The sound had frightened him - of course he hadn't expected it and even when he realised what it was he was cautious. It had to be a trap. Others had seen, too, and they had come out, eyes a twinkle with hope and amazement. Some of the children laughed - some pointed and oohed and aahed.
Then they moved. Elliot wasn't sure why or when they started moving but it was a collective action - they were all drawn to the display without any question of the danger. It was a casino - even if the sign didn't spell it out for them the shear number of lights would have. The doors were opened and they all stepped inside.
The path split and Elliot took the right - picking up a leaf from the groun.

Elliot stared in wonder, a million senses assaulted at once as soon as he settled. Smoke clawed at his throat, thick and heavy. The smell of alchohol burned in his nostrils but made his mouth water. His head was spinning and as if out of nowhere an attendant appeared and handed him a drink and a pile of a coins.
He sipped the drink and listened to her explanation, glancing around the room. It appeared others were playing so he shrugged and set down at the blackjack table. He hit on 14 and was dealt an 8. Bust.

He took another sip from his drink and as he went to put it down on the table, it slipped off the edge and fell to the ground with a crash. He soon followed, the world spinning and going dark around him.
He awoke to the sound of applause, wanting to stand and look around until he realised he couldn't. He was tied to a chair. He struggled against the restraints but all that managed to do was hurt his wrists. The announer continued and he stopped his struggling enough to pay attention to her.
Buy ourselves? He struggled again, mostly out of uncertainty. This was a joke. It had to be a joke. He stayed silent - not wanting to ask questions and someone came forward and dragged him. He tried to fight, to kick them away but it was a stupid effort and when the person dragging him laughed, he stopped. He should save his strength.
They stopped and he locked eyes with two people. They were in the situation as he and he had to choose. He could only save one. He looked from face to face - the woman was beautiful and he might've selected based on that alone. But the man - Elliot didn't even want to call him that, he seemed so young, so scared. He reminded him of his own brother and he nodded towards him. "The boy," he said, throat dry and voice coming out in a croak.
They took the lady away and Elliot tried to will the sounds of her screams away. He wanted to ask what was in the room when the boy shot up and ran for the exit. BANGBANGBANGBANGABANG. It happened quickly and like that, Elliot had given the casino two lives.
