Ras was still shy of the available games, watching as other people placed what seemed like large amounts of currency down for a chance at salvation. He had stayed by Gilda, and a few had gotten lucky, but even more were spiraling deeper and deeper into debt.

Every once in a while, there was a crackle of names and numbers over the intercom, announcing those who had been divested of their collars.

Ras heard the name of the Warden called early in the night. It was good. It meant that the staff would continue to have jurisdiction, and that...certain resentment from the prisoners...anyway, if -when they scraped together the coins, it meant continued security for Gilda.

What he was not expecting, however, was to hear his name called to come to the lobby. His hand flew to his collar, and he looked at Gilda in surprise. "Was that...?" he asked.

Gilda didn't want to gamble, frankly she was afraid to given the grim fate of the young man who was supposed to be her "patron", instead she'd hung around watching other people sink deeper and deeper into their problems, always trying to think of some other way out and finding herself panicked and distressed when she couldn't. She'd stuck close to Ras mostly, apart from a short time when she'd gone to speak to some of the others from the prison. Now and then she was forced to dabble in the odds, but every time she withdrew back to Ras, trying to recharge either by snippy demands or temporary contact with the other man.

She hadn't been expecting anything to come of her conversation and was more relieved than she could explain when they called Ras's name out over the intercom, setting him free. She gave him a smile, soft and not too emphatic.

"It was you I think." she said. "And now you are back to being only my possession."

Her own collar still glowed with the price she had been allocated, but she did not seem too concerned about it.

Ras leaped forward, embracing her wholly and tightly, to overwhelmed with happiness to think to do anything else. "We're free," he said hoarsely. "We can both leave. We can be m-" and here, he stuttered to a stop, finishing weakly, "go. We can go home."

He dug into his own collection of coins, tight in his fist, and moved with Gilda towards the Lobby.

He bared his throat almost proudly to the security officers, lifting his chin as the collar buzzed green and they took it off him, to refit for someone else.

"Wait," he rasped, digging out his own collection. "For her."

They eyed the handfuls of coins. "125?" They asked, calmly, taking out a clipboard.

"N-no, but, with hers-" he turned to Gilda.

"Coins can not be exchanged, given away, or traded," the officer informed him, voice clipped. "One person must have the full amount."

All the air and blood seemed to go out of Ras's face, and his hands shook. "But," he said, hoarse, "b-but."

"Congratulations!" The casino worker said in a clipped and somewhat sarcastic tone, putting away his clipboard and going to deal with people who were ready.

Gilda might normally have reprimanded him for hugging her, she might normally have pushed him away or reminded him of his place. But this wasn't normal, none of this was normal and her nerves were frayed and worn by the hell they'd all been put though, so she indulged and she let him, holding him for the few brief moments that they had.

She followed along behind him as they moved towards the lobby of the casino, a leaden weight of dread nestling there.

She found herself wanting to kiss the bare expanse of throat as he showed it to her, but refrained, giving the officer a grim and dire look. Of course there was some stupid catch, of course. They couldn't pool what they had, it was just typical. Her expression seemed to grow distant once again as she processed this, somewhere far away in her own mind.

She took his hand and her nails bit the way they always did when the stress pooled and loomed beneath the surface of her psyche and leant her strength while sapping her life away tick by tick. It wasn't a state she could maintain without cracking and she shook her head and tugged, trying to lead him away.

"It's fine." she said.

There was a determination in the way she set the wager on the table after that, and it took a surprisingly short amount of time for her to finally make up the amount she required, helped along by the subtle donation from the warden.

When she won the last hand that earned her her freedom, she kissed him deeply and when they returned to the officer, it was to get her own collar removed from around her neck, where she'd never felt that it really belonged anyway.

When she released his hand to play games, he watched her worriedly, rubbing the palm of his hand and trying to preserve the indents her nails had made.

The deep kiss, however, he sank into, growing quickly lost in and returning against the poker table. He only broke it to speak her name, but it was her that arranged both their clothing and headed back to the lobby to pay in full.

He did not know the fate of those who did not pay, beyond being back in that chair. He was not even sure why they had constructed the games to let people go, and why after the initial round of drugging they were not tied somewhere. Even the Undying steered clear of the place. Rasputin did not feel very whimsical when it came to dying.

He reached out with careful fingers to touch Gilda's bare neck, letting out a big sigh of relief that made tears well up in his eyes. He wiped them with the back of his wrist.

"We're free."

They wouldn't have to go to the roulette.
