Maria was bored, and always was. She had yet to make friends and while it wasn't such a big concern to the young hybrid, she didn't have much to do. She wasn't an artist. She didn't care for sports. She wasn't into sciences. She was just Maria, and often was left to her own devices. Lately, she had taken to reading horoscopes on her free time, but that only ate up so much time!
It was nearing night time and the freshling knew the caretakers would be calling them to bed soon. Before that, she wanted to observe the stars real quick, and so she made her way to the rooftop. Of course, a caretaker drifted somewhere behind her, but she was used to the attention. She never lived a day without a caretaker, and the idea that, someday, she'd be independent piqued her curiosity. Someday, she'd be able to come to the rooftop alone. What was that like? Not having an adult to tell you where to go and when?

It was almost bedtime, but Andromeda wasn't tired at all... in fact, he was wide awake and still very full of energy. He'd seen one of the other freshlings in his house wander outside, followed by a caretaker, and became curious. Well, since there was a caretaker, that meant he could go too. He toddled on out after them and followed them up to the rooftop, keeping quiet just in case they were leaving because the noise level was too much. Andy did not want to cause trouble, after all.
Once outside and up top, he looked around, captivated by the sky. The small, barely visible stars that were starting the little the sky always fascinated him, but he wasn't really one for science. History was more his game, like a proper Fallen. He wandered over to where the other freshling was, still looking up.
"It's really pretty huh?"]

Maria flapped her wings as she heard the sound of tiny feet heading over, stepping aside to give room for the visitor. To her surprise, a Fallen her own age stopped beside her and addressed the hybrid, causing a brief startled jump. Maria hadn't expect the statement, her eyes trailing back up to view the slowly filling sky. Pretty wasn't the word she usually would use for the night sky. Marvelous. Splendid. Spectacular. Those were the words she wished to utter as she gazed upon the sky.
"It is." She agreed, nodding her head as her eyes remained locked on the stars. "Am I intruding on your spot?" She questioned softly, finally averting her gaze long enough to truly glance over the other child. Oh, his wings were gorgeous. Consciously, the hybrid pulled her wings close, attempting to hide them as best as she could as she, enviously, eyed the others wings. It wasn't often she found herself jealous, but wings were often a sore spot for the young lady. The boy probably could fly, even! How lucky was he? She barely could even flutter!

Andromeda's gaze remained locked on the sky above, though they did smile a little at her agreement. It was nice to know they wasn't the only one. Some of the others they'd talked to didn't seem to have much appreciation for the night sky, or if they did it was from a purely scientific standpoint. Not that they disliked that, they just wanted to admire the sky for what it appeared to be visually rather that what it was physically.
Her question tore their attention away, though. They blinked and looked over, then shook their head. "Oh, no! Not at all. I just saw that people were coming up here so I wanted to come too." He nodded, then smiled a little. "Am I intruding? I can go back inside if I am." In this light it was a little hard to see, but he could at least work out the little horns on her head, the tail and... the feathered wings? They were feathered, right? Andromeda had no particular thoughts on hybrids, but it was interesting to see someone like her... they wondered briefly if she could fly even better than other fallen, they'd heard that Chimera had especially strong wings.

She had been about to answer when she saw his eyes flick towards her wings, immediately shifting so her back was away from eyesight. Shaking her head, the hybrid began to settle down on the nearby bench, pulling herself up and wiggling until her feet dangled away from the ground, kicking her legs lazily.
"No, you're fine!" She assured, head shaking right after her statement.
"I'm Maria. Who are you?" She had finally remembered her manners! That, or the caretaker's glance reminded her she had yet to introduce herself. She found her eyes betraying her as she began to observe the other again. He even had markings, too! Just like her! Was it rude to compliment someone's markings?
"Your markings are very pretty." Shoot. Well, she was about to find out.

Oh, dear, they'd probably upset her... at least, she seemed to move quickly so her wings weren't in view anymore. Andy mentally scolded himself for being rude. Mommy had said it was rude to stare, he should have remembered. He remained standing, not wanting to invade her space any further.
"I'm Andromeda! Um, you can call me Andy though, my name is kinda long.... but I like yours! It's really pretty." He nodded, wings fluttering a little to show his excitement. He noticed that she kept looking at his wings... were they really that interesting? He supposed that maybe he was just used to them so he didn't really think they were all that interesting....
"Thank you!" He grinned, fluttering his wings again with a little more enthusiasm. "Yours are very pretty too... you match the sky!"

Andromeda! What a unique name! They had to restrain themselves from flapping their wings, instead just flashing a grin. Their tail wagged behind themselves, causing their body to wiggle in turn.
"I'm Maria. And thank you! I love your name~!" And it was the truth! His name sounded like a star! She watched his wings flutter, unconsciously repeating the action herself! Oh no! Pressing her wings against her back, the freshling pushed against the bench in an attempt to keep her wings still.
"Oh! Do they?" She exclaimed, genuinely grinning at the compliment. She looked like the night sky? That was the best comment ever! "Thank you! Oh, yours look like the sun setting!"

Andromeda giggled, happy that she liked his name. "Thank you!" He decided to climb up onto a bench near hers. His feet were starting to ache... it had been a long day full of classes and learning and a lot of walking. "They do! I like them a lot." He grinned, wiggling his feet much like she had. "Do they?? I never thought of that... thank you! That's a very nice thing to say." He nodded again, then looked back up at the sky, thinking....
He couldn't recall seeing her around before... maybe he just wasn't that observant? For shame.... "Do you come up here a lot?"

She wiggled to the side so he had more room, feet swinging idly as she flashed a smile. She watched his eyes trail back to the sky, returning her gaze to the heavens with a tiny smirk. Did she come by here often? Sometimes. Usually when people were being too loud, or when she needed a moment to meditate.
"Sometimes." She hummed back, tapping her hands against her knees in thought. "I like to come here before bedtime." She added, wiggling her feet under the bench.
"Actually!" She suddenly squeaked, flashing a bright smile as she shifted to face Andromeda more. "Did you know that you can tell someone's future by reading the stars?"

He nodded, he could understand that. This seemed like a nice place to go before bed... perhaps he should come out here more often himself. "Is it always this peaceful?" He tilted his head a little. If it was perhaps he really would come up more often, he was already starting to feel relaxed and perhaps more ready to go to bed...
"You can? I didn't know that! How??" He shifted a little closer, wings fluttering again in excitement, even his little earfeathers twitched.

Was it always this peaceful? In the evening, no. It was when the sun set and the other children grew more interested in bed and stories that the rooftop was the quietest. She often wondered why the caretakers even let her up here, but eventually she assumed it was because she often fell asleep on the bench. Maria was not easy to put to bed. She had plenty of questions and things to consider, and the rooftop seemed the only sure fire way to set her down for the night.
"Most kids don't come up here at night." She announced. Well, the juniors and seniors seemed to avoid the freshlings and where they'd likely be until they knew they were asleep. She had no clue if anyone came up here after bedtime.
"Sometimes I wish I could sleep up here all night." She added, leaning against the bench with a soft sigh. When Andy shifted closer she flapped her wings, excitement appearing across her tiny face at his question.
"Oh! I'm learning how to, but so far it has something to do with your zodiac sign and how the stars are aligned. One day, I could tell your future?" Presumptuous little kid, but Maria fully planned to discover the secrets.

Andromeda nodded, it figured they wouldn't. Though... they were really missing out! On clear nights like this, the sights were so beautiful... If it wouldn't disturb the peace, he might recommend it to others. But, since Maria seemed to like how quiet it was, he decided that was probably not a good idea... or a nice thing to do.
"I s'pose that makes sense... I don't see a lot of people come this way!" He nodded again, then tilted his head. "You sleep up here?" He looked around the roof again, humming a little as he thought... "That could be really cool... like an outside sleepover!" He clapped his hands together, and looked back to Maria in time to see her wings flutter. Oh... such interesting wings..... He really shouldn't stare. Whoops.
"Ooh, really?? That sounds cool! I'd love that, I think."

While she had tried to sleep on the roof, it seemed a common warning that doing so was unsafe. The caretakers always would frown when she requested the chance to sleep up on the rooftop, and mostly because she could either get a cold, or she needed a proper bed. Stupid reasoning, really. The whole world was a bed! Maria could sleep anywhere! Didn't they know that?
"I've tried." She announced, kicking her feet absently. "But they always carry me to my room, instead." Maria shot a look at the caretaker, a tiny little pout on her features. The caretaker didn't seem to phased, instead shrugging and glancing over towards the doorway. The tiny child looked back at Andy, wiggling her fingers together.
"Really? Maybe you could visit my dorm sometime? I'd be happy to try on you!" She was sure her roommates wouldn't mind! And if they did there was always the common rooms, too! She always was trying to test her fortune telling on her roommates, but they often were far too busy playing with their toys or napping. Maria didn't have time for either of those things. She was a busy busy girl!

They wouldn't let her? How lame... maybe they'd allow the courtyard instead? That wasn't on a roof! That was surely a lot safer.. plus, sleeping on the plush grasses of the courtyard while looking up at the stars would be wonderful. He sighed wistfully just thinking about it... "What if we asked if we could sleep in the courtyard? 'Cause that's not on a roof... and the grass is soft!" He nodded, hoping that suggestion would help.
"Oh boy! I'd love to! Thank you so much." He giggled, wings fluttering again in his laughter. He'd have to think up something to repay her with... after all, that was polite!

Her eyes swiveled back to him, a thoughtful tail flick following. They could ask. Maybe they could ask to camp on the courtyard? They'd surely allow that, right? Something about enriching their experiences?
"We should ask." She chirped with in response, tapping her chin with a claw. Maybe they could even track the Headmistress down? She'd override anything the caretakers said! Oh! They could give the puppy eyes, even! She'd heard somewhere that Ava was easily swayed by freshlings, it couldn't be that hard.
Suddenly, she remembered something another caretaker said. There was supposed to me a ..... what was the word..... oh! A meteor shower coming up! They should camp out during then!
"Lets ask her soon! There's supposed to be a meteor shower at the end of the month!" She almost squeaked in excitement, glancing over at her new friend as her tail wagged behind her, smacking against the bench violently with little caution.
