The first few weeks of being trapped inside the mall hadn't been downright terrible, they had all been able to swap out clothing from a few of the unlocked and unlooted stores, those still deemed somewhat safe. But after a while, especially with the lack of soap or means to clean anything, that whole thing just didn't get anywhere. Lease tried to keep a straight face about it, and was caught in thought about what Tumblr would have to say about this; would they have approved of the smell, saying it was a basic human right or would they have gone off about the unsanitary conditions?
Either way, this month into captivity was just getting a bit much and with the unlocking of more potential doors, perhaps the teenage could at least do something about it. She could look very rebellious about it too, if she simply just made herself a mask.
Her home base of Spencers probably had something in there that was left. Thongs for sure, but she knew for sure she wasn't going to even try to use one of those horrible things and put it on her face. She'd search elsewhere.
There was one store in particular that possibly could have something of use - though, actually there could be several - but the teenager actually decided on heading towards the Toys R Us. The smaller doll clothing would be helpful in making something that fit upon her face comfortably and there bound to be a few doctor playsets somewhere scattered about.
Lease wandered a few of the aisles and made a face once she got down the glaringly pink section that "belonged" to the girls. She grabbed a Doc McStuffins playset and the little Doc costumes and then wandered towards the "boy" section to see if they had anything else that could work. She grabbed a parachute guy along the way.

Building just the mask seemed like a solution enough for the teenager. It would block out the smells in the least which would be a relief. But walking back down the wide center of the mall, she noticed a few others who were also building similar devices (all with supplies from various stores) and discussing other options and additions to help relieve the horrible collective body odor that had taken root in the mall.
They were talking about adding more pleasant scents to their masks and while Lease didn't care much for the collective hive mind at best, that honestly didn't seem to terrible an idea of itself. (At least they weren't talking about the lies that were building about what was going on outside. Aside from those bandits. That seemed actually pretty real).
Those girls seemed to be heading towards one of the various clothing stores in search of cheap perfumes to allow them to inhale the scents that normally would make them smell like baby prostitutes. One had the idea of heading to the florist shop, which didn't seem all that bad but Lease headed in a different direction after eavesdropping on their conversation.
She headed to the teashop that hopefully had some items still in it. It wasn't like they could really brew anything, least drink from the water supply, so it was probably pretty safe.
Which proved true for the most part. Things were damaged and smashed like in most of the stores, even those not heavily as looted. Some of the more edible items had been taken some time ago, most likely, but a lot of the teas remained in place. Relatively.
Lease grabbed a few of the bagged teas along with a few of the loose ones and a strainer just in case. The containers were at least neat looking and maybe if those rumors were true about the release in less than a week's time, she would be able to have a little more in her tea collection. (if that was the case, she decided to take a teapot as well).

Though lacking in a lot of useful things, especially for craft projects such as this, Spencers at least helped with decorating her new mask. That would have to come after she managed to get the thing together though so she took a quick detour to the craft store and grabbed what she could. She was thankfully handy with a needle and thread but safety pins would really have been her specialty. Thankfully there was a pack. Even if it was covered in glitter.
She retreated to her new abode and settled into her IKEA tent and got to work. The parachute she had gotten was going to work as the outer layer, so she dissembled the toy from the little soldier first and threw the plastic toy into one of the piles in the corner. That part would have to be decorated. Thankfully there was all that blacklight paint and those earplug studs that could do that. The Doc McStuffins items were torn apart and arranged to their usefulness.
The smaller piece of cloth would be used as a little packet for the tea and be disposable when it was not of use or the smell got on her nerves. She placed that on the parachute and then placed one of the larger costume pieces from the Doc set on top. The cotton was more comfortable against her face and easier to breath through, she had found. It was all sewn together, with a small spot - where she could take out the tea - was held together by the safety pin. The fit wasn't too terrible when she sized it against the lower half of her face, just a small adjustment was needed with the strings tied behind her head.
Base construction done, all she needed to do was decorate now.
