Wandering/Hiking Re-integration into civilian life is not easy especially after serving four tours overseas. What use to be a normal life for him back when he was a teenager now it feels like a foreign culture. While he struggles with the aftereffects and trauma's caused by war, Isaac has taken to wandering as means of escape. Hiking has done wonders in offering him some semblance of peace from the crowded bustling streets of Destiny City. Rarely does he have much of a direction in mind, usually he picks a trail, brings some camping gear and can easily spend the next few hours to days just wondering around.
Self Defense/ combat strategy This particular hobby is more of an umbrella term for a lot of things he does which includes both physical and material ways of defending ones self. While in basic training, on base for PT's, or serving tours overseas, Isaac focused a lot of his energy on grappling, sparing, and marksmanship. Since returning state side he continues to hone in on these skills by going to smaller more specialized gyms with a fighting ring to do partner training or going to the range and shooting a few rounds or even participating in three point shooting competitions. One thing to note though is that although yes he does have various types of weapons in his home, he does not own anything he cannot use and he maintains them very well.
Camping: After having been adopted by the Harrisons', their energetic lifestyle introduced Isaac to an array of outdoor activities he otherwise would never have been exposed to. The one he enjoyed most, however, was camping. Every summer they would pack up their backpacks, grab their sleeping bags and other necessities and take him up to the mountains where they would go on a two hour hike to a campsite near a crystal clear lake. Shannon had been the one to teach him how to fish without a fishing pole to keep packing light; she was also the one to teach him how to gut and descale it before cooking it. His father, Matthew had taught him how to pitch a tent, build a fire and how to tie various knots for various situations. While learning what plants not to touch has been a bit of trial (ie. poison ivy) and error he does know which berries and mushrooms are edible.
Virtues:
Driven: Isaac did not become a Staff Sargent by luck or coincidence rather he worked for his position and continues to do so in order to achieve higher ranks. It was in fact his internal dislike of having to take orders from arrogant superiors that drove him to want to become their equal or higher to avoid being spoke down to because of his rank. Undaunted by failures he uses those moments as motivation to keep moving forward. He has high standards of his own performance and while he, to a degree, expects the same from those around him, Isaac will not impress these views on others unless it is to help better that individual.
Patient: Not to be mistaken as a push over by any means or someone who is easy to take advantage of. Isaac is able to suppress the anxiousness associated with being delayed and is willing to wait as long as necessary for someone to show up if they are running late or for something expectant to happen. There is a threshold to this however and he will not take off without at least giving the person a heads up. Do note it takes A LOT to make him lose his temper and you'll know when that's about to happen.
Respectful: In almost every aspect of life there is some way shape or form of an order or chain of command. Unless a person is self employed, there are the grunts, supervisors, managers, district managers, all the way up to the CEO. Schools are not exempt from this order as you work your way up from teachers to the principals to the board. Prior to his enlistment Isaac has had an acute sense of this order and had the self discipline to respect those in authority the military only further cemented this thought process. It is okay to disagree with a superior but under no circumstances is it alright to become belligerent with them or to throw a fit. "Yes sir," "no mam" '-insert rank and name-' are only a few minor ways in which he shows respect when addressing others.
Flaws:
Lacks Empathy If someone were to approach Isaac looking clearly distressed over a situation, one of two things typically happen. While he's not going to ignore the fact they seem upset he will listen to them if they wish to speak. However that is where his involvement more or less ends. Isaac is not going to sit there rubbing their back or holding their hand, nor is he going to try to try to relate to their current problems. On the other hand, if the individual does not wish to talk about what is bothering them then he will give the person some meaningless task to do or go along with what he was working on. He is of the mindset that worrying about something achieves nothing so either get it off your chest or do something to get your mind off it.
Distrusting This particular flaw is the reason why he seems to be so emotionally guarded with walls a mile high. Often suspicious of ulterior motives, Isaac tends to take a lot of information with a grain brick of salt. Part of this is due to his upbringing prior to being adopted by Shannon and Matthew Harrison when he was about 12 years old. His former foster parents were in it for the tax write offs, among other reasons, and not because they actually cared. In his mind there is always a 'but' following a statement or a bit of information intentionally missing. Honesty and loyalty will inevitably break through these walls but you will work for that trust.
Unforgiving: While often times people are deserving a second chance for their screw up moments, Isaac would disagree especially if a persons has proven themselves to be dishonest or untrustworthy. While it is nearly impossible to avoid certain people, you can bet he will remember your past transgressions and though he may understand your reasoning behind doing or saying something, it can take years for him to forgive and even longer to forget.
