorim Alyoia (Lo-rim A-loy-a)
          Alias: "The Blackbird"
          Gender: Male
          Class: Assassin
          Path: Battler

          Personality:

Leor has earned a reputation as being referred to as The Blackbird, for the simple silent, calculating, cold, and absolutely merciless way he handles murder. He prefers to use this in lieu of his real name to keep it as hidden and alien as possible to avoid detection. Leor prefers to listen and not do or say anything, no matter his opinion. Normally he stands silent as a statue and soaks in knowledge and information.

When he is asked his opinion, it is toneless, efficient, and logical; not emotional in the slightest. His reasoning is almost always on the fence, and his own opinions are those he normally keeps to himself, preferring internally to take in all sides. If his master barks an order, however, he does it in an instant. He views having too heavy an opinion or bias to one side puts down ties and attaches you to something. Leor doesn't want attached to anything, or it breaks up his willingness to kill and take orders to do so. He very much enjoys his assassin work.

A favorite value of his is the value of surprise; "any enemy can be thrown off guard by something silent and fast flying toward it without provocation." One of Leor's many tactics in his assassin work.

His sharp wit and brutal coldness when in the face of commands is also due to his inherent loyalty to anyone holding the money. He will kill if told immediately, if only because his job as assassin forbids him from defying silencing orders and his living is based on it. His training states to "do" no matter what it is or why, and does not tolerate hesitation or questions. This includes any age; but he'll up the price. Depending on their circumstances, it actually may just pull a few cords in his guilt and sympathy. These hits are rare, but when they happen, they're the last on his list, and his least favorite. The reason, he boasts, is that there's "no sport" in it. It's actually not why in the slightest.

Leor picked up Alchemy to study the uses of both poison and healing in his efforts to keep himself alive, and take out hard-to-corner targets in his work. When his blades fail him, his silent knowledge of herbology always backs him up.

Deep down, however, Leor is a sad little thing. Losing his entire family, especially in the manner he did wherein he blames himself, is exactly what made him so mute, aloof and brutal. There are times occasionally, depending on very rare circumstances, that he can connect with others and feel a pang of guilt, understanding, or sympathy. But they are very rarely while on missions.

          Biography/Background:

Leor has no living family. And no home either. As a child, the Orderites had burned down his home when they were gone that day out to market and had managed to avoid the ambush. But this left them with nothing, a thing that Leor had begun to feel deep in his stomach during times of famine and cold hard nights on rocky, moist forest floors. This made him bitter, angry, and vengeful at first, and he lashed out at everyone he knew and loved, growing more and more distant from those who cared about him. He felt guilt, a sadness knowing what he was doing was wrong, but couldn't quite gain control over his own emotions.

Over time, he'd eventually distanced himself so far, no one in his family seemed to care about him at all. He could disappear into the dark of night for days in search of his own food, supplies, or water and not one would ask where he'd been upon returning. They also would disappear on their own, and vanish for days at a time. The family was breaking up; splitting by the pressures of a homeless life little by little, over the course of several months. Instead of working together, they'd begun to turn on each other, becoming selfish and unreasonable toward any one single solution to an idea.

On one such night, he'd disappeared for longer than usual. The moon had been hidden that night, covered by thick storm clouds that threatened to rain; something the traveling group would have welcomed with open arms. But upon arriving back at their makeshift camp, he found it deserted. The tents were shredded, papers and lanterns were flung about, shattered, and disheveled. Nothing was where it was, dug out and searched through. They'd been raided, and he wasn't there to fight for them. He had no idea where they were, and searched the area for days trying to find some sort of giveaway, a footprint, scrap of cloth, anything that would point him some direction to go.

Months went by and there were no leads. He walked one direction and slowly traveled around the continent, checking the ocean-side for any hint anyone had seen someone. But always he found nothing. He wore himself thin, barely living, and finally traveled to the city, having given up any form of hope. They would have been long dead by now, he thought. It was there he met with his nameless, anonymous master, who trained him in the art of assassin work and using fake names, and taught him to hold in his emotions; to hide that which hurt and to keep no extreme opinion one side or the other to maintain self-balance. After learning all he could, he wandered into the world to start his own life, and hopefully join the Order of the Onyx. Inwardly, he still believes his family's fallout and vanishing was his fault, and embraced his horrible side in favor of some form of peace.

          Thoughts on the Great Engagement:

An annoying inconvenience. The war is everywhere, and it affects everything he does. Cross and Orderite on the road when hunting a fellow Oblivionite? Well there goes any stealth the second he's spotted, a flinging of pointless obscenities and loudness. The war is something he's never quite fully understood. To him, killing a target solves the problem; so why haven't either sides finally finished the other off yet? What are they dragging this out for? He is incredibly cynical, but doesn't take one particular side over the other. He's kind of in his own position.

          Thoughts on the Magescian Races:

Leor finds himself most often siding with his own race. They've fed him, kept him clothed, kept him warm, and most of all; alive. The other races don't particularly disgust or intrigue him, and that includes the Orderites; but only on the grounds that he's been ordered to kill so many people by now that they all begin to blur together. One person of one race may irritate him one day by gabbing his ear off while someone else of the same race walking down the street beside him silently won't. To him, everyone is a target. Even his own commanding master, should someone offer right.

Thoughts on the Dragons and Khehora:

The dragons throw him into an all-consuming envy. The power they wield and their ability to use it whenever they wish is mind-blowing to him, and he wishes no matter what that he could get his hands on it. He knows it will never come to pass, however, but he holds it within himself in order to better what he does and be the absolute best at it. There is no particular element he favors over the other, as each of them to him as their benefits as well as disadvantages, but he feels overall that no matter what it was, a dragon's power is all-powerful, something to awe at, and something to desire to strive for.

The Khehora on the other hand are the closest he could ever find himself coming to another living being. He sees many benefits to having one as a partner; and I say partner because he thinks the word "companion" is for a pet, and therefore something to be emotionally invested in. (He lies to himself, however. His incredibly hard-to-find soft side would absolutely bond with a Khehora over time, as it would remind him very much of the broken missing pieces of family history that will now forever lie unforgiven. It's a dark side he would absolutely never admit to anyone.)

Leorim looks badass. emotion_dowant Poor little sad blackbird. I think you've done a great job fleshing out his personality and background. Since he is a "blade for hire" I have to wonder how far he truly goes. You say:

Quote:
His training states to "do" no matter what it is or why, and does not tolerate hesitation or questions.

Would he kill a child if paid enough to do it? An infant? A pregnant woman? Many assassins absolutely would, though some would price higher, and I am just wondering if his moral boundaries are truly blurred grey-black by coin, or if he draws lines somewhere.

But! That's not really a flaw in his design, just a curiosity of mine. =D So I am going to stamp approval on him as is. As to quotes - each character gets a quote put on their cert for each stage. It is kind of just used to give voice to their personality - something they might say or something that embodies their values and thoughts at that stage. :]

If you're curious, you can look through other character journals and the quotes on their certs to get an idea.

Ahh, I love him. I'm curious about the same thing Uke is. How far will he go?

He's approved on my end as well. We'll get a journal set up for him ASAP and as soon as you've got a quote figured out for his cert...then I'll get to work on that.

Oh, I left that out, unsure if you were willing to go that dark in your shop. >.> I updated with: "This includes any age; but he'll up the price. That would be something that would definitely bother him a little and probably give 'em a flashback. DX Poor lil thing. But yeah, he'd do it if paid more. Way more. I doubt they'd give him many contracts based on that because of how much he'd be stubborn about it, haha.

And oooh that's what those were, alright. I put a quote right in his personality section and hadn't even realized! XD I shortened it down a little bit more, but mine may still be a bit long. D. If you guys want me to change it, I'll come up with something else.

As long as the actual RP remains PG-13 and within Gaia's own rules/limits we're pretty much alright with anything you want to throw out there. But if you're ever in doubt about something, feel free to PM one of us with questions (or the mule).

I should be able to work with that quote and fit it on the cert. If I can't, I'll let you know. -nods-

Good to know. :] As Tang said, we are fine with basically as dark as you want to go, but when you do go dark, keep the detail down enough to follow gaia's rules, and if you think it may be something especially triggering, put a warning at the front of the RP or something since some people do read other people's RPs around here and we don't want anyone accidentally reading something that really upsets them BUT we want you to have basically full freedom to write the character as they are. :]
