Ritsa's shoulders sagged, the news of Becky's death weighed quite heavily on her heart. Becky was young, and while she didn't know her all that well she knew it had a profound effect on them as a group. Ritsa ignored the noises around her, and the strange voices that came from the radio she had picked up. It sounded like a family argument and she wanted no part of that bickering nonsense, she did however want to check out shoppers though no one seemed interested in going with her didn't her credentials mean anything!?
Sighing Ritsa gave Jeff a sad look before rising from her stool and leaving the winchester for the moment. She was going to hit the arcade tonight, give her something to take her mind off things. Perhaps there was something in there she could use to help perfect her aim. Maybe. She hadn't actually been to the arcade yet. Most of her time had been spent either hanging out in the winchester listening for information or doing perimeter checks around the mall. She had even tried to go around mapping the various places and how safe or dangerous they were but that seemed out of the realm of possibility for her to do alone.
Leaving the winchester Ritsa took the first right and aimed towards the arcade. Her eyes shifted from one store sign to the next as she passed them, until she stepped foot into the arcade. The sound of chimes bells and her fellow mall rats shouting were all distractions to Ritsa. There didn't seem to be many games currently open for anyone to play there was one however Ritsa figured could prove beneficial. A First Person Shooter called Undying House The Third, Part Four, The Beginning of the End!. Even the name gave the woman chills as she stared at the screen. Her fingers picking up the attached fun and controller. Her eyes focused as her eyes watched the game kick up into it's first screen mode.
The opening was horrific, as she would have expected from a game with a title like this. Taking a deep breath as the 'please insert coin' appeared on the title screen. Nodding Ritsa pulled out a coin and slipped it into the machine. Her body tensed as the opening continued from that frozen point. Showing bodies and figures of people blowing out their own brains. Skeletons with a single eye that seemed to watch them.
Then it formed into a group of people trying to hold a group of zombies at bay, gunshots were heard and Ritsa swallowed as the opening scene rolled on. "Avoid all contact with infected individuals. Wait for official instructions." Ritsa winced at the voices in the game. "This used to be a nice neighborhood. Well this is some s**t we got ourselves into. Why the hell does an evac station have 35 flights of stairs?"
Ritsa tuned out the rest of the opening as she lifted the gun to the scene. Before she knew it the game had kicked into motion. A few simple instructions flashed on the screen. She felt a sinking in her stomach like this was some foreshadowing of their own future. Her first play around had Ritsa on the edge of her gun. Her aim was terrible and she couldn't hit anything. Having died a horrible death with a hoard of crazed zombies released by some man who had trapped them in a room.
Grunting Ritsa thrust another coin into the machine. Watching as the play through went again towards the loading screen and opening sequence. She was a little more prepared this time, reaching the same point she had died previously and this time with more health than before. Feeling confident Ritsa pushed on into the game. A few more moments and her bad aim landed a kill. Only for her own death to come at her.
Her fingers twitched on the now sweaty controller, running her fingers through her greasy hair Ritsa paused to give her dirty hands a look. What she wouldn't give for a relaxing hot bubble bath right about now. Blinking as the screen returned to asking for another coin, Ritsa pushed the final one for the day into the slot. She didn't want to linger in a depressing game like this as it only reminded her of the reality she was currently in. She had never dreamed that fantasies could be a reality at some point. They had always been safe daydreams. ones were she was in control of what happened, and never once had she died in her own daydreams. Lifting her fun to the screen again Ritsa flinched as she remembered Becky.
This play through was better than her second attempt gaining herself two kills this time instead of the one. It was as if she was improving with each attempt. Fitting the gun shaped plastic item into it's slot Ritsa sighed and turned away from the game. She only hoped she didn't end up dead any tie soon.
