Sergei’s deployment had been a long time coming and he was, in short, thrilled to be off a ship on land. Even more grateful it was homeland. While America was not the country of birth, his large family had moved here in his teenage years and he had finished his schooling at Azure. Then he joined the navy.
His stuff had been dropped off, and he had been reintroduced to the family as if he had been gone for more then half his lifetime. as the third oldest of the 10 siblings, he was the only one staying at home until he could find an apartment. His plan had been to stay with Nadia but she had filled that spot with a roommate.
Right now, he was on the hunt through DC for such a thing, and would take anything reasonably close to the dorms. Nadia had said, to get in touch with a friend of hers. Sol Olga Sayle? and then handed him an address to check out.
He didn’t think it would hurt, since Nadia had very….okay friends.

Since she didn’t have class today, Olga did what any reasonable student would.
She was aggressively writing a short smutty romance story, and by short, it meant less than 100 pages. It wasn’t a homework assignment. She was also the epitome of not looking to leave her apartment, since she was in her sleep shorts and tank top. Her two-toned hair was pulled back into a ponytail and some empty mugs of coffee littered the space around her desk and laptop. The furious clicking of the keys from her laptop could be heard softly from the door.

He stepped up to the door, and did what any reasonable man did. He knocked. And then he waited.
Quote:
The sound of a knock on the door was unmistakable--because it didn’t happen often.
Olga pushed herself away from her laptop, spinning in her chair a few times before she leapt to her feet and all but galloped towards the door, thinking it was Nadia. She was kind of the only physical friend she had in DC right now who would drop in without calling. She swung the door open with a grin. “Heeeeeeey Nads---” When she actually registered who was at her door though, who was distinctly NOT Nadia shaped, Olga made a strangled sound as she sucked in air and stood there frozen.
The one thing about rampant shipping and fantasizing about hot guys was that they were fictional. Not real. She’d never had to worry about what she’d have to do if they actually existed because there was no way for her fantasies to be shattered. Or be awkward. While she knew Nadia’s brother was indeed real, the years of distance and nothing more than photographs had placed the young man into the realm of nearly fictional to her.
Now here he was, and she had no idea how to act, besides like a goldfish out of water.

Sergei shuffled a little awkwardly, tucking his hands in pockets as he was sure he heard typing just stop, and then the door opened. Leave it to Nadia though, to have pretty girl friends. His sister had some sort of charm with both ladies and men that he would never have, nor never want.
His eyebrow rose a little as she failed to make words, so he took the iniative to talk instead.
“Afternoon. Is zis,” His hands came out of his pocket with a piece of paper, “Sol Olga Sayle resident?” He looked over her shoulder, “Uh, Nadia, My sister, she sent me over to here to meet you.” Even all his time in america, he still had a very thick accent, and broken words. It was a shame, but maybe this friend spoke russian and that’s why Nadia sent him to her. “Hello?”

Oh god. He even had the accent too. As if the hotness factor couldn’t go up anymore fffffff---
Damn it, Nadia. Damn you. Sending the real thing her way.
Olga made another unintelligible sound before clearing her throat. “Uh--Y-yeah! This is the Sol Olga Sayle residence---I’m Sol Olga Sayle---Olga. Just Olga though---yeah---” She then quickly thrust out her hand to him to shake, grasping to the social convention norms of new acquaintances...despite knowing about said acquaintance a few years through a sister and pictures. “It’s great to meet you--finally---in person! There was something to be said about tension and awkwardness. It was hard enough that he wasn’t on a ship anymore, and now integrated back into social society that was...more polite and required more thought. He didn’t mean for his face to fall into a scowl, it was just how it happened.
“Olga. Tis pleasure to meet you,” He took her hand and shook it gently. “Finally meet me? Does Nadia-” He mulled over the thought, “She talks a lot about me? Zat is...odd. How do you guys know each other?” And how was she beneficial to his apartment hunting?

Oh. He scowled. Hm....hopefully it was a tsundere thing. She hoped.
While she had some stuff to go on about Sergei from Nadia’s letters, she had also, unfortunately, filled the rest of her notion of him with rampant fantasy. So this encounter was awkward for her on a few levels, but also...Hm. These initial few moments were kind of making him seem…
Human!
“Aw, c-come on, man!” Olga chided, gaining some of her lost confidence back. “You’re in the navy, and I’m not a little girl! I can take a better shake than that!” She kept ahold of his hand, squeezing it a bit harder and giving it a jokingly firm shake. “Oh---yeah---Nadia talked about you--and your other brothers--” Kinda. Not as much as Sergei. “In the letters her and I wrote! We’re pen pals. We were for three years until I met her here in D.C.!”

He brow rose so high, it wasn’t hard to miss the change in behavior and she was exactly the type of woman to avoid. So Nadia had sent him to the more extroverted types. All he wanted, was apartment hunting.
He took her hand again and really squeezed it, the scowl appearing again. “So Nadia, she tells you all about me, but does not tell me about you? I feel at lost.” He slurred the words, falling back on heavy L’s. “Pen pals. Nadia is always so weird. She never mentions her hobbies.” It was hard to do with 9 other siblings though so…”I need to find apartment…” His patience had reached the end of his spoons. “You can help, or should I go now….”

“Uh--” That was a loaded statement, really. She knew a lot more about Sergei than she probably should...and he had no idea none the less! How scandalous. Her brain was also trying to process what was happening. So...Nadia sent Sergei to /her/ to help with apartment hunting?
…
That Nadia was such a troll. Clearly Nadia would be better at finding apartments since she lived here longer than her--but Nadia sent her brother to her just to be a troll. Since she knew about that obsess--Thing. That thing she had for him since he was like a fictional hottie to covet. Except now he was a real life hottie in the flesh. Gah.
“I can help!” Olga replied a little too loudly and throwing up a hand into the air like a kid being called on in class. Really, she’d be stupid to pass up this opportunity to be in the presence of a real hottie (even if she had a sinking feeling she was going to make a complete fool of herself the entire time. How does one interact with hotness!?) “Uh--come in a moment! I gotta get changed!” She then back pedaled quickly into her small studio apartment. Olga rapidly pulled some clothes out of the dresser and then ran into the bathroom, slamming the door shut.
Hopefully Sergei wouldn’t be put off by all the Outlander posters, and the life size cardboard cutout of Jamie Fraser in the corner of her apartment with his smouldering paper gaze.

Again, growing up with boys, and in the navy, accustomed to a larger male population, Sergei wasn’t sure about how he felt just entering a woman’s (Strange woman) apartment. She didn’t leave him much option, so he politely mumbled a thank you and stepped in. Not so far that his shoes tracked on her carpet, but far enough to be bombarded by the images of a open tunic, grizzly attractive man.
What were word to call them...He didn’t know. They looked like male model that all the girls fawned over, except his clothes were all wrong and the title of whatever he came from was plastered all over the posters.
How did Olga not feel weird with such smoldering eyes on her all the time. Sergei felt like he needed to button up his jacket to the neck or something. It was, the largest case of no, since he had been deployed home.
“Nadia, you have odd taste in friends.” He sighed, and after he used Olga for apartment hunting, then he’d be done. There would be no more.

After some time, Olga emerged from the bathroom, clad in her usual flannel, jeans, and Outlander t-shirt. This one today read ‘Clan Fraser’. She made a bee-line past Sergei, picking up her boots from near the door and slipping them on before zipping them up in the back. “Ready!” She announced with a grin, and swung her door open, fishing her keys off the near by hook on the wall. Olga reached out and grabbed his wrist, and then pulled him out the door after her. She shut it, locked it, and then was bounding down the fire escape that lead to her apartment.
“You’re in the best of hands!” She tried to assure. “Having done this myself recently, I know just where to look for listings and such!”

At least, when she came out, she was not dressed as a weirdo. It was, the small okay in the nopes he had since he had knocked on her front door. He did not appreciate the ‘outlanders’ stare at him. It was, and would always be, too much.
Too much smolder.
He didn’t have much comments to make as she was like a storm and he was just caught in the tail winds. “I would rather not be in hands.” He gently pried himself away from Olga, once he could. “Do you always have, zis energy?” He narrowed his eyes, “It is, so much.”

It was a sad truth that Olga never spent much time in real male company. She’d been writing and shipping since high school, and those activities in themselves made her something of an awkward duck. Luckily though, thankfully, she had something to focus on, instead of being completely awkward about what to do with Sergei. “Eh?” Olga blinked, looking back at him over her shoulder as she let her fingers be pried off his arm.
“...Yeeeeeees?” She answered, as if she wasn’t sure how to reply. “Don’t you? I mean--you’re in the Navy! That’s pretty demanding, yeah?” Actually she thought that was really, really, really cool. To do stuff and travel...Sergei seemed so worldly and she….well. She traveled to the darkest corners of the internet.
And shipping hell.
“So--what are you looking for exactly, huh? A studio? One bed room? Two?”

“How do you know of Navy…” His frown deepened, “Nadia tell you that as well? What else Nadia tell you? Did she tell you secrets?” He was going to grill his sister so hard. He wasn’t comfortable being written about to this strange woman. God forbid if she like, sent pictures of him too.
Wait, did she send pictures too? He was too scared to ask. What if they were in her room, next to the smoldering man. He was no smoldering man.
“I would like a two bedroom.” He let his shoulders fall back, “I have...collection that needs room. Work out room. I think I want dog too but it is up to apartment we find. Today is only time for me to find though, so we have to settle on one.” Not to put the pressure on you Olga. “Why did you come to DC?”

“Yeah! Nads told me--She also told me a lo-bit. A bit. Nooooooo~ No secrets!” Olga replied, suddenly looking anywhere but him. Yes. A few. Also, she also had photos. Quite a handful of them. Cough. The thought of all those photos was making her smile, so she instead focused on how it was a beautiful day outside.
She couldn’t put her finger on why, but hearing that he wanted a two bedroom made her feel a bit...crestfallen. Up until he explained, anyways. “Oh? What kind of collection? OH!” She grinned back at him and clapped. “Puppies! Have you met Nadia’s room mate’s puppy yet? He’s a real cutie! Like a cotton ball on legs!” It wasn’t too long before Olga lead him to a rental company office where, luckily, they had a booklet containing properties that were for rent. Olga slipped a booklet out of the box and sidled up to Sergei’s side, where she immediately started to flip to the two-bedroom apartment section.
“Writing!” Olga belatedly answered his question. “I want to get a degree in Writing…” She was distracted by the listings, and held the booklet up to him for inspection. “Well? What do you think about these so far? We can ask for the keys to inspect any place you want!”

“I am zure, zhe has wrote much.” He frowned, “Zhe has always been too open with others, about others. Tis, not way of doing things. Do not be sharing family secrets with stranger.” He stared at her. “Again, is odd that you know of me, but-” he mumbled deeply, “Not knowing of you.”
He was feeling a bit out of the loop and that made him frown deeper, he didn’t like feeling….so lost. But what was he to do? He had just gotten back? And why was it only when he was talking to Olga he felt weird.
“Nyet, I have not seen Nadia yet, or her roommate.” Nadia had a roommate with a dog? It seemed her sister could not escape the social standards she had. Which was be surrounded by others.
“Vriting.” He stared at her, “Is that man in your home, is he part of your vritings? Are you author? He was unnerving.” Sergei pointed to one that seemed nearby, “Ve start here.”

What’s so secretive about being in the navy, anyways--” She laughed again. “Well, hey, fire away and ask! I can tell you all about me!” She grinned at him, and then held up a finger. “Hold that thought-- Bee are bee.” She ducked into the rental office, and after a few moments she came back out with a few sets of keys. “Okay--so! I got the set for the one you pointed out---and then a few others after that. Good to look, yeah?”
With keys in hand, Olga consulted the map in the booklet, and started to head in the direction of the closet apartment. “Woah---wait, what? You haven’t even seen Nadia yet!?” Well, didn’t she feel super special awesome! Wow. She also wondered what Nyet meant, but in light of the other parts of conversation, quickly forgot to ask. “Oh my gosh--I WISH!” Olga sighed heavily, smooshing the booklet against her chest as she sighed once more, dreamily this time. “But no, he’s created by the author Diana Gabaldon! He’s from the Outlander series!” She grinned over at him. “Adventure, fantasy, and romance! Then the book series got turned into a T.V. series and now that it’s super popular all this merch came out! Gah--I love it so much! Before it became a T.V. series though---you can’t beat the books.”
And she could go on and on and on about it--

“Nyet, I am not interested.” He stared at her, realizing his mistake. If he became...friendly with her, then he’d be stuck with her. He was not interested in being stuck with her. At all. Not even a little bit.
“How do, just take keys? Did you steal them?” He looked into the office but none of the employeees seemed bothered by it.
“Ov course not, I am waiting to see her, when family gathers. Big dinner and such, Mama will make lots of food. Nadia will be there, she not so stupid not to go. Also she loves Mama food.” He took the first set of keys from her and opened the apartment’s locked gate area. The one he had looked at was a base floor and it was lucky it was empty.
“Why do you wish?” He stared at her, “He is character in book, is he no?” He could never understand women’s fantasy with fake men. Nadia would point to the ones on TV but his sister was not into the books. But his sister also never really cared for ‘love’, she was more of the nomadic type. It must’ve been the romanian gyspy in her blood. “Stop, I do not care to listen more about this Voutlander.”

“Well--” Once she actually processed what Sergei said, it was like a jolt. Olga froze, blinking once before her eyes went a bit wide. Oh.
Nadia why did you do this to her.
Troll.
But, thankfully, despite ‘not being interested’ he was still conversing with her! Olga snapped out of it, and she stared at him for a moment before she smirked. “Yeah. I stole them.” She deadpanned at him as she spun the other set casually on her finger. She then laughed. “No, silly! I borrowed them! They took my driver’s license hostage in exchange!”
Olga listened to this little tidbit with interest, if not with a bit of a wistful look. She knew how big Nadia’s family was...and being an only child well...she wondered sometimes! It must be nice to get everyone together...but she also missed Mama home cooking too. Terribly. “That sounds wonderful! I bet she wouldn’t miss it for the world.” She waltzed in after Sergei, looking over the apartment with a whistle. Woah. Way more than she could manage, though she was really happy with her small studio apartment. It was cozy! “What do you think?” She asked about the apartment.
“Because he’s such an amazing character!” Olga replied. “He’s got so many great traits but he also has negative ones that really flesh out his character--” Then Sergei shut her down, again. She briefly grimaced, before it swung into a grin.
“Okay.” Her grin widened. “Then tell me all about your time in the Navy!” She clasped her hands behind her back and rocked a bit. Her smile said ‘it’s that or I’ll keep talking about Outlander’.

Also he was not inviting her over. Even if his mother would love anyone that came over. If he suddenly brought home a woman, they would never let him live it down. It would be like doomsday. He didn’t need that coming home from navy.
“Navy is hard.” He stared at her, then at the apartment. It was good space, it was big enough for a dog. The second room was good too. he didn’t need to see anymore. “I would like this one.” He tucked his hands in his pockets. “It is good space. There is lock on gate. No intruders could get in.” He stared at her while he said that.
“Navy is hard. Long. We travel too long.” He shrugged, “But I was deployed, so now I will join students in university. Police. Ah. Criminology classes.”

“Uh huh…” She stared at him, waiting for some sort of elaboration. She wanted to hear why the Navy was hard (and she could supply some reasons, like ABS she could do her laundry off of)--and she did have an idea, with her dad being retired military and all, but he hadn’t been in the Navy. “Wha---” Olga blinked rapidly at him. “...Really!? You don’t want to look at any others?” She was more surprised than anything. When her mom came out with her to get her little shoebox, they had looked at SO MANY before finally settling on the one she lived in.
She then stared blankly back at him when he looked at her and said words like ‘lock’, ‘gate’, and ‘intruder’. Was he implying something? HMM…
Olga gasped, loudly, and then clapped her hands excitedly. “You’re going to attend Destiny City University too!? I’ll see you there, then! I’m going there as well!” She was grinning from ear to ear, incredibly delighted that there was going to be a familiar (and very handsome if not scowly which somehow made it more attractive) face.

I’m going there as well!” She was grinning from ear to ear, incredibly delighted that there was going to be a familiar (and very handsome if not scowly which somehow made it more attractive) face.

Since the decision was made, Sergei herded the noisy one out before she marked her spot in the empty apartment. Carved her initials or demon sign in the wall. She was nice enough, but Sergei just wanted a quiet home and to settle in. Once he did though, perhaps she could come over. In like 6 months.
“I am.” He rose a brow and then nodded, “Perhaps ve will.” He cleared his throat, “I do not know if I have vriting classes, but we will see.” Meaning really, he wouldn’t see her at all. Cause how often did Writing meet with Criminology? Like almost never right? He didn’t know. He placed his larger hand on the small of her back to help her out of the apartment and then locking up behind him. “I make my mind up fast.” He mentioned later about her comment. “Is good size for dog and office. I do not need much more than that.”

Olga needed the herding, because she wasn’t moving out unless guided. She was perhaps a bit skeptical that Sergei could make a pretty big decision like that based on one look---but it was his money and his apartment! She moved when ushered, but when she felt his hand on the small of her back her eyes went a bit wide and her cheeks went red.
She was being purposefully touched. By a hot guy. It was like breathing the same air as outrageously famous celebrity.
She scooted, standing outside the doorway with her back to him as he locked up the apartment, trying to fight down her blush and play it cool. She hung out and got touched by hot guys all the time. Yeah. All the freaking time. “...Um--” Her voice came out as a bit of a squeak, so she quickly cleared her throat and tried again. “He-hey! Do you need help moving your stuff in? After you sign all the paperwork of course---” She stared up at the sky for a moment, patting one of her cheeks lightly as she waited for an answer with her back to him still.

Her blushing was so obvious. Nadia, what stories had you filled Olga’s little mind with.
“Most likely.” He stared at her, “I will ask my brothers.” He stared longer. “Zurely, Nadia spoke of all 9 of us.” He started to move back to the office, making his way to the door and opening it for Olga. She could sit here or whatever while he signed papers.
“I vould like the apartment for these keys.” He jingled it up, “I can pay now if available….”

She was about to sound like such a creeper, it couldn’t be helped---Well, she might as well just be real with herself. She was a creeper.
Also, somewhere, it didn’t go unnoticed that he totally side stepped her offer to help.
“Yeah, she did---” She also had at least one picture of all of them too, so she knew what they looked like. “But not all of them can help!” Olga informed him cheerfully. “Vladimir and Luka are too young, yeah---and the oldest, Misha and Dimitri are working--so I guess that leaves your middle brothers--” Here she spread out her arms as she followed him into the office. “And me! I’m here! Right now! Free! To help you move in!”
The realtor in the office was only all too happy to get Sergei set up...after all the necessities of course. Background check, copying of necessary documents, blah blah blah. During this process Olga was good, and quiet, because she had her nose in her phone, and was blowing up Nadia’s phone with texts that spammed of ‘troll’ and ‘will get you back’ and ‘how dare u’.

Sergei was in most part, ignoring the woman who was still tagging along. Wasn’t she excused now that her job was done? Didn’t she have her outlander to get back too? he was almost done signing papers and he sighed loudly at the woman.
“Olga.” He spoke her name calmly, turning in his chair. “Three brothers, more then enough to move small belongings. You have helped enough. It is lucky I met you today, You found good apartment for me to move into.” He rose a brow. “I am thankful that Nadia knows you. You do not need to concern self with me any longer.” He turned in his chair again and finished the whole process.
By the end of it, he was handed a set of keys for himself, a mail box number and a garage in the parking lot area of the apartments.

“Yes--” Olga immediately sat up straight, alert and attentive, and let it be known, the fastest she ever looked up from her phone for someone. She ended up fumbling said phone, but listened to it thump to the ground as she beamed. Oh. Hrm. “Concern myself with you any longer...today?” She offered, since to mean anything else would just be silly.
Because he did have a point about three brothers...and if he didn’t have any furniture yet...hrm. Olga sat in silence for a moment, thinking, and picked up her phone from the floor, tucking it back into her flannel pocket. “Oh! Hey! When you get all your stuff moved in...how about a house warming? What do you think? This weekend? To welcome you!”

He got up now, tucking the keys in his pocket.
“No, Olga.” He rose a brow. “I am going to go home now. Do you need me to valk you home?”

“Oh--” Olga stood as well. “Well, that’s okay! I’m guess you’re not a party person---I wouldn’t know who to invite anyways--” She scratched at her cheek idly, brows furrowed briefly “--Aside from your sister, she’s all I know here right now---well, aside from you---so I’ll bring you something this weekend, okay?” She grinned at him.
“Well, I don’t need you to walk me home, but I’d like that, yeah!”

“Vine.” He pocketed the keys and then walked out of the office. “I am tired, Ve take you home.” and then he’d go and just rest. Olga was too much.
On a side note, Nadia was giggling and texting her friend with great earnest. She knew both Sergei would hate it AND that Olga would love it. Her brother was the most grumpiest of the nine, so good luck Olga...Good luck.

Olga just beamed even brighter at him. “You had a long day! Especially coming back from the Navy and then having to apartment hunt!” She patted his arm reassuringly, because it wasn’t her who wore him out. Nooo.
But this was one small step for Olga and one large leap for….
....
Something.
