Needing a break from activities here and there, near and far, Lease made her way to the arcade that was finally back to being open. A lot of the games didn't seem all that appealing to her, having never played one of these types of games in her life. Joysticks and big buttons pads seemed difficult and the ticketed games seemed like they would probably be missing pieces. (Well, maybe she'd check them out later if she had time).
Lease found it ironic, maybe, that the game she found herself in front of - and the one she had overheard about - was about zombies. The current conspiracy they were trying to push upon them. Or, well, for the last month. The girl scoffed as she read the rest of the long winded title but went up to it anyways and picked up the gun accessory.
It seemed easy enough, just aim and shoot. She leveled the gun, closed one eye and looked through the little scope thing on the top and fired away. Beginner's luck had its play with her first game, as she managed to hit four of them.
It would have been game over in most places, or she would have needed to insert more change but for some reason - she wasn't going to ask or complain - the game still just wanted to keep on going with no incentive. Lease shrugged and pressed the button on the front and then shot at the start menu to keep it going.
This turned to be one of the few times she actually tried, she waited too long on a few of them or attempted some little maneuver with the gun.
Attempts at gaining some serious gun toting skills didn't seem to be doing the trick this time around. Beginner's luck really had snuck up on her or something.
Lease tapped at the button again and for the last time set to aim at something, this time the start button. So, as the zombies crawled and jumped at her on the screen, she shot wildly and without much purpose. Bullets went flying, she had to reload way too many times this time around and the undead beat her to the punch.
One more round, she told herself, raising the gun for another turn. This time she tried to clear her head and get back into the state of mind that she had for the first round. Was she angry? (Probably) or maybe she was just in a weird state of limbo.
Her mood bounced a bit as she tried to settle what she had been thinking. Somewhere in there she had figured it out, since she got a shot.
Granny rolled in. "Alright time for more target practice. I got to get my shooting up. If I'm going out there again, we will need all the practice we can get."
when she walked in she spotted someone already there. "Oh hey youngen. Are you blowing off some steam?" they should be out looking for supplies or something, granny was sure. But target practice was just as important. (or rather enjoying the last bit of electricity while it is still on. Who knows how long that will last. Who knew how long they would last once it was out.)
Granny walked over and picked up a gun, pushing in the tokens. "I gotta get me some tickets. Costumes are important after all. I've been eyeing one, saving up. Is there one you like?"
Granny casually picked off 6 zombies in quick succession. Because she was good at this sort of thing, that's why.

It wasn't like she had taken claim on the game or anything, in fact she had even put the gun down as if ready to leave. But the moment the older woman appeared, Lease found herself going on the defensive about it. She almost wanted to shoo her away and refrain from answering her about her objective at the arcade. Granny was stared down.
Until she got to shooting. Lease's eyes went wide, "ho' s**t." And then regretted speaking. Her jaw still hurt and her hand went to cradle it in her hands to keep it from moving a little bit too much.
So this woman had drunk the koolaid about the costumes, it seemed. Well, she couldn't maybe blame her with her old age, maybe it was just easy for her to give into the idea that it was what they needed to do. Or since she was old, just decided to ******** it all and act immature. She wasn't going to ask. She just shrugged about the costumes question. It wasn't like she had looked into it. In fact, she hadn't found her current one until she actually went in. (She just wanted new clothes).
Granny played another round and then snipped off 4 more. "Oh? I played often to relive the boredom once Charles die. I had a lot more time with him gone, and only myself to clean up after. I'm getting pretty decent if I do say so myself. Though honestly, I do think the cape is giving me a bit of a boost." she winked at Lease.
"It looks like your jaw is hurting though. did you get it in the fight? I do recommend the costumes. They make me feel awesome at least." she flapped her superman cape.
Granny didn't make any comment about the curse, first of all, it was a good kind of curse, and second... Anyone who lived this long in this hell hole could say what they wanted. One of the perks of surviving.

3-4. two kills, good job! 2. One kill. Not bad! 3-4. two kills, good job!
Gretel casually walked into the Arcade for some entertainment, the noises drew her attention to the shooting game. She got closer and grabbed the gun next to the granny and the girl, she remembered she earned a knife as her weapon. Talking about zombie games, she didn't think she would lose to them.
The chatter sound told her that they were in a conversation, the grey eyes calmly took a quick glance at the pair before snapped her focus back to the starting game. Boom boom! The gun moved swiftly to take down one by head and another at chest. This easy game worked on easy basis, as long as you shoot the targets, they're down. The video one was much harder, they count on precision over the head, if you don't shoot the head, they would continue to go for you.
"Five...." she mused, not a bad result, but she wasn't so satisfied.

The name Charles earned a puzzled look from Lease until she worked it out in her head that it was someone from Granny's life before. She didn't question it, not just because of her inability to talk a lot but mostly because she didn't really care. It was kind of awesome that this woman decided not to become a shriveled member of society after her loved one died though.
"Figh' a'.. zone..." She told the woman as she continued to be impressed, and a little bit intimidated, but her skills at the game.
The pair of them were then joined by a somewhat unfamiliar face. The silver haired girl had been easy to spot in a crowd and seen in one from time to time, but Lease honestly couldn't say she knew the girl very well. She was a little quiet and well.. the teenager had tried to remain as secluded as she could for the better part of the month. (That hadn't worked out too well, she needed food after a while and it got boring).
".. wha'?!" Lease's hands flailed slightly when she saw the score that the new girl had managed. Something it took her in more than two turns! When the gun found its way back into the holster, Lease wasted no time in grappling back control of it and trying her hand at this again. How were they so good at this?! How frustrating. Despite the pain, she grit her teeth and squared her shoulders, attempting to channel the two (without looking like she was) and tried again.
And finally managed to hit more than one or two things. "Hah!"
Tumblr probably wouldn't advocate her use of a gun, even in a video game. But ******** it.

"Oh nice job Gracy!" Granny said to Gretel. It was Gracy right? Or Gretchen... Granny couldn't remember which. She struggled with names. "5 is a good number. You'll be killing them left and right on the battle field. How are you doing hun? Did you get any injuries too?"
"Oiy, nice Leasa. 6 is good. you are giving me a real run for my money here. let me just..." Granny took her turn next.
Ooops kids were distracing, only 3 kills this time when Granny took her turn. no matter. she shrugged. "At least I got a few before I went down." she threw up a hand and waved it off.

6. Wow, you got three kills! Nice! 1. You get no kills. 2. One kill. Not bad!
The eyes shifted to Lease who was obviously frustrated by her score, this game was rather easy, she guessed if the girl concentrated more, she would get a higher score. As she expected, her next round was much better, from her cheerful short laugh.
Gretel was shooting in full attention when the Granny started talking, one, two, three went down and when she aimed for the forth, her hand slipped. "It's Gretel." She corrected her. Gracy was the name of her nasty roommate and she frowned at herself being so easily affected. Out of frustration, she shot the last one on its head, blood splashed all over the screen. "Not bad. Ears got buzzed by bullet, other than that, it's fine."
She remembered the girl though, and pretty sure her name wasn't Leasa. Leiah had introduced her when they met, the two stores were not far from each other. "Bother to have another round?" Gretel rarely suggested to her. It would be good to train her eyes more because of her hearing problem. It still hurt from time to time, but there was no doctors in the mall for a proper check up.
Lease felt as smug as a bug - wait, that didn't sound right, whatever - from her higher score that round. Her confidence and pride sated, she watched the others with a grin on her face; and was a little pleased it didn't hurt to smile that hard now.
"Can do 'nother." If she kept this rate up, she could go on for a while. It was better than being stuck in the zone where the circus seemed to be in town, what with disappearing creature things and bullets flying. (Even if it meant staying in the mall which they'd been cooped up for a month).
Seemed like a lose-lose really if you thought about it. Lease sighed at the notion and raised the gun again and fired for her turn. She managed four this time.
