Raskogr grumbled under his breath, staring grumpily over his shoulder to where his mother was sitting just behind him. She had told him to sit and wait, after grooming him to within an inch of his life. The youngster had not been impressed by her fussing and had instantly mussed up his tuft of mane to spite her efforts. But as mothers were wont to, she caught him, nipped his ear in reprimand and then smoothed his fuzzy tuft back down before firmly placing him back on his spot.
So, the young cub sat, tail flicking back and forth in irritation, his only act of defiance as he was otherwise obediently silent. He still had no idea why he had been made to sit here, tormented more like. He wanted to go out and play! His brothers were outside brawling, and while Raskogr was not interested in those rougher games, he desperately wanted away from his mother. This was just embarrassing! Who knew what his family thought about it, they probably assumed he was getting told off for something.

Seqineq could not remember the last time anybody had spent this much time worrying about how well-groomed she was. Having two siblings, both boys, the young lioness was often a little dusty and mussed up, and usually nobody in the family seemed to mind as long as she didn't try tattling. For there to suddenly be this much interest in her appearance, something had to be up.
She grew more wary as a so-called "family walk" turned out to be a very long lecture on all the manners she had ever learned, and a good many that she hadn't. By the time her mother stopped, Seqineq's eyes had narrowed into squinting slits of suspicion. Something was definitely up.
"Stop squinting," her mother told her. "It makes you look like you're halfway through a sneeze."
Seqineq untwisted her features with an effort and managed to look mostly pleasant and mild as she and her mother started walking again, only to stop a short distance away from where another lioness and cub sat very still, apparently waiting for something.

Raskogr didn’t really pay attention as the adult lioness and a small female cub appeared further down the path. He was instead fascinated by an ant that had crept bravely across the ground to climb his toe. “Hu…” He mused, watching as it paused and seemed to wave at him. Suddenly it dropped its legs and its head and a moment later the young cub yelped and jumped backwards, shaking his paw violently. Above him, Soma sighed heavily, catching his backward-retreating body and shoved him none-too-gently back to his spot.
“Shh Ras… Best behaviour like I told you.” Her steady but firm tone warned him that he had best listen properly this time and he peered up at her, blue eyes wide and innocent. “Yes mom..” Turning to face forwards he finally caught sight of the two walking towards him. “Whos’at?” He asked, craning his head back to peer up at his mother.
“They are here to visit. Now hush.” His mother replied before standing and moving to greet the other lioness. Left still sat on his spot, Raskogr stared openly at the little female cub. He had seen her about the pride, usually covered in dust and dirt, playing with her brothers. He had no idea what she was called though. “Why are you here?” He asked, curiosity in his tone. “I’m Raskogr.” He added, puffing out his chest proudly.

Seqineq watched with a mixture of amusement and amazement as the cub who had been basically still up until a moment ago flung himself backward, only to be replaced by his mother. She glanced back at her own mother, hoping for a hint as to what this was about. Was this some sort of charitable playdate, where she would have to make nice with a simple cub whose father should have left him on the beach?
Her mother gave a small shake of her head which communicated absolutely no useful information, but made it clear that Seqineq's questions would not be answered here and now, and that she was to remain on her best behavior. What fun. Seqineq sighed softly and went back to examining the other cub while their mothers greeted one another.
"One day I will kill you, Raskogr," she informed him with a grave formality that would have made the greeting sound ominous had she not been a tiny girl child. It was unclear whether the next part, which she came up with on her own, made the threat more or less believable. "When the Stormlords ask you who killed you, tell them it was Seqineq Boyesdottir."

Ok, so he had completely forgotten the traditional greeting and this little girl had just shown him up. Frowning he eyed her up and down before swiftly deciding she posed absolutely no real threat to him. They were roughly the same age but she was a girl. No way would she be able to kill him.
"Uh-hu..." He responded flatly, staring at her for a moment before standing, already having forgotten his mother's warning about staying still. "Then you best tell them Raskogr Holmgeirson killed you. Wana play?" Padding forwards he sniffed her curiously, then tapped her on the shoulder with a wide grin.
"Tag!"

The look Seqineq gave him was pure skepticism. There was no way he could ever kill her. It was nice to know he wasn't touched in the head or flower-blooded. She wouldn't have known how to deal with either option, but since he was neither, all was wall, and she would have agreed to play, but then he tagged her and she decided abruptly that she might have been too hasty in deciding he wasn't simple.
"Tag?" she said scornfully. "No."
After another moment's thought she came up with what she was sure would be a much better idea. Or at least would involve less running, which she wasn't especially good at.
"How about we play Sacrifice? We have to set up a really good, um, place to make the sacrifice -" She couldn't remember the word altar. "And then one of us gets to make a sacrifice on it."
She also wasn't quite sure what a sacrifice was, exactly, but they were always being mentioned in the sagas, and they sounded very important, so she was sure making them would be a useful skill in her everyday life as an adult.

Raskogr saw her look and scowled in return. Was she dismissing him? The though rankled and the young cub immediately decided he would prove her wrong. He would be amazing and she would have to apologise. Just what he was going to be amazing at… he wasn’t sure yet. Just that he would be. Her refusal to play tag shocked the young male and he stood, staring at her. “You can’t play tag…?” he stated, ears flicking backwards as he looked her over again. Was there something wrong with her? Maybe she was ill, or… weak. Frowning he glanced over at where the two lionesses were still talking. Had his mother signed him up as some kind of… babysitter? Ugh! Her offer of another game made him look back at her dubiously. “Sacrifice?” He asked, tone caught between confused and dismayed. His brothers certainly didn’t play that game. It sounded kind of… girly. He stared at her for a long moment, tail flicking behind him. “Ok.. only if I get to sacrifice you.” He offered, thinking it a perfectly reasonable compromise. He was after all a great reaver, or would be soon, and they were the ones that made sacrifices, right?

Seqineq didn't bother to dignify his question about her inability to play Tag with a response. She was rapidly approaching the conclusion that he was simple. Not that being simple spared him from her best withering glare, meant to convey that of course she could play Tag. She simply refused to.
Seqineq wasn't entirely sure she liked the idea of being sacrificed, since that rarely worked out well for anyone in the sagas, but in order to be sacrificed you had to be really important, or else you weren't a sacrifice, at least in her limited understanding of the word.
"Okay..." she agreed, cautiously. "But if I'm the sacrifice that means I'm important and you have to do what I say when we're making the sacrifice place."

Frowning he finally nodded. "Fine..." He still wasn't sold on the whole idea, but he would at least get to sacrifice her... Slowly a grin curled across his muzzle as he gradually formed many grewsome and glorious ideas on how to do it. But first... "Ok.. so what do we do first, to build this sacrifice place?" He asked. After all, she was supposed to be in charge right? So she would know how to build the thing and the faster he could get to the fun part.

Seqineq had never seen an altar, but she had a vague idea of what one ought to look like and how it ought to be decorated. There were supposed to be festoons, whatever those were, and garlands, which were probably what the festoons were made into. And there should definitely be runes, which meant they would need something to draw the runes with.
"Okay," she said, accepting her role as leader with what she thought was a gracious smile. "First we have to find a flat rock, about as high as your shoulder and big enough for me to lie down on."
She was already looking around for said rock. Even though she was supposed to be in charge, which she guessed meant that she could've expected Raskogr to do all this, she kind of wanted to be the first to find the rock. He could pick the festoons and make garlands out of them.Tanakako No worries. How long do you want to spend on the sacrifice game? I think maybe a mom should intervene when they realize where this is going (perhaps when they get to the point where Raskogr is about to do his sacrificing?

”Ok…” He agreed, figuring that she would know so he didn’t need to put too much thought into it himself. Looking round he jogged over to a large pile of nearby rocks, jumping up onto the toppermost one before he started pushing them apart. One slid free and he let out a whoop. “Here!” He smirked as he sat down atop the one that he had found, it was about the right height and big enough that he could sit comfortably on it, so she should be able to lay across it too. It wasn’t totally flat, but it was flat enough to his reckoning.
“We will have to clear the other stones away though, its heavy.” No way could he see her moving it to a clearer area and while he wouldn’t admit it, he knew he wasn’t strong enough either. Jumping down he tugged a largish round stone until it started to roll away down the slight slope. “So.. what’s next?” He had already assumed the stone was good enough for their game, not really paying much attention to the stone itself as much to their goal of sacrificing her.Princess_Feylin That sounds good. I can have Soma come over. It probably wont take long for the game?

Seqineq was content to let Raskogr do the grunt work of shoving rocks around, but she still wished she had been the one to find the right rock. Oh well. She was still in charge, and that was probably for the best. Raskogr seemed to be better at taking direction than she was anyway.
"You'll have to find enough festoons to make a garland. Probably twenty should do it," she told him as she walked over to inspect the rock he'd found. It wasn't perfectly flat, but it would do.
Abruptly she remembered something her mother had told her once, about dealing with thralls. One should always commend them on a job well done, since it was important that thralls feel a sense of pride in their work, and it was easy enough to tell them they had done an acceptable job. If you could pick out a specific thing they'd done well, that would be even better. It made them more willing to try hard in the future.
"That was a good job finding the rock," she offered before he left to find festoons. "Moving the other stones off of it was a good idea."
While he looked for things to decorate their sacrifice rock, she circled it and tried to decide how best to apply the decorations, and how she would look the most tragic and important lying on it.

"Wait.. Twenty festoons?" He asked, incredulous. That would take Forever! Never mind that he had no idea what festoons even were... No way was he asking her though, she already was uptight enough! Scowling he huffed, but started looking round them. Sadly while there were plenty of rocks, there was little in the way of decorations of any kind.
"Wha..?" He turned back to her distractedly before his brain caught up with his thoughts and he frowned at her. Was she treating him like a ... a thrall? Staring at her suspiciously he sniffed. "Weren't nothing." He grumped, refusing to acknowledge the not unpleasant feeling the words gave him. Wrinkling his nose he turned away again. Festoons...
Leaving her staring at her soon-to-be sacrifice place he scavenged around, pushing over stones and peering under bushes. Someone had left a bunch of dried seaweed laying about so he scooped that up, then added some random branches and other bits of greenery he happened to find. Returning to his playmate he dropped the pile in front of the stone. "Here." Pushing some of the seaweed into smaller pile with a branch that had a few berries on it with a stray flower, he eyed the rock. "We just... lay it on top?"

Seqineq sighed at Raskogr's collection. Somehow it wasn't as vibrant and dramatic looking as she had hoped, but she supposed she could make do. She slanted a look at her companion that was intended to convey a deep spiritual weariness with his ignorance, but probably made her look like she was about to sneeze.
"Yes, of course. We lay it on top. But in runes." She barely stopped herself from adding a duh to the end. "Lucky for you, I happen to know a lot of runes."
This last part about knowing a lot of runes was completely untrue. In fact, Seqi knew the five runes that were in her name, and that was it. That didn't matter. She bet he didn't know any runes at all, and would have no idea if she just used the festoons to write her name a few times. Honestly, it made sense to do that if she was being sacrificed, so that everyone would know who the sacrifice was.
She began moving the seaweed into position to roughly write out SEKINEK and ignored Raskogr. Writing runes was hard enough as it was. Doing it in seaweed was impossible. There was no way the gods would be able to tell what it said, she realized quickly.
"You do it. I'll tell you if you're doing it right," she said. "But I have to prepare myself to be sacrificed. There's stuff sacrifices have to do before they become sacrifices, you know."Tanakako Omigosh I'm so sorry about the wait.

He wanted to ask her if something smelled bad, as from the look she was pulling, it had to be nasty. But that would be fun, and he couldn't possibly imagine her being up for investigating something that nasty... With a put-out sight he commented flatly. "Don't do that, you will get stuck that way if the wind changes." Quoting one of his mother's favourite admonishments.
"Runes?" He repeated, annoyed with himself for sounding like one of those copy-birds. He really had to stop repeating what she said, but if she spoke properly and made sense, he wouldn't have to keep asking would he? Grumbling under his breath he plopped his butt down and waited for her to do the runes thing. But barely had he begun to let his mind wander than she spoke up again, dragging him back to the runes thing. Sighing louder now he heaved himself up, very much like his father the day after a particularly long viking. "Must I do everything? He asked, somewhat rhetorically as he leaned up against the rock and eyed the mess she had made.
Flopping a paw at her in clear dismissal for her to go do her sacrificing thing, he started shoving the seaweed around. After a time he began to get interested in the patterns. It as dry, but it still smelled weird, kind of salty, and kind of dusty. He liked popping the large bubbles some of it had. Swiftly he ran out of bubbles to pop though and, deeming it 'rune-like' enough, he hopped back down. "Done. Are you ready yet? I wana get to the sacrificing part."
