Rajni pulled her hat down over her slick, shiny hair. It was cold today, but then, it was cold every day. In fact, Rajni wasn't even sure why she wrote down the weather in her journal anymore. It was always the following: ******** cold, ******** mist, sometimes rainy, who gives a s**t. Too cold. Canada was cold.

She lumbered out into the surrounding area, pulling her hoodie closer. Last time she'd found a shitton of beefaroni- this time would turn out just as well right?

It was funny, before the apocalypse she never really cared about what was around her. Now she had to take in every detail, lest she miss a tiny glinting can in someone's lunch break room or an abandoned water bottle sitting on an overgrown soccer field. Maybe she was just getting philosophical.

It was oddly specific then, that she found an abadoned water bottle and a ragged jersey sitting next to one of the old tennis courts. It was right in the open, only tucked near the edge of the tennis court. It was a wonder it hadn't been looted already honestly, it was just there.

Rajni couldn't help but get a little sentimental. She couldn't help it; it was sad picturing the people who had once played tennis here. She couldn't remember the last time she and the others had done something as athletic as playing tennis for fun. Everyone stayed in shape either by the stairs or by running from undying. Playing a tennis game would cause too much attention, too much noise for the undead to attract themselves to.

Then that got her thinking about the poor people who were caught unawares in the middle of the apocalypse. All the people just minding their own business, and then suddenly carnage, blood, gore everywhere. Rajni remembered her own experience vividly; on her way home from the grocery store, hiding behind a dumpster like a coward. She'd been planning on making Italian Wedding soup that night for her and her boyfriend. It seemed so long ago, so naive. She couldn't remember some details; how long she waited, how many died in front of her.

But she rememebred the Italian wedding soup vividly. She rememebred that she'd gone to the store for two things: toothpaste and a bottle of orange juice. Such small, small details that were explosive in her mind.

Sometimes she couldn't remember the exact way his beard curled around his smile. She pulled out her phone when that happened. It always made her cry, but she didn't want to forget. Nothing was worse than forgetting the time before. She thought if she forgot how it once was, it might never be that way again.

In this way, Rajni was actually much more naive than she let on.
