BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF MY CHARACTER "Shard" is a very physically fit 5' 10" woman who is only three months out of the Army due to a medical discharge. She has blue eyes and dark-ish blonde hair that seems messy and matted no matter how she tries to style it. She tends to dress in baggy pants (with lots of pockets) and light jackets over plain shirts... and this was *before* joining the military! She was given a medical discharge when an accident dealing with a live grenade cost her her left pinkie finger and most of the feeling in that hand.

OOC: SCENARIO Prompt 9 Thorns

Scenario requirements: You reach a long barricade of thorns on the other side of the wall. They seem to be moving, pulsating with a life of their own and gift out a strange light. Flowers begin to bloom on the wall. When you press your hand against one, you are immediately assaulted with a strange vision (roll 1d6 to see what it is).
1. You see a skyscraper. At the very top there is a greenhouse. You feel yourself hovering above the greenhouse before diving right into it. There is a beautiful garden inside it, almost like a biodome. In the center of the biodome is what looks like some sort of chalice
2. You see hundreds of dead bodies, and a strange feeling washes over you. Apathy. You stand over the bodies and continue searching for at least one survivor. You hear yourself speak. "Are humans really so fragile?"
3. You fight against humans, but this time they are armed. Their weapons hurt. You are frustrated. They are eligible, but none of them will truly accept your wisdom. You kill many without ever feeling accepted. The feeling continues until the vision is over.
4. You fight against creatures of shadows, what you would consider your own breathren. They come in all shapes and sizes, large beasts and dragons, demons and even the undead. They refuse your knowledge. They are not compatible. They beg, negotiate and even fight against you to stop. You assimilate them for their treachery and refusal to serve.
5. You sleep in a long chamber of vines. Inside it are rows and rows of crystals. Each one is important to you. You tap against one, and it resonates, and you feel a strange sense of satisfaction. This is the power you have collected from those living and dead.
6. [ There is no actual image in this vision. Instead, you are assaulted with hundreds, thousands of conflicting thoughts, emotions, and ideals, all of them not your character's own. Your actual character's nose begins to bleed, and they fall to the ground, convulsing. They are unable to roll any other visions from the above if they reach this prompt and eventually pass out ].
Otherwise, you may continue rolling until you have fulfilled the 250 word requirement for it!
When the event is over, add +10 infection to your character's infection meter
Characters involved: Charlotte Dee "Shard" Williams
Extra effect: Any player in your party [ carrying a flashlight ] will be able to shine it in dark places. This does an additional +1 damage every time they hit any sort of mob (including boss mobs!) when they flash it at them.
This effect ends once the next [ effect in this thread ] is posted up!
This effect is stacked with the above effect.
If you one person rolls a mob in a PRP/SOLO/ORP thread, nobody else in the thread has to roll for mobs! This post's effect is applicable to ALL characters, flashlight or none!

Shard continued to the end of the pathway which ended at a tall fence and on the other side was a veritable wall of some kind of thick hedge. As she got nearer, the light perversely seemed to get better and she was able to see the long, thick, thorns adorning the plants.

Much like the original Sleeping Beauty, Shard was mesmerized and stepped closer and, before she realized what she was doing, she reached out towards the hedge...

…and underneath her hand, a flower bloomed. In instants it had unfolded to the size of a sunflower blossom. It glimmered and glistened and practically dripped malice instead of seeds, but Shard's hand touched it anyway...

...and she was dragged away from all the chaos...

...her mind torn from her body...

...her innermost being exposed to the core of the void...

...all the bits that were her 'self' left wimpering and crying, huddled in her mind like children chained to the wall...

… and she stood over the ashes of civilization... of streets paved with corpses and gutters of blood and gore and she thought:

… “Are humans really so fragile? Have we already surrendered to this chaos? Has the virus won?”

Shard looked at herself and realized she didn't look any different, but a great change had taken place. She now no longer feared. She no longer hungered. She no longer felt any desires … she was at peace … no... not at peace... Peace means that you are pleased at what has gone to bring you to your place.

She searched her feelings and found... apathy?

Shard wasn't even sure that was the right emotion. She began poking at all the corpses among the ashes of dreams and bloodstained streets. “Surely” she thought, “there must be one survivor. A Newt among the fallen -- hiding in a basement or an air vent somewhere. Perhaps watching me right now and wondering if it's a good idea to let me know they've survived.”

Shard looked down at herself again and saw she had succumbed -- now she wore the shredded flesh and bone of an infected. “Perhaps now would not be the best time for them to reveal themselves to ME!” she shouted to the world. “If humanity is so weak to fall to the virus, then maybe they deserve this fate. Shamble on, humanity! Walk unknowingly into the future tripping over your 'technology' while the smallest organism in the world retakes it!”

Shard shuddered, shook, and stepped back...

… and she observed the flower, now dying, shrinking, and turning into dripping slime right at her feet.

“Humans may be fragile...” she spoke to the hedge, “but Humanity is strong. We've beat worse plagues in the past and we'll find a way to beat you.”

Shard turned and went back down the path. She guessed the right-hand path lead back to the hospital and, at least, the light was better in that direction.
