Hyperborea was out on patrol in a mostly empty shopping district. She felt the aura of another squire nearby. This one felt like a mercury squire. She wondered if it could belong to Mimis or maybe some other mercury knight she hadn't meet.

She liked mercury knights they all seem kind and intelligent. She decided to head toward the squire's aura.

As she made her way walking at a brisk pace she caught up with the squire an older woman walking with a dog.

"Bonsoir, I'm Hyperborea of Cosmos. Would you mind if I walked with you for a bit." She called out in a friendly voice to the squire.

Here's a start let me know if I need to change anything

Mistral was feeling fairly well tonight. At the very least, she'd recovered from the nonsense on the subway (she was very glad she'd decided to leave Mendel at home that day) and had her strength back, negligible as it might be. As long as she didn't think about how fast and how hard that lieutenant had fallen, about the crack of the fire extinguisher against her skull... well, it wasn't as though Mistral could be held accountable for that. She'd been boxed in. There had been things said about her starseed and its relative relation to her chest.

It was self-defense. And she'd seen worse.

She felt the other squire's approach - anyone moving towards her that fast with no one else around was likely on an intercept course on purpose. Mistral paused and tapped her thigh, Mendel falling into step beside her, and she turned towards the approaching girl.

"You can join me," she answered, although she wasn't sure why she wanted to. Mistral had never been particularly popular, and like the perennial bridesmaid she was, it was always a surprise when people wanted to sit at her lunch table.

"Mistral," she said, watching Hyperborea's expression carefully. "To what do I owe the pleasure of your company?"

Silverah
sorry had to make a small edit

Hyperborea walked up to the woman and her dog. She smiled at the dog, though it was a sad smile. It made her think of Arthur and she felt a sharp pang of guilt and loneliness.

"Oh nothing much I just felt your aura and wondered if you might like some company, aside from your cute companion here." She said gushing a bit over the dog. "Mind if I ask his name?"

The name hit her, Mistral. So this is Mistral. "It's a pleasure to meet you Mistral, I've heard a lot of good things about you from Hvergelmir and Babylon." She decided not to mention the things she'd heard about her from Sarras figuring it would be rude.

"Thank you very much for your ring upgrade it has been very helpful to me so far."

Mistral gave Hyperborea a sidelong glance. The squire was likely trustworthy, but letting Mendel's name get around had always struck her as a bad idea. "Dog," she said. "It's a secret identity. We're working on the disguise."

She cracked a smile - it was rare for gratitude for her inventions to make its way back to her, and she was always pleased when it did. "You're welcome. I'll assume Babylon gave it to you, if he's been singing my praises."

His mouth was going to get her into trouble one of these days - not that Mistral wasn't great. Mistral was a fledgling master of all things magitechnical, and no one rivaled her skill. Of course she was great.

"If you're a squire," she said, cutting to the chase, "then you've been around the block a few times. I'm sure you've heard some less-than-good stuff about me, too."

Hyperborea frowned a bit at not getting to know the dog's name, but ultimately it was Mistral's right not to tell it to her after all they had just meet. "Well 'dog' is a real cutie. Does he actually help you in battles?" She said wondering if it was really safe for a dog to be helping a squire on patrol.

"Yeah he installed it for me when I was a page. He's a good knight and good friend." She said.

She sighed, she hadn't wanted to go here but since Mistral had asked she wasn't going to lie. "I have, from another cosmos knight Sarras. He told me about what happened on your wonder and that I shouldn't trust you. To be honest I really didn't know what to think, I was a very new page and I hadn't even considered that wonders could be deadly like that. A part of me hated you, I thought it was inexcusable to not know the dangers of your wonder. But at the same time I wasn't there and I had never met you so I didn't feel right condemning you. As I heard more about you and the event, I concluded it was just a tragedy and that no one should be held at fault. I've never meet you before but I find it hard to believe someone who has earned so much trust in Babylon could be evil or untrustworthy. And besides I know thing or two about regret and tragedy now." She said honestly.

Did her dog help her in battles? Oh. That was cute. Mistral giggled at the thought. "No, he doesn't help me in battles at all. I try to stay out of fights... I have a delicate composition." Perhaps that had made it into all the stories people told about her, the knight too weak to do her own dirty work, so she got other people killed doing it for her. She was basically the boogeyman to some people, wasn't she?

Might as well own it. At least Hyperborea seemed like the reasonable sort.

"Sarras has every reason to be wary of me," she said. It was entirely possible that she'd misrepresented the safety of her labyrinth - she didn't exactly remember what she'd said in order to get them all to come. "Hate me, even. But everyone who uses my inventions is just as culpable in my actions as I was. You use the ring upgrade, you accept that it was paid for in blood."

She smiled wryly. "Which is to say, I'm trying to avoid a repeat performance. I'd rather have a reputation as a mad scientist than an evil genius, and yes, there's a difference."

"Je suis désolé. I hadn't heard about that." She was glad to hear that the dog didn't participate in battles, but she was a little worried that this woman was not healthy enough to fight yet was out on patrol, basically alone. What if she got attacked by a negaverse agent?

"Indeed." She said absently rubbing her ring hand. She would be lying if she said that knowing the cost of her ring upgrade didn't bother her. She wished she could have been there, at the very least then she would have worked to earn the upgrade but as it was her ring upgrade was paid for in the blood of people she had never met.

"I don't really understand what your saying but I think I get what you mean. I think its a noble sentiment. We can't change the past only the future after all." She said with a small smile.

"So what other things have you made besides the ring upgrades?" She asked curious about the other inventions of this 'mad scientist'.

Mistral shrugged - she did not need Hyperborea's pity for her condition. Perhaps she would improve a bit more with time, but she wasn't holding her breath. "Some are skilled with combat," she said. "Others with diplomacy. My talents lie elsewhere. We all have our roles to play."

She could not fight. She was rubbish at talking to people. But she could invent her way out of a paper bag.

"The rings, of course," she said with a nod, "Some improvements and repairs to my Wonder. There was a neat bit of tech for Babylon - he's calling it an alethiometer, because he's a total nerd, but it's the wrong color if you ever see it. It can tell what kind of knight a Negaverser would be if they purified, because I guess there's a market for that? Maybe he's shown it to you."

She smiled - it was very hard to keep from bragging about her own achievements and projects. "Right now," she said, "I'm working on an interface that will allow all knights and senshi to share information across a shared database. Someone did something like it before, but it's fallen into disrepair, so I'm aiming to improve upon it. It's nearly done."

She paused. "Hopefully, this time, it will take fewer dead bodies to make it work."

"Truer words." Hyperborea hadn't meant to suggest that Mistral was any less for not being good a combat, she just didn't like seeing someone physically weaker than most putting herself in harms way by patrolling.

Her words were almost the exact same words Hyperborea had used with Bimini when he said he was useless.

"I think he mentioned something like that but I don't think he's ever actually shown it to me." She had no idea what an alethiometer even was so she wasn't sure what color one was supposed to be, but Babylon's sounded intriguing.

When the woman started talking about her current project Hyperborea's eyes sparkled. "Cest incroyable! What a wonderful idea. That would help so many knights and senshi. If you need any help I'd be happy to offer my services." She realized she probably couldn't really offer much in the way of help to the mercury squire unless her work happened to need something punched. "Well not with the actual science stuff, I'm kind of smart but not that smart."

Mistral chuckled. "Once I'm ready to move into testing, I'll let you know," she said, leaning down to scratch her dog behind the ears. He was clearly a very well-trained dog, from the way he stuck by her side and didn't go wandering off. "I'll need to make sure the user interface makes sense. At least I've already got the rings set up for holograms..."

If she'd had to reverse engineer that again, well, she'd be even further behind schedule than she was.

"I'm certain you're perfectly capable," she said. "It's just that I'm in a position uniquely suited to being good with magitech. Mercury is a hotbed for the stuff, as I'm sure you've noticed. My past self was the squire of Mistral - the ring upgrade was meant to be her -my- knighthood project. All I've done is pick up where I left off."

She tapped her temple gently. "I knew it once, and I can know it all again."

"I'll hold you to that, this tech sounds amazing and I want to be there to try it out." Hyperborea said with laugh.

"Yeah I've noticed. Actually the first knight I ever met was a mercury knight, Mimisbrunnr, do you know her? You guys really are amazing though, kind of like the unsung heroes of the knights."

Hyperborea smiled at the mercury squire. "That's a beautiful goal to have. I hope you achieve it."
PostPosted: Mon Oct 12, 2015 10:48 pm

Mistral tilted her head to the side, trying to place the name. Mimisbrunnr had been at her labyrinth, she realized - she'd stuck close to Babylon, and Mistral had not exactly been in the most talkative mood afterwards. "Briefly," she answered. "Not long enough to claim I know her well." Or at all, honestly.

She flashed Hyperborea a confident smile. "I will achieve it," she said. Mistral didn't believe that anything was impossible - not after everything she'd been through.

Her dog took the hem of her tunic lightly between his teeth and tugged. Looking down, Mistral chuckled. "I have an early class tomorrow," she said apologetically. "As Dog has been so kind to remind me. I hope you won't be too put-out if I cut this conversation short. I tend to turn into a pumpkin after midnight."

"Oh no worries. It's been a pleasure meeting you Mistral. If you ever need help or just want to hang out just give me ring." She said giggling a little at her own pun as she held up her ring hand.

"Au revoir!" She said as she waved to the dog and mercury squire before parting from them to continue on her patrol
