Five yards of walking with a tiny girl over his shoulder was cake for Robert. It was the silence, the fog, and the lack of company that really started to wear at him. He reached his destination quick enough, but - he'd be glad when it was all over, and he could hear a friendly voice again.

Walking through the portal left him disappointed as hell; this wasn't base at all. Still, a highway was better than some creepy mall or hospital, wasn't it?
No, the giant horse monster that reared up beside him said. No, it wasn't.
It is not natural for you to accept us?
Oh, and now it was whispering cryptic messages at him, which was his cue to run like hell. He tried, but when the visions began to flood him, Jezebel summoned in his hand and he used her as a crutch, desperately trying to move despite how heavy the horrifying images flashing through his mind made him feel. He was only glad that he couldn't focus on any single one; he let them go before he could think too hard about what he was seeing, because he knew he wouldn't be able to handle it.
There was only one choice to make. Get as far away from the thing as possible, until his head cleared. "Thanks for being so little." He muttered to the unconscious human on his shoulder, as he stumbled forward and began to run.
In the end, it didn't matter how strong Robert was, or how little the woman on his shoulder weighed - running away on foot from a monster of that size was never going to end in success.
The horse careened into him, knocking the girl off of his shoulder as he was thrown several feet away. It took him a few long seconds to shake the ringing out of his ears, before he could collect her again and stumble back into a run.
If only he knew how to start a car without a key.. he stared at the line of abandoned cars with longing.
He took another hit to the back, stumbling to his knees and knocking Sunday's head on the ground until he could shift her back up to where she'd be safer if he fell again.
And he knew he'd fall again.

"I can see it from here." He huffed out with shortened breath as he tried to run towards what looked like the portal. He forced himself to use that last surge of energy, but the monster snapped him up into the air and threw him within a few feet of the portal itself. He fell to the ground, face down, and heard the thump of his charge falling close beside. He stayed on the ground this time, catching his breath, and finally flipped himself over to see the horse just behind, it's tendrils staying carefully in the passage that he'd barely managed to escape from.
"See." He huffed out, before his head dropped back down on the cement from exhaustion. "Piece of cake."
Robert could finally breathe again. He opened his eyes and looked up to the face of a very curious, frightened young woman, who was now awake - and severely bruised from all the flinging he'd done. She'd apparently figured that out - because she was lifting up a rock to try and crush his skull with -
"WHOA THERE MISSY," He roared, plucking the rock out of her hands and picking her up by the waist as she kicked and scratched and squirmed in his arm. He leaned his face away, but she was adamant about trying to get him to let go.
The more he tried to talk her down, the more she tried to rip his throat out. Finally, he decided she wasn't worth the trouble and dropped her -
From several feet up.
Sunday returned to sweet, unconscious bliss; and Robert returned to find the portal now gone, and his prospects for finding Mimsy - and getting away from the tiny hellion he carried off with him - turning abysmal.
