Athletic Egg - this moderately sized egg sits towards the front of the clutch, not because it demands attention but because it is eager to meet everyone. And meet everyone equally, to boot - every person it encounter is treated with the same thoughtful, if energetic, response.

Seething Egg - this egg, average in size and located off to the right, is a seething mass of emotions, though a certain dauntlessness is foremost of all. Whatever dragon is in this egg is not to be tamed, its sharp-witted reactions sometimes surprising the candidates that touch it.

The Rumbling Egg - This medium to small sized egg sits towards the back of the clutch. It gives candidates who touch it the sensation of... weight? Pressure? It feels as though something huge is lying dormant, watching and waiting for the moment it can emerge. Timid candidates who linger more than a few moments will feel as though their hands are beginning to burn!

The Clawed Egg - This medium sized egg sits off to the side of the main group of its siblings, leaning up against the larger Twining Egg. This is one spiky egg! When a candidate touches it their mind will be flooded with a surge of hot angry adrenaline a feeling of 'oh yea? Come get it then!' This seems to be directed at the Twining Egg rather than the candidates themselves though. When it notices that candidates are visiting it, it greets those with good hearts - those who look out for the greater good - with a surge of approval.

The Twinging Egg - Though this is the largest egg in the clutch experienced candidates would probably only rate it 'medium large' overall. It sits slightly to the side of the main group of eggs leaning against its sibling the Clawed Egg. When a candidate touches the shell they will instantly be struck by a feeling of cool, haughty superiority... though not directed at them? Indeed the egg spares very little attention for candidates, though if it bothers to look it approves of ambition and intelligence. Mostly however it seems intent on staring down its sibling.

Killakeeth's clutch was a bit of an odd one this time... Eggs usually varied in colour and pattern but every single egg was of the same colour and varied only slightly in its spotted, speckled patterning. The dragonhealers had no idea why this might be so, but Killakeeth seemed fine with her clutch and they seemed to be maturing just fine... leading to the conclusiong that Killakeeth was simple prone to strange clutches.

Which, of course, had lead to the Weyr gossiping about the eggs' contents. The sizes of the eggs were varied, true, but with no gold egg, it was difficult to settle on any specific colour to bet on... or identify the eggs.

When the Touching was called, the Candidatemaster and the Assistants were on hand to shuffle the Candidates out onto the sands where they could investigate these oddities and, perhaps, get a preview of their possible bonded. As always, the instructions were short and to the point: touch the eggs but dont linger, bow to the queen, and be both quiet and polite.

OOC Note

All PC Assistant Candidatemasters, Killakeeth/rider, and other PCs are welcome to attend, though only Candidates, A. Candidatemasters, and Killakeeth and her rider are allowed on the Sands.

Vosin was dressed nicely today. It was time for the candidates to officially meet the eggs. She was looking forward to the touching almost as much as Killa and the candidates. The rider took a certain pride in her dragon's unusual clutches. The betting was intense when people could make up their minds about the eggs. In a way it was almost fun to confuse everyone.

She stood to the side of the lounging gold dragon. Several of these candidates she'd searched herself. So it interested her greatly to see who impressed.

The mother of the clutch rested easily with her forelegs crossed daintily. Her neck arched proudly as she watched the candidates approach. Reminded by her rider, she too took interest in those candidates who she'd picked out.

She was slowly settling in. Thankfully this weyr was much like her old home. Except it had a lot more dragons. She glanced around for Kitchi among the candidates. This was her first Touching, and she wasn't sure what to make of all this. Litaidar stood back from the eggs as she listened to the instructions on what to do. Simple enough. She eyed the clutch of eggs and their golden mother. From what she knew of dragon eggs, they weren't all the same color and pattern. It was odd. It made her wary.

Banashe eyed the eggs greedily. This was the route to quite a bit of prestige if she impressed a dragon. If she could impress then quite a few opportunities would open to her. That was the long term goal. For now, she had to make it through the the touching. She was also looking among the candidates, for her twin. "Octavia," she murmured, "what do you think of those eggs?"

The instructions they'd been given were fairly simple to follow. Respect the gold and mingle among the eggs. Banashe also had one eye on the mother. It wasn't the first time she'd seen her or been in close contact. The dragon and rider looked quite relaxed and at home on the hot sands.

Dazarec
twenty turn old candidate && on the sands

"Alright you can'dites, we got ourselves a touchin' to attend." The voice of his candidate master filled his ears and Dazarec groaned. He'd been called off of duty for the touching, something he'd done many times. How many had it been now? Since he could remember he'd lined up in front of the baby dragons, one by one he'd gone through and touched the eggs. They'd reacted, in some small way to his touch; he'd felt special, ready, desperate as the turns continued onward. Now, here he was again, filing behind the younger candidates towards the Sands. And within their warm depths, he would find the eggs of Gold Killakeeth's clutch. He'd heard they were bizarre looking. He'd heard all sorts of things, but Dazarec was unprepared for the true weirdness of the clutch.

Approaching the sands he kept his hands behind his back, his white robed candidate's uniform billowed out on his arms like sails. Blinking, he looked down at his feet as they approached the warmth of the dragon's clutch. How many times have I been here? How many times will I put myself through this on the off-chance that maybe I'll be accepted? He wondered bitterly in his mind as he glanced towards the candidate master. Blah, blah, blah. As if the classes they'd been given hadn't taught them all about that stuff; they were to bow to the Queen, a sign of respect for allowing them to touch her eggs. Some queens, he'd heard, had been very protective of their eggs. He hoped Killakeeth was not overly protective.

Blinking, he looked to the gold now, pulled his right arm from behind his back and flamboyantly crossed it in front of his midriff before bowing at the waist and lowering his balding head. After a moment, he lifted his head slightly and offered a pleasant smile to the queen before shyly rising to his full height. Looking towards Banashe and Octavia his lips twitched a little in uncertainty. These girls were younger, more free, they didn't have to fear not being chosen this time around. There would be other clutches for them. But, when it came to Dazarec? This would be his last one. He'd age out here.

Sighing nervously, he awaited permission from the Gold to come towards her clutch. Only then would he approach to lightly trace a finger along the edge of the eggs. The first to catch his attention were the pair close together. The Claw Egg and The Twinging Egg. These two eggs seemed to be absorbed in one another; without even giving each other a chance to hatch first. It enticed him to approach them and try to see if he could get something out of them. Anything, a fleeting emotion or a gentle push. He'd accept either, naturally he'd have no choice but to accept that brief interchange. Because he would then be required to walk among the other eggs.

Of course, there were plenty more. The moderate sized Athletic Egg was full of promise. It seemed to be hungry for attention, to be noticed by the candidates who were waiting to touch the eggs. It seemed to desire contact with any of them, if not all of them. It impressed him and made him smile a little. This little one shared his eagerness and that made him feel somewhat better. Soon, these creatures would hatch and they'd find their bonded and the world would continue smoothly forward.

The Seething Egg seemed to exude it's emotions in a turmoil storm. Dazarec could understand that. He felt bad for the dragon inside the egg. He knew what it was like to feel a surge of emotions that one couldn't express in any other way. He knew what it was to be upset by all these thoughts in your head that could not be quenched. Part of the twenty turn old wanted to run to the egg and throw his arms around it and... no, the dragonet's bonded would be the one to do such a thing.

Sighing, he shook his head and looked lastly to the Rumbling Egg. Still, he'd not yet approached any one egg. But it seemed as though the candidate were sizing them up, trying to understand them before he approached. After all, he truly did not want to make a fool of himself. Swallowing though, he looked at the egg towards the back. Interesting enough, he didn't feel any hurry to rush towards this egg and inspect it the way that some others might. It wasn't as though he were scared, simply uncertain.

What is the point in these touching anyways? He wondered briefly to himself. Naturally the candidate masters had drilled it into his head since his arrival as a candidate; but still. Shaking his head carefully he watched uncertainly, waiting for his chance to approach and touch the babies hidden within their hardened shells. Soon. Soon they will hatch. He assured himself and took a deep breath before glancing towards Killakeeth for a clue.

Kalendol
twenty-seven turns && wingrider of dauntless wing && in the stands
dragon: Green Kynigoth

Kalendol had awakened early that morning to the sound of Kynigoth's gentle crooning. 'Mine, the eggs have hardened now. Candidates will be touching today!' The sound of her dragon's crooning voice echoing in her mind had filled her as she rose and began to dress in her best riding leathers and such. Sure, there was work to be done, sure there were things that needed sorting. Whatever, Vosin was a good friend of her's, one of the first people she'd met when she'd joined as a candidate more than ten turns ago. How could she miss today? Killakeeth had been apart of the same clutch as Kynigoth as well; so it was hard to break the closeness. She'd made a point to attend every clutch that Killakeeth had, the touching and hatching if she could.

Now, the woman walked in calmly, looking towards the outer edges where her dragon had taken position, far enough away not to disrupt what was going on. Though, she was close enough for Kalendol to reach if needed. Blinking her hazel hued optics, the young woman sat down in the stands to watch the candidates. Flash backs of her first touching encroached her mind and made her giggle a little pleasantly. She'd touched the Bloodstained Egg, the Shrieking Egg, the Seeking Egg, and the Keep Out Eggs first, just out of curiosity for the younglings inside. It turned out that their reactions to her hadn't been quite the pleasantness she'd been expecting. Ah well. When the time came, the Invasive Egg was the one who'd held her bondmate. 'A good thing you were mine.'

'Of course, mine. I knew it since your toes stepped on the sands. The invasive green sniffed matter-of-factly and Kalendol had a mental image of her dragon's tail twitching. 'Why you didn't feel me calling to you from across the sands at the touching is beyond me. Ah well. You were absorbed with Jamarin.'

It was true, Kalendol had been conversing with Jamarin as they went around and touched the eggs. It was when the dimglow Emmitod had decided to cause trouble with her and Jamarin. The first time she'd ever really spoken to Jamarin. But, it'd hit her that she found his company soothing. He'd even bothered to try and protect her from Emmitod's less than gentlemanly mannerisms. It made her happy.

'Mine?' The green piped in and drowned out Kalendol's memories in a flash. 'Shouldn't you be inspecting the new candidates, mine?' Kynigoth chuckled insensitively and Kalendol sighed. When would her dragon learn?

She glanced towards the candidates, three of them sticking out more to her. Banashe, Octavia, and Dazarec. It'd be amusing to see which of these lucky candidates got a chance to impress a dragonet.

J'nes and brown Hatteth

J'nes would have come to watch the Touching anyway, of course. He may not currently be in charge of the youngsters out on the sands today, but once the eggs hatched, he'd be teaching many of them, so he wanted to get a look at who he might be working with. But this Touching was special to him; this was the first time his own son would be Touching the eggs, in preparation for standing at the upcoming Hatching. And if one of the dragons chose the boy, then he might never Stand again. Since J'nes and his weyrmate hadn't discussed having any other children, this could literally be a once-in-a-lifetime event for him, and there was no way he was going to miss it.

This isn't even the main event, Hatteth pointed out to his rider as he flew into the Hatching Grounds. There is little cause to be so excited.

It's still a milestone for my little boy, J'nes answered cheerfully. He waited until Hatteth folded his wings and crouched, then slid down from his dragon before adding, Besides, I can feel that you're excited, too.

Thee are eggs on the sand, and soon new dragons in the Weyr. Of course I'm excited, his dragon protested. Still, he turned towards the Candidates who were entering the Hatching Grounds instead of studying the clutch.

J'nes actually did the opposite, taking a moment to look over the eggs. They were all nearly identical, with only slight differences in size and pattern. How could anyone tell then apart? Besides their mother, he supposed. Mothers always did have an uncanny way of knowing that sort of thing about their children. And since she was a dragon, perhaps she could more easily feel the small signs of personality that humans could only discover by touching their shells. Speaking of which, it would be interesting to see what kinds of reactions the Candidates gave to these eggs. He settled in to watch their progress.

[Bereck & Berath]

While he was not usually one to attend a Touching this Touching was a little unusual and so he had found the time to tear himself away from work, Alina, and the ancientcrafting hub to observe the event. Bereck not being either working, or with his wife/weyrmate, or tinkering was practically a calender event.

From the Stands he squinted over at the clutch of eggs. Every so often he would mutter something to himself and scribble a note on the sheet of parchment he had with him; it was pinned to a small thin wooden board by means of a couple of metal clips, a handy little design that some bright young ancientcrafter had dreamed up. Amazing the things clever people came up with when all gathered together and given license to just use their brains! He was very happy to be a part of it, kept one's mind agile and....

Oh yes, these strange eggs. So far as he could see from up here all the markings were not similar, no, they looked identical. What did it mean? Did it mean anything? What did an egg's colours usually mean? They... they reflected the dragon within, somehow. It was as though their personalities projected onto the exterior their shell physically as well as through it into a candidate's questing hands? Or was he just making that up because it sounded nice? And these eggs, every one of them the same.... Did they all have something intense in common? If he could possibly do so he intended to quiz some candidates afterwards, see what they made of the experience.

Octavia
14 turns; On the Sands
Candidate in Trine
Oyster Diver/Fisher of Eron Hold

So THIS is what being a candidate was all about? She had recalled during their classes and training to go onto the stands the proper procedures of what she must do and she had never before seen a dragon egg before and now here she was, standing before them and she was amazed. They were rather large, though she suspected they would have to be as they were holding young dragons inside.

Her sister Banashe was at her side and she looked over at her twin and she looked at the eggs again when she made a comment about the eggs. "I honestly think it's so that one isn't favored more than the other. Though I do find it odd that they are all pretty much alike. Maybe it's well suited as you and I look alike and we're about to see if we can impress from these identical eggs." She whispered to her sister. "I think it's going to be a sign of good luck. But now you must go, it's your turn to enter the sands." She said giving her sister a small squeeze on her arm to let her know she'd be with her through the end, no matter what came of this.

So many thoughts were going through her mind. Oh the things that could be accomplished if she were to impress. Not only that but if she were to impress a Gold or even a Crimson. Those were the only two to be able to clutch but the only one that could clutch every time would be a Gold. Crimsons were hit and miss and you could choose a life of fighting thread instead. There were quite a few possibilities that could come from that. She would want to rise up the ranks and be a weyrwoman. She wanted to lead, as she knew her sister did too. But there was much still for her to learn so that goal was still a ways of yet. She'd have to do all the training required of her first in order to get that far. Greens were quite catchy as well to her and the blues, but all in all, if she impressed, she probably wouldn't mind too much of the color. She knew that they would go far, at least she hoped they would.

It was her turn to bow to the Gold, the beautiful Dragon to whom her sister and herself had to thank as without her Banashe wouldn't be here right now with her.

She stepped forward, wearing her best candidate robes she could find and gave a graceful bow to the Gold. "The beauty of this Clutch is beyond words worth saying. But it still pales in comparison to how well you glean under Rukbarts rays." She could say a thing or two and make it sound stunning, she had liked to read every now and again and had picked up knack for making superb compliments.

After she was given the permission to enter the sands she decided she'd go for egg farthest to the right. It also seemed to be the smallest and she honestly believed that size didn't honestly matter too much when it came to the dragons within the eggs. For sometimes large things came from small packages. Carefully she stepped forward, a few curls having escaped her braid and framing her face, and her grey eyes twinkled as she reached out her hand to touch the surface of the Athletic Egg and felt the energetic and somewhat thoughtful emotion thread through her and she smiled and wondered what kind of dragonet would come from this egg. Surely it would be a livewire of sorts. She removed her hand and gave it a smile and headed onward.

She touched each of the other eggs as she made her way Seething Egg and she admired it for a moment before reaching out her hand to see what kind of dragonette might be held within it's shell. The second her hand touched the shell she almost laughed, it remaindered her so much of her sister and even herself. This dragon was going to be a handful. She could only imagine how it would grow. This dragon was destined for great things, or possibly trouble depending on the rider who was to impress from this egg. Oh yes, this egg was unique indeed. You will go far. She thought to the egg and removed her hand and headed onwards.

As she brushed her hands against the other eggs she finally came to the Rumbling Egg and looked at it for a moment. She wondered what was in store for this dragons future. She reached out her hand and touched the egg and at first she thought that her hand might be warm but it was replaced with a pressure feeling, almost as if something was feeling contained and ready to explode from within. There wasn't much more to the feelings she got from the egg and she was anxious now to see what might come from this particular egg.

The Clawed Egg was her next egg to come to and when she touched it she was instantly filled with large amounts of energy and it seemed to her that it was almost preoccupied with an ongoing interaction with the egg it was leaning up against. Though she felt a change of emotion, on brief as it seemed to notice that she was touching it and she smiled. 'I'm sure no one will be a match for you ambitious one.' She thought to the dragon within and then removed her hand and touched the final egg.

The Twining Egg Seemed to be the largest in the clutch and was the one the clawed egg had been directing most of it's attention to. She wondered if perhaps they were having some sort of an internal skirmish with one another. Her hand fell against the shell and she felt the superiority it seemed to radiate and this brought a smile to her face. A dragon that was regal in some aspect when it came to who it decided to regard as interesting. Perhaps it was the type that wanted those to know it should be recognized by what it is, what it will become and it's actions. She felt as though this dragon within would also be destined for a future of greatness. This made her happy. Maybe her sister and herself did have a chance upon the sands today. I'm sure you'll find the recognition you deserve soon enough. She said as she removed her hand.

All the possibilities that were going to open up for her sister and her. Running a crew on a ship had been one thing, but to be able to command dragons and their riders and ensure for their safety. The thought of being able to hold such a rank made her heart skip a beat. The things they could do to help those that were in need. There was so much that could happen and she would have to find a way to jot her thoughts down so when she was finally done with her training she could best plot a course of action to rise through the ranks to the position she could get the most good out of. .

Octavia wanted power, but not in the sense of being power hungry. She wanted to be able to make a difference, to change things to create less turmoil for those in need. She may only be 14 turns right now, but she had great aspirations. She gave a final bow to the Gold as she reached the edge of the sands and then moved out of the way so that others could come and touch the eggs before them.

Naressa
28 turns; In the Stands
Search Rider in Dauntless Wing
Healer of Trine
Dragon; Blue Reciproth

Mine come, it is time for the touching. He said as he landed not to far away so that he could watch the candidates touch the eggs and greet the Gold. The Search Dragon was already upon one of the ledges not to far from the sands in which he could still see everything that was going on. HE never got close during these procedures, one never knew if a Gold might get too testy. Nothing against her, it was just a precaution. He had seen it happen before and wasn't going to risk the chance of such a thing today. Greetings Killakeeth, your scales shine like a mountain of fresh pressed gold. He greeted the gold from his perch nearby. He looked around and spotted his rider walking into the stands and took a seat and was watching Dazarec and Octavia. He thrummed slightly in amusement. Oh his rider was something else. Greetings Kynigoth. He said as he watched the curious green.

Naressa was wearing very nice cloths today and was quite excited about this hatching. What was even more interesting was that there were twins upon the sands. She wasn't sure when the last time such an event had occurred. She told Vosin that this clutch was lucky. Now to see how the end result was going to turn out. Her eyes scanned the sands and she spotted Dazarec. She knew he was nervous, but she had hoped that her talk with him the other night would have eased some of that. This was his last chance to impress, she hoped that he did, it would be sad to see his dreams crushed. She knew it happened, but still. She dreaded what might happen if he walked away without bonding this time. She'd have to keep an eye out for him if that happened.

Her eyes then turned to the twins. Banashe had been brought in by Killakeeth and Octavia by herself. The girls seemed to have so much potential. They would do great things no matter what happened to them, and they had lived through so much. Their Uncle had been kind enough to fill them in a little bit of what happened to their parents and how they came to be with him and do the things they did. They were strong, independent and knew how to run things and sail a ship in stormy weather. They would be perfect candidates for dragons. They had to fly in some very rough conditions but they would have the ability to between here. Either way, this was going to prove to be an interesting impression when the dragons hatched.

Vosin only paid half attention to the orders of the candidate masters. She was far beyond that point. What she watched was the candidates themselves. These were the prospective riders to her dragon's egg. She wished only the best for both pairs. Her eyes glanced toward the stands as a small crowd gathered to watch the touching. Lips quirked with amusement as most others never bothered to come to a touching; now she guessed it was the unusual clutched that drew them in. She bet that the hatching was going to be quite interesting.

A familiar green coming in brought a nod to Kynigoth and Kalendol. She could always rely on that pair. It wasn't much of a surprise to see J'nes and Hatteth here. And of course Bereck, she thought with a giggle.

Killakeeth watched the group of candidates. A young man brought a flash of pleasure to her eyes with his elegant bow. She gave a nod to Dazarec. It would be interesting to see if he impressed to one of her clutch this time. What manors that one has Vosin! I hope he impresses well. Killa rumbled softly to her rider.

What do you think of the candidates this time around Hatteth? She was pleased that some of her candidates were standing. It amused her to see the green and her rider here. What do you think of my eggs Berath? If she sounded smug it was only to be expected. A young voice reached her from one of the candidates. Killkeeth regarded Octavia for a moment. Of course I gleam, I'm a gold. The dragon stated matter-of-factly, as if this should have been a given. And a good morning to you and yours Reciproth. My rider has well tended my hide as I've tended my eggs.

Litaidar shifted from foot to foot on the hot sands. She felt naked in her candidates robes without her trusty lasso. Unfortunately the guys in charge wouldn't let her bring it, plus there was no place to attach it to her robes. Her first Touching. She waited through the que. When her turn came, she bowed to the gold. She turned to the eggs. Going around to the right side of the clutch she approached the Seething Egg. The seething mass of emotions startled her into snatching her hand back. What was that! Now she wasn't so sure this had been such a good idea. She'd left her happy little flock for these.... monsters. Her mind connected the unborn hatchlings with whers. Her hated foe. No this had probably not been a great idea. But Kitchi was here.

She swung around the front of the clutch and let her hand tentatively brush the Athletic Egg. Lita was ready to snatch it back if it was over whelming. This egg was much nicer and eager to meet her. She gave it a favorable pat before moving on to the Rumbling Egg. Lita didn't much care for the sense of pressure that the egg was holding. Was this thing dangerous?! The teen quickly backed away from the egg. Half the clutch done.

Working her way through the remaining eggs, she reached the Clawed Egg leaning against it's neighbor. Her fingers lightly brushed over the shell. It was nearly as intense as Seething had been. Almost. The fact it wasn't directed at her helped. How did the bigger egg take it. Her palm moved against the Twinging Egg. This one feel a bit too superior for her tastes. She didn't want to partner with anyone arrogant. With her touching finally done, she fled the Sands. Not sure if she was going to actually stand when the hatching came about.

Banashe nodded. Maybe it boasted well for their chances. However she'd done a head count. There was way more candidates standing than eggs on the sands. Their chances, strategically speaking, were not very good. Logically she knew the reason the riders accumulated so many potential riders. It was to provide more options to the hatching dragons. Having a hatchling vanish without picking a partner wasn't in her best interest.

She wanted to believe her twin, but with so many eggs looking alike, and yet they seems to be the only twins. Where did that leave everyone else? It wasn't like they could impress the whole clutch! It wasn't something they covered in the candidate lessons, but she wanted to explore it further. Banashe was distracted by a squeeze on her arm and Octavia telling her it was her turn. She gave a tiny nod and stepped forward. Not nearly as elegant or flourish-y, she gave a respectful bow to the gold. After a moment she approached the eggs.

Her hand fell to touch the Athletic Egg. The energy from this egg was delightful. Banashe thought this dragon wouldn't be a slug-a-bed in the morning and might be one of the first to hatch. Surely someone would be thrilled with this hatchling. Some eggs she brushed and didn't feel much, or wasn't interested in what she felt. She moved down along the left side of the clutch until she reached the Twinging Egg. Her hand rested upon it's shell. Right away she could tell the egg was focused on its nearest neighbor. Interesting. Something, some interaction was already going on while the babies were still in the eggs.

It certainly had a sense of superiority over the other egg. Banashe wondered what feud the pair had and if it would carry over to the hatching. Briefly she sensed the egg's attention turn toward her. It quite approved of her ambition and intelligence. She patted it and wished it luck in it's battle. At least someone other than her twin realized the value of smarts and drive. Right next to it was the Clawed Egg. Banashe arched her brow as the feelings struck her. This was an egg! She grinned. The surge was predictably directed at the egg she'd just left. It's feeling of good will reminded her a bit of her twin. She'd have to compare notes with Octavia afterwards!

Moving along toward the back she passed Octavia going in the opposite direction. With a nod, she placed her hand upon the Rumbling Egg. In the back, despite it's small size it felt like the weightiest egg. Something was building behind that shell. Banashe moved along before she wore off her welcome. As she came around the right side of the clutch her hand caressed the shell of the Seething Egg. She was surprised at the swirl of emotion she felt from the egg. It's dauntlessness came across and she could certainly appreciate that.

Jenel tried not to bounce on his feet as they waited for the Candidatemaster to let them all on the sands. They were finally here! After turns of waiting to be a Candidate, months of lessons and weeks of anticipation after the clutch was laid, it was finally his turn to meet the eggs! If he was lucky, one of them might even hold a dragon for him! He barely paid attention to the instructions they were given. Lessons had covered them all already, anyway. He kept craning his head around to try and see the eggs.

Finally they were allowed onto the Sands. After a few steps, he made sure to stop and bow to the queen. He wouldn't want to be kicked off the Sands for being rude, after all. Then he finally got to approach the eggs.

They were all so...the same. He'd watched Hatchings before as a kid, and he'd seen that eggs were usually all different colors and patterns. These were all the same pattern. It was kinda weird, but also kinda cool. The eggs were being mysterious!

He walked right up to the closest one, the Athletic Egg, and laid a hand on its shell. He was surprised to find the egg seemed to feel a lot like him at the moment; eager to meet everyone. It seemed pretty energetic somehow, too. How could that be when it wasn't moving at all? Janel puzzled over this for a moment before he remembered they were told not to stay at any one egg too long. So he patted the egg good-bye and moved on.

He circled around one side of the clutch, touching each egg in turn, before he came across the Seething Egg. As soon as his fingers touched the shell, he was taken aback. There seemed to be a lot going on in this egg, it was hard to pick any one emotion out of the many roiling around in that shell. But after a moment, he was about to get the feeling that this dragon didn't want to be tied down. It must be a very strong-willed one. The mass of emotions was threatening to give him a headache, so he moved on, continuing to touch each egg as he circled around to the back of the clutch.

Hatteth hummed a greeting at Killakeeth when she addressed him. I think we have a very fine group of Candidates for your eggs. And Mine's hatchling is among them! he informed her proudly. He looked down at the boy, eyes whirling a pleased green as he added, This will be his first time Standing. I see he is behaving well. Mine has taught him well.

J'nes was oblivious to the conversation between the two dragons as he watched his son's progress. Janel had a look of surprise on his face when he touched his first egg. That was only to be expected, since it was an unusual experience to feel that kind of emotions from an apparently inanimate object. It had certainly come as a surprise to him to find that the unhatched dragons already displayed signs of personality.

His son didn't have any particularly notable reactions for a while. Perhaps the eggs he was touching had less strong personalities, or perhaps he was more used to them after the first one. J'nes looked around at the other Candidates for a while, and when he looked back he saw Janel touch one egg (middle-sized, indistinguishable from the others), then take a step back, clearly shocked. Clearly that egg had a very strong personality one way or another, and now J'nes really wanted to know what it might be. Perhaps he could ask his son for his impressions on the eggs later.

She gave a little hum of pleasure as Hatteth also approved of the candidates. Oh is that so? Which one is yours hatchling? It is a good reflection on yours that he behaves well. Killa peered at the group of candidates filtering among her eggs.

Janel continued on around the clutch, enjoying all the different personalities he was meeting. Then he came to one at the back of the clutch that made him stagger slightly, and stead his feet as if to brace himself. The Rumbling Egg felt heavy somehow, as if there was a great weight on him. Or perhaps the egg itself was very heavy? He didn't know how heavy eggs were supposed to be, and he could hardly try picking them up to see. He expected their mother would not like that. While he was thinking about this, he realized his hand was starting to feel uncomfortably warm and snatched it away from the shell before it could burn. Then he felt slightly foolish. An egg couldn't really burn him...couldn't it? he decided it was probably best not to find out and moved on.

He kept visiting all the eggs until he came to the last two. One of them seemed to be the largest of the clutch, so he saved that for last. Instead he approached the middle-sized Clawed Egg beside it. From the way it was nestled up against it's larger sibling, Janel thought they might be friends. But his eyebrows arced up in surprise when he found the exact opposite was true; it seemed to be challenging it's larger sibling, very angrily. It didn't seem to pay him much attention, all it's focus was on the larger egg. Then again, only the first egg Janel had touched seemed to be reacting to him specifically, and even that seemed to be more of a general greeting. Maybe eggs didn't usually react to Candidates much?

Janel moved on to the last, largest egg to see what it would do. When his hand touched the shell, he found The Twinging Egg seemed to radiate cool superiority, a sharp contrast from the sharp challenge of the previous egg. He didn't think this egg was reacting to him either, probably to the egg beside it. Guess that eggs could feel each other's personalities, at least if they're leaning on each other like this. That was kind of fascinating. Then he felt like the egg seemed to glance his way for a moment, grant him a small feeling of approval, then turn back towards the other egg. Janel was surprised and kind of honored by the attention. He would have liked to stay and see if it did that again, but they couldn't stay at any egg too long, and he'd probably been here as long as he could. But when he stepped back from the egg, he gave a small bow to it before turning and leaving the sands. He hoped the eggs would hatch soon so he could see what the baby dragons were like!

J'nes saw a few more interesting reactions from the son. The one in the back made him bow his head and brace himself, as if under a heavy weight. And then snatch his hand off the shell abruptly. Did the dragon snap at him, perhaps? Some of them could have rather sharp personalities. The next-to-last egg made him look surprised again, then thoughtful. The last egg didn't seem to provoke a strong reaction at first, but he lingered at it longest. And then when he stepped back, the boy actually bowed to the egg before leaving. Well, that was interesting. J'nes doubted his son would have bowed to the egg just because it was the biggest. The boy had always shown signs of being interested in all dragons equally, not just the biggest, as was common only a decade ago. The egg must have done something to impress him. Very interesting indeed. He would definitely have to catch up with his son and hear his reactions to the eggs now.

Hatteth pointed his snout towards Janel to identify him to Killakeeth. He's that one, with the brown hair...ah, but there are many with brown hair. Um... He tried to think of a more identifying feature, but then the boy did something notable. Ah, look there! He's bowing to the eggs! He gave a small thrum of pride at the boy's good manners.

The bronze flicked his tail and sauntered out of his weyr. Casting one last glance at his rider Experath leapt into the air, winging his way towards the hatching grounds. It didn't take long before he swooped in, landing in one of the higher perches. The bronze chirped happily, broadcasting for everyone to hear. He eagerly looked around, glancing at the candidates, dragons, eggs and people. It was all very exciting no matter what N'oka had to say about it.

Back in his weyr the bronzerider let out a breath and sat back in his chair. Maybe Experath was right. Touchings could be intimidating, he had searched some of them after all. Besides with Experath so excited there was no way he'd be able to focus now. Huffing to himself N'oka stood. Stupid dragon...
