Description: You wake up, startled by some noise. It's coming from just beyond your safe little shelter-- what do you do? This is mostly RP prompt.

Goals:

If you choose to explore the sound, you find that it is one of the escaped tarantulas, and it hat has managed to knock over a display of cardboard onto itself. One of its legs has been crushed already. It is an ugly thing, as big as your hand and covered in hair, but it is a creature trying to struggle and survive, just as you.

It's late, and through the roof the moonlight weakly shines, illuminating it almost mournfully. You could leave it to die. You could put it out of its misery. Or you could let it free, to roam. There's no point in keeping it: there's no way to trap food for it, and it is an apocalypse.

If you choose to save it, know that it will perish within 12 IC hours of natural causes, no matter what you do.

What do you do?

First time doing this quest? Please write a minimum of 200 words for 1 Arcade Token.

Repeating? Minimum word count jumps up to 400 in order to claim your 1 Arcade Token.

Feeling wordy? Go above and beyond the bare minimum for additional tokens! These token bonuses do not stack, so you can't write 100 words to claim 1 token, then add 300 words to claim 2 more tokens.

500 words = 2 Arcade Tokens.
600 words = 3 Arcade Tokens.
700 words = 4 Arcade Tokens.
800 words = 5 Arcade Tokens.

She was tired, a faint hue of grey encircled the area beneath her grey eyes, thus she took a nap at her base which already turned into the temporary infirmary for the injured in the bandit raid. Though she told Jeff it's fine, the minor headache went on following her and it hindered her usual judgement. Her thought was taking a nap to get herself better and replenish the energy she spent, she didn't eat for two days, besides the bag of candies she found. She couldn't bother with whether they were infected or not, she needed the energy from foods.

Elliot had been wandering - he found there wasn't much else to do at current. People were organising this and that and the commotion of the bandit attack had a lot of people on edge. The newly formed 'infirmary' seemed to be the only place to get some peace and quiet - those working in there were sure to keep things quiet for their patients (or those needing a good rest). That was why he found himself here, nestled in a corner like a few others before him - including the girl from the bar who he hadn't gotten the name of.

He wasn't sure how long he'd been asleep when the crash woke him up. The infirmary was empty aside from him and bar-girl and he sat up, looking around for infected.
"Psst," he whispered to the girl, shuffling towards her and nudging her a little. "Did you hear that?"

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF MY CHARACTER Elliot is tall (6'0") with a slim, athletic but doesn't need to work out cause he's that kind of a*****e build. His hair is light brown and is long enough to tie back and he wears it in a man bun (no ragrets). Often seen with a dopey grin.

When she woke up, it was already night. No, there was no windows in the shop but there was a clock hung on the wall. Bleary-eyed, she fiddled for the glasses in her bag and put on. Gretel never expected to share her room with someone, but it was the friendly bar-boy so she calmly accepted. Putting her bat plushie down, the girl surely not in a good mood frowned at her front.

"Yes, I do. Not the infected, they won't make small noises like that," Gretel said in composed voice, "Just in case, grab your stuff and we'll check." She reluctantly put on her uniform, that was a duck beanie and put her bag onto her shoulder. "Let's go." The sound was from outside the storage room, they had to walk out to have a look.

Elliot shuffled back to his sleeping place and shouldered his bag. His uniform - a pair of oversized glasses with a fake nose and moustache - was tucked into his shirt. It was true that the infect made a lot more noise than that and he was grateful for bar-girl being the sensible one. But still.. He gulped as his stomach roiled - the thought of seeing them.. blood and flesh hanging.. The sounds.. The smell.. He gagged a little and tried to pass it off as a cough but wasn't sure he was successful.

"Lead the way, uh.. I don't know your name, sorry," was it cowardly of him to have the girl go first? Surely a man should step up and take charge. He wanted to - he wanted so badly to not be a coward. He shifted a little. "I'm Elliot, by the way. I think we met at the bar before the bandits came,"

Compared to Elliot, Gretel was pretty chilled. "Gretel. We did meet at the bar, then I went out for some tasks just to come back and knocked out by one of the bandits." The girl adjusted her lavender glasses and nodded. She didn't mind taking the lead, actually she would be the one sacrificed people for her own survival. For people, she meant strangers and trivial people that she barely knew.

There was something moving, she immediately recalled someone said about the pets escaped from the cages of pet store. The black thing twitched and she decided to get closer. She stopped at around five steps from the object, turned around. "I know what it is."

Elliot saw Gretel's eyes move towards the pet store and he raised a brow slightly. Surely all the pets had been freed by now - he knew in previous raids people had come through. Had some been forgotten? He'd become a little braver at the thought of a little puppy or kitten frightened and alone. He took a few steps forward and tried to peek past Gretel to see what it was. He was brave but he wasn't that brave.

"Wh-what is it?" Great, he thought to himself. You could at least pretend to not be a coward. He could see something shuffling around and while he was now certain it wasn't an infected he was still a little on edge. "Maybe we should leave it.."

"You wanna know?" She flatly said, stepped out from the bar-boy behind her back. She was thinking if the boy was a bit scaredy-cat, he seemed cheerful and well, it unfitted with his impression. The bar-girl wondered what his occupation was. She suddenly recalled a memory: Girls screamed from their lungs when an unknown insect appeared in the classroom. She peeked at Elliot, hoping the guy won't react as badly as them.

Since her back was blocking the view, Elliot couldn't see clearly what she was doing. "Just a lost pet." In fact, Gretel was pushing a cardboard up and rescued the poor creature behind it. She carefully shoved it on top of the cardboard and turned around.

"Tarantula, it's harmless." Gretel held the cardboard to the bar-boy, collected.
