Lorena was so, so happy to have her eye sight back. When she’d woken up that morning and had slowly opened her eyes to see her bedroom, she couldn’t have been any happier. Nope, not one bit. She even gone off and done all of her tasks for the day with a pep in her step and a smile on her face. She had probably hadn’t been this happy since before all of this had started. Literally nothing could have ruined her day, not being hungry or thirsty, not the undying… Well maybe dying would have ruined her day but she’d be dead so she wouldn’t know right?
And then the fireworks happened, Lorena had been up on the roof looking over the city at night when they went off. She turned to look then and spotted the brightly lit place with all its brilliance. She wondered how they could possibly have that much power when everyone else seemed to be struggling. The fireworks went off again; Lorena watched them until the very end. She hadn’t seen in who knew how long. It was a nice little treat, a great end to an even greater day. Nothing could spoil this now.
Or almost.
A trip downstairs told her that folks had also seen it all happened, they all wanted to go and explore. Lorena had promised herself that she wouldn’t’ go back. That she wouldn’t go out there unless her life depended on it. Except like everyone else she wanted to check out the bright lights and what it was all about. In the end, she decided to go with the others. A place so lit up couldn’t possibly be dangerous, the undying didn’t seem fazed at all by their earlier display. O Lorena got on the band wagon and prayed for the best.

Lorena had never been to a casino in her life; she didn’t really enjoy gambling and had seen no reason to enter one. So that night when she did go in, all of her senses lit up like a flamboyant Christmas tree in July. The smells, the lights, it was all too much for her. She stayed glued in place at the entrance for a good while debating going back. Except everyone had already dispersed into the crowd of people, how were there so many people here? And – ohh that game was so flashy! Lorena finally walked over to inspect someone playing a slot machine.
Then she kept walking as if she were in a dream, taking it all in but not really focusing on anything in particular. She was too busy watching all the fancy lights and games and getting lost in everything. So much, too much but she was already lost in the amazement. Not too long after someone came up to her, handed her coins and set her off on her own. Again, the feeling of not being a gambler hit her but… Just one try at something couldn’t hurt right? The guy had handed her 50 coins after all, she may as well use them.
Hurby had been a blackjack player, maybe he was here! Lorena headed over to the blackjack tables and searched around. Maybe he’d gone to the bathroom? She’d wait, so Lorena took a seat at an empty table and played.
Hurby was the one who was good at this stuff, Lorena barely knew how to play. So when the dealer delta her a hand she stared at it a long time.
7 and 6 for a total of 13. Lorena pondered, and pondered, and pondered before finally signaling the man to give her another card.
23. She’d lost. Lorena sighed and decided to move on, no point in playing something that she wouldn’t be able to win at. She still hadn’t caught sight of Hurby so she decided to look elsewhere, if he wasn’t playing blackjack maybe he was playing something else.

Her clothes are always clean, her hair always neatly out of the way except on special occasions, and her shoes are always comfortable. She has pale golden skin and deep brown eyes. Her hair is curly but not wild and a dark brown. She has excellent posture and she's probably one of those people who can carry books on their head.
At some point Lorena’s walking began to feel heavy, her eyes felt heavy too and she felt sluggish. Maybe she was tired? Time to head back to the apartments if that was the case. Unfortunately, she was in so deep into the casino that she had no idea where the exits where and even a she moved around, leaning on the wall for support, her vision became blurry and she couldn’t make anything out. She couldn’t cry out for help before stumbling to the ground and everything went out. Lorena had no idea what happened to her during this time, but when she woke up panic gripped her.
She listened to the man’s spiel but couldn’t utter a single word out. She was stunned, this couldn’t be happening right?! She knew she should never have left the apartments! What was wrong with her?? Now she was stuck in this horrible, horrible place and Hurby probably was too! As if things couldn’t get worst she was given someone to save, a woman and a man. Lorena didn’t know who to pick, they both looked terrified out of their minds. Still, a lot of the men back at the apartments seemed to be doing good for themselves, this one would be fine on his own right?
Lorena also felt she could sue a lady friend and so she picked the woman. It’s hard for her to watch the young man getting dragged away, Lorena looks away but still glimpses into the room. She doesn’t want to know what’s in there, doesn’t want to question it. All she wants to do is go back home and avoid this whole experience, ever. Once released Lorena is so sure she will leave, she expresses this to the young woman just before she is dragged away.
Lorena stares at the empty space where the woman had been standing. Oh god, they’d never be able to leave here alive.

Lorena looked out across the casino floor to all the people; it had lost its glitz and glamour now. She could see it for what it really was, everyone’s personal hell.
