He might still be blind, but that wasn't about to stop Bing from earning some credibility with the faction. If he wanted to keep Benji and himself safe, he was gonna need some clout.

So, Bing found himself tap-tapping along a section of the electric fence with a cloth-wrapped wooden stick. The wood was dry enough that it wasn't conducting a charge, and Bing sure as hell wasn't going to try and find these corpses by hand, but the experience was awkward to say the least. The higher-ups had been surprised that he'd even volunteered to do it.

The stick finally hit something that wasn't dirt, and wasn't wire. That and the faint barbecue smell clued Bing into the fact he'd found what he was looking for. He noted where it was, and went onto examine the rest of his stretch. Lucky for him, that seemed to be the only sucker on this section of the fence!

Now for the real trick. Getting the corpse off the fence. Bing cautiously prodded the body all over with the stick, trying to get a feel for where the thing was caught. Once he had a fairly decent idea of where he needed to push, Bing knelt on the ground, and got to work.

It still wasn't easy, he could hear the hum of the fence right in front of his face. His neck soon cramped up from him holding it as far back as he could get, while he shoved and prodded at the body. It finally came loose, and Bing leaned a little too far forward, earning a jaw-clenching zap as his arm brushed the wire. He reflexively jerked back, landing on his a**.

His body tingled from the aftershock, like his whole body had gone to sleep. The pins-and-needles sensation had him climbing back to his feet slowly, but he hadn't been hit too badly. All in all, a success, he thought. Not bad for a blind guy.

Considering the relative success he'd experienced on the first try, and that all the other recruit tasks seemed far too reliant on being able to see, Bing tried his hand at cleaning up the fence again.

He was assigned a new section, and off he went with his handy stick once more.

It seemed to have been a relatively quiet day along this stretch of fence, too. Bings' prodding only found one corpse along the length of electrified fence. Poor schmuck. Bing repeated his earlier technique of repeatedly poking it with a stick to get an idea of how it was situated on the fence.

This one was going to be tricky. The bugger had stuck an arm through one of the gaps in the fence, and the other hand was still clutching the links. Bing took a moment to ponder how to get it to let go without touching the fence himself.

When he'd mulled it over enough, he settled on a plan, and got to work. The electricity would have fried the tendons into stiffness, but if he worked them off the fence, the weight of the corpse might drag the arm back through the fence by itself. So, Bing very carefully poked at the fingers, figured out where each one was, and how much he'd have to lift it to get it over the link.

He didn't dare touch the charcoal'd flesh with his own, so he used his stick to pry the fingers up. It took several tries, as the fingers would frequently slip off the edge of the stick. However, twenty minutes later, the hand was off.

But the arm was still stuck. Wiping sweat from his brow, Bing turned his attention towards that. This was a much simpler task, though. Jab the stick into the palm of the hand, and push. It took a good bit of force, and Bing had to be careful not to overbalance and fall on the fence when the arm finally did fall free.

It was very satisfying to hear the body finally fall from the fence, and thud down the incline on the other side. Bing allowed himself a smile, then tapped his way back inside for a shower.

Another day, another section of fence to clear off. Bing tapped his way out to this new section and began the now familiar task of finding corpses by poking the area around the fence with his stick.

Whereas yesterday had been a relatively quiet day, today had apparently been the day to try and storm the defenses. Bing ran into four corpses on this section. He absently wondered if the Security crew, having seen him clear off the fence the day before blind, had given him this stretch as a challenge. If so, it was one he sure as hell would meet.

The first one was relatively easy to remove once Bing had thoroughly prodded it with his stick. It had zapped itself, and fallen almost entirely on the other side of the fence. A bit of its clothing had gotten stuck on the fence, though. Enough to hold it in place. Bing carefully placed the end of his stick against the links of fence, close to where the clothing seemed to be stuck, and gently rattled the fence. While the fence had been built to withstand victims shaking it in their death throes, he didn't want to risk disconnecting any of the wires. Blind people and loose electric wires didn't mix.

After a short while, Bing heard a ripping noise, followed by thudding. One down.

The next one seemed about as easy as the last, at least from Bing's examination. But he received a reminder that he was working with a live current when his arm lightly brushed one of the wires. Jerking upright, Bing resisted the urge to shake the offended limb. Too close! Tch. Bing chided his carelessness, as he cautiously tested his surroundings with the stick once more. Once reoriented, he finished up pushing the corpse of the fence.

The third one was a bit more tricky. The corpse was still gripping the fence with two fists. Bing had to spend a good bit of time first prying the fists open, and then lifting each finger individually, with the end of the stick, off the fence. A good hour had passed when the body finally fell free.

The fourth was another easy one. He shoved the one arm that had tried to reach under the fence back on the other side, and then used the stick to lever the corpse up and away from the fence. It fell away, and Bing took a moment to enjoy another job well done.

Bing stepped out into the overcast light of day, and took a moment to look out through the fence. He could see again! Everything was still somewhat blurry, and even the weak light filtered through the clouds seemed bright, so he'd scrounged up a set of sunglasses. He hoped his sight would clear up eventually, but in the meantime, just being able to look out over his section and visually count the number of bodies waiting for him was a pleasure.

Well, relatively speaking.

Bing studied the charred corpses littering the fence line. There were a good number today, too. Rolling his shoulders, Bing stretched his muscles, and then got to work.

And he could see what he needed to do! Damn, this was going to go so much more quickly. The first corpse couldn't have been easier. He stuck the stick through the links and pushed it away from the fence. With no limbs or clothing snagged, it immediately tumbled away. Bing smiled confidently, and moved onto the next one.

But he was overestimating the use of his eyes. On the next corpse, he was so busy studying the features on the corpse, that he brushed a hand against the wire, and jerked backward with a yell. Damn! His whole arm tingled and ached, and he couldn't put quite as much strength into the grip of his hand.

[HP: 48/50]

Properly reminded of how this job requires a keen awareness of how close to death you are, Bing moved onto the third crispy critter. His weak hand made it a little more difficult, but the body was soon sent tumbling away. Satisfied that he'd learned his lesson, he moved onto the next one.

And promptly grazed his leg on the wire. One short, jittery dance later, Bing cursed himself for a snot-nosed rube, and returned to the task. It was the last corpse, but it was also the most entangled on the fence. Mindful that he'd messed up twice now, Bing was careful to keep tabs on all of his limbs, and a tight reign on his temper. Once the damn thing was pried loose, though, he might have pushed it away with a bit more force than strictly necessary.

Not one to leave a job done badly, Bing volunteered to go out to a new section almost immediately. Zapped or no, though, all this work was doing wonders for his standing with Security. Just like he wanted.

Bing headed out to the new section, marveling once more at how much easier it was when he didn't have to examine every inch of the ground around the fence with a stick. Not that he'd left the stick behind. It had proven to be handy when he needed to pry fried zombie fingers off the fence.

Just the one zombie this time. Bing shrugged and walked over to the corpse. He'd take his time with this one, since there weren't any others to occupy his time.

It was pretty well entangled with the fence, so Bing got to work. One limb was untwisted, and shoved back through the links. Its clothing had gotten snagged on the wire, so he carefully poked at it with the stick until it fell, or tore away. The last limb was going to be tricky though. The zombie had apparently made it a little ways up the fence before finally succumbing to the electricity. One hand was still gnarled around the wires a good foot above Bing's head.

Bing did what he could to poke the fingers loose with the stick, but it wasn't easy. He reached higher, standing on his tip toes, more and more concentration going into the task, and not enough on his proximity to the fence.

BZZZZAAAAAAAAP!!!

Bing flew backwards, hitting the ground hard. He jittered uncontrolled for a moment before he regained use of his limbs. Groaning, he staggered back to his feet, and retrieved the stick so he could lean on it. Goddamn, that had hurt! He could smell burnt flesh, his burnt flesh in the air. He checked the body. Still there. Goddammit. Bing's head pounded, but he returned to the task.

What he really wanted to do right now was head back in, ask for some painkillers from the medic, and go take a nap. But the corpse was still there, mocking his failure. Gritting his teeth, Bing used the stick to knock at the body's fingers. He swayed on his feet, brushing lightly against the fence, and earned another zap for his troubles.

[HP: 34/50]

Letting out a curse, Bing, drew back, and tried poking at the limb from further away. It took a damn long time, but he finally managed to shake the corpse loose. One final shove sent it spinning down the hill.

Good f#!*ing riddance!

Another day, another corpse to push off the fence.

Bing though objectively about that thought, and came to the conclusion that now was just a very weird point in his life. Armed with his stick, he headed toward his assigned section. That fiasco yesterday had cost him cred with Security, but he was hoping today would finally see him promoted to Officer. He just had to do a good job on this run.

Just two, huh? Well, there'd been just one yesterday, and he'd nearly killed himself, so Bing wasn't in any hurry to come into contact with the fence again.

When he approached the first one, it was a tangled mess. A tangled, charred mess. But not too entangled with the fence, thankfully. Bing poked at various blackened bits, pushing them to the opposite side of the fence. He kept tabs on where his own bits were in relation to the humming wires, and kept a healthy distance. It took a good bit of time to push everything through, and Bing could swear he'd counted more than one person's fair share of fingers. But the last thing to do was push the mess away. Using his stick, Bing did so, and was surprised to see the body split into two separate fried zombies. Okay, that would explain the fingers then! ((+2 bars))

Pleased with his success, Bing moved on to the last body along his section. He started whistling tunelessly as he prodded at the corpse, prying it away from its death grip on the wires. When the last bit fell away, Bing overbalanced, and fought not to fall against the fence. He still grazed it, which prompted his body to jerk reflexively away. Shaking his head at his carelessness, Bing finished the job by pushing the corpse down the incline. He watched it tumble, hoping it would be the last time he was on this job.
