Noises were something he never enjoyed even when things were busy at school, when the campus was used as a campus and not as a survival center. He had a quiet classroom where he talked and not even that loudly, and he drove home with the radio low. At home, it was the distant sound of the television and he went to bed to read or do the paper in silence. It was nice, the quiet, which made noises bothersome. He never did go to Vegas. He wasn't THAT sort of person and he knew the faculty made jokes that he was secretly a "live wire" before laughing at the idea of him doing anything rebellious. Yet, he couldn't blame them. He wasn't that type of person.
Yet the lights were so strange that it was hard to look away. He was drawn to it, yet the entire time he was on edge, clutching the fabric of his jersey about his chest, and looking about at what all logic said would be hoards of the undying. Yet nothing came, and curiosity and an added dose of the surreal was added with the drawing desire to reach the lights. What he saw stood out even for the area on a normal, pre-chaos day. A casino? Money had only been really useful for bribing the select few, like the junkyard, who even saw any value in actual cash.
The fireworks shown bright as they flashed light and sound over the flashing display of the Delta Casino and for a moment, he could lose himself into thinking that this was normal and how things had been, should be, and that ultimately was what brought hm inside.

The casino was just as loud with chiming, bing, beeps, a clashing competition of music and tunes from the slot machines, the chatter of dealers and casino patrons, and the chime of coins into metal dishes. It was like stepping into another world, and he felt dazed as he walked in, looking around and feeling his eyeglasses weren't strong enough to take in everything.
A well-dressed attendant must have noticed his lost wandering or maybe it was because he was in no way dressed like anyone who worked here, who were not only very well groomed, cleaned, and in pressed suits, but also looked as if they had the most relaxing sleep for weeks on end. How did this place have energy to power all these useless games and have no one working around the clock in shifts to fortify their security?
A brightly colored drink was set into his hands and he stared at it, not one for drinking – but he was thirsty. It felt like the type of thing to do in a place like this, but the paranoia of the whole place being overrun had him worried. What if there was an attack? What if there was gunfire? He wasn't top notch material as it was.
The welcome party handed him coins and he was left standing there, a drink in one hand, coins in the other, and he felt as if he was in fact dreaming.
Out of place, he had no one to ask what to do, and instead wandered for a great time, standing in the background watching other people enjoy themselves and felt that was more intoxicating than the drink, but all the loud noise and excitement mixed with the strain on his nerves to stay on alert as if to overly compensate for everyone who wasn't was making him tired.
Eventually he sat in a the quietest corner he could find at a line of slot machines, set his half-sipped drink down, and looked at the coins. He didn't want to be kicked out if he didn't play, and so he fed a coin and started. It was easy. Lights, noise, a rolling picture display and then the three images. He did this a few times and managed to get a few coins back.
It was simple and in the world of not simple, it was nice to sit and not think.

The turning pictures of cherries and Jackpot swirled and swirled, going out of focus and he wondered if his tolerance was so bad to be done in by half a cocktail. He stood up only to sit back down, wishing he had some pretzels to help negate the effects before he felt himself tilt and everything went dark.
He woke in a room and he twisted his arms, shoulders sore and body aching from the strain of being in such a bad position. As he looked about, he saw he was in a classroom and he felt a sense of calm relief but he wasn't sitting up front at his desk and soon was left confused and worried. That was when the figures came, the well-dressed man from before, and he was quiet because he had learned never to push crazy lunatics from suggestions in late night news.
They spoke and soon showed that they used the lights and casino as a lure but their twisted mentalities also decided to make a distraction by putting their lives up for a game that would let them feel justified in killing others. It was strange they wouldn't kill everyone and stockpile for the coming months but maybe it suited to bring people in to see some people leave.
He nodded and let the man continue, shaping two children crying in their seats. He was give. A choice and so he picked the youngest. The boy was taken, the woman sent away to a back room he didn't ask about least they take him with her, and he swallows bike over and over as he threw up into his mouth. His acid reflux was acting up.
The boy panicked. Young and a nervous wreck and met his end too. Seemed the rules here had many exceptions.
[ Remain silent. ]
Before you can talk again, an attendant, wearing the Casino suit and vest, comes over and grabs you and your entire chair. You are dragged into a separate room. There are two people in the room, in the same situation as you.
"Now," booms the announcer voice in the new room, a much smaller one, "these are the losing players from the last game. A Bunch of sore losers if you ask me. But we're giving you a chance to redeem one as their patron. If you manage to buy yourself out of the games, then you will also buy one of them out too. Now, which one will it be?"
[ The Young Man ] He's a very honest looking young man, probably in his late teens. He stares numbly at you, mouth currently covered. He keeps on alternating between crying and shivering uncontrollably. He looks like he hasn't even graduated from high school.
---- You select him and they begin to untie him, dragging the lady off to the room beyond. The lady screams the entire time, and you feel obligated to ask what is in that room, when suddenly the man you rescued dashes for the exit the other direction.
Immediately, several bullets are fired, and the teen dies. You stare down in disbelief.
"What a freaking waste," exclaims the announcer, "well, whatever. I guess you don't get to be a patron after all. Now, let's continue onwards, shall we?

Two attendants came, dressed in the same classic casino attire, and stared to walk around him as he rubbed his swore wrist.
"He's old." One commented after a moment.
"Balding." The other said as if checking a cow for the quality of the beef.
"A little short and pudgy too. Looks worn out like a handbag." He caught the smile as she walked by him, talking to a male of similar age and looks. They could have been siblings or twins.
"Has all his parts. Standing up so that's something. What do you do? Jersey says university. You some old guy going back to take a class or the janitor?"
"Professor." He mumbled back.
"Ahhh. A smarty. I bet you could taste that." They laughed and the pair stood side by side looking him up and down.
"90?" She said and the guy shook his head.
"110. If he lived this long then he is doing good enough."
"Well." Morris corrected. "Well enough."
They both looked at him and smiled. "110 it is."
Frowning, they escorted him out of the room and back into the casino.
