Beliefs and TraditionsBeliefs and traditions for the Furaha tend to get mixed up and mingled by the locals, so it's hard to separate what's a belief from what's a tradition.
The whole pride worships the Goddess of Happiness and no others.
There is only happiness in the world, and none may feel sadness or sorrow. Any lions caught being sad, or expressing dissent, will be taken to be assisted in finding their happiness again.
Repeated offenders, of course... Tend to mysteriously vanish. Hm, curious...
There are no single-parent homes, unless one parent dies or... Vanishes. Cubs may only happen between mated pairs, so if two lions have cubs, it's assumed they are mated. If cubs happen between a pair that's NOT mates with each other, but between two lions that already have other mates... Well, the parents tend to vanish, and the cubs are taken in by the Joy Guards.
The whole pride has one major prejudice besides against unhappiness and dark thoughts, and that's unhappy and dark coats. Coats should be bright and cheery versions of colors, from straight versions(Such as pure bright red, blue, or yellow) to pastel versions(Pink, that soft mint green, etc.). Dark and sad colors, like blacks and greys, are frowned upon and not tolerated, as are menacing colors, like dark blue and purple. Cubs born with such colors will... Vanish. That said, dark MARKINGS are okay, as long as they cover no more than 15% of the lion. Examples are as follows! (None are actually members, just lions of mine that I grabbed)
100% acceptable and ideal
All four lions are bright, cheery colors, from white to sunny yellow to cheery pink to a bubbly blue and prissy purple! Also acceptable are rainbows, in both pure colors and pastels!
Acceptable, 15% dark colors
Dark colors cover no more than 15% of the lion, mane included in this! The blue boy should really be swapped out for somebody else, I realized only in hindsight he's a bit too dark. My bad!
Unacceptable, too many Unhappy Colors
None of these lions are acceptable! Too many dark colors on three of them, and one is almost entirely gloomy grays, something the Furaha would find... Unacceptable. Cubs born with such colors would Vanish.
LawsKeep in mind that this pride is a
dystopia - While everything APPEARS happy and peaceful and perfect, many pride members do NOT, privately, believe in the doctrine or the laws. They're just smart enough to NOT vocalize about it.
All citizens must smile - After all, the Furaha is a HAPPY pride! NOBODY frowns in the Furaha. Even pain must be smiled through. Always remember to smile, it's important!
There are no unhappy thoughts - One unhappy lion leads to many unhappy lions, and many unhappy lions means an unhappy pride. Nobody wants an unhappy pride! Always think happy thoughts!
Only lions are allowed in the Furaha lands - Competition with other predators means unhappy lions... And we don't want unhappy lions, do we? All intruding non-lions will be taken to The Smiling Peak. Hybrid cubs will also be taken to The Smiling Peak, and the mother for re-education. (This is probably about the only one most of the pride doesn't mind abiding... Well, mostly. They don't agree with the methodology of dealing with them - They'd rather non-lions and hybrids be chased out to live another day, than to... VANSIH. But they're smart enough to Say Nothing)
A male can only have a female mate, and a female can only have a male mate - Cubs can ONLY happen between a pair of lions mated to each other in the Furaha, Lions caught flirting with somebody that's Not Their Mate will be lead off by the Joy Guards for some... Re-education. Repeat offenders, or those who have cubs with somebody that's Not Their Mate, will.... Vanish, and the cubs taken by the Joy Guards.
Citizens are STRICTLY forbidden to climb The Smiling Peak - Any caught doing so will be joined by the Joy Guards and escorted the rest of the way. They are also forbidden to go into the Smiling Cave, where the river comes out and the Council resides, unless invited in by the Council.
If you see something, say something - Is your neighbor not SMILING enough when the Joy Guard's not around? Then please report them to your nearest Joy Guard! They may need some re-education!
