Colorado Dustbowl
Danger Level: 1

Paths
--U.S.S. Hazel--

Within the zones of the world that have been classified as Danger Level 1, there are many people who have decided to forego the comforts of the big city life in order to forge a life for themselves outside of the protected walls of the six major cities of the world. The Colorado Dustbowl is one of these such places. Colorado Springs is located deep into the Colorado Dustbowl, a massive valley area that dried up ages ago and transformed the land into a desert-like area. It is one of the larger settlements that have managed to create homes for themselves in the wastelands of the outside world. They have no electronics to speak of in their small city, and everything that they use is hand operated, or done by physical labor. Having such a system means that there are no host objects or equipment that can house an A.I. Core's coding. As such, any attacks on their town have to come from A.I. Cores that have spawned at the nearest piece of electric technology, which, for the people of the Colorado Dustbowl, is quite a long ways away. It has not been unheard of for them to be attacked, but they have managed, over the years, to be well prepared for any attacks, and have built walls out of the hardened clay they have dug up while tilling their farmlands.

It took a long time for them to succeed, but eventually the lands began to bear crops, and they were able to create a thriving farming community within the desert-like area. Thankfully the old Colorado Springs still fed underground, and when they struck the water, they were saved. There are infrequent sightings of the A.I. Cores in the area, and the Dustbowl spreads for miles around the City. The valley city is very segregated, but it is one of the important areas that baiters can be teleported to from the B.A.I.T.R Base in Toronto. It is possible to make it from Toronto to Colorado by foot, caravan, air, or vehicle, but the trip is long, and rife with danger. Without a guide to lead you around the more dangerous sections of the world, you could very well end up dead long before making it there. Within the deserts in the surrounding areas, there are plenty of small pockets of old broken down cities, though they are miles out from Colorado Springs. These are the locations where baiters are more likely to encounter A.I. Cores wandering in their physical forms, but it is not completely unreported to have them closer to the Springs.

Dal'Mori Cestrol Menne

As he arrived at his destination, he took a moment to look around, his mind replaying what had just happened. He had figured he would just be teleported directly here, but apparently that was not the case. So, it was no surprise that he was caught off guard when the lights faded and he was faced with, not the mountainous desert like area he was expecting, but a different HQ. Only to, just a few moments later, be torn apart once more, and sent off to a completely different place.

Now, having gotten used to the sensation, the first time wasn't a big deal. There was a little dizziness, but nothing too major. However, the second, almost immediate teleportation had him swaying on his feet, someone who happened to be nearby rushed over to help him out, holding him up until he was able to do so completely of his own accord. He offered a quiet thank you to the person, and asked them for directions towards the farmlands he was looking for.

A surprised look crossed the person’s face, something he inquired about immediately, figuring this person would obviously have some kind of information he needed. The not quite elderly lady, short and stout, who looked like a mother if his guess was right, and they were rarely wrong, told him that the area he was speaking of was having difficulties with the beasties lately. So, while she was expecting someone to come through to begin looking into it, she was not expecting someone to come all on their own.

This caused a small crease to form above his eyebrows as his eyes narrowed slightly. So, whatever the problem was, even the people a distance from it found it dangerous. Well, that was worth knowing, but as it stood right now, he was already out here, so he might as well go and look into things and see what was going on. At the very least he could make sure he grabbed up some information on what was going on, so as to ensure the proper mission was made up next time. He nodded in thanks to the woman, offering some form of monetary compensation for the information she gave to him, to which she only shook her head, stating she had no use for it.

He shrugged, thanked her again, and headed off in the direction she pointed him after explaining everything she had to say.

There was an odd twinge in his gut as he walked away, causing his brow to knit together in confusion. Was he worried? A flash of golden eyes answered his question. He wondered when the eyes of the monster that destroyed his home were replaced with the snake that destroyed him recently, but regardless they did the trick. He was worried. His gut was informing him that this fight was not going to be an easy one, and seeing as it had, on several occasions, saved his own life as well as the lives of many of his brethren, he decided it was worth it to pay attention.

He detached the trench knives from their place and dropped them on the ground, followed shortly by the transforming sword he picked up. They were unneeded weight. If he lived he would pick them up on his way back, and if he died he wouldn't even remember them. For now, though, he needed every advantage he could get. Thus, focusing on his main weapon alone, carrying his main weapon alone, was what he needed to do.

He mulled over what could be over there as he trekked on. Other Baiters had been returning, stating there was an anomaly that was causing the issues. So, either they hadn't dealt with it directly, only caught glimpses of it, or by 'come back' the guy who gave him the mission meant they had died, and that was all they could offer. He wondered what kind of thing would be able to push A.I.s to do anything, let alone be considered odd enough to be called an anomaly.

He pushed his curiosity out of his mind, because all it was managing to do was make him more nervous. As he told Acel when they were about to fight, going into a fight thinking you could lose makes it all but an inevitability, and if things were as dangerous as the lady made it out to be, as his mind was imagining it to be, he couldn't afford to allow even the slightest sliver of doubt to enter his mind. He sincerely hoped he could get in and out without a serious fight happening though. While he had come out here looking for a fight, the new knowledge presented to him made him feel like it would be better to avoid a fight than it would be to rush head first into looking for one.

It took him a good, long while to reach the farmlands he was looking for, an unfortunate distance from the portal. They were still within the protective cocoon that the walls offered, but they were also the ripest for the picking. He could see it clear as day. If he were to lay seize to this place, this would likely be one of the weak points he would attack first. As he neared the location, apparently a few of the people saw him coming, because the streets were all but deserted. There were a few men and women who looked like guards walking around, but they looked so hilariously under trained, that pre-HALF he could take them on, and probably beat all of them while suffering only minor injuries.

A few of them nervously made their way over to him, obviously the situation they were suffering from having some adverse effects, making him wish he could do something for these people. This right here, this was exactly what he wanted to end. What he wanted to remove. With the death of all the cores, there would never be a need for this kind of fear again. As they approached he made motions to make himself appear as nonthreatening as a man who was over six feet tall, armed and dangerous could appear.

He informed them of why he was here and they visibly relaxed, as if a weight was lifted from their shoulders, clearly more than glad someone was here to deal with the problem that had been plaguing them for what appeared to be some time now. However, much like with the woman before, they became surprised there was only the one man there, which did nothing to quell the growing unrest in his gut.

He would not give in to the fear that was growing. To give in would be to lay his head on the chopping block without a fight. Something he would refuse to do until his very last breath.

As he stood there, they explained in better detail what was going on. Apparently a few other Baiters had come in to try to deal with this problem, but hadn't come back, which served to confirm his earlier thoughts. They hadn't 'come back' they had died. This mission just took a turn for the worse, and he wasn't even outside the confines of this protective wall. They also explained that something, though they had no idea what, was causing an increase in sightings of A.I.s. Normally, they caught sight of a few here and there, in passing, and rarely did they come close enough to warrant any kind of concern, but recently they had been growing more and more daring, but not because they wanted the town, because they wanted to get away from the city whose top tickled the edge of the horizon.

Seeing how far away the place was, Dal'Mori sighed. Today was going to be a very long day. If this mission didn't eat up what was left of his day, he would be very surprised. Once he got all relevant information, of which there wasn't a lot, he headed off. He learned very little, except that the beasties he was heading off to face were scared of something, and that was something he needed to deal with.

Or at the very least, discover what it is so as to ensure the right people came to deal with it.

To say things were getting weird around here was an understatement of a huge variety. Especially if he was the one to notice these things, given he was widely viewed as a bit of a weirdo among his own kind all on his own anyway. His collection of stuffed animals always got him a bit of a cross eyed look, but the fact that he always met the gaze dead on and held it always creeped out whatever core decided they had what it took to call him out. If that didn't work, his powerful body and rabid nature was enough to keep them off his back about it.

As for what was weird, he couldn't accurately tell.

Honestly, him and his master had been chilling out in this city, when this weird ball of... Something showed up. Whatever it was, nobody knew. However, what they did know was that when it came into contact with a source of A.I. regeneration, it broke down. They had no idea what it was, where it came from, or why it existed, but they did know they had to find a new place to hang out.

Suddenly, the Were-crow lifted his nose and took a deep whiff, before suddenly turning around and shooting off.

He quickly came upon his Mama, a slightly larger than normal Kabal who liked to beat him. He didn't mind, so long as his Mama was happy. "Mama! Mama! There's someone coming! I think it's one of those Baiter dummies!" He said, sitting at her feet on all fours, his tail wagging back and forth as he awaited his reward for bringing her good news.

She sat comfortably, her massive staff well within arm reach, relaxing comfortably on a bunch of crushed vehicles she had pulled together to make her 'throne'. She had cleared this area out of most of the other cores that were hanging around, making this place her own. She would even proudly admit that she had wrecked them, killing them if they didn't respond to her attempting to push them out of her land. She was a proud and powerful woman, and had no problems throwing her weight around.

There were a few annoyances. Mainly, the Turbine Beetle that seemed to think it was better than everyone, and always strives to be on higher ground than everything around it, even though it was one of the shortest A.I.s there was. The only reason it was still around was because it had this weird desire to prove it was better than her.

"Mama! Mama!" Speaking of annoyances, there was another one. This one was perhaps the most annoying. When she first found him she tried to bully him away, but he just stared at her with this weird look in his eyes, even she couldn't deny it was creepy. Then he started to rub against her like some kind of weird cat, and called her Mama over and over again. She beat him more times than she could count, and the strange thing was, he let her! He seemed to love every minute of it! Every time he died, he came back for more! It was sick. Eventually, she just let it slide. He had his uses, and if all she had to do to keep his loyalty was beat the hell out of him every now and again, why not? It was a good stress relief.

Her head snapped up when she heard that there was a Baiter coming, and demanded that the Were-crow go off and find the third member of their group. She might hate him, but he would prove to be useful in a fight against a Baiter. Especially if that weird orb showed up and freaked out the Were-crow.

Within moments the Turbine beetle was there, and they were heading off to set up an ambush, hopefully setting up a quick take down of this Baiter punk.

Skittering of little feet echoed off the empty alleyway walls, as a rather shor-Er, less than average height creature paced back and forth, a small collection of rats in front of it, all watching it move back and forth. "Alright you bunch of rodents, listen up! You are my army! You will do what I say!" The Turbine Beetle's voice, high pitched, like the starting of a jet engine, commanded the rats. Surprisingly, they seemed to be listening to what it had to say.

Of course, this caused the Turbine Beetle to feel quite proud, chest puffing out.

However, before it could get to directing its army, a massive furry figure pounced from nowhere, grabbing two of his army without pause, causing the rest to scatter. The Beetle could only watch in shock as the disgusting beast destroyed two of his beloved corps, eating them with a sickening ease. It had to shudder. Even if the Turbine Beetle wanted to kill this b*****d for doing what it did, and there was no doubt it could, the brain dead animal based A.I. would just enjoy it!

As soon as he was done ripping apart the poor rats, he turned to the Turbine Beetle and tried to rub up against it, only for the Beetle to climb up the nearby wall, using its insect like feet. The stupid were-crow sat down petulantly, and pouted up at him. Finally, it seemed to remember why it was there, and began to speak.

"Hey shorty!! Mama says come on!"

Immediately rage billowed up in its chest! It was the leader of this group! It was the strongest! It had the army! They were just its minions! "Ta mère est tellement petite que sa tête pue des pieds! I give the orders around here!" It shouted, immediately insulting the ridiculous creature's 'mother'. Apparently that seemed to snap the Were-crow back into place, but the glare it was giving did not make the Turbine Beetle happy.

Like a combination of a kicked puppy, and a kid who was denied that piece of candy they wanted, the were-crow spoke, "I was just tellin you cause ders a Baiter comin."

Immediately everything changed.

Without saying anything the Turbine Beetle shot off, knowing that the other A.I. would be hot on his tail. It took them no time at all to reach the Kabal who fancied herself the leader, and the only real reason the Turbine Beetle let her think that was because it was less annoying. At least he knew at the end of the day he was the leader, and she was just a figurehead.

"I think we should set up an ambush, take them by surprise. It's worked before, and there is no reason it won't work now." The Turbine Beetle began, not even giving them, any time to think about interjecting anything. Knowing the Kabal it would have been a headlong rush at them, and the Were-crow would just ask for whatever would make his 'Mama' happiest. The Kabal wanted to protest, and the Were-crow let loose a pitiful whine, but in the end they both agreed. They set up a signal, basically the Turbine Beetle launching a blast of sound.

That set, they quickly rushed off towards the most probable entrance, set themselves up, and began the hardest part. Waiting.

It took the Baiter a surprising length of time to reach the city entrance. Either the Were-crow smelled him on a lucky wind, or he was very paranoid. Either way, the Turbine Beetle got ready, it was finally time. The man came into sight, walking slowly, constantly moving his head around. The Turbine Beetle only hoped that the other two idiots didn't jump the gun.

Just a few more feet....

THERE!

With gusto, the Turbine Beetle launched itself from its hiding place, flipping in air. At the peak of its jump, the weapon mounted in its back was pointing right at the man, and with a loud 'Whoomp' sound, a loud blast of sound fired off, aiming to crush the man right into the ground with the attack. When it landed on the ground, it crouched slightly, ready to shoot off at a moment's notice.

Turn 1

She didn't like the Turbine Beetle's attitude one bit. They barely tolerated each other while grouping up, but truth be told they worked well together. It sucked that he was technically stronger than she was, but that was something she would forever ignore. When he showed up and started spouting orders like he owned them, she wanted to speak out against him, but his plan was solid. It had worked before, several times in fact. Thus, while she wanted to argue for arguments sake, there was a Baiter on their way here now, and she couldn't afford to let them get the drop on them instead.

So, as much as she hated to admit it, the plan was a good one, and they sped off to make sure they could pull it off. They placed themselves in a triangle around a specific point, though she had to man handle the were-crow into his position, as he was trying his hardest to stay with her. She finally managed to get the idiot to sit there and wait, though he seemed really shifty, worrying her that he might rush into something too early.

The Baiter finally came into sight, a tall man, though not quite as tall as she was. He seemed fit, but she out muscled him any day of the week. She pulled out her weapon, which looked very similar to the one the Baiter was using, save hers was blunt and his had a sharp end. She waited, for several tense moments, the man seemingly moving in slow motion, all the while she was itching for the signal. It was time to attack damn it!

Suddenly there was motion!

The Turbine Beetle finally launched itself from its hiding place, and attacked! She wasted no time in reacting to this, rushing from her hiding spot towards the man, swinging her weapon towards him as fast as she could, aiming to take him out at the legs. Hit or miss, she would stay in close to the Baiter, it was her position. Her weapon at the ready, ready to intercept him should he try to attack the other two of the team. She was a Kabal after all, defense was her specialty.

The were-crow was a happy camper! It had found the short little bug guy who was talking to walking snacks! Obviously he helped himself, they were snacks, and they were obviously waiting for him. He enjoyed each one immensely, before turning to the A.I. he had come here to see. Immediately he tried to show the thing love by rubbing against it, but it ran away from him. He pouted up at the creature, before telling him that his Mama wanted him.

The creature said something in some crazy gibberish language, and then said something about him being the one that gave orders. Honestly, the dog like A.I. couldn't care less who thought they were running the place, so long as it got the attention it wanted. When he finally made it clear there was a Baiter coming, the Turbine Beetle switched gears and they raced back to Mama.

When they got there, the two talkers of the group figured they had better hide and attack the Baiter from the shadows. Again, the Were-crow couldn't care less. He just wanted the fight to begin so he could get a good beating, like the good boy he was. As they discussed the plan, they decided on how things would go down and went on to the place they decided would be the best area to pull off this ambush.

When they got there, the plan fell to s**t in his mind. He kept trying to follow his Mama, figuring that would be the best place for him. He wanted to fight with his Mama. She was the smart one. She was the best one. Apparently, she wanted him to attack the man from behind though, and eventually smacked him in the head so hard he was too dazed to disagree.

He waited in his hiding place, like his Mama wanted, pacing in circles, whining softly. He was trying to be quiet, he really was, but this wasn't how he worked. Suddenly the smell was closer, and he was finally able to still himself. The man was getting so close! He could tell by the smell that the Baiter was a man, and a powerful one at that.

This beating would be so much fun!

The Were-crow waited, his body constantly shifting as he prepared himself to launch out from this hiding spot at the Baiter's back. He waited as patiently as he could, he really did. It was sooo hard! His body tensed up, and he just about jumped right out of his spot when the Turbine Beetle finally moved, launching the attack that would signify the start of the ambush. Shortly after Mama came rushing out, and sent her attack his way, which was his signal to jump out.

No more thought! He rushed out from under the shadows, finally setting himself free with a delighted howl, racing forwards as fast as his four legs could carry him. As soon as he was in striking range he leaped forward, bringing his claws down in an attempt to split the man's arms from his body.

He was starting to dislike the missions he went on for this army.

This was the most prevalent thought in his mind as he trekked across the expensive wasteland that surrounded the farmlands. It wasn't too hot, but it wasn't too cold. It was sort of on the verge of being too warm, but not quite there yet. One of the most unfortunate things about the distance between him and his target was that he was wide open. Sure, he would also see whatever might be coming his way from a mile off as well, but that was beside the point. There was no cover. None. This was something he wasn't used too. While he didn't typically use cover, there were times it was necessary, and he preferred to be prepared.

Especially with the idea that he may need to hide.

Ever since he arrived his gut had been telling him something was wrong. Every single step closer to the ruins he was heading towards increased that feeling. The problem, which he had been able to figure out given the period of time that he had to himself while walking, was that he had no idea what was actually going on. The only clue he had was that something was wrong, and whatever that was, was enough to send several Baiters back home to regenerate.

He had no idea what kind of A.I.s he might fight. No idea what this anomaly was. Honestly, as he walked on, he wondered why he even took this mission in the first place. He was probably the least qualified man to do it, being that he didn't even understand his enemies until just a few days ago, how was he going to identify what was out of place?

Why didn't these questions occur to him when he was accepting the mission?

He knew why. He was distracted. As calm as he had been after meditating, he had been equally distracted. His mind, while clear of those pesky thoughts, was not exactly a focused one. Instead, it was intent on keeping him calm, and making him forget about what he was trying to do. Hence the solo mission. There was nothing that he needed to focus on except himself. That was the idea anyway. Yet, when he arrived things went belly up. His gut began informing him this would not be easy, everybody he met said basically the same thing, hell even basic common sense said that what he was heading into had the strong potential for disaster.

He just kept walking towards it.

He wondered if this made him an idiot. He never really felt like an idiot before, so he wasn't sure. When he was at home everyone recognized that he was a fighter. There was nothing else he was good at, with the exception of teaching others how to fight. Yet, without the generalized acceptance of his home, and the fact that he was walking into a situation he was only just now realizing his inability to honestly deal with it, he felt he might finally know what it was like to feel dumb.

After what felt like ages of him berating himself for his poor choice, he finally took his first step into the city, and all at once all sound ceased. The wind seemed to immediately stop blowing, the animals stopped chattering, it was almost as if he had gone deaf. If it weren't for the sounds of his feet hitting the ground as he kept walking, he would have actually been worried about that.

As he walked through the ruins, his head constantly moving this way and that, he spotted a small glowing orb. It didn't match any of the A.I.s he'd ever seen before, and he immediately connected the dots, a sense of complete disbelief at his own luck entering his mind. What were the odds of that? He spotted whatever it was that seemed to be mucking things up for everyone the moment he walked into the ruins.

Of course, that seemed to be the end of his luck, for as he began to follow after it, to see if he couldn't corner it, or find out where it might hide, he felt a sense of impending danger. Immediately set on the defensive, his head started to dart around again, cursing the fact that in doing so he lost sight of the... Whatever that was.

He took one more step, and it was like he slipped the trip wire.

Suddenly from above there was another one of those stupid beetle things, flipping over top of him, blasting at him with those sound based attacks that had been thrown at Kawaguchi all of their last fight. He was barely able to dart out from the path of that attack, but while doing so he stepped right into the range of the charging Kabal. He'd never seen one before, but he recognized its large form. The beastie swung its weapon at him, and since he could not dodge, he decided it would be better to redirect.

He grabbed the weapon, and spun on the spot, pulling the beastie along with it. Originally, his goal had been to throw her away from him, but as he turned around he saw a Were-crow, a beastie he was more than familiar with. It was charging directly at him, aiming to slice into him with its claws. Deciding to kill two birds with one stone, he let go of the Kabal's weapon, which caused the A.I. to fly into the Were-crow, sending them both tumbling away in a heap.

He took a few steps back to maintain a visual on all three targets as he pulled his weapon into his hands, slipping into the all too comfortable stance. "Come. Let us dance." He said in a calm voice, as everything synced up, his mind and body one whole instead of two parts working towards the same goal. He eyed his opponents, weighing them, deciding which would be the best target to start with. The Turbine Beetle was the fastest, meaning the hardest to fight. Speed was always a key factor in a fight. The Kabal was beefy, more than likely going to be hard to hit, or for that matter damage.

Leaving him with only one option.

He turned towards the Were-crow, which had by this point untangled itself from the Kabal and looked ready to, though the way he was staring was kind of unnerving. Not in a scary kind of way, but in a creepy kind of way, which caused a few goosebumps to appear across his arms. Well, all the more reason to wipe him out first, nothing that creepy should ever exist.

He snapped forward like a rubber band, one moment his body was standing perfectly still, the next it was right in front of the Were-crow. Even Dal'Mori had to take a moment to feel impressed at this new found speed of his amazing new body. The attacks flowed from his weapon in such a way it almost looked like he planned it all out right from the start. The first attack went low, sweeping wide to see if he could take out the thing's legs. The next one swung high, coming all the way around him in a full circle in an attempt to knock his head off. The final attack once more completed a full circle, coming around right for the middle.

Each attack was vicious, devastating. If even one of those attacks landed, they would leave an impression.

Immediately the Turbine Beetle hated the Baiter. The b*****d was unbelievably tall, almost as tall as the Kabal, and even she only had the man by a few inches. He was also powerful, more so than they could have guessed right at the start. The way he handled himself was, admittedly, quite the sight to see. He completely dodged all three of the attacks, despite them all being from essentially blind spots. The one that got under its skin the most was the fact that the Baiter was able to completely dodge its first attack, despite the fact that it should have been the least expected.

Sure, he stumbled a bit, but he dodged it all the same.

He then manhandled the Kabal, throwing her into that imbecilic Were-crow, stopping both of them from landing their surprise attacks as well. What on earth was happening here?! They had the drop on this guy, and yet despite the fact that it had allowed them to take out several Baiters beforehand, this guy just completely negated it.

Worse than that, he seemed completely calm while doing it. The man's face was set in stone, nothing was betrayed. It was almost like he completely expected something like this to happen, which wouldn't make any sense, because nothing gave away their position until the attacks started. This filled the Turbine Beetle with a sense of dread. This guy was something else. They would need to take him out, and quickly.

He pulled out his weapon, and in an almost bored fashion, invited them to bring on the fight. This caused the Beetle to nearly scream in rage. He was being underestimated! How dare this b*****d?! It was powerful! Probably the strongest here! Not even this Baiter could match up!

Then he attacked.

The A.I. could only watch with wide eyes as the man seemed to just blur out of sight, only to phase back into clarity just in front of the Were-crow, attacking him with a string of swings that would put their old world batters to shame. "Surround him! Don't give him any room to breathe!" It shouted out, determined to make something good happen from this. They needed to stick together, and continue what they started. They normally didn't get this far, the ambush usually being more than enough to win them the day, but when it didn't they broke up to do what they wanted. Against this guy? They would need to group together and destroy him, or they would have no chance.

The second the last attack was swung towards the Were-crow, the Turbine Beetle was off, coming up right next to the Baiter as fast as it could, before blasting off as loud of an attack as it could, determined to at the very least disrupt the man's equilibrium with the sheer volume, if not hurt him severely.

The plan had been solid. Air tight. Something she could get behind, even if it wasn't a Baiter. Groups always had a better chance of dealing real damage, and such an uneven match up seemed to be really in their favor, three versus one? Come on, that was a no brainer.

However, that was not how things played out. The Turbine Beetle mucked everything up by missing with its first attack. The thing that should have cinched this victory for them was the thing that gave them all away, and set them up for failure.

As she came in for her attack, the man simply grabbed it like it was nothing. Stopping it with his bare hands without so much as a grunt of effort. Her eyes widened when she felt her body start following her weapon, her mind not telling her to let go of it due to the sheer surprise at how the man stopped the attack.

The next thing she knew, she was in a mess of limbs on the ground with that really stupid Were-crow. It was as embarrassing as it was enraging. how dare this man lay a hand on her weapon?! How dare he man handle her?! She was the biggest and the strongest! She did the manhandling! She did not get manhandled!

She quickly disentangled herself from the stupid Were-crow, and rose to her feet, ready to begin fighting once more. The sight that greeted her, however, was something she would never forget. The man, completely calm, like the silence before a storm, pulled out his weapon and seemed to invite them to attempt to take him out.

Had she been operating on all cylinders, she would have recognized it as him trying to get under her skin, but all it did was disturb her, and set her on edge. The words the Turbine Beetle called out in its annoying voice didn't help matters any either, not because it was unsound advice, but because it worried her.

With good reason it seemed.

The man blurred from sight, her eyes barely even able to follow the line of attack. If she hadn't been watching as intently as she was, she would have probably missed his movement. As it was, the most she saw was a blurry line going from where he was standing to in front of the Were-crow. The only good news there was that he wasn't attacking her, and the Were-Crow liked being beaten up. So, if nothing else, he would wind up loving the damage he took, and they would still be okay.

Hopefully.

As she watched the Turbine Beetle speed towards the Baiter, she realized that while she hated to listen to him, he was right. They needed to ensure he had no room to breathe so as to make sure he would eventually slip up.

So, readying herself, she too threw herself at him, now fully aware of how slow she was in comparison to him. No matter, she wasn't built for pure offense. A lot of her strength came in the form of being able to shrug off damage. So, with that in mind, she swung her weapon towards the back of his head with as much force as she could, hoping against hope to land a solid blow.

Dal'Mori: 100 - (155 - 99 =) 56 = 44% Defense Chance.

This was it! It was gonna make Mama so happy! As it sailed towards the man, claws at the ready, more than prepared to gut him for the fun of it, just to impress his Mama, the very woman he was thinking of came into sight from the side, only to slam right into him with enough force to send them both flying away. Apparently this guy was not only completely ready for them to come at him, but he was more than capable of handling all three of them without much difficulty.

Tumbling to a stop just a way away from where he'd been when he tried to land the attack on the man, he lay there stupefied for just a second. This sneaky attack thing they did always seemed to work, and this time not only did it not work, but they were picked apart like they had been moving in slow motion.

It was only the struggle and grunting of his Mama that caused him to realize he needed to get up so they could get back to fighting. The man was going to be difficult, that much was easy to see. How difficult? Only time would tell, but he was willing to find out, even at the expense of his own health. After all, he enjoyed taking a good beating anyway.

All eyes were on the Baiter as he stepped back and readied himself, inviting them to begin the fight in earnest, those words causing a chill to race down the Were-crow's spine like electricity. This was going to be fun!

Or so he thought.

The last thing the Were-crow heard was the short bug guy telling them they needed to press the assault, and give this man no room to breathe. The reason why was made insanely evident when but just a short moment later, the man literally vanished from sight. He moved so fast that the A.I. had no means of following him, his eyes just not able to keep up with the sheer speed the man displayed.

He barely had time for his eyes to widen in surprise when they were suddenly full of the man with the long hair. He couldn't throw up his arms in defense, he couldn't dodge. He was rooted to the spot, fear gripping at him like icy claws, not even his usual playful nature could save him now.

The first attack came in like a wrecking ball, knocking his feet out from under him with a resounding crack. Before he even had time to enjoy the pain, think about enjoying the pain, or even let loose a whimper at the sheer damage he just took from that single blow, the second came through, hitting him right in the skull.

And that was it. There was no more. The Were-crow turned into a floating orb of code, bobbing up and down, waiting to be absorbed by the Baiter.

As he slipped into his ready stance, determining which would be the biggest and smallest threat, they made a huge mistake. Not by telling him what his plan was, oh no, that was no big deal. Knowing what they were going to do only made it easier to handle them. Oh no, the mistake they made was letting him know which one of them was the leader. Which meant, he was the strongest. Thus, the hardest to defeat.

He snapped forward, loosed his attacks, and they all landed, like it was scripted. In one, single, explosive burst of movement, he had wiped out one of their numbers before the fight had even truly began. The thing had gotten a single shot off, but even that hadn't done anything, getting tossed to the side by the body of his own teammate.

It was rather unimpressive really.

What was impressive, however, was the fact that they capitalized on the brief moment his back was turned to them while dealing out the blows he launched. He had to admit, when they said they weren't going to give him time to breathe, they weren't joking. As soon as his weapon stopped swinging, he was forced to dodge roll forward, less he be blasted dead on by the attack from the Turbine Beetle. While the assault didn't land, it did leave him with a ringing in his ears.

This led to him nearly having his head taken off by the Kabal, who came in literally seconds afterwards while he was distracted by the ringing in his ears. It was mostly lucky that had him able to duck under the attack, and plant his foot on her chest, sending her tumbling away from him once more.

He turned his attention to the Turbine Beetle, his eyes narrowing slightly. He didn't like that this one was capable of causing damage to him even if the attack didn't land. The ringing in his ears cleared up quickly, but all the same, it was annoying and distracting. He could deal with being pummeled, but being made deaf? Not something he desired one damned bit.

As such, his next target was the strongest one there, despite how illogical it seemed. One would figure you should take out the strongest last, so they would have all of your focus. However, right now he wanted to cut the head from the snake. If the Turbine Beetle went down, that would be a serious blow to morale, and he wouldn't have to worry about the strongest core anymore.

With that in mind, he shot forward, pushing himself as fast as he could. Once he was in distance, which surprisingly was nowhere near as close as when he went after the Were-crow, he launched the spear tip of his weapon forward, aiming to impale the creature on the end of his weapon, only to quickly bring the blunt end around shortly after, attempting to crush the bug like beastie with the second blow.

Turn 3
Dal'Mori: 100 - (155 - 120 =) 35 = 65% Defense Chance.

Sometimes being a leader meant you had to watch your men die. Sometimes it meant sending them to that death. This was one of those times. The Turbine Beetle couldn't even look away as the man demolished the Were-crow, two solid blows turning it into nothing. The Were-crow didn't even have a chance, the man stepped right into his guard and tore him apart, that weapon in his hands used with an expert proficiency.

Then, even with his back turned, the man dodged its attack! As if he had seen it coming from a mile away, and casually moved so it wouldn't hit him! He continued this amazing string of movement when he ducked right under the attack from the Kabal, even though it was clear he was suffering some hearing loss.

What was this guy made of?!

Getting its moment of doubt out of the way, it refocused on the fight. The man recovered and was staring right at it. If the Turbine Beetle could gulp, it probably would have. It had no desire to end up like the Were-crow! What was this guy doing?! Why wasn't he going after the Kabal?! That was these people normally came at it. If they managed to survive the ambush, they usually assaulted the weakest (Were-crow) or the biggest (Kabal), never going after him! That was why he was the self-proclaimed leader of the group!

No one would ever expect it! It's why he was brilliant!

Yet, for some reason, the Baiter glared right at him, and for the first time in ages the Turbine Beetle felt fear. The man shot up at a speed he was only barely able to comprehend, his body leaping into the air on pure instinct, saving it from the spear thrust, though he still felt the air of it passing by.

It was pure luck that saved it from the second attack. The instinct that told it to jump, told it to jump backwards. In doing so, he was leaping towards a wall. So, instead of coming back down like the man seemed to think, it landed horizontally, on the wall, watching as the weapon swung rapidly by its face, eyes wide in shock.

With a quick scurry, it was away from the man, higher up on the building.

It stared at the man, unable to believe that it had just survived that, and it realized something. It didn't have anything to fear! This man was fast, sure, but he lacked any real substance! They could take him down for sure!

As that thought came into mind, the engine like portion of its body began to whir loudly. It was excited now! This fight might be hard, but they had it in the bag! The whirring kicked up another notch, and now the Turbine Beetle was vibrating. When that happened, it rushed off, appearing to move faster than before.

As it raced down the side of the wall, it looked for the perfect place to leap off, and the second it found it, it pushed off with all its might, before bringing all of its legs together and firing the engine like portion of its body. This resulted in the equivalent of a missile. The Turbine Beetle's legs were all pointed towards the Baiter, its body was spinning rapidly, and it was flying through the air at sonic speeds, attempting to impale itself in the flesh of its enemy.

Turn 3

Her eyes were wide as it happened right in front of her. The annoying little ratty fur-ball was just brutally ended right in front of her. She was surprised to find herself sad to see him go. He was annoying, yes. He was obnoxious, easily. He wasn't something she wanted around... All the time. Sometimes it got a little lonely when you've bullied everyone away. It was somewhat nice to have someone around that liked it.

Watching him turn into a floating ball of code had a profound effect on her this time. She knew that if they all died here, that would be that. They would all be dead. Game over. The thought that this was already the case for the Were-crow made her realize just how serious this was.

With a sniff, a sound that sounded odd coming from her masked face, she attacked the man, only to watch as he completely dodged both attacks. This was insane! He was like the breeze! Winding his way between their attacks like he had this all mapped out in his head, and was simply dancing the steps.

It was a little... Enticing.

She found herself thinking with a little embarrassment. She quickly shut that down, she was the dominant one in the relationships! She would not fall victim to some random Baiter's charm!

She watched as he launched himself forward towards the shortest combatant there, his body not much more than a blur to her eyes. Somehow that wretched creature dodged both the attacks, skittering away up the wall like some kind of coward. Or, that's what she had been thinking, before she heard that whirring.

She'd recognize it anywhere. He was about to do something really stupid. If it worked, it was great, but if it missed, it could leave him incapacitated. It wasn't even a special move; it was just something the thing though was funny to do.

Deciding it would be in her best interest to keep the beetle alive, given the new found fear of this fight she held, figuring they had a better chance to survive as a duo than if she let him die because of his own stupidity, she took off. Her great body lumbering across the battlefield, as she pulled back he heavy weapon and set it loose like a bat, aiming for the center of his mass from behind him. If the attack hit, it would be devastating.

Turn 3

Turbine Beetle: 100 - (129 - 145 =) 1 = 99% Defense Chance.
Kabal: 100 - (103 - 145 =) 1 = 99% Defense Chance.

Even the warrior had to admit to being slightly impressed at the sight of the beastie leaping out of the way of his attack. It almost looked like the creature wasn't going to be able to dodge at all, but at the last possible second it made it evident why he felt it was the strongest of them, as it not only dodged his initial strike, it did so in such a fashion that it completely negated his second attack.

As he watched it clamber up the wall, he couldn't help but wonder what it hoped to do. Was it going to try and draw his attention elsewhere? Make him lose hope because his target was simply too far outside of his reach? If that were the case the beastie would be in for a terrible surprise.

He started to back up, his eyes locked on that roof, his ears finally clearing enough for him to use them as a means of keeping track of the Kabal, who despite being one of the biggest cores here, was surprisingly keeping at the edge of the battlefield, continuously attacking him from his blindside.

While he could appreciate that approach, it was basically insanity, for the very definition of the word was 'trying the same action repeatedly, hoping for a different result.' Each time that beastie attacked him, he dodged. It was too heavy. There was no way to mask its approach. Unless, of course, he was deafened by that Turbine Beetle, which made sense. Unfortunately for her, he was just as capable of fighting with his hearing, as without.

Thankfully, with his eyes locked on the roof that the Turbine Beetle had climbed up too, he saw it start rushing down the side of the building. While this was happening a loud whirring sound was heard, bouncing off the walls of this empty place, causing it to turn into an oddly harmonious cacophony of noise. The sound got louder the close it got, and not just because of the distance closing.

Slipping into a ready stance, as he knew this would be an amazing attack if nothing else. It was about then that the Kabal started its movement, once more coming at him from behind. He sighed as his mind mapped everything out for him, as it was prone to do. As the annoying little b*****d beastie launched itself off the wall, and the large beastie came at him from behind, he suddenly spun around.

As he was doing this, his left hand shot out to grab the Beetle right from the air, like it wasn't spinning at him like some kind of thrown weapon, while simultaneously bringing his staff up to block the attack from the Kabal, the attack barely even coming close to jarring his arm. He stood there for but a moment, allowing them to take in just how out classed they really were, and then he moved, throwing the Turbine Beetle into the face of the Kabal, sending them toppling backwards, reminiscent of the first time he did something similar.

However, this time, he only waited just long enough for his target to be free and clear, ensuring he wouldn't miss. Once more he snapped forward, his body moving like lightning, cracking across the long forgotten surface of the roads at his feet, spinning his weapon rapidly, as a means of distraction. Once he was in striking distance, he brought it around in a diagonal slash towards the face of the Turbine Beetle, before allowing the momentum of the slash to carry his arm around, and once more he attempted to impale the creature on the tip of his weapon.
