It was frustrating, not being able to take the elevator. She got her cleaning supplies and counted floors until she found floor eleven.

Ingrid looked at the key she had been lent and let herself into the appropriate apartment.

There were no lights, so Ingrid went and threw the curtains open as wide as they went, letting sunlight fill the room. Whoever had lived here had owned a pet once, Ingrid noted, looking at the hair all over the couch. Was it a cat? A dog? Looking around the apartment, she saw a picture on the wall next to the television - a cat, then. "Damn," Ingrid muttered. "Poor thing."
It felt pointless to clean this room when she knew the original owner was never coming back, but she rolled up her sleeves and got started all the same. She went from electronic device to electronic device, searching for batteries and putting them all in a small plastic bag. She'd turn these in later; she didn't want to get in trouble.
Finally, she began to sweep cat hair off the couch. It was easier said than done. She had never thought so much about how she relied on electricity until it was gone.
She checked the small kitchen and bathroom. There was nothing in the refrigerator that hadn't spoiled, sadly, and she cleaned it out while breathing in as little as possible.
She left the apartment with her cleaning supplies and a garbage bag, making sure to lock the door behind her.
