User ImageThe crunch of the forest floor beneath cloven gold hooves, seemed deafening to Vapors ears, as the only sound in the awkward silence. Behind him, tiny footsteps shuffled to keep up with him. Bead sized glowing eyes, rolled back in their dark shadowy sockets. A young father, but not a concerned one. No glance was sparred back to the one that followed, to make sure it was well. Showing concern, or care, a foreign concept. One that he found aggravating. To be fair, Vapor found annoyance in just about anything.

"Keep up. You are slowing me down." Oh, but that voice could not lie as much as he wanted to. There lay a hint of affection, in his moody tone. Only those who knew him well, could hear the difference in his dialect.

"Twerp." he scoffed, as it yes sir'd him and skipped to his side. A sir, he wasn't, nor did he like the term. Yes sir.. If only he could teach it to not use such nice and proper words. In order to do that, he would have to care enough to father it and teach it to be more like him. That wasn't going to happen.

Vapor sighed, feeling burdened. How he ended up getting stuck with a runt like it following him around, he didn't know! Never had he done anything to earn its affection, yet here it was. Following him to who knows where. Vapor had wanted to get away from those he kept company with. This spawn of his, kept to him more than his own shadow if ever he tried to wander. Vapors tail flicked about in growing annoyance.

Resurrection watched her fathers shape bob up and down in front of her. A root that had broke from the earth, caught one of her hooves, near bringing her tumbling to the ground. The small filly didn't cry out in pain, but regained her footing. Her father, didn't even notice her spill. Eyes like her fathers eyes, blinked back tears that tried to urge their way out. No. Her father needed her to be strong. He didn't need to care for her, she would care for him! Vapors words barked in her ear, and she startled at the sound. Res let herself fall behind, and now he was scolding her for it! She tried her best to keep up with him, spindly legs having to move three times as fast as his. "Yes sir!" she replied, as she jogged to bridge the small gap between them.

Even at her young age, Resurrection knew that her father needed support from those around him. The fact that he couldn't kill his own game to feed himself was one thing, yes. Res had a deep resolve to care for her fathers emotions. There in his mind, lived complex emotions. Ones she felt nobody truly could see. However, Res could see those emotions. It made her feel empowered when around him, and want to care for him. Loneliness, abandonment, fear, and even love. There were so many colorful emotions, that he simply bottled up inside, and choose not to share with anyone, even himself. This, was part of her life's purpose. She just knew it! He needed her more than anything, even if he would never embrace her, and show as much.

Twerp.. she grinned so big at the word. Res could tell he was feeling insecure in his emotions towards her, and needed to assert his emotions was something hateful sounding. Man did she see right through his lies! She had to stifle her breath to stop a giggle of joy, lest he find out that she's on to him! Instead, the filly of all wing and bone, glided beside him in self enjoyed glee. See? He did need her. Part of Res, needed him too. This, was a daddy's girl. He may not of hung the moon, but if she could pluck it from the sky and give it to him, she would.

The beginnings of family bonds, already strong and playing an important role on the growth of her soul. Every soul around her, played a part in the intricate web of her life, branching out more and more, as she got to know them better. Family is all she would ever need! At least, this was what her young heart told her.

User ImageVapor stopped walking, coming to a small rocky hill that dead ended their current trail. Looking down at the life that had followed in tow, he studied it.

How the fates had changed for this, the Soquili who never let anyone in. Never had a family, never had a friend. Never had a marefriend, and definitely never expected to ever have a kid. Yet, there it was. There is no mistake that this is his. The matching colors, the short spunky hair, the markings on its face, and those eyes. Those were his eyes, looking back at him. Yet somehow, they shone brighter than his.

Vapor noticed the sun kissed glow in the things cheeks. Not only that, it was grinning, and wiggling its bony butt about. Aww crap! What now?! Why was it so...happy. Vapors chin shoved down into his neck, as he leaned away, as if in horror. Yet, his face only showed partial displeasure. Why did it do that?!

"Stop that!" Vapors chin popped back out, to bark at it. His lips curled out, and his eyebrows framed his serious eyes. Though, emotion is hard to read, with eyes like these."I said stooop damnit!" Vapor insisted, as he pushed the things wings over its face with his horn and head, forcefully trying to hide that jubilant expression. He held those wings over that face, till he heard a giggle. The tinkling sound of that laughter, causing him to let go and jump back. UGH. NOT COOL. Vapor stormed off, stage left. This time, at a faster pace than before.

Leave it behind, let it get lost for all I care!

Watching her father, watching her hooves. Watching her father, watching her hooves. She didn't want to trip again, but she couldn't help but stare up at him as they proceeded. Resurrection quickly halted, when he did.

A curious little face cocked to the side. He was looking at her! Not once since basket emergence, had he stopped to look at her. Anytime he looked her way, it was as if he was looking through her, rather than at her. Res could see, that he was seeing her, as his daughter, for the first time. See our similarities! I love you Daddy, can you see that too? Res smiled a gentle smile. She felt she might burst, the whole moment blanketing over her and causing her to feel warm. Res was so excited for him to be truly looking at her, that her energy bubbled out. The long soft fibers of her tail, began to twitch back and forth. That adorable, happy wiggle, of her small blue rump.

What happened next, could not have been expected. Her dad rushed to her, and began to fold her wings up over her face. He was less than delicate about it. It made her think of her sister, Adoration, and the moments she would hide under her wings. This would be a story she would have to share with her!

Resurrection never received cuddles, or hugs from her dad. This was as close as he had got to her! Even though he folded her few of her wings in an uncomfortable way, she couldn't help but revel in the moment. Thin lips soft white lips, let loose a giggle. Res knew the instant she had laughed, that the moment would be over. Sure enough, Dad jumped back like a deadly serpent had been placed before him. Adjusting her wings and long pinion back into place, she watched as her father quickly moved away from her.

Even though the moment they shared ended with him being angry at her, Res had no sadness. Instead, she felt she learned even more, about her fathers emotions. Boy was he mad though! Res understood this too. He wasn't mad at her. He was mad at the feelings he couldn't express or understand, that clouded his mind. It's okay Daddy, I'll still follow you. Res did her best to run and catch up with him.

User ImageVapor continued to storm off. He sucked his teeth when he heard it follow. Ugh! Cloven gold hooves stomped through the soft ground even harder. Dirt kicked up behind him in clods, as the blue and pink feathers over his hooves soiled to muddy brown. No, he didn't quicken his pace, but instead, stomped off like and adolescent. Into the forest deeper he went, paying no mind to the direction he was heading.

Vapor mumbled and cussed under his breath in hushed angry whispers, directed at no one in particular. Vapors anger venting off in words no child should ever hear. He lashed his tail out intentionally, feeling the thing might be close. If he hit it, it mattered not to him.

All that stomping was causing quite the scene. As he trod over a rabbits shallow burrow, it darted out to escape the rubble that fell on its head. Vapor jumped and snagged a wing on a low lying branch. The furry white rabbit, scurried under his feet, doing it's best to avoid being stomped on. Vapor lifted his hooves each time the rabbit got near, trying his best not to step on it.

The rabbit made an exit out the back of his legs, and headed straight towards the other one.

Resurrection Sinclair would not stop her pursuit! That frail blue chest heaved, and her heart pounded, as she ran to catch up to Vapor. A fluster of feathers rustling at her sides. Keeping all three sets of wings folded, and her pinion, something she still needed to perfect. There is only so much of her body to press them against, and more wing than filly.

As she ran to catch up to him, she failed to watch the ground below her. Her front ankle caught a second root that had broke from the earth, causing her to stumble once again. Pain shot up her leg, but she pressed on. She was almost there! She would not stop now.

Res huffed as she closed the gap between them. Stamina didn't come easily to her, given her petite size. The runt of a litter always has to struggle more than the other siblings. Good thing he didn't get further away, or she would of lost him from her inability to run any further.

When she was just about at his feet, she smirked as he lashed out with his tail. She wasn't that close. Not just yet. If he had hit her, it wouldn't of hurt her feelings.

A rabbit! She sucked in a deep breath, and black eyes went wide, with the sun of her father shining bright in its middle. Her pace slowed as she watched the gentle pure rabbit dance under her fathers feet. She blinked at the scene. The masked white and purple face, fell to one side, as she watched on.

Oh! But the rabbit now changed direction, and was coming straight for her! Under her feet it tried to go, but the clearance was not as great as the previous soquili it was under. A sense of duty clicked in Resurrections head. All the times she had watched her mothers provide food for her father, and the stories of how he couldn't provide food for himself!

Resurrection skipped about on top of the rabbit, trying to grab it, with a hoof, a leg, her mouth, something! She had it, then she didn't. Had it almost again, as she pawed after it frantically with her front hooves. Her spindly little legs not having the strength to hold it in place. Under hoof, she had it again, and as it started to slip out, she yelped and reached for the back of it's neck.

There. It could not get away now. With two legs wrapped over it, and her mouth locked tight, she had it at the moment. Resurreciton huffed from the sides of her mouth, full on exhausted from the catch. The adrenaline coursing through her veins, caused her to tremble and shake.

As she sat there with the rabbits life in her possession, tears began to stream from her face. The emotions of duty, love, and impending death, causing her to feel sadness for the first time. As the sadness washed over her, she wept. Tears trailed down to the fur of the rabbit. This sadness was not one for the life of the rabbit, she felt she needed to take. It was as if she felt it's lifeforce, here at end of all things it knew. In her mind, she began talking to it, forgetting for the moment, of the father that stood watching her.

Thank you for living, and being here, so that my father might live. Your life, full of innocence, will not be one lived in vain. You will go on to a greater place, and breath in The Light. Welcome it, as death welcomes you.

After she had her breath, she rolled to her side, still clutching the rabbit, and thrust at it violently with her back legs. As her hooves landed tiny blows on the rabbit, it began to move about frantically. Even with her kicking it as hard as she could, the rabbit did not pass on to The Light.

Res pinned the moving rabbit with her front legs again, pushing her chest on top of it to re-grip it with her tiring mouth. Please, accept your fate. The tears still fell.

Res tried to twist the neck of the rabbit, but lacked the force to snap it. She could do this. She needed to do this. Gold coins searched the ground and forest for answers. There had to be a way. Those eyes fell upon a rock sticking out of the brush. Using her hoof, she dug around it, clearing it from the forest floor. Res then began to beat the rabbit against the jagged rock.

It seemed to take years, for it to succumb to it's fate... By the time the deed was done, Resurrection had made a gruesome scene. Tears and blood stained her face and mouth, and had splattered into her white hair. She let the body of the rabbit slip from her mouth, and shuttered at the sensation of the warm blood body slipping from her tongue. Meat was not in her diet, and her stomach knotted a thousand times over, from the taste in her mouth.

There, move into the Light. Your path is now found in the afterlife. Thank you for your sacrifice. she thought as she smiled down at the lifeless rabbit.

She blinked through sweat, tears, and blood, looking for her father. Vapor was still there. She smiled at him and felt a cold chill come over her. She had done it. She had provided for him, in a way that for her, sealed her bond to him for life. Res could do this. She could provide food for him. I will always be there for you. Her white eyebrows lifted, as her smiled deepened. Even if Vapor wasn't proud of her, Resurrection was proud of herself.

User ImageVapor stood, dumbfounded as he watched the events unfold over the next few minutes. He turned around, watching as it scrambled to find a hoof-hold on the rabbit he had startled from its burrow. What exactly it was doing, he just didn't know. He furrowed his eyebrows, one rising higher than the other, upon the realization, that the thing was trying to kill the rabbit. But why? He shook his main and snorted, still confused by the events taking place before him. With his size, he could of easily killed the rabbit in an instant. But he couldn't. Something embedded in his DNA, prevented him from killing. So he could only watch on. It kicked, it thrashed, then it beat the rabbit on the rock. The gruesome end scene, one he had not seen take place with Arcadia before. Her kills were swift, and merciful. Where as this thing seemed to struggle to make its kill, yet never gave up trying.

Now it stood there. The crying had ended. Vapor looked on, darting his eyes about as he searched for reason inside his head. Had this been for him? His face scowled at the thought. Surely not. Vapor hoofed at the ground and snuffed as it looked up at him, painted in blood. It smiled up at him, a warm smile, toned in red. Waiting to see what it would do next. Perhaps it had developed a taste for meat after all, and would eat the rabbit.

Res wiggled her little rump up at her dad. "Eat silly, while it's still warm." She leaned over and nudged the rabbit towards him. The look on his face, and his actions, told her that he was still unsure what to expect from all this. He knew what this was, she just had to confirm it for him. Come, tuck in to the life I ended, so that yours may keep going on. She grinned with her teeth, happy go lucky again, now that she had succeeded.

She skipped out of the way, as Vapor hesitantly walked over to the rabbit. Boy, was she a site for sore eyes. She looked down at her ankle, that was covered in her own blood. The pain now returning. Oops... Guess she had hit that root harder than she thought while coming here. A small price paid, for the prize that she had obtained.

Plopping down on the ground, she licked at her ankle, trying to dull the throbbing pain. Not wanting to watch as her father dined on the once white rabbit.

User ImageVapor grunted. lowering his chin in the direction of the rabbit. His stomach growled at the site, and his mouth salivated. Sure, he could eat. But don't call him silly... Carefully he walked over to the rabbit, as if the thing that killed it might bite him.

Picking up the rabbit in his jowls, he worked to skin it. After he began to eat the small game.

This had been provided by her, his daughter.. For the first time, he admitted to what she was. Not an it, or some thing that bobbed after him. She was his, in more ways than he could try to deny. He flared his nostrils and huffed.
"Quit that damn licking, or you'll make it worse."

No, not a thank you. Instead he barked at her for licking her wound. In that instance though, he not only noticed that she was injured, but he showed concern for her. Not that she expected him to realize or understand such a monumental change in the way he acted towards her. Resurrection noticed though. She sighed while closing her eyes, letting the moment sink in. Lifting her chin up to the sky, she silently reflected on the revelation, that her father had somehow accepted her. If all it took was the death of one rabbit, or even a thousand, than it was worth every drop of blood. If it made him accept her, then the price was not too high. Accept her in his own way at least. She didn't expect him to be all lovey and nice.

She grinned and breathed a quiet laugh as she opened her eyes again. Trying her best not to make things awkward like last time, she avoided eye contact as she enjoyed her moment.

She would remember this for the rest of her life.
