Freshman Quest: Apprentice Guard Duty After certain events happening (right under their noses!) it was decided there were not enough guards to keep their eyes on everything. The goal of this quest is to start training for guard duty earlier than they have prior to now. All freshman will be assigned to a higher ranking member to show them the ropes.
Quest Notes: -This is a RP format Quest! No dice, just RP. - Choose one (or more than one if you'd like!) Scenario below and RP it out. - The higher ranking officers mentioned are random NPC's, just pretend it is some random member of the group mentoring your character(s). - You can do this Solo or in a group! Just pretend each of you is assigned a NPC mentor. - Make sure to make a note somewhere in your post(s) about wearing your Jersey! You are leaving the dorms so the Jersey is required.
Scenarios:
1: You and your mentor spot one of the infected getting a little too close to the dorms. Quietly look around for something (you're choice) to throw as far away from the university as possible - The noise will hopefully attract the infected away! Does it work?
2: Investigate a strange noise you hear. It turns out to be nothing (perhaps just a mouse or maybe a fellow team member playing a prank?) RP out what you find!
3: You discover part of the University where the lights have gone out mysteriously. Making a mental note to tell the leaders, you decide to check it out as well. What do you find? (most likely a false alarm! Just a fizz'd wire~ )
4: On the rooftops of the dorms you peek over the edges to the open grounds below- What do you see? Infected? Burning Objects? Other people? Nothing? Remember to stay quiet if its an infected or other people! No need to give away our position.
5: WILDCARD: You decide what happens! But remember, no battles!
Requirements: - Being as this is RP format, 800 words is required to consider this quest complete! - If a single person is doing this, write either a one post solo or a multi post solo-thread if desired! - If in a group, 800 words is still required per person total.
Rewards: - Upon completing this quest each person will receive +4 Credits! (If in a group EVERYONE needs to meet the 800 word requirement before you can claim credits!) - If you complete more than one of the Scenarios, add +1 Credit (Max of 5 credits total for this quest.)

Matilda let out a breath as she stared at her number four emblazoned jersey. She had received it with command to wear it should she go outside the dorms, but she wasn't expecting to need it quite so soon. The previous incident with the infected had startled no few survivors, which prompted the increase in patrols and security. That meant newbies like her were being sent to scout out their surroundings with a senior escort to show them the ropes. Her escort was a rather non-descript man with a bored expression. Clearly, showing Matilda how to patrol was the last thing he wanted to do today.
"Are you almost ready in there?," he yelled from the doorway where he was waiting for her to get her jersey on. The yell broke her out of her woolgathering and put a blush on her face that she'd been caught doing so.
"Just give me a few seconds," she called back as she hastily threw the jersey on over her clothes. With this, she was ready to go exploring. Walking out into the hall, she was wordlessly handed a stick reaching about three feet long and given a motion to follow.
"Once we get outside, we keep talking to a minimum. No sense letting the grimy bastards know where we are through useless chatter. If you need to say something, tap me on the shoulder or use hand motions to direct my attention. And for god's sake, don't try to wander off on your own," he growled as he took down the materials barricading the door leading outside.
"No talking and no wandering," the woman confirmed, hands on her stick as the door creaked open. While the smell of decay within the building was a constant reminder of their situation, the scent of death increased tenfold once outside. Matilda wrinkled her nose in distaste while her guide simply strode forward. Chasing after him, he turned to glare at her after a few moments or running. Stopping in confusion, she wondered what she had done wrong. His eyes went to her feet. Looking down, she wondered what he was looking at. He pointed at her feet, then put his lips to his mouth before walking away.
Just as Matilda was about to chase after him once more it clicked. Running. She had been making noise by running. Her footsteps needed to be softer so she wouldn't attract unwanted attention. She felt stupid. She had claimed to understand the need for quiet, yet she had broken the silence a few feet out the door. Catching up to him, albeit in a much more quiet fashion, Matilda observed what the man did. He checked around corners before proceeding. He kept low and moved quickly, but quietly. He tested barricades to make sure they were holding up. he had a small checklist of anything that needed reporting. He did everything with an efficiency that Matilda could appreciate. It made her want to take her task more seriously.
Walking up to one of the barricades along the outer edges of the wall around the school, she stifled a gasp when a board gave way, leaving a broad hole. This was bad! If there was a entry point, the infected would be able to come and go as they pleased!
Luckily, her escort heard the noise the board had made and came over to investigate. After observing the hole and its surroundings for a few seconds, he turned to Matilda. First he pointed at himself then made a hefting motion towards the wall, then he pointed at Matilda, his two eyes, and traced his fingers across the open area behind them.
He would fix the hole while she kept watch.
Giving a nod, she turned her back to him while watching and listening for any danger. It was nerve-wracking to just stand there, waiting for... something. It was fear of the unknown. She didn't know if anything would jump out at her from nowhere, and that scared her more than the sight of any infected or undying. Hearing a grunting behind her, she resisted the urge to look behind her. Matilda needed to watch their surroundings so he could concentrate on fixing the fence. That meant she needed to focus rather than let her curiosity get the better of her. He would be able to handle himself better than she could, so there was nothing to worry about. Besides, if they were under attack, he would forego the silence rule and tell her to run... right?
The uncertainty ate away at her, making her hands clench around her stick until they were a ghastly white. A sudden hand on her shoulder didn't help her state of mind. Giving a startled gasp as she spun around, she was met with her confused and irritated escort. She averted her gaze, not wanting to admit she had worked herself into a panic over mere conjecture.
Finishing up their rounds, they made their way back to the doorway that led back into the school.
"I'm sorry for the hole... and for getting into a frenzy over nothing earlier," Matilda apologized once the door was closed, feeling thoroughly ashamed of herself. She could have put the entire group at risk.
"What? Oh, You didn't do that, it was already lose. You just knocked it off its last hinge. Probably someone who was dying used it to sneak in or something, which may be why we had that group of infected in the bathroom" the man corrected as he stacked boxes and put boards across the door, sealing the way in or out, "and anyone would get jumpy with those things hobbling around. All things considered, you did pretty well out there for your first time. Most rookies get all gung ho about attacking zombies and s**t and just end up getting themselves into trouble. You just have to remember that heroes die young. Don't rush into a bad situation. With that, I've done my job for the day, see ya."
Giving a nonchalant wave, the man yawned and walked off towards the upper floors. Matilda only remembered after he was gone that he had never given his name.
