Athletic Egg - this moderately sized egg sits towards the front of the clutch, not because it demands attention but because it is eager to meet everyone. And meet everyone equally, to boot - every person it encounter is treated with the same thoughtful, if energetic, response.

Seething Egg - this egg, average in size and located off to the right, is a seething mass of emotions, though a certain dauntlessness is foremost of all. Whatever dragon is in this egg is not to be tamed, its sharp-witted reactions sometimes surprising the candidates that touch it.

The Rumbling Egg - This medium to small sized egg sits towards the back of the clutch. It gives candidates who touch it the sensation of... weight? Pressure? It feels as though something huge is lying dormant, watching and waiting for the moment it can emerge. Timid candidates who linger more than a few moments will feel as though their hands are beginning to burn!

The Clawed Egg - This medium sized egg sits off to the side of the main group of its siblings, leaning up against the larger Twining Egg. This is one spiky egg! When a candidate touches it their mind will be flooded with a surge of hot angry adrenaline a feeling of 'oh yea? Come get it then!' This seems to be directed at the Twining Egg rather than the candidates themselves though. When it notices that candidates are visiting it, it greets those with good hearts - those who look out for the greater good - with a surge of approval.

The Twinging Egg - Though this is the largest egg in the clutch experienced candidates would probably only rate it 'medium large' overall. It sits slightly to the side of the main group of eggs leaning against its sibling the Clawed Egg. When a candidate touches the shell they will instantly be struck by a feeling of cool, haughty superiority... though not directed at them? Indeed the egg spares very little attention for candidates, though if it bothers to look it approves of ambition and intelligence. Mostly however it seems intent on staring down its sibling.

It was dawn when the eggs began to wriggle with imminent life, the thrum picked up by the earliest risers, an excited alarm clock call to those who slept later. The eggs were beginning hatch and the sun had barely begun to peak over the horizon on a day many remarked was a day of equal light and dark.

The Candidates - most of them anyway - were roused by the sound of thrumming and by the calls of their Candidatemasters. A cowbell was being rung as the Candidatemaster walked the aisles, demanding the youths dress and run for the Sands if they intended to impress at all.

Twenty two healthy eggs were ready to hatch, their oddly similar colourations a point of pride for the gold - now becoming known for her unusual clutches. As the Candidates arrived, the stands began to fill with Weyrfolk, Riders, and Visitors alike, a Hatching was indeed a spectacle for Trine. Guards were also posted around the perimeter of the Sands, the vestiges of hard lessons learned - no ne'er-do-wells would interrupt the proceedings or injure the candidates, they were in enough danger as it was!

OOC Notes

All characters are welcome, and encouraged, to participate! Remember that each post you make counts towards the activity check. The Activity Check for all ranked characters is the end of September, 5 days from now.

Remember that IC Actions = IC Consequences! If your Candidate does something foolish, they will be called out and removed.

If you wish your Candidate to receive injuries, please indicate at the bottom of your first post - mild, moderate, severe. Injuries will not effect chances of Impressions unless you decide the character development is more important (in which case, note that please).

The only characters on the Sands should be the Gold, the Goldrider, the Candidatemasters, the Candidates, and Healers assigned to the Hatching. All others should be in the Stands, though of course that's up to you if they mind that! (ICA = ICC)

Vosin and Killakeeth

Everyone had been expecting this for days now. The final count down. The precious moment when the first dragon voices raised in that expectant hum to announce the new arrivals. Vosin had also been planning for it. In fact she'd had her outfit laid out and ready to go soon as Killakeeth gave the word.

The word came far too early in the morning. However, Vos was up and quickly dressed after her dragon called her. She strolled down to the Sands long before any other arrived. "It's time!" The red-head called as she crossed the sands to stand beside her dragon. This is what it all came down to. That critical moment. A grin covered her face as the gold raised her head back.

She knew it was time. How she knew, Killakeeth couldn't say exactly. Not that it mattered. What mattered was it was time for young dragons to come forth and pick their partners. To be connected to them forever, or not. It is, Killakeeth replied solemnly. She raised her head back in the familiar song she sang to bring the hatchlings into the world.

Candidate Litaidar

Ever since the touching, Lita had definitely been second guessing herself. Was this really for her? The emotions she'd gotten from the eggs had freaked her out to an extent. She never got any sense from her wherry eggs when she'd handled them. Usually it was a day or less after they'd been laid, so maybe that had something to do with it. Still it wasn't natural.

Even being an early riser didn't prepare her. A thrumming echoed through her dreams, slowly growing in intensity. It didn't wake her though; what did was some fool ringing a cowbell! What blasted dimglow was ringing a cowbell this fardling early?! Lita lifted up onto her elbow and knuckled sleep from her eyes.

"Wha?" came intelligently from her mouth. It took a bit before what was really happening, not some cruel trick, to really penetrate. Eggs. Hatching. Oh. Lita debated pulling her covers back up over her head and hiding here until it was over. Unfortunately not meant to be as an assistant hustled her out of bed and into a robe. She stumbled toward the sands with some others.

Candidate Banashe

It didn't take much to wake her. The feeling in her bones jolted up out of sleep. Banashe bolted up in bed and peered around the dim room. It was barely light enough to make out shapes. At least until some people brought glows in. She blinked to adjust her eyes and hissed at Octavia to wake her, wondering why people were invading and ordering candidates into their robes. Just then the glow turned on in her head. That sensation must be the dragons humming! Which meant that the eggs were hatching. Now it was clear why she needed to dress.

Banashe hurled herself out of bed and dragged on the robe. She wanted to get to the sands as fast as possible. Early fisher got the fish right? "Hurry Octavia!" She hurried the other girl as much as she thought would be allowed. Despite wanting to get there early, she wasn't going to leave her sister behind.

(Edit- Litaidar and Banashe are open for any injuries!)

S'kiro woke a bit groggily to the sounds of Neptanth humming. His eyes bolted wide open. Already? Knowing after all the turns that it was happening, he grabbed his stuff. You have time. They are just starting to move. Slowing down a tiny little bit, with his Ishbel bringing some food to him. "Always the thoughtful flit, girl." He finished and hurried to the stands. He wanted to be in a good spot to see the Impressions.

Stepping out of his weyr, the searchrider looked at how early it was. How the hatchlings could pick such a time as this, he didn't know. Now you should move a bit, others are starting to show up. Which meant, S'kiro would have to talk to the others, but with his blue there it was a lot better. He picked his pace up, with a yawn or two there. He looked to see the other dragons there, and how proud Killakeeth was on the sands.

Janel

Like most other Candidates, Janel was sound asleep when the humming started. And probably also like most of them, he didn't wake up until the loud clanging of a cowbell resounded through the Candidate barracks. He jerked upright, startled and uncomprehending for a moment, until the shouts of the Candidatemaster, Assistants, and the other Candidates caught his attention. "They're hatching? Now?" he asked blearily. Then he noticed the humming. That was a signal no weyrbrat would mistake. Hatching!

He flung his covers aside and scrambled out of his bed, not bothering to be neat. This was not a time for neat. It was a time for fast! He wasn't going to miss this! He quickly pulled off his sleeping clothes and pulled on the Candidate robe that he'd kept waiting by his bed. He lingered only enough to jam his feet into shoes before he was off and running for the Hatching Grounds.

(Edit: Janel may incur up to minor injuries)

Octavia
14 turns; heading to the sands
Candidate

Humming, lots of humming. It was almost melodic but mostly loud. She swatted at her sister thinking it was her but quickly realized it was the eggs. Candidate masters arrived shortly after she sat up to confirm her suspicions. She had never experienced this before so it was all new to her, and it was exciting.it seemed her sister was awake too and she quickly got out of bed and got dressed."I'm coming! I'm coming don't worry."

Quickly she was up, dressed and ready to go. She grabbed her sisters hand and the two quickly departed for the sands.

Candidate Litaidar

She trailed reluctantly toward the Sands behind some other candidates. Some seemed eager, and others a bit apprehensive. Lita wondered about that. Some candidates didn't look that young truth be told. She was quickly distracted from that thought by entering the Sands proper and the hot sands there that she even felt through her thin sandals. They could have at least been given something better to protect their feet. A bit belatedly she bowed to the humming mother after she reached her spot. Where was Kitchi?

Candidate Banashe

The humming of the dragons only increased her excitement. Taking her twin's hand, Banashe was grateful Octavia didn't take long and the pair headed toward the sands. "How long do you think until the first hatches? Who will hatch first?" She whispered, kind of loudly, to her sister. Her eyes were bright and alert as they crossed the threshold of the Sands. The sands predictably hot under foot. Ship decks in the sun could get burning hot too, so her feet weren't too bothered.

Banashe bowed respectfully to the gold mother singing her welcome song. Dues made, her eyes turned to the eggs. She gripped Octavia's hand tightly. Her eyes darted around the group of eggs as she spotted first one egg move then another. Satisfied that none were about to imminently hatch, her eyes glanced toward the candidates straggling in. Who would impress today? Who could be of use to her?

Octavia
14 turns; on the sands
Candidate

She was so excited, she wasn't sure what to feel, what to think. It was a lot to process, going from running a ship and diving in the sea every day. With her sisters hand in her own she smiled towards her as they headed towards the warm sands that held the eggs. "I'm not sure, maybe soon? I hope soon. I think the Rumbling egg at the back of the clutch"

She gave a bow and a greeting to the gold and then followed onto the sands after her sister. She honestly wasn't sure which one might hatch first but that was her hunch for the time being. It just seemed like it was ready to burst open from what she could remember, not out of eagerness, but just because it seemed ready.

Candidate Banashe

She grinned. Banashe figured everyone wanted it to be soon. How long could dragons hum anyhow? Her gaze turned back to the eggs. "Rumbling eh?" Not a bad choice. There were so many eggs to pick from anyhow. She eyed the wigglers and weighed her choices. "What about that one over there?" She pointed to a medium egg nearby the Clawed and Twinging eggs. This was fun. The stands were starting to fill. Riders, holders, and dragons. She listened as the dragons added in their voices to the hum. Were some eggs moving more? It was so hard to tell. She shifted on her feet.

J'nes and Hatteth

Hatteth had slept lightly that night, since the feeling of anticipation was almost palpable. As soon as the humming started, he was up. Mine, wake up. They hatch! he urged his rider, even as he was standing up to shade the sand from his hide.

J'nes had slept more deeply, but woke almost as quickly. His dragon didn't need to tell him twice. He sat up, shook off the bedclothes, then shook his weyrmate's shoulder. "J'len, wake up. The Hatching is here! Janel will be Standing!" He didn't have time to make sure she got up, and he figured between her dragon and her eagerness to see their son, she'd be along soon anyway. He quickly pulled on his clothes, stamped his feet into his boots and raced out the door. Hatteth was crouched and ready, and it took only a moment for J'nes to hop up onto his dragon's neck. "To the Hatching Grounds!" he called eagerly.

As they were Assistant Candidatemasters, the pair didn't head for the stands. Instead, Hatteth dropped down near the exit where the young weyrlings would come to feed the newly-bonded hatchlings. Hatteth backed off and waited once J'nes had dismounted, but the rider got to work. He set about making sure the tables of food were set up, that chopped meat was prepared and ready, that everything was spaces apart enough that there would be no crowding, and that there was enough to feed all 22 hatchlings. Then he stood near the tables, ready to welcome the new weyrlings and instruct the young riders on how to feed their bondmates.

As if waiting for some unknown signal, the eggs all stopped wiggling all at once, the tick-tocking back and forth pausing just long enough it garnered much attention. Some were concerned - sudden cessation of movement was bad wasn't it? Someone else agreed, nodding as they leaned over the rail to peer at the eggs.

Perhaps it was a joke among all the dragons, as the murmurs grew and concern swept the audience one egg burst open explosively, the shell fragments sailing through the air to skid across the sands near the candidates. The dragon bellowed, almost laughing, as it stretched every single limb and swept its tail across the sand thoroughly pleased with itself. They thought they'd had it figured out hey? Not a chance!

Bouncing, the vibrant green trotted off towards the Candidates while a second and third egg hatched similarly, one revealing a green so bulky and burly at infancy, one could only assume it would a beast when it hit adult while the other was a slender thing, graceful in movement.

It wasn't as long as she thought it would be before the first egg shattered open, a green bounding towards the candiates, proud and happy it looked like. Two more greens seemed to burst through their shells in suit and she stood in amazment. This was so wonderful to her and it was simply beautiful to watch.

She simply couldn't believe that her sister and herself were here. It was amazing, to go from where they were to being here. She reached out and touched her sisters arm gingerly. This was it.

Though they were young and could impress from other clutches to come, but still. This was so exciting, it was more exuberant than diving in the ocean and swimming with shipfish. This was something else all together and she couldn't wait to see where she would go from here. Her and her sister both.

Vosin and Killakeeth

The hatching was proceeding normally. Guests and riders filed in and candidates arrived on the sands. She nodded to those who were clearly filled with excitement. All of a sudden the movement stopped. Not a single egg moved. Vosin frowned and studied the eggs before glancing toward her dragon. Unusual clutches yes, bizarre no. What were those blasted eggs doing?

She sang her welcome to the clutch. The eggs rocked and rocked. As if someone had flipped the glows closed all movement stopped. Killa deepened her moment, knowing the moment was close. Three eggs shattered explosively almost together. She welcomed the young dragons.

Candidate Litaidar

The whole place seemed to be holding it's breath. Lita noticed that not a single egg moved. Were they all in trouble? Did they need help? She glanced around at those around her. No one else seemed to be moving. A look at the gold and rider provided no helpful clues there either. She wasn't ready for the shattering force of the first eggs hatching. Lita jumped in surprise. Her eyes were wide as three greens made their way toward the candidates.

Candidate Banashe

She narrowed her eyes suspiciously as the eggs stopped wiggling. That wasn't how it'd been described in class. Banashe was about to say something when the first shell shattered. A beautiful green proudly exited her shell. Swiftly followed by two more. Well. She nodded to herself. Her eyes kept close watch on the young dragons. She noted who they went up to and what they did.

The first green to hatching practically bowled her rider over as she found them among the Candidates, scattering those nearby as they feared the Impression to be a mauling. The other two greens began to wander the lines, bumping and nosing and even scrambling over others as they searched.

Back at the clutch, one more egg hatched, spilling forth a brown that moved with the grace of a jungle feline. Gliding along the ground with long, measured steps, the brown seemed as though a living shadow as he prowled out among the Candidates.

Behind him, the Athletic Egg cracked down the middle, and with little effort, the dragon inside sent the shell halves skidding across the sands to either side, leaving a boldly patterned blue balanced on his hind legs with surprising ease, wings flared out to both sides.
