Rufus sure did hope this was going to be a multiple choice exam. He
aced those.
He was sorely disappointed as
the Rorschach was placed in front of him. The examiner waited to hear what he saw, but Rufus took his time, trying to find the exact
right answer to please him and his judging face.
"Top part looks like a pair of lungs." He finally murmured thoughtfully. "And I see a smiling face at the bottom. Guess this means I'm happy to still be breathing, huh?"
Nailed it.----
He was not praised, but instead he was given his next question with no telling as to whether he approved of the first answer or not. Rufus looked a little annoyed that he wouldn't be getting
praised for being so brilliant, and he slumped at the next question.
"Do you feel like the prison faction is the right choice for your new life? Explain why or why not."
What the hell kind of question was that? Had any of them really
chosen to be in the prison faction? Well, maybe there were some that hadn't been
in jail who could leave, but he certainly wouldn't have chosen prison if there had been a choice in the first place. What a load of bull! He had half a mind to tell the examiner exactly where he could shove his question and his entire faction, but Rufus was smarter than that. He just smiled, and gave the simplest, most benign answer he could think of. Exactly what the clods want, he was sure.
"It's safe here. Safe, clean, and under control. What else could anyone want?"
Freedom, he bit his tongue to refrain from saying.
