Cardio:

Always remember rule number 1. Cardio. Seeing how we have a gym at our disposal, there's really no reason to not keep yourself in top condition, especially during times like this. You need to do a minimum of 300 words among all steps to claim the rewards.

Step 1: Warm up
It's always important to warm up before you exercise. You wouldn't want to pull a muscle, after all.
Roll 1d4
1. Ouch! Seems like you might have overdone it a bit. -3 to your work out roll.
2-3. You've warmed up adequately. Time to get to work. No modifier.
4. You've done an excellent job. Your body is perfectly primed for what's ahead. +3 to your work out roll.

Step 2: Working out
Roll 1d20 and choose a cardio exercise of your choice. Running, jump rope, ect, ect. Then RP it out according to your dice results. Add or subtract whatever modifiers you might have had from the previous step.
1-5: You tried to work out, but you ended up hurting yourself more than anything else. + 0 Bars.
6 -15: You get a decent workout. Not amazing, but it's still something to help keep you in shape. +2 bars
16-20: Great job! You feel invigorated and strong for this vigorous workout. +4 Bars.

Cardio

Sylvi enjoyed working out, even during non-zombie apocalypse times. Especially during non-zombie apocalypse times.

But the end was nigh, and keeping in shape seemed like a good idea, especially if she wanted any chance of surviving out there. Not that she wasn't relatively cozy in the prison, all things considered, but it was, she thought, always a good idea to be prepared for the worst. Less unpleasant surprises that way. What was it she'd heard once - 'hope for the best, prepare for the worst'? Yeah, that seemed about right.

And perhaps the time would come where she needed to venture outside of the prison - or, worst case scenario, the prison got overrun and she would need to make a break for it. Neither were nice scenarios, but both were likely.

She started warming up, focusing on her body and attempting to block out the negative thoughts for the moment. Yes, she needed to be realistic, but there were points where overwhelming negativity wasn't a help, it was simply a hindrance. She'd already decided to do her best to prepare for a worst-case scenario, she didn't need the constant litany of things that could go wrong unless they were things she could actually do something about.

Priming her body was one of those things. Another was hoarding as many useful items as she could; at the moment, all she had was a towel. Not the most impressive of apocalypse stashes, she thought to herself with a snort. Something like a weapon would probably have been much better, but a towel was all she'd been able to scavenge. Later, she resigned, later she'd do better and get something useful. More useful.

She moved to another warm up exercise, stretching her muscles and focusing on her breathing for a few minutes before calling it quits. Right, this should be enough - time to get started on the main bit.

Cardio

She started off with a quick run, then moved to jumping rope. A varied work-out was probably best, she figured; the more muscle groups she could train, the better. Her experience with training had usually been at a gym, with a trainer to tell her what to do, but she wasn't completely lost on her own thankfully. There'd been a few times she couldn't afford the membership and had done exercises on her own or in the park instead; at least the prison gym was well-equipped.

In her time at the prison she'd mainly kept to herself, leery of other people and their reliability. She had trust issues on a good day, but the zombie uprising made them spike to new and heretofore unknown heights.

And, well... if there was one thing she'd learned from TV, it was that people died liberally in zombie apocalypses. She wasn't quite sure she was ready to get attached to someone only for them to die horrifically.

But on the other hand, this was getting lonely. Minimum interaction didn't suit her, never had, and the precarious nature of relationships made in the current situation didn't change that. Maybe it was time to put herself out there; TV also said that having a good group would be useful, right? Maybe she could find some reliable people and they could have each other's backs when it came to survival. Or just, you know, chat on a regular basis or something. She wasn't picky at this point, frankly.

Yeah okay, that was a good plan. She huffed, short of breath and gave herself half a minute to catch it before moving on to the next exercise. Continuing on for a while longer before calling it quits, Sylvi felt quite accomplished for her efforts. It'd been a great workout and having a new personal goal to work towards was pretty nice too.

Mental Assessment:

The prisons are one of the safest places to live in during the event; but those in charge want to keep it that way. This means making sure anyone who's lucky enough to be staying in a cell should be mentally equipped to handle what's in store for them. The first test any prison faction member has to go through is psychological testing; we're already filled with former criminals, it's too dangerous to ignore. The world outside is life-threatening enough; the last thing we need is insanity killing us from the inside, too.

These tests can be taken once daily while still in civvie stage of membership. This consists of one Rorschach test, and one simple ethics question. You can only do this test 10 times total, and you cannot pick the same Rorschach twice - nor can you pick the same ethics question twice. You're allowed to choose which ones you do, or if you'd rather roll for them, they are numbered from 1-10, simply roll 2d10. Just make sure you pick different ones each time.

You can do both in one post, or use separate posts for each - but you must have a word count of at least 100 words for each part, either way. Your internal dialogue can be as crazy or murderous as is canon for the character, but it would probably be best not to say you see yourself killing someone in the Rorschach test, if you want to move on to the next stage. (AKA, lying is OOCly totally allowed/encouraged).

What if my character sees nothing?
-This is a perfectly valid response, and yet will obviously give you issues when getting to 100 words. Thankfully, the psychologist who is administering these tests is very insistent. You are allowed to roleplay having an argument with the psychologist, whose only response to your problem is to try harder. He tells you to twist it. Turn it. Let your eyes unfocus. He will give your character every possible generic advice on how to see something, and they may still not see anything - but at least this will give you enough fodder to use for the roleplay.

Is there a right answer to the ethics questions?
-There is never a right answer for ethics questions such as these. You are an individual, and will react in different ways to different things. We will not judge or expel you for being scared. We're all scared. We will not judge or expel you for your answers if they reflect that fear. There are no right answers, but there are wrong answers. Those are the only ones we will be looking for. Answer carefully, and remember that our faction rewards respect and safety.

Ethics Questions Answer a different one each time.

1. You must choose between saving the life of another faction member, or obtaining a box of bottled water. You cannot do both. Which do you choose, and why?

2. You disagree with a rule that your faction has expressly stated. How do you react? Do you do nothing? Do you try to make change happen? If so, how?

3. Someone has said something against your particular choices in life. Do you confront this person? How does the interaction proceed?

4. Another faction member that you have not yet met is being beaten to death. How do you react?

5. Another faction member has destroyed something precious to you. How does this make you feel?

6. How would you feel about killing another faction member if the person was a danger to those around you / infected?

7. Were you loyal to any person / family / group / religion in the past, and if so, will this impede your ability to be loyal to your faction now? If not, do you feel like loyalty and respect come easy to you?

8. Do you feel like the prison faction is the right choice for your new life? Explain why or why not.

9. Your past records have been washed away. This is a brand new start for everyone here. How does this make you feel?

10. You have been forced to share a cell with someone you dislike. How do you react?

Rewards
You may claim 2 bars for the first time you take this test. You may claim 1 bar for any other day you do it afterward. (Limit 1 time per day)

Mental Assessment

It was a perfectly reasonable thing to request, and Sylvi had said as much to the psychologist with a half-smile on her face. Frankly, she was glad that there was mandatory mental assessments going on; this was, after all, a prison.

And the collapse of society and the undying walking around could take a toll on anyone's mental health, inmate or not.

"Now then," the psychologist flipped through his rorschach tests, looking up at her searchingly every once in a while. The cell that'd been converted into an office was bare except for the desk and the two chairs in it; and the furniture that was nailed to the wall, of course. There was the noise of other people, further away, but she'd been told to ignore that.

"Yes." She smiled, a wry thing.

The psychologist gave her a stern look and then slid a picture over the desk. "Tell me what you see when you look at this."

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

A blob, was on the tip of her tongue, but a look at the psychologist made her keep her smart-a** reply. No doubt he'd heard it a million times before and would not appreciate it.

So, she cocked her head slightly to the side and considered the picture. It was... well, a blob. Obviously she was meant to have associations when looking at it though, and after some squinting she made a bit of headway.

"A brain," she announced. "It's got the general shape, yeah? But maybe that's just all this zombie s**t going around talking." Zombie flicks had been on her mind a lot, so it was quite possible.

She looked at it for a few more seconds before leaning back in her chair, shrugging. "I don't know, maybe two fairies facing each other? Mostly a brain though."

The psychologist made a hmm sound, looking seriously at her and then the test before taking the picture and putting it back in the stack. The notepad he'd been writing on laid next to the stack and he folded his hands before clearing his throat, "alright then, next."

Mental Assessment

"For the ethics question," the psychologist consulted his notebook before reading out loud: "'another faction member that you have not yet met is being beaten to death. How do you react?'"

Once again Sylvi leaned back in her chair, slouching slightly and this time watching the ceiling as she thought. This was a tough one; her reactions would depend on so many different factors. Someone she hadn't met, but had she heard of the person? Did she know the ones beating them up? Did she trust them?

Was there ever a good reason for beating someone to death? Her mind told her yes, there was, but the reasons were few and far between - without knowing the altercation, she couldn't say if the person had done anything deserving of that.

Which was probably the whole point of this exercise. How would she react to a random person getting beaten to death for no reason she knew of? She'd like to think she'd help, no matter what, but she was old enough to know better.

"I'd help, if I thought I could." She weighed her words much more carefully than with the rorschach test; not because she was lying, but for fear of miscommunicating herself. "If it was one person attacking, I'd go for them probably, try to knock them out or scare them off. Two -" she paused, tapping her fingers in an unconscious rhythm on the desk. "I'm not sure I could take two on. I might try to draw them away, if possible, but it depends on the people in question. Any more than that, I'd probably lay low and get the hell out of dodge."

She liked to think she was a kind person at heart, but Sylvi also knew she was a realist - there were some odds that couldn't be beaten with just good intentions.

The psychologist considered her for a long moment before nodding seriously, giving her no indication of whether her answer had been good enough. It probably was though, considering he wasn't calling for someone to come cart her off.

"Thank you for your time, Miss Ravnholt. That was all." He rose, gesturing to the door in an obvious dismissal.

"Yeah, no problem," she nodded to him, not attempting to shake hands or anything of the sort. She just wanted to get out of here and get started on her duties - take her mind off things.

Medical: Medical supplies

As a recruit, your job is to do all of the jobs other people don't want to. These may be boring, or dirty, or just plain ridiculous. For those interested in gaining Cred with the medical section of the prison, your job is to keep the medbay stocked and organized. This is a tedious, and thankless job.

Step One: Opening Supply Boxes
All supply boxes are unmarked and in no order. It's your job to open them, and find the supply you were assigned to stock and organize. Good luck - it's a complete mess in the main supply room.

-Roll 20d10
-The first dice decides what you've been assigned to. See the list below. All other dice are your attempts at finding it. You need to find at least one box to continue. If you do not match your first number with any of your other dice, you must continue to roll 20d10s until you do. Each time you must roll to search must have at least 100 word count. Feel free to match to the list of what you did find as flavor texts for your posts.
-You receive 1 bar for attempting this, pass or fail. If you do not pass, you cannot continue on to step 2, and leave with only the 1 bar.

1. List of Supplies:
2. Bandages
3. Syringes
4. Exam Gloves
5. Bedpans
6. Catheters
7. First Aid Kits
8. Disposable exam drape sheets
9. Surgical Scissors
10. Thermometers

Example: I roll 20d10. I get: 5, 6, 8, 10, 5, 8, 5, 7, 6, 5, 2, 5, 3, 8, 5, 4, 4, 2, 4, 1. That first dice is a 5. This means I am in charge of finding bedpans. I now have 19 other chances to find boxes of bedpans, and lo and behold, I found five of them! I take those back to the medbay with me, victorious.

Step Two: Stocking Up
-This is the easy step. Roleplay in a separate post, your character stocking the medbay with the item you've been assigned to. They may go in the supply closet, or in the case of drape sheets, be put directly on the exam tables.
-This post must be separate, and 100 word count minimum.
-You gain 1 bar for this step, and it is mandatory to move on to the next step.

Step Three: Organizing
The supply closet is a complete mess. You can't just leave it the way you found it.
-Roll 2d6. The total of your roll must be between 7 and 12 in order to have completed this task. This post has a minimum word count of 100. You receive 1 bar for attempting it, pass or fail.

Rewards:
In addition to the rewards already listed, if you are successful at all three steps, you are awarded an extra 3 bars. You also receive 25% Medical Cred. If you failed at step three, you only receive 10% Medical Cred. Please keep track of your Cred in your journal! You will need it in order to complete Officer level quests!

Medical: Medical supplies

She'd gone ahead and done it. Spent the bars she'd saved up on becoming a Recruit, just after The Boss had announced the new chances to move up in the ranks. So far, she hadn't regretted it - hopefully she'd be able to do some good.

Starting with the medical supplies.

She'd been tasked with keeping the med bay stocked and in shape, starting with finding some more exam gloves in the un-opened supply boxes and then putting them in place.

Easy in theory, less so when one was confronted with the mess of the supply room. There were boxes everywhere, and checking a few of them confirmed that yes, they were all unlabelled. What was in them was anyone's guess; the first few she checked had first aid kits, syringes and disposable exam drape sheets and seemed to be in no particular order. Well, none that she could discern, anyway.

Which meant that she'd have to open them up until she found the exam gloves she was looking for. Making a mental note to come back on a slow day with a marker pen to label some of these, Sylvi set to work.

Thankfully it didn't take as long as she had feared and soon she had the items she needed. Well then, onwards and upwards.

Medical: Medical supplies

'Onwards and upwards' turned out to be less onwards and upwards and more finding the supply closet - which was, she realised with a sigh, as much of a mess as the supply room had been. No wonder they'd made changes to the infrastructure of leadership; with this kind of mess in a vital area, more heads (and hands) were clearly needed.

Lugging the box of exam gloves with her, she started putting them in their place in the supply closet. Someone had helpfully marked where the different items should go, although no-one else seemed to be following the instructions. She cleared out quite a few things that had absolutely nothing to do with exam gloves from the spot, putting them to the side and resolving to look into it afterwards.

It took some time, but the exam gloves were now stacked neatly in their place.

Medical: Medical supplies

Right then, on to the rest of the mess that was the supply closet. Sylvi liked order, and lists, and keeping things neatly in their spot and quite frankly this closet was a disaster. She'd thought about leaving it for someone else to deal with, but these were important supplies; medical supplies, stuff that might be needed to save someone in a pinch. Surely the doctor didn't have time to rummage around for the stuff needed in an emergency; wouldn't a neatly labelled, clearly separated and most of all organized supply closet be a help?

It would. So she set to work, first removing items from the closet and dividing them into separate piles - once that was done, she started putting things back, this time making sure they were all where they belonged. Grunt work, but it still gave her a feeling of having done something, even if it wasn't exactly field surgery.

That was fine with Sylvi; wasn't like she was aspiring to be a doctor or anything, she just wanted to feel a bit more useful around here.

Once again she was going to stock up the medical supplies; this time, her aim was bandages. Always a handy thing, except when it came to concussions.

Hers did seem to be getting better though. For a given value of 'better'; her vision didn't get as blurry as it had before, and she hadn't vomited in at least 6 hours. What more could you ask for?

Other than for the damn thing to go away completely, that was. Sylvi grumbled to herself, rummaging through the first few boxes she found - thermometers, surgical scissors and First Aid Kits abound, but no bandages. Perhaps they'd been using too many and there weren't any in these boxes?

Best not to leave any boxes unchecked though; with her luck, that'd be where the bandages were hiding and she'd spend ages looking around before finding them.

With that thought in mind, she surveyed the remaining boxes with a quick glance and decided on an order. Might as well go systematically to works, after all.

The next few boxes seemed, again, to contain everything but what she needed. After the first two she had to take a break as vertigo had crept up on her. Deep breaths, some intense counting and a few minutes later she was back to work, though.

By now she'd gone through rather a lot of boxes, absolutely none of which contained bandages. Blearily, she had the thought that she'd probably end up doing this for the rest of the day at this pace; at least it was better than doing tasks for the Harbingers, though. Less undying. She could appreciate that.

It was still pretty boring, monotonous work though - it would have been nice to have someone to talk to during the process of going through all these boxes, she decided. Maybe next time she'd ask someone to team up. She'd been getting better at that, more social.
