Anya sighed as she found herself handed and mop and told to help clean out. While she understood that the place needed to be clean to keep critters out, she hated cleaning up after others. She wrinkled her nose when she was directed to, of all things, the first floor main gathering spot. Hard wood floors so it should be easy.. right? She went and filled a bucket up with water and attempted to get the main hallway clean…. But with all the dirt being tracked in the water was soon mud and all she was doing was spreading it around. She frowned and eyed it before grabbing her bucket and refilling it from the bathroom sinks. While she didn’t like to waste water like this, it wasn’t like they could drink it right? So, with a small twinge of guilty she dumped the entire bucket out and hopped that it would wash away the mud….. It didn’t of course, only made a bigger mess! Anya growled and scooted her glasses back up her nose from where they’d slid down. She used the mop ore like a broom, splashing the muddied water out the front door to try and get rid of it.
She looked at the mess she’d made and sighed. This wasn’t good at all! She looked around and found a mat in the corner of the room, messy but hey… it ought to keep mud from being tracked in right? Picking it up, she walked outside and looked around, making sure it was safe for a bit. Then she beat the mat clean, holding her breath as the cloud of dust and detritus fell out of it.
Bleh! Gross… but better than no mat hopefully! She thought as she tossed it into the entry way.
She paused when she heard something, it wasn’t much, but it sounded like staggering footsteps.. a sound that sent a shiver of fear through her. Infected? It was possible… they were out after all….She quickly fled up the stairs and crouched at the top, waiting to see if anything entered. If it did she didn’t know what she’d do… hit it with the bucket clenched in her hand? Maybe I’ll just run up and warn others…
But luckily for her, nothing entered, the sound that might have been footsteps didn’t sound again. She peeked over the banister and eyed the room she was supposed to clean. Nope. Not happening! She’d got the mat cleaned (sort of) and got some of the mud off. That was enough for today! Her nerves still jittering from her brief scare, Anya headed to her room, hoping her roommate wasn’t there so she could just hide away from the world for a bit and but her fears away for just a bit. Perhaps she’d get yelled at later, but it wouldn’t be worth avoiding a lecture on proper cleaning if it meant always looking over her shoulder and peeking out the windows and door wondering if the infected were out there.
