- Winning hands (winning PLAYER) of each game get 25 casino coins! - Losing players (ALL OTHER PLAYERS IN THE GAME) get -5 casino coins! If you have LESS than 5 casino coins you CANNOT play a game of poker!
DIFFICULTY:
gaia_stargaia_stargaia_star
RULES OF THIS GAME:
[ Step 1]: - You must find a minimum of TWO other players to enter the poker table with you. If you cannot find someone else put a [ OPEN ] at the top of your post. This means you are open for inviting other players. You can have up to 5 people in a poker game thread, if you wish. All players may now come in, and roll in whatever order they wish, you really don't have to wait for players to get your rolls in!
Label your thread [ POKER RP] (PLAYERS HERE). You can play cross faction, obviously! Remember MINIMUM 3 players MAX 5 players!
The player who made the thread is responsible for closing it when finished.
[ Step 2]: All players must now roll 5d12 and make their FIRST POST in that thread. This equals the CARDS they have on their hands where 1= Ace, 11 = Jack, 12 = Queen. There are no kings. Edit your OOC accordingly with your hand. Make a post regarding your hand/entering the thread/ etc.
[ Step 3]: Look at your hand combination. You may now choose to DISCARD one card from your hand you do not like. Select which number you want to discard (from your rolls), and then in a second post, roll 1d12 again. This is your new card. Edit your OOC HAND accordingly, and write a small post of your character. This phase is optional.
[ Step 4]: Look at your hand combination. You may now choose to DISCARD ANOTHER card from your hand you do not like. Select which number you want to discard (from your rolls), and then in your third post, roll 1d12 again. This is your new card. Edit your OOC accordingly, and write a small post of your character. This phase is optional, and your LAST chance to swap cards.
[ Step 4b]: If you somehow have "cash" in your minis inventory, now is the chance to use it! Make a post, and RP that you are using your cash to BRIBE the dealer. Immediately send the cash item to Junkyard. This item WILL be removed from your inventory. When you have done so (don't worry about waiting for confirmation, just do NOT use this item anywhere else or you will be removed from the event), replace any card in your hand with a card of your choice. For example, if your current hand is 1, 2 , 2, 4, 5, with your bribe, you may now change it to 1, 2 3, 4, 5. Proceed to the next step when done. This step is only for CASH people only (if you own this item on the site).
[ Step 5]: You are done swapping cards! This is now your FINAL HAND. We're going to simplify the rules here for Poker so it isn't a big nightmare to complete. Look at the list below:
Select a combination that is APPROPRIATE to your hand. For example, if you have 2, 2, 5, 6, 7, your highest is a pair. If you got 2 3 4 5 6, your highest is a straight. etc etc. Use the form below to submit your final hand and rp out your post.
I AM SUBMITTING MY HAND My card combination: Inventory link: (proof of cash) Character name:
[ Step 6]: When ALL PLAYERS have submitted their hand, simply look at this chart again to see who has the highest combo. If there are two "tied" values, simply look at who has the higher card numbers. That person is the WINNER. If you are the WINNER of the thread, you get 25 casino points. Everyone else has to subtract 5 as penalty. Go ahead and edit your ooc for casino points accordingly.
If players are caught not subtracting points, they will be disqualified from any future poker games! If players do NOT respond in a timely manner despite posting one hand, they will be considered no longer part of the game (-5 penalty for "losing"). The wait period for a timely tag should be 12 hours before moving onwards. You may play multiple poker games at once.

Austin looked perfectly, totally, completely, obnoxiously, comfortable and content: jaw no longer broken, green eyes gone bright behind the heavy weight of his frames, settled at an empty table and chatting up an unfamiliar dealer -- perhaps trying to coax them to bend the rules for him, just a little bit. The answer was a solid no -- or, rather, a solid 'got any cash', which Austin stored away for future use.
The game hadn't stopped yet, but he was being choosy about who he allowed to sit, waiting for familiar faces to appear in the crowd. When they did, they'd get a sharp flash of teeth in a smile, almost dangerous, and a wave for them to sit their asses down.

Austin's slim and a bit taller than average at 5'10' with sandy hair shorn short on the sides, longer and curly on the top. His eyes, behind a pair of thin wire thick plastic frames with the wrong prescription, are faded green and usually amused; his skin is fair, freckling in sun unless he's careful; his mouth is just a little too full, in a way that appeals to most people.
Liam had sort of just wandered after his brief stop at the slot machines. He appeared lost, miserable, and considerably more hopeless than he usually looked on any given day. His sweater was hanging off one shoulder, bag slung haphazardously off the opposite one, and the collar around his neck was blinking brightly 135. He didn't notice Austin at first, mostly because he'd begun to associate smiles with those working for the casino. It had taken a long moment for his brain to catch up to the fact that this was someone he knew, someone he more or less trusted in varying degrees on any given day.
"Austin?" Numbly, he sank down into the seat beside him, staring wearily. He looked...fine. Better than fine. He looked positively bright eyes and bushy-tailed. Refreshed, content, excited. "How... yo.." The words died on his tongue, a deep frown replacing the lost look.

"Sit." Austin pointed to a chair next to him, pulled out just a couple of inches, with a brightly familiar expression. It was a nice enough order but it was also, certainly, an order: no choice for Liam, he expected it to happen. At his left hand, Austin still had a drink, about halfway empty, and it certainly wasn't his first. Either he hadn't had the same experience as Liam in the opening, or it hadn't had the same effect on him.
Spoiler: It was the second.
"We need three to play, and I have a hunch poker's where the smart guys spend their coins, so keep an eye out -- ah!" His hand shot out as someone else went past, to tap Harvard on the arm and then turn, slowly, to point to the seat on his other side.
The two very men he'd wanted to see, and Austin could sit between them. How could this be bad?
The hand was unexpected, but Harvard did not startle easily. Instead, he turned with a bland expression on his face, ready to calmly ask 'what the ******** are you doing putting your damn grubby hands on my shirt'. But the expression melted a little, lips quirking up slyly as he saw who it was. Interesting, interesting.
Liam looked, quite frankly, utterly shell-shocked, but Austin seemed to flow easily in this environment. He sat like he owned the table. But, in reality, the cards decided that. Gambling was always vaguely unnerving. It was game, yes, but it was a game he did not have control over. There was, however, no choice. It was do or die and Harvard certainly didn't deserve to die. So, he sat down, arm deliberately brushing Austin's. Leaning forward slightly, his eyes flicked from Liam to Austin and back. The difference was astounding.
"Making yourselves comfortable?"

Orders in this new found crisis were shockingly comforting. Liam might have already been sitting, but Austin's command taking the choice from him actually managed to chip away a small kernel of tension from the younger boy. He fell quiet as Austin spoke, and tried to ignore how terribly normal he seemed in this environment while alternately being grateful for it. He'd always been the stronger one. The one in control. That had never, and likely would never change.
A dark brow twitched up questioningly at the mention of poker being a smart guy's game, clearly puzzled by his own presence at the table if that were the case. Liam knew himself well enough to know he didn't fall into that category. Brains had never been his strong suit. Athleticism, that's what he'd excelled at, but that didn't seem to amount to much in this new world.
He was a little shocked when Austin reached out to poke Harvard on the arm, inviting him to join them. If Liam could have picked, Harvard was probably somewhere near the bottom of his list of people he'd willingly gamble against or with, or spend more time than was strictly necessary. He frowned, eyes twitching down at the too casual brush of arms, then up as Harvard spoke. Not entirely sure how he was supposed to answer that.
How was everyone acting so calmly? Had they not seen? Were they not forced to choose...? To watch?

"Cards!" It was sudden, decisive, Austin's eyes going back to the dealer in a bright sort of way, and it would immediately become clear that he was a little -- only a little -- drunk. Probably because he'd been drinking pretty much continuously since entering the place, unconcerned about the potential for being knocked out again.
And deal their man did, five cards to each of them. Austin took his to eye the numbers in a mock-stealthy way. Maybe this was his version of a poker face.

Harvard tapped on his cards idly before bending them up just enough to glance at the values. Three Aces. Not a great hand, but not bad. There were still a few rounds. Austin was acting a little bright, enough to guess that he was drinking alcohol. Harvard was a man of many vices, but not alcohol, not here. Sadly.
Liam just looked miserable. "Cards it is then. Looking a little peaked, Liam. Want a cig?" He reached across Austin to proffer it, spinning it around one finger.
Austin called a start to the game, and Liam reached wordlessly for the drink in the other boy's hand so he could up end the rest of it in one long swallow. If he was going to have to do this, if he was going to endure doing this, he was going to need something to take the edge off. Half a glass of Whiskey was probably not going to cut it, but it was a good start, at least. Wiping his mouth with the back of his hand, he set the empty glass on the outside edge of the table where a waitress came over and scooped it up a second later. He watched her walk away with it, lamenting the missed opportunity to order something else, then turned his head back to the table and the cards that had been laid out in front of him.
With a small sigh he peeked at them, leaning forward to rest his elbow on the table in front of him, and his chin on his hand, only to sit up again as a cigarette appeared right in front of his face. "Uh..." He'd never been a smoker. Never wanted to be. It was not a habit that had ever appealed to him in the past.
It appealed now, a bit, of only because he couldn't help but fixate on the fact that this very well could be his last day on earth. Still frowning he took it, but instead of tucking the end between his lips, he just set it on the table in front of him.

Almost absently, without even looking, Austin reached out to grab the cig from in front of Liam -- both eyebrows raised and a smile quirking across his face. He settled it between his lips as he set down one of his cards to claim a new one.
"Do you have a light for this, Professor?" He cocked his head as he asked it, taking his new card and tucking it into place.

"You could've gotten your own, Austin. I've enough to go around." Normally, he'd have pointed out that his proper title was doctor, after all, but he let it slide. His mouth quirked into a smile, but he obligingly lit a match. Shielding it with his hand, it nearly fizzled out before he touched it to the tip of Austin's cigarette. He snuck another cigarette between his own lips, not lighting it just yet. Matches were precious.
He slid a card across the table. "Hit me." Then, looking at Liam: "Sure you don't want one?" He clicked his tongue at the new card.

Blue eyes trailed Austin's hands as he took the cigarette and tucked it between his lips, lingering there a moment before returning to his cards with a slight frown. He could count the number of times he'd played poker on one hand, and couldn't recall if he'd done well or not, because every other time he'd also been drinking.
"It's fine," was directed at Harvard, brows furrowed in concentration. Then he removed one of the cards from his hand and set it aside. "Hit me."
He didn't get anything useful in return. Hand: 5, 5, 1, 7, 2, 4

Absently, Austin claimed another card, and a grin spread across his mouth -- cocky certainty, since this wasn't exactly a version of poker that required a secretive expression. He set his whole hand down in front of him, drawing from the cigarette and considering first Liam, then Harvard.
Latter was probably the threat.
"So, winner's going to buy everyone else, right?"

He tapped on the table and the dealer sent him another card. "Austin, you think I can get a light?" He pointed to the cigarette in his mouth. An even trade. No wasted matches. Harvard considered his options carefully, rubbing his thumb along the table.
"Kind of like the idea of owning someone." He fanned out his cards. MAybe keep the collars... no, definitely.

For the moment Liam concentrated on his cards. A pair wasn't going to win it. Two pair wasn't either. He needed another five...
Mention of owning people had him looking up as he tapped the table for another card, brows furrowed as he looked between the two of them.
Their dealer slid another card across the table, and he lay the rest of his hand down beside it, features sliding closer to grime again.
