This....This was something she didn't want to do...But she was only twenty, she was in the middle of going to college, her relationship with Drew was as stable as it could be. Leiah looked down, placing one hand on her still flat lower stomach, choking back a sob. No matter how badly she wanted to, she just couldn't tell Drew. He would try to convince her, tell her how she would make an awesome mother, and how they would work with it. But no matter how much she wanted to keep this baby, she just...Couldn't. It wasn't the right time for them to become parents and as ecstatic Jade would be with the news of becoming an aunt, she couldn't tell her best friend either. Jade would support her no matter what her decision was, but ultimately, Leiah would feel like an a**; telling jade that "Hey you were going to be an aunt, but I couldn't keep the baby so...That's a thing right?!"
Yeah no.
So in the end, Leiah was in this one by herself, the worst kind of scenario when dealing with these kinds of situations. But since she choose to do this one on her own, she would have no one to blame but herself. The drive to the clinic was silent, deafening, and depressing. Much like her mood at the moment. She wished she could've had her mom come with her for this but she didn't tell her either. She didn't want to hear anything about safe sex and how having a child early complicates things, how having her early complicated her life...Or about how her father abandoned her mother because of the pregnancy that she thought would bring them closer as a couple.
A relationship that started in high school, ruined.
Leiah knew Drew wasn't like that, couldn't be like that due to how he was with kids, hell she knew he would make the perfect father. He loved kids...
That's what made Leiah come in the clinic with tears in her eyes as she checked in and waited. She didn't want to do this, but she knew they weren't ready, she wasn't ready. She was still crying when the doctor called her name, and she would still be crying when she drove home with the silence as her only companion.
In the days that followed, Leiah stayed home from school, telling everyone that she was sick and for them to stay away since she didn't know just what she had. Leiah wasn't the same for the better part of a year, pretending on the outside, but hurting within. The nights were hard even with Drew around, she was crying herslef to sleep whenever she thought he was already asleep, feeling like a terrible human being for what she did, even if she had no choice.
During that time, the silence was the only one to keep her company. She felt so alone...
Leiah woke up with a gasp, sitting up on the bed she shared with a sleeping Drew, pulling her knees up to her chest as she rocked. She knew she should've told him that day, but she figured it was best that she dealt with this alone. That was the biggest mistake she made, thinking that she could get through this all on her own. If she could, she would tell him the moment she found out she was pregnant, smiling at the look of shock on his face. She was sure he would've looked so cute, all surprised and worried at the same time.
Perhaps she should tell him now? Well, find some way to tell him since her jaw was still swollen shut. Maybe she could try to switch between attempts at speech, her notepad, and gestures? Leiah looked over at Drew and took a deep breath. It was worth a shot...Carefully, she reached out to him, shaking his shoulder gently. "D-Droooow.....W...ake upth..." She winced at how she sounded, and growled with frustration. She wished she had super healing or something...

He groaned a bit at the sound of non-sleep related movement beside him, and tried to shut it out. Sleeplessness was a problem for everyone, so he understood if Leiah needed to get up and go for a walk or something to get tired enough again to go back to sleep. But when she tried to get his attention, he sighed and rolled over to face her, lazily lifting an eyelid so he could see her.
Sort of.
"What's up?" he asked, though he didn't get up at all. He was sort of hoping it wasn't anything big; maybe just a bad dream and he could help lull her back to sleep within the next few minutes.

Oh how she felt so bad right now...Leiah frowned, wondering how she should go about this...She swallowed and pointed to her stomach, taking a deep breath. She could do this right? "B-Baaaaaaaaaaay....B-Baaaabbbyyyy..." She squinted next and grabbed her notepad, about to write something down only to shake her head and sigh once more, opening her mouth as best as she can. "G-Goooone?" s**t! That wasnt the right way to say it! Now he was going to think she was crazy or worse. Leiah got up and moved off of the bed, pacing. How the hell does some one say something with a bruised jaw that wouldnt open up all the way for conversation!? Leiah flopped back down on the bed once more, waiting to see what his reaction was. "B-bad dream..." At least that part came out right...

When she started saying something his eyes narrowed a bit, trying to listen to what it was she was trying to say with her injury. Eventually he sat up, clearly confused when she got up and started pacing. He made out two words, "baby" and "gone," but that could have meant a number of things. Was she talking about him? An actual baby? Did she see one go missing?
When she finally sat down and spoke again, it came out better and he nodded as he brought a hand to her shoulder to try and sooth her. "It's alright, babe, just try not to think about it. You'll fall back to sleep in no time..."

Okay so that wasn't the reaction she was expecting, meaning he didn't get it. Damn it...Leiah started crying in frustration, shaking her head. She would have to talk if she wanted to get her point across. Taking a deep breath, she began again. "N-nooo...YOUR baaaabyy..." She swallowed, grabbing his hand and placing it on her lower stomach. "C-Couldn't....C-Couldn't k-keeep ittt...Didn't tell you...." The tears just wouldnt stop, and she wiped her eyes with the back of her hand, taking another breath. "W-When I waaaaasssth s-sooftmore in c-college....." She was hopping this would get him to understand what she was trying to say. If he understood this time, a weight would be lifted and maybe she could sleep better...Funny, their baby would've been five years old this year...
a five year old didn't belong in the zombie apocalypse.

He was already half asleep when she finally said what she really meant. It was a great way to wake him up, though. Drew clenched his jaw from where he lay as she guided his hand to what he could only assume was her stomach and explained a little more. What exactly could he say, though? He could hear her crying but...well, he'd be lying if he said he wasn't even a little disappointed. Angry, maybe. Hurt.
He sighed and slowly sat up, eyes looking every but on her as he tried to think of what he could say...
"That just..." he started, then sighed again. "Well, frankly that's just a little ******** up, babe." And he looked up finally, straight into her eyes with uncertainty dancing in his own. He didn't feel quite betrayed, but it hurt to know that she made that kind of decision on their own. Even if they were in college it would have been his kid. Their kid. And just like he tried with her, he would have given that kid his everything...
"But who knows," he finally continued, "maybe it was for the better. I sure as hell wouldn't want my kid in this kind of situation, so..."

Leiah could see the hurt in Drew's eyes, fresh tears prickling in her own. She knew she shouldve told him, but she just didnt have the heart to tell him, get his hopes up only to stomp on them when she told him that she wouldnt be able to keep their baby because she felt like she wasn't ready. Not him, not them, we, or us...
Her
God she felt so selfish.
She couldnt think of anything else so she moved to hug him, crying softly into his chest. "S-Soo Sorry...." she kept repeating it like a mantra, squeezing him tighter, pressing her face into his chest despite the pain she was feeling in her jaw. She wouldnt want their kid in this mess either, but that didnt make the guilt and pain go away. She felt a weight lift, but that was it, what was she hopping for? A "baby I forgive you for not telling me and not letting me have a say in what you do with our unborn child?" No, that wouldnt happen but...God she was just sorry...

He was hurt, but how long was it now? It wasn't like there was anything he could do anyway.
Drew let her cry into his chest, let her get it out of her system. If she loved him the way he chose to believe she did then it probably was something of a relief, though he wasn't sure he could say what she hoped for him to say. Still, he offered what he could and rested his hand gently on her shoulder. "Best thing we can do is just move forward," he said after a while, then sighed. "It's all we can do, really. That, and help keep each other alive through this whole mess."
And that was all he really had to say about it. At least right then and there. Forgiveness could probably come later, when he felt he could say it and actually be genuine about it, but for now this was all he could give. Hopefully it would be enough for her, at least for now. He didn't love her any less for her decision, or any more for finally telling him. He just knew that he still loved her and, despite everything, that simple fact hadn't changed.
