The feeling of being on a ship rocking back and forth had faded away after a day; even the scars of where she had been injured had dissipated for the most part. It was an odd feeling, even more odder than feeling ill but slowly Harper was realizing that asking a lot of questions wasn’t going to help her a whole lot. If she wanted answers it was better to just keep her head low and her ears listening. Her body felt as if it had been awake longer, as if she had spent less minutes trying to nap but she chalked it up to all of the work she had done the day before.
Heading towards the library a sound tore through the air, as she stood completely still. Her first thoughts were that the building was going to collapse, or maybe something had exploded in some far off distance. Heading to a space that she could the night sky, lights flickered in the distances. Another roar sounded as the sound of faint crinkling as multiple colors fluttered through the darken sky.
Fireworks.
It eventually fizzled away; Harper grabbed her jersey and like many of the other confused university members headed towards the source of the noise. Maybe someone had been using them as flares? She thought completely confused why anyone would create so much noise to attract the undying. Drawing close to the noise she froze in front of the over sized building. Lights ranging in various colors flashed giving off the illusion of too many Christmas trees lit up at once. It hurt to look at it too long, as she shielded her eyes for a moment.
“Delta Casino?” It didn’t sound familiar, but all of the lights and noise and yet the undying didn’t seem to be flocking to overrun it. She walked forward, the warm inviting lights, and the promise of food and drinks, it was hard not to at least explore.

Entering pass the doors, the bitter smell of smoke and alcohol mingled in the air reminding Harper of old days of college parties. Everyone was dressed, some in nicer clothes than most playing cards or sitting in front of a brilliantly lit slot machine. It looked almost as if the entire world outside the doors didn’t exist, that they didn’t have to be concerned with electricity, the undying, and apparently food or drinks. A waiter paused holding out a glass of some sort of mixed drink while another handed her a handful of chips. Without hesitation she picked it up downing it in one go before looking around. She had never been inside of a casino, never had the free money to simple spend it on whatever she wanted.
The first thing she was going to try was the slot machines.
Sitting down Harper pulled the lever, the rolls of lights flashing as the rolled past the screen finally stopping a set of numbers. A pair of matching threes flashed and two coins dropped out.
“Whoo hoo, a win.” She yelled before shrinking down and covering her mouth. It wasn’t really much of a win but it was rather exciting to win something.
Second round of pulling the lever, the numbers flashed and then stopped. Nothing came out of the slot as Harper pouted. It didn’t cost her anything but still she wanted to win something again.
The third round the little wheels spun inside and stopped, leaving the four as s set of matching numbers. Two more coins dropped out as Harper quickly scooped them up and got off the stool. It was fun, but with all the sounds and people she wanted to see what else was around.
The feeling of rocking back and forth on a ship started to return slowly to her feet as she tried to walk over to the poker table. Maybe she hadn’t healed as much as she thought.

There more faces, more drinks, more smoke filling her head as Harper kept wandering the casino floor. It was fun, not losing money while being able to join in on the fun of a casino. It started to feel hot though, like the smoky air was slowly closing in as sometimes the faces started to blur together. A waiter passed by holding out another glass of drink but Harper pushed it away. Too much, taking a few slow steps forward, she was too drunk she thought looking for somewhere to sit down. Reaching it she sat down leaning against whatever hard surface was close to it, closing her eyes and drifting off.
---
Voices muffled as Harper tried to open her heavy eyes, her body ached worse than it had from the explosion the other day. Where was she? She could remember the casino floor, the stool, the slowly drifting off. Fallen off? No she was sitting, still sitting but it was wrong.
The lights came on, bright and blinding as she tried to look away. Her arms were stiff as she tried to wiggle her fingers before realizing they were bound. So were her legs, tightly as she struggled to loosen its tight grip. A voice spoke, no boomed over their heads, she wasn’t alone in the room there were others bound as well to their chairs. Somewhere vaguely familiar while others, others wore the same horrified look on their faces. Some tried to turn around, to look for the voice speaking but the ropes were too tight, Harper sat there gritting her teeth as wanted to rock the chair over onto it side. Someone was sobbing as the man mentioned purchasing; they were to purchase themselves if they wanted to escape.
Glaring Harper started to open her mouth, she wanted answers, demands, and how could they pull this s**t? Who the ******** held did they think they were? The voice spoke before she could, her lips pulled back in a grimace as the answer was given as if he already knew. Men entered and pulled the victims in chairs out one by one into another new smaller room than before.
The smaller room as more than Harper could handle, she tried shifting her weight back and forth as two people where lead in front of them. A look of horror and guilt appeared on Harper’s face as she had to pick, pick just one to survive. Or at least maybe survive.
The woman. The man started to struggle, blood filled the air as someone had cut him, doing what they could to keep him contained. When they dragged him away Harper glanced down at the ground, his screams kept echoing in her head as the look of terror on his face was burned forever in her memory. There was another room, but she didn’t want to know, her imagination knew better than to ask.
The next room was even smaller, with a set of sinks for her and her new called friend where allowed to wash up. Harper rubbed her wrist as she tried to offer the other woman a faint smile as she thanked her; anything to reassure that Harper wasn’t going to ******** the entire thing up. A group of men entered the room, grabbing the woman before she could even reach for her hands.
A new door opened.

Walking though Harper noticed she was back at the casino floor. There were still people playing, but she couldn’t help but notice now the men standing around, the guards, the lights, the obvious signs that something wasn’t entirely right. Anger, she was so stupid she thought, not realizing it before. Instead she let the excitement the lights, the seemingly free game to play to forget the world outside get to her and now she was screwed. So much hate, hate for the sicko who thought this was fun, and hate for how much of a fool she was.
