About the only thing Lease had done by now was play the slot machines. It would have been nice to continue with them, just plugging away with the lever and listening to the sweet chatter of coins falling. But apparently the stupid casino limited the plays on the things for them.
Now the teenager was sitting at an unused black jack table - surprising there was one - with her coin bucket in her lap and was staring at her phone. Out of habit she had it in her pocket, something she just couldn't give up even though it had plainly died after about the second day within the mall. None of the power worked and the arcade had completely different outlets. The casino didn't, she noticed after a small walk about. But of course she didn't have a cord with her.
So, now here she was staring at a blank screen, her finger gliding every so often against it. And totally not playing any of the games when she should be basking in the idea of being able to when she was clearly not of age to gamble or anything.

"Is that phone working?" 888 asked quite nosily from directly over Lease's shoulder. She could only see her reflection in the black material of the mask, and very faintly the hint of a pair of eyes.

It shouldn't have been unexpected to hear a voice near her, there were so many already. The casino was very noisy after all. But all in the same, Lease jumped a little in her chair when she heard it. Not to mention, it sounded kind of odd, a little muffled like it was behind a mask. when she turned to the owner of it, she came to learn that yeah.. it was a mask.
"What are you supposed to be? Daft Punk? Someone from Tron?" Was he from the mall? He had to be from the mall, who else would wear something like that unless they were pushed to abide with Guy's weird dress code? Oh wait, she realized, she saw him just before they all left here. He had said something about Rebecca and some other odd comments along with.
It was tempting to ask about that, since no one gave her answers before but she decided to respond to his question, "course not," she snorted, brushing a finger against the surface again. "Don't suppose you have a cord on you?" Maybe he would with that get up.

"Zer0. Video game character? No one here plays any video games?" He made a sweeping motion of the costume, especially the helmet. There was a distinct lack of recognition, and he sighed. "Never mind."
"Shame," he responded flatly at the news, sounding immediately disinterested. 888 was pure utility today. "Oh. No. And even if I did, I haven't seen a single outlet in this place."
There was a pause, before curiosity crept back into his slightly robotic-sounding voice. "So. If it's not working, why are you looking at it?"

All Lease could think of when he presented his costume for her was how she wished she could get online to google it, maybe then she would recognize it. Surely she'd seen Borderlands posted somewhere before on the websites she frequented. "The rents don't really like me playing video games, so they don't buy them, only manage the ones on the phone." She told him, shaking the device for emphasis.
"I thought I saw a few of them when I walked around," Lease frowned. Hopefully it wasn't her imagination or the casino - or whatever government organization that was holding this - playing tricks on her. The outlets and her phone could really be chalked up to, "just wishful thinking, I guess. I miss it, you know? Always got me out of jams." She felt less of her resourceful self without it, the little life saver in the palm of her hands was dead.
