It was fog as far as he could see, endless and rolling and if it hadn't been for Harrison nearby, the certain ******** knowledge of Harrison nearby he might have been properly unnerved by it all. It reminded him of the fog at the end of the world, the time when he'd lost everything about who he was and had to earn it back piece by meagre piece. Reap. That was what he'd thought his name was, and the memory of it all was horrible. Memory was all they had, it was what made them who they were, without it they'd start over like rebooted computers and with a new series of experiences and encounters, they would be someone else. It gave him the ******** heebies.

He hated this fog.

"We haven't seen a damn creature this whole time." he said grimly as they went. "Normally they are all over the place, ******** wall to wall the minute they smell something interesting. The quiet is creepy."

He was on edge at every sound, every faint clank or creak in the gloom, ready to summon Tracey at a moment's notice if the need arose.

He almost did when he came across two still and sleeping figures, sighing grimly as he reached for the closest one. She was female, a curvy blonde slut who as far as he was concerned, didn't deserve to be saved. Nor in fact, did her boytoy, whoever he ******** was. But orders were orders, and Harrison was there, if he did anything to the civilians they were told to retrieve it would be on Harrison's head as a moon.

So he simply picked her up, tall but slight and carried her at arm's length with a look of distinct disgust.

Even as slightly built as the blonde woman was, Rep found himself quickly out of breath carrying her, sapped gradually by the fog. It was a long way, and took more effort than he was used to a simple weight costing him. <******** fat b***h, ******** fat, heavy..." and he muttered all the way, resenting every moment he had to carry her, remembering much too vividly another blonde woman a long time ago and trying not to slide off into a stress flashback.

It felt impossibly far and by the time he reached the portal, he was actually winded.

He dropped the woman into it with quite considerable callousness and stepped in himself afterwards.

Of course the other side wasn't safety. When had a portal ever in his whole ******** life done what he wanted it to do? That was just the ******** way of things, running constantly from one shitty situation to another and hoping that each portal you took would be the one that actually got you to where you needed to be.

Instead he was on a road with a lot of grim ******** flashback feelings. The skyscraper next to him twisted in vines and undeniably Not Good.

He turned and felt the bottom drop out of his gut. Great. ******** GREAT. It was that ******** monster, or some echo of the ******** monster. It reached out and he knew he had to get away. "We can't ******** fight it, no ******** WAY." he yelled desperately (and redundantly) to Harrison as he ran in the direction of anything, anywhere to get away from the thing. He remembered the thing coming up against himself, Mark and Cael and not being overly bothered by their assault and had a strong feeling that now so much later it would be even stronger than it had been then.

The voices that flashed in his thoughts were familiar, dreadfully, the agony of knowing too ******** much, way too ******** much, he hated knowledge, he hated not being able to keep people out or away, his every day was avoiding the intrusion of other people into his life or his feelings and the sheer terrible force of the thing shook him to the core.

He ran and ran and the woman was so ******** heavy with the lingering fog still sapping at his reserves.

Tracey apologized and he told him it wasn't his fault.

"We need to... need..to...find... need a CAR." he snarled.

It was only while he ran down the highway that Rep realised the he'd seen this ******** place before, that he recognised the road markings, the crash barriers, everything. He'd relived it in nightmares for quite some time and realised this was the same ******** highway, the same ******** place. He was here again and this time he might not ******** get out of it.

Harrison was in tow, he knew, he checked every few moments to make sure they were keeping pace with one another, hardly paying any attention at all to his stricken victim with other priorities to maintain.

Cars. Cars had saved him last time. They would save them again. They just needed to... they..

He scanned the abandoned vehicles along the road, many of them left with their doors open and keys still in the ignition and a flash of blue caught his eye.

"A ******** FERRARI?" he said to no one. "I'm having you mate." The woman was tossed in the side seat and he threw himself into the driving seat, lingering only long enough to make sure Harrison got his own car before flooring the accelerator and striping the tarmac as the car kicked into gear, sending him hurtling forward at breakneck speed. The revving of the rich and purring engine was a hundred miles from that shitty car he'd drive last time. This cat prowled.

Ten kilometers the headset told him. He'd lived that before and he'd ******** made it before too. He'd do it again, he'd do it a ******** hundred times if he needed to to survive.

If there was something Rep could do, it was apparently drive. It wasn't the usual kind of driving, with things such as speed limits, signs and caring about other people on the road, it was flat out vicious and raw speed with survival at the wheel. He enjoyed it, he always enjoyed it, the taste of danger almost palpable as he swerved to avoid cars abandoned in his way, and the car responded like an extension of Tracey and him, obeying their every whim.

For a moment he was his blue self, tearing through Vegas like he owned it - where he DID own it. He wasn't running, he wasn't fleeing, he was ******** leading the way, he was just MOVING.

They made it to the portal and reluctantly, so ******** reluctantly he left his beautiful beautiful car behind.

"I'll come back for you one day baby." he told it, carrying his bashed and dented woman to the portal.

Of course right about then the ungrateful cow tried to attack him and he might well have tried to kill her in the residual adrenaline from the car chase if he hadn't noticed the flash of the portal vanishing and immediately lost his temper at that instead.

"NOW WE ARE ******** STUCK." he snarled and whiled on his heels to address Harrison as the woman once again blacked out. "Because of this b***h." he shook her but to no avail.
