Freshman Quest: Apprentice Guard Duty After certain events happening (right under their noses!) it was decided there were not enough guards to keep their eyes on everything. The goal of this quest is to start training for guard duty earlier than they have prior to now. All freshman will be assigned to a higher ranking member to show them the ropes.
Quest Notes: -This is a RP format Quest! No dice, just RP. - Choose one (or more than one if you'd like!) Scenario below and RP it out. - The higher ranking officers mentioned are random NPC's, just pretend it is some random member of the group mentoring your character(s). - You can do this Solo or in a group! Just pretend each of you is assigned a NPC mentor. - Make sure to make a note somewhere in your post(s) about wearing your Jersey! You are leaving the dorms so the Jersey is required.
Scenarios:
1: You and your mentor spot one of the infected getting a little too close to the dorms. Quietly look around for something (you're choice) to throw as far away from the university as possible - The noise will hopefully attract the infected away! Does it work?
2: Investigate a strange noise you hear. It turns out to be nothing (perhaps just a mouse or maybe a fellow team member playing a prank?) RP out what you find!
3: You discover part of the University where the lights have gone out mysteriously. Making a mental note to tell the leaders, you decide to check it out as well. What do you find? (most likely a false alarm! Just a fizz'd wire~ )
4: On the rooftops of the dorms you peek over the edges to the open grounds below- What do you see? Infected? Burning Objects? Other people? Nothing? Remember to stay quiet if its an infected or other people! No need to give away our position.
5: WILDCARD: You decide what happens! But remember, no battles!
Requirements: - Being as this is RP format, 800 words is required to consider this quest complete! - If a single person is doing this, write either a one post solo or a multi post solo-thread if desired! - If in a group, 800 words is still required per person total.
Rewards: - Upon completing this quest each person will receive +4 Credits! (If in a group EVERYONE needs to meet the 800 word requirement before you can claim credits!) - If you complete more than one of the Scenarios, add +1 Credit (Max of 5 credits total for this quest.)

All things considered they had lucked out with the washroom incident so it made sense to Cecil that guard duty was now apart of their regular routine. He wasn't sure how helpful he would be but he would certainly do his best. It was important to look out for everyone in their group but there were a few he hoped would stay well within the safety of the university.
Putting on the jersey that was now required of them Cecil shimmied it into place down his torso. While it was a large it was still a little tight across the chest and just barely covered his stomach. At least he had another shirt on underneath but he really wondered if that was enough. A little self conscious about it he threw a flannel button up over top of the whole thing but at least left the number in the front exposed. It was far from fashionable but it was doubtful anything like that mattered anymore.
Appropriately numbered he headed off to meet with whoever he had been paired with, hoping he wasn't running late. His cell phone had been his only real source of telling the time and that had been lost a month ago.

In spite of what happened, the bathroom incident was probably the last thing on Rook's mind. If anything the red head looked positively excited that the event had led to them going outside. Even if it was just for training.
"Oh hey! Cecil!" He called, starting to wave, only to stop just long enough to tie his hoodie around his waist. New rules after all. His newly acquired jersey had to be clearly visible for others to see. Otherwise, it was entirely possible he could be cast out as a possible infected and that wasn't something he'd want to risk. "I didn't think you'd be out here. Though," He gave him quick look up and down. "I think you've already outgrown your jersey. Seriously man, contain those things." He motioned towards the abs, though it was clear from the look on his face that he was merely teasing him.

As he grew closer to his destination he saw Rook in the distance and the mentor he had been paired with not far behind him. With a smile he rose his hand in greeting focusing on Rook first. "Hey!" His smile remained in place as he stepped up beside Rook though it soon became a little more awkward as the boy pointed out an obvious flaw with his shirt. "No need to be jealous of all of this, Rook." But despite his teasing tone he still pulled a bit at the bottom of the jersey.
"So it looks like we're paired up today, yeah?" His gaze drifted around the area still at a loss for how quiet the university had become. Though he wondered if it would stay that way on their adventure.
When his mentor finally caught up they too looked out over the area in thought. "We should just patrol for now, but lets stick together. Let's head this way toward the university."
Cecil didn't have much to argue about that and looked to Rook to see his thoughts on the matter. "I'm assuming your up for a stroll."

"Oh, well my apologies." There was an exaggerated sigh as he threw his arms up in the air. "We can't all outgrow our clothes for the sake of those washboard abs. I mean, really, some of us have to be practical." He waved airily and stuck his nose in the air, wrinkling it shortly after. "Besides, its getting colder out. At least me and my body fit snugly into our nice warm clothes." He did, however, make a mental note to at least try and find a long sleeved shirt, or something, that Cecil could wear under the Jersey.
"Looks like. What did you deserve to such a punishment, eh? Did you piss someone off?" He asked, elbowing the taller man lightly with a grin. Clearly Rook was well aware of how many didn't find his company all that enjoyable. Namely a certain unicorn. He on the other hand, took great pleasure in the company of others.
By the time Cecil's mentor caught up and a brief exchange was passed between them and his own mentor, Rook was fidgeting; eagerly awaiting to get started.
"Well its that or I make you all suffer my amazing cooking skills." Amazingly bad perhaps. "But yeah, anything to get out and properly stretch my legs a bit. Make sure you don't catch a cold, eh?" He emphasized the point by delivering a hard poke of his finger against Cecil's exposed skin.
Now that they were all gathered, his own mentor, gestured for them to move and added, "And for the sake of us all, keep quiet."

Cecil's smile grew the longer Rook spoke, more amused than anything by his words. "I am at a bit of a disadvantage I admit." He chuckled. "But we can't all be lucky enough to be able to shop in the kid's section." Normally Cecil wasn't very sassy but it seemed Rook had learned to bring out the best in the taller man. At least he was playful about it, trying to keep the tone light and not hurt feelings.
"Oh come off it, you're not bad at all." Cecil gave Rook a playful shove in return for the elbowing. "You're just full of more energy than some can handle that's all."
His companion's eagerness to get going did not go unnoticed and Cecil let out a small chuckle at the jab to his midsection. "If I get sick am I to entrust you and your amazing cooking skills to nurse me back to health? Or would that just put me out of my misery?"
But as soon as the mentor was calling for silence Cecil grew quiet and started to walk. For the most part everything seemed fine but not long into their journey he stopped when he heard a noise. An odd scratching noise, faint at first and just as it grew louder it suddenly stopped. Maybe it was just him?
"Did someone else hear that or was it just me?" He was on high alert now, remembering the incident in the washroom not long ago. Would this turn out to be the same?

Ohhh low blow, bro. "Hey now! I'll have you know, that five foot and seven inches is almost average for a guy my age. You, my friend, are just freakishly tall." He sighed, shaking his head and placed a gently hand on Cecil's shoulder, giving a look of mock concern, like it was a bad thing to be tall.
"Ohhh really?" Now he spun around to face the other student, a mischievous look in his eye. "Are you sure you want to stand behind that statement? 'Cause I am gonna remember that and I am gonna quote you on it, should I ever need to." He paused, picking up, what he assumed was the remains of a window and examined it; turning it over in his hand a couple of times and throwing it when he lost interest. The light crash of glass won him the glare of his mentor and made him drop the next item he had already picked up and was about to throw. Choosing not to incur the wrath of the men who were to be training him, he opted on answering Cecil's question instead. "It would probably--no, most definitely, send you straight to heaven. Aren't you lucky?" And by that he meant the morgue.
They had already gained a fair distance from the university when Cecil spoke up and though he hadn't heard anything, he did pause and listened carefully.
"No, but what did it sound like?"

"Almost." He had repeated the word for emphasis, smiling wider still, but there was no lie when it came to Rook's next statement. He knew he was tall.
But when Rook seemed more disbelieving than not of his words Cecil only shook his head. "You can quote me all you want. I'll say it again to anyone myself if I need to." And he was sincere about it. To him Rook was a good guy and he would stand by him no matter what.
He had to hold a chuckle back when Rook admitted eating his food might be the last thing Cecil ever did. Not a word was spoken about it, instead Cecil just hoped he wouldn't get sick. No need to test the theory that Rook's cooking would do him in. There were plenty of other dangers already.
With his focus now on the noise, or the noise that was no longer there, Cecil strained to listen into the silence. "It sounded like scratching. Like from the bathrooms last night." And just as soon as he said that it came again, the rapid scratch scratch scratch of nails against a hard surface. Or at least Cecil would assume. He wasn't as keen to know if it was more of the infected but that was why they were out here in the first place.
"File up and stay close," His mentor said in a soft tone. "We'll check it out together."

Rook cursed something under his breath and quickly flashed him the bird. But if there had been any frustration, which there likely wasn't, it disappeared in a devious little smile when he assured him that he would indeed stand behind those words. His mistake.
"Oh lovely. Well, that certainly sounds like something worth checking out." He agreed and fell into line with the other three. For once quiet as he brought up the rear of their little rag tag group. The two mentors had already taken the lead, leaving Cecil stuck between them and Rook.

Cecil followed suit behind his mentor, hoping there wouldn't be a moment they would need to hide. He felt he would be ill suited to simply dash behind something. Like a cartoon character trying to hide behind a house plant, that would be how effective it would be.
Glancing back to make sure Rook was close Cecil focused back ahead as they came around the corner. The noise had grown louder, clearer, and when they finally came within sight of the cause there was a pause.
"Is that it?" Cecil heard his mentor whisper, glancing ahead to find a small kitten clawing at fallen leaves.

The silence was almost deafening. Rook never did well with silence. It was like everything around them had died away, which wasn't beyond the realm of possibility either. It wasn't like they had seen any other groups lately.
It didn't improve the close they got either. He clearly heard the scrapping noise now and judging by the way the other two had visibly tensed, they had heard it too.
By the time they actually reached the source of the noise, Rook was the first to announce the obvious-- "ITS A CAT!" --in a very loud voice, speaking right over Cecil.

Aside from the scratching noise it had been almost deafeningly quiet. That was why when Rook spoke up Cecil jumped, grabbing hold of his mentor by the shoulders as he yelped. With wide eyes he turned back to Rook silently mouthing the word 'why?'
"Would you two be quiet," His mentor hissed, brushing Cecil's hands away. "We don't want to attract unwanted attention."

The cat was briefly forgotten when Cecil rounded him with a startled look, mouthing the question of 'why.' To which, Rook's shoulders shook with barely contained laughter, and he shoot his head, mouthing back. 'I'm not even sorry.' And he wasn't. Between Cecil's startled yelp and the mentors reaction to the both of them, he was having a hard time stiffing the laughter that threatened to bubble up.
He was about to ask if they could keep the cat, when the tiny feline's fur bristled and it bolted, kicking up the leaves as it tore off down the alley.
"Oh wait--sh-sh-shh! Something startled the cat!" He hissed, hastily motioning them all to duck behind the large waste bins that lined the walls.

Not even sorry. You cut him deep Rook. You cut him deep. Cecil tried to look offended but it ended up being more effort than just smiling and shaking his head. Rook reminded him a lot of a friend. A friend he wasn't sure what became of him.
"Funny," Cecil turned his attention back to the tiny ball of fuzzy playing in the leaves only to see it dart off shortly after. He wasn't sure what startled it but he could hear Rook making a fuss behind him.
"Are you sure you didn't just scare it-" Cecil was silenced when his mentor jerked him back with effort toward the waste bins Rook had pointed out. By that time he could hear it. A completely different noise than before. He lowered down into a crouch next to Rook looking to his companion in a questioning way and trying to mouth out a question. 'What is that?'

All traces of humor were gone as he pressed against the back of the dumpster. He had seen infected over the course of the month, but always at a good long distance. This was the closest he had even gotten to one of the monsters and it appeared different.
Seeing Cecil's mouth working, he shook his head. This was the first he had seen one of these. With no answers to give, he leaned his head back against the solid surface. All they could do was wait and hope it didn't detect them, and would just keep on going. Fortunately, after what seemed like ages, it gave no indication that it knew of their presence and held its course; dragging the claws of its overly long limbs against the pavement, before it disappeared entirely into the dark alleyway.
It wasn't until the sounds of scraping completely faded that Rook let out the breath he hadn't realized he was holding and glanced at the others. "I take it training is over for now?"
