Hopefully this is correct. Three dragons for 900 words, right?

After miles of flat desert, Red was happy to be somewhere with heights. She scurried onto the nearest ledge and looked out over the land of Eowyn, delighting in the view. “Yirho! Look!” she exclaimed to her companion as she leaned dangerously over the edge.

Yirho declined to look. The Darvithri had been born and raised in Ayr, but that didn't mean the bipedal fire-rat liked heights.

Red looked back at her companion, grinning at him. “Aww, come on. I know it ain't exactly like home, but it's at least not the desert, right?” That had been a pain – so much sand and heat and sand... Red wasn't looking forward to going back into it. So far, though, that seemed like the only way she would find her brother – down in the desert lands.

Yirho, of course, had no idea what Red was saying, but he shrugged. It was, indeed, better than the desert. Reluctantly, he looked over the edge, but his gaze was soon drawn by the great red glow of the flaming mountain in the distance.

Red noticed his attention. “Hey.” she nudged his furry side, “You wanna go there?” He did not respond. “We can go there if you want, Yirho. Yeah. Lets go there.”

“Oh-kai, Redh.” he said, nodding at her. He still had no idea what she was saying, but he had learned that that response – and going along with her – usually led to good results. She seemed to know what he wanted, despite the language and species barrier.

“Okay!” she said to him, slapping his shoulder, “Lets rest up and have some lunch, and then we'll see if we can't head for it!” she passed him a cooked meat skewer, which was gratefully accepted as they sat on the ledge and ate...

((Yirho is a Darvithri – they are basically violent fire-weilding rabbit people, generally considered lesser races and vicious monsters. Hes kinda... bonded... with Red.))

Cadmus hurt like no other. He was covered in bruises and welts from what happened when he had left his clan but he still managed to walk. At least his injuries were hidden by his clothes. The boy didn't have anything but the clothes on his back to his name but he did have a little bit of money that he had managed to save for a boat to the Celestial plane and small amounts of food. He didn't feel to hungry lately so it wasn't a big priority to him. Water, however, was essential.

The smell of food was what first wafted over to him which was then followed up by the light chatter of someone. As he drew closer his tummy squeezed and threatened to expel the nothingness that it held within it. Since choosing to leave his clan food didn't sound appealing and apparently, made him ill. Or maybe it was because he hadn't eaten in a while. Either way, food was not going to help him right now. The boy sighed before stumbling further until he reached the small camp where two strangers sat eating. Cadmus was taken aback by the rat creature as he had never seen one before and the young woman that sat nearby. For a moment he just stood there staring at her. What did he do? Strangers could be friend or foe and while he had met a kind Gaeili dovaa before he was still wary of others. Maybe he'd actually gotten less trusting recently.

"Uhhh." Cadmus said, looking a little nervously at the pair. What should he do? He glanced at the food and then put a hand over his mouth, trying to will himself not to vomit. That would be really bad considering he didn't know this person and they might attack him while he was retching into the rocks. "I didn't mean to. . ." He hesitated. Why was he trying to explain himself? "You're eating." He finished.

Red was always chatty, happy to put words in her companions mouth since all he really spoke was his weird chitter-speak. Usually, she got it right, though, and Yirho liked to listen to her voice and its inflections – he found it entertaining.

“So, yeah, its going to be a hot walk... well, I mean, for me. But its kind of a fire mountain, its supposed to be hot. Aww, don't worry about me, I'll be fine. I can cool down, see...” Her attention drifted towards the other voice. She blinked, staring at him for a moment.

Yirho noticed him and reacted a little faster, reaching for his blade warily. Even at home in the wilds of Ayr, his tribe had taught him that threats could come at any time from any place, and Red's world was full of threats. Powerful, potent threats that he had to face.

“Hey.” she said to the boy after a moment, giving Yirho a placating gesture. Uneasily, the darvithri took his hand from the blade. He was still tense, his tail twitching back and forth and his fur stiffened with wariness.

Red grinned. “Yeah.” she offered the kid – because it was a kid – one of the meat skewers (to Yirho's obvious displeasure). “Want one?” Hey, it was a reasonable thing to offer in the middle of nowhere. Red saw no reason to deny that sort of thing to a traveller... and she could always hunt more.

And maybe she could fight him later, for fun.

Unbenknownst to her – and only vaguely known by Yirho – a troupe of dragons, their elemental origins in her own homeland, were racing through the sky at the edge of a storm, delighting in their magic and abilities and looking for something to torment and kill. Yirho's ears caught their cries, but they were distant yet, and he didn't know what they were... not yet.

When the darvithri drew his blade, Cadmus' eyes widened and his hands rose in the air that he meant no harm nor had a weapon to use on them. The woman that sat with the creature offered him some meat on a stick after placating her companion. Should he take it? Cadmus eyed it for a moment and while the thought of food made him ill he knew he couldn't starve himself either. Plus it might help ease the strangers. He really didn't feel like dying today.

"Yes. . . Thanks." He said, coming forward slowly and grabbing it from the woman. Cadmus moved to a spot near the fire but far enough away that he hoped they would be comfortable. Or to keep them at a safe distance. Either way, he was content, for now.

"Are you traveling?" His hands shook from both fear and hunger, though the latter he wouldn't have guessed. It was a safe question to ask though, right? Cadmus wanted to find out if he could trust them enough to actually attempt eating the meat stick or not. He eyed them for a moment and then brought it to his lips, nibbling off a super tiny piece. Now to wait. If it was poisoned then he would at least be able to run considering the piece he ate wasn't large enough to immobilize him. Cadmus was also completely unaware of the impending dragons.

“Yeah, we're on our way to find someone, and he's not easy to find.” Red laughed, relaxed. Yirho continued to stare at the new dovaa, uneasy, though he continued his own meal. She held out a canteen to the kid – he was kinda far away, which was a problem, but hey. People were odd, and it was friendly to offer, wasn't it? “Y' want some water?” Though, if he didn't have water, he was an idiot.

Yirho's ears twitched – he could hear it clearly now, the roaring storm of dragons. He looked up and stood, calling out a warning as the white-pelted dragons coiled towards them.

They had found prey.

“Oo, dragons!” said Red. She gave Cadmus a grin. “Want to have a fight with them?” she asked. She summoned her icicle claws. “Looks like they're looking for one.”
