The second dream also shatters into a thousand or more pieces and she finds herself standing in front of a single green door. Just looking at it makes her feel sick. Her head pounds and her heart aches, but despite this she can't look away. A part of her already knows that this is the final door, the end. She knows know that she will never wake up, she can't at this point and she briefly wonders if all the other infecter also experienced this. Well, she can't go back anymore so the only choice she has left is to move forward.
She touches the doorknob and is overwhelmed by recent memories. Memories of her life after the incident. She remembers when she was found by fellow faction members where she was hiding, severally dehydrated and hungry. She remembers the feeling of belonging and of her newfound family. A silent tear makes her way down her cheek. She remembers the library, her happy place and more tear makes their way down her cheek as she realize that she will never be able to read a book again. She remembers the casino and the two people that were killed because of her. She remembers the feeling of freedom as she manages to break out through the casino doors. She remembers the strange fog, the creepy looking hospital and everything that went on in there. From the endless ringing phones in her head to the helpless victim that she hurt in the strangest dream so far. She knew the moment that she found out she was infected that she would one day become like them, the undead. And that time was now. The virus has already taken over her body and she knows she is about to die. She is ready; she has been for a long time.
Her consciousness stirs, and yet it doesn't. Alice is no longer one. Like the other before her she is now part of something else, something much larger. Alice is now the virus, hooked up to the entire network. It’s like a big database and everything it knows Alice knows too. Her existence, her memories belong to the virus. She is a part of its collection.
“No”
Something within the body struggles. That something is strong. It holds on to some memories and refuses to let go. A struggle begins and in the end the memories and the person behind them, Alice, breaks free from the body.
Alice is now something. What this something is she does not know and she briefly wonders if this is what people men when they say that they have an out-of-body experience. She is no longer human, more like s sliver of what she ones were. Will she be able to return or is it too late? She doesn’t know.
Her instinct tells her to find a vessel of some sort and with the help from thousands of vines she manages to create a body like structure, a vessel. It’s first now that she realizes that she is in a corridor of some sort, a very green and viney corridor. The vines are hard to control, but she manages eventually. As she makes her way to look for her body she encounters something else. A face. It’s familiar, but it takes a while for her to remember. Then it hits her. It’s the person from the highway, the one that tried to save me. Feeling guilty for the attack she decides to rescue the person. A favor for a favor.
The vines that was consuming the face leaves as she touches them and after a short while the body is free from its prison. The body is dragged farther and farther away from the center of creation. The vines are unraveling the farther she goes. She reaches a set of stair and makes her way downwards. At the bottom the exit awaits, but she doesn’t have enough vines or existence to leave. Shadows can be seen in the window and with a final push she manages to attract their attention. They help the other person and carry her away to safety just as you are forced to retreat. Alice return back up the stairs, before losing her substance entirely again. At the top of the stair she finds her final piece of herself, the rest is already part of the network. She knows that she will never be able to leave. She can make out other viney shapes and by brushing the vines against one another she recognize them as other people in the same situation as you.
All she can do know is sharing memories with others and wait for the unavoidable.
