Description: Malls are big, and there's more than enough room for every Mall Rat to make their home there, and your home can always use improvements! Collect some supplies, find a safe space to sleep through the night, and, well. Make yourself at home away from home.
Goals:
Step 1: MAKE IT HABITABLE.
You as a survivor need to find something that will work as a bed, something to store your personal items in, and a way to get some privacy for changing. (No washrooms, because no store in the mall has enough space to dedicate an employee-only bathroom). That and people keep taking your furniture to help reinforce the barricades... Looks like it's time to replace everything again.
Roll 1d10. If even, you succeed. If odd, don't worry! Just roll again till you get even. If you have to roll more than 3 times, consider it done, and you can move on!
Step 2: MAKE IT DEFENSIBLE.
Use any loose items you can find to protect the front of the store you've set up in. While most of the mall is safe, there are some shops that aren't, and you've got to prepare for the worst.
Roll 2d4 until they match. If you have to roll more than 3 times, consider it done, and you can move on!
Step 3: MAKE IT DEFENDABLE.
With another survivor-- played by a player or one you NPC-- check the strength of your defenses.
Both roll 1d10. The higher roll determines the outcome. If you are NPCing, the first roll is yours, the second roll is the NPC's. If the barricades stay up, you get 1 bonus Arcade Token for completing the quest.
Otherwise move on to step 4!
Step 4: MAKE IT LIVABLE.
There is an IKEA in the mall, and that means you get to raid it for furniture! ...Easier said than done, though.
Find the kind of furniture you want! Feel free to just RP it out and pick what you want! Escape the labyrinth: Roll 2d6 till they match. Find the boxed version you need to put together: Roll 1d20 till you get an even number. Put the furniture together: Roll 1d20 till a 15 or higher.
If you have to roll more than 5 times, consider it done! Congratulations!
First time doing this quest? Please write a minimum of 100 words for 1 Arcade Token.
Repeating? Minimum word count jumps up to 300 in order to claim your 1 Arcade Token.
Feeling wordy? Go above and beyond the bare minimum for additional tokens! These token bonuses do not stack, so you can't write 100 words to claim 1 token, then add 300 words to claim 2 more tokens.

Whistle While You Work: You can absolutely work on living quarters with someone else, even if you don't intend to stay with them. You will have to both roll for your own successes, but it does mean you get good company!
If there was such a thing as a store condom, she'd be amazed...And a bit disturbed, BUT mostly amazed cause wow what a lot of laytex. Leiah was tired of people taking the stuff she used to make sure the store her and Drew inhabited was as niiiiiiiiice and comfy as a Spencer's could be. Hell, some one took her FIFTH Daryl towel! She was starting to run out and god forbid should she have to use the Rick one...Ugh....
If only they had a Glen towel, or a set of Glen underwear cause unf that man...He could come to her rescue during the zombie apocolypse any day, boyfriend be damned.
Sometimes sacrifices have to be made Drew...
Leiah turned around to take a look at what little stuff she had, only to nearly scream in frustration. "EVERYTHING IS GONE AGAIN?! WHYYYY!!!? Wait...WHERE IS DARYL?!"
Leaving the Winchester, she quickly headed towards the Halloween Central to grab her uniform before it was only the silly and hilarious one left for her to pick up. Gretel reluctantly equipped the Minnie's ear headband onto her silver hair before she trotted to occupy a store that she would be sleeping in. First come first serve, she knew the rule well. Carrying her shoulder bag, she bumped into something.
She had decided in first sight Daniadown would be her lodging. The countless pillows and the adorable plush animals.....she looked around to make sure no one was watching before she happily rubbed her face against the soft touch.
Leiah was rumaging through stuff, hoping to find something good to make her now empty home habitable again. She didnt want to take a nap on a hard mall floor ever again! It was such torture! While she was looking for things, she jumped when she felt some one bump into her while she was bent over, almost falling on her face if it wasnt for the conveinient chair just chillin right beside her. Straighting herself with a confused frown, she turned around and looked down at the person, [Oh a girl!] with a bit of concern.
"Are you okay?!"
She gave the girl a once over and nodded. She didnt seem like she was in pain or anthing so awesome! "Are you looking for stuff too? Like, is someone taking your stuff as well? People keep taking my Daryl towel and I need that to keep warm! By the way, name's Leiah. I reside over there in that lone spencers." She jerked her thumb in the direction of her "home" and waited, trying to stay paitent enough so that the girl woman could speak.
She always did have a horrid habit of running her mouth too much...
The bedding store was looted inevitably, yet people were not stupid enough to drag heavy mattresses during an escape, so most of the stuff remained in the store. Thus she was lucky. She sat on each of the mattress, sieved out the one that was closest to the one in her dorm. Next, she picked some of her favourite plushies that would be her companion during the long nights, a long droop ear white rabbit with red eyes, puppy, bear, owl, fox to set onto the bed she chose.
How can a bed without pillows? Gretel almost cuddle each of them for a detailed test, one deluxe down pillow and several cushions for her pillow fort. Now she no longer needed to share a room with someone, she could fulfill her silly dream, she picked up the Log head rest and tossed onto her bed, scooted over to grab a set of shaggy frizzy cushions and let them landed onto her bed with a bounce. "Oops." One bounced off the bed and she went back to pat it a few times before setting it with the rest.
After a while, it seemed she grabbed all she could obtain nearby and she went out to check if she could get something for setting up a private corner to change. She needed to be quick as loiterers began to eye at the stuff in her store. That was why she bumped into Leiah.
Gretel stilled herself and adjusted her fallen glasses. "I'm alright," the calm voice said, "Name's Gretel, nice to meet you." The grey eyes looked at the girl she bumped into and sighed. "Same here, they had their eyes on my beds, I'm currently located at Daniadown. You could pick a blanket there if you want, I don't need that many." Nevertheless the minty cool voice, the female with a funny Minnie's ear on her head was somehow friendly.
Leiah smiled and nodded, having learned not to judge people based on how their voice sounded. In fact, the woman seemed pretty chill which was quote alright with her. Plus she said she could have a blanket! "Are there any bed sets left? Id be fine with just one cover but I have another person staying with me as well so I figured a set would be better!" She had to suppress a whine of annoyance when she saw some one making off with yet another item from her designated home area. At this point, she wasn't going to have anything by the time she got back.
Geezus....
Maybe she could ask Gretel for help? She seemed pretty cool, maybe she had some things she didn't want?

Gretel calmly replied as she tidied her clothes, "There were some people lurking outside the store, so I am uncertain if there will be enough left. The offer is there though." She bent down to pick up the fallen uniform, her glasses was important but not a silly headband. With a blank expression, she put it on top of her head again.
She gave Leiah a glance before she headed back, hearing the girl made her worried if someone stole her plush animals. Of course there were some rats, the silver hair student gazed at them with zero degree. The rats paused with their actions, put down what they wanted to take and fled under the coldness.
"Those on that one is mine, you can take whatever left." The woman with grey eyes pointed to a bed filled with cushions, some plush animals and a log head rest. As if Leiah already locked her eyes on the plushies, "They make the bed cozier." It might be an excuse to cover something up, but her face wasn't in panic or embarrassed at all.
Leiah could agree on that. She really just wanted a set though and some pillows. She didnt know how she was going to get a mattress since Sears was completely overrun and IKEA was just a death trap alone since people that went in there never came out...God they could be zombies or worse....Hobos. Leiah shuddered at the thought, looking around for the right bed set that wouldnt completely destroy her boyfriend's manliness? Scratch that, its not like he would care if the comforter hasd hello kitty on it or some s**t like that, in the apocolypse a blanket was a blanket not matter what it looked like. In the end, she settled on a set that was literally the last one of its kind.
She found some pillows that werent dirty, and even managed to find some sturdier things to barricade the store entrance with! She just needed help taking it there. She looked to Gretel with a smile. "Could you help me out with some of this? Im pretty sure if I can drag these shelves to spencers, no one witll take them cause theyre too heavy...." She was already starting to take stuff to the store, running there and back again a couple of times as she talked. She placed all of the stuff she found in a more secrative corner in the back room, thankful that every mall store had one.
"I can help you out as well if you see something you like where I stay? we might have some extra towels and such."

While Leiah did her picking, Gretel who stood next to her was staring at the entrance of the store, drawing lurkers away with her icy expression. She wasn't spending her time idly, she was thinking of what materials would possibly be good to put in front of the store. The folded gate was, of course, a very good protection but she couldn't exclude the fact that some humans or non-humans had monstrous power. Thus she needed to make it more defensive besides the gate. Spencers was a shop for questionable gifts and it was hard to say if she could find something useful before she visited it. The tables in Starbucks would be good for setting barriers, yet it was locked with infected inside. It made her worried when a potential danger was visible and would get all of them killed. The IKEA was filled with good stuff but they were warned people went inside didn't come out, it was like a monster lurking in the dark, waiting to swallow you.
During her contemplation, Leiah finished her looting. Without saying anything, she went to the storage room to push out a trolley which she indicated the brunette to put the shelf horizontally up while she held the handle to fix it. "That's a good choice." She hid everything inside the storage room, closed it before she returned. There was a good point that the two stores were close to each other, she watched Leiah transferred the lighter pillows first and at the final turn, came back to push the trolley with the shelf on it.
The silver hair lass followed the brunette to her store. "Thank you," she said with her minty voice. She walked along the alleys and picked up objects to check. "Can I have these?" In her hands were some dance pole kits. Gretel also grabbed the low display stand for merchandise as well as the empty bubblegum gacha machine. She went back to the bedding store to hide the new stuff before meeting up Leiah again.
"I'm going to Walmart to get some shopping carts, are you coming?" It was an invitation but Gretel didn't really care if Leiah would go with her. For weak girl like her, a shopping cart would make the delivery much easier and several would be a good defense. However she needed to find a method to secure them. Maybe a chain or a rope.......
Leiah began to fit things together in a way that would allow her, Drew, and select people in with no problems but give others a run for their money. She kept stacking and rearranging for quite awhile, smiling at Gretel and her watch behavior. When she finished and she was satisfied all of their stuff would be safe, Leiah nodded to signal Gretel to come in and grab some loot. When she picked up the dance pole kits, she couldn't help but laugh. "Sure! I tried to get Drew to practice his Coyote Ugly skills with one but he just wouldn't do it..." She sighed dramatically. "I had all this monopoly money to throw at him AND put in his g-string, but he just wasn't having it. Ill try something else though."
"Sure! I'll help you grab some carts! How many are you trying to grab? for more than one we might need a rope or something...After we can test barriers to see if this baby will stand up to some force." She hopped it would, she really liked how she had everything set up. Maybe she could show Lease and Drew later? Yeah that sounded like a plan...

The new door didn't look bad at all, in Gretel's opinion but she's not saying that. "Drew?" She didn't ask further, it was none of her business and if Leiah was okay to tell her, then she would hear. If not, it's not big deal. From her intonation and gesture, she could at least guess the "he" was a close friend of the brunette. Not being a party girl, she knew nothing of the term. Nevertheless, since they were talking about the pole, it's highly possible that the said skill was related to dancing. She wasn't far. "Maybe tell him it helps to distract the infected and keep him alive for longer?" She casually said, hair shone under the flickering lights.
Several pole kits were not heavy, a few more back-and-forth and she had done with her looting. "Hmm, some. I'm not sure for the exact number. One I'll use to transfer stuff around, and others would be added to the front of my store." She mused as her mind spun like a machine. "Hopefully I would find something to tie them together as well......" Gretel nodded at Leiah's suggestion as they went up to Walmart, one of the biggest supermarkets in the country."
Oh! She shouldve explained just who Drew was to Gretel before she went blabbering..."Drew is my boyfriend, and yes, I will have to tell him that. " She grinned and managed to grab some one to help her test out the barrier while they were disgussing plans and such. She was expecting a little give...However she wasnt expecting her meticulous stacking to just crumble under the tap of the persons foot, down it went along with her hopes and dreams of getting this all done in one go. She sighed and thanked the fellow mall rat before fixing up everything once more. Hopefully it would stay the next time she decided to have it tested. For now, she was going to help out Gretel and gather some carts. She needed a couple for her self as well.
"I think I saw some sort of sash thing in the store! Ill be riiiiiiiiiiiiiight back!"
Leigh dissappeared inside the store with a handful of sashes for a bachlorette party that obviously wont ever happen, walking next to Gretel as they walked to the now empty Walmart.

So Drew is her boyfriend, she would remember when she sees him next time. Gretel nodded in acknowledgement, she was never into romantic relationship. When Leiah came back with some shocking pink sashes, the student was mildly impressed by her efficiency. "It should work." She got one out and tied a knot with it before saying.
"I guess let's start with ten," after checking the rows of carts left behind in the parking space, she calculated and said. Getting the carts downstairs would be challenging but not up to an unfeasible level. Using the shopping carts tied in a line and assembled the dance poles, her set-up was ready to be put on a strength test.
Now that Gretel was all set, Leiah decided to be the one to test it. "Ready?" She kicked at the barrier with all her might, waiting to see what the results were.
