'Art is in the eye of the beholder. Art can be anything to anyone. For example, my friend and I think differently concerning art. My friend believes that graffiti is art, but that necklaces are not art. I find art to be anything made by a person, be it a painting, a song, a table or a home. Anything that takes effort and time, with the use a medium of any kind, is art. Anything that is made to be enjoyed in any way is art. Art is entirely up to how one perceives things. Art is up for interpretation, it is different for everyone. That is what I think art is.' Ikki seemed rather pleased with himself this time, although he would have rather done a physical piece of art rather than writing an essay. Not that he hated writing essays, he rather enjoyed it. But when it came to art, he liked to get his hands dirty and draw or paint. Despite his essay stating that art is anything taking time and effort, essays weren't art to him. Novels and such, yes, but not a simple essay. Now if that essay became a basis for a book, then he'd consider it art.
The young Geist shook his head as he approached the teacher's desk. He held out his essay, looking a bit embarrassed. Hopefully, he'd completed the assignment properly and he didn't sound like he was rambling or getting off topic.

Name: Starlet Prompt Response: After his disastrous astronomy club posters, Starlet had decided to take an art elective as one of his final classes at the Academy. Learning to draw or at least some principles of art couldn't help his future career... could it?
The question had caught him off guard, though. He'd never stopped to think about what "art" was...
I have never considered this before. I am more science minded, I have heard that artists are considered irrational while people like myself are more logical, and to some extent perhaps that is true but if the definition of art is expanded to include anything that has been made by someone then I suppose there are a lot more rational artists than the stereotype would lead one to believe. I suppose then, that it would be logical to assume that everything we make is art.
I have heard some say that things in nature are art, as well. The way that leaves change color with the season, or the array of colors in the galaxies overhead. I am not sure if that counts... but a lot of artists that I have seen try to mimic these things, so perhaps they do. I wonder, though, if it does art any good to have the definition so wide that it encompasses everything.
He stared at his response, thinking on it a moment longer, then decided it was good enough. At the end of class, he set the paper down on the teacher's desk, then headed on out. Deskri did not strike him as the type to enjoy answering probing questions after class...

Username: Panda Moor Nightmare: CassiePrompt Answer: Cassie was not artistic. If her portion of the dorm could be considered an abstract art piece, maybe she'd pull an A, but thankfully, this was a writing prompt. This was in her zone, and the Fallen was more than happy to hash it out. She wiggled at her desk for a moment in thought before putting pen to paper.
Art is an expression of the artist and in some way, shape, or form, the artist is conveying a thought. Because feelings can be complex, not all art pieces are as simple to read as others and interpretation can greatly change the piece's intention. Even if the piece cannot be understood by a third party, appreciation should be given to the effort and treated with respect, as all viewpoints and opinions matter.
In order to create art, some manipulation of a material must occur. This can apply to drawn material, sculpture, and song because all three topics involve the manipulation of something in order to convey their point of view. Arguably, this excludes photography, however in order to find the right subject the artist often time puts effort into location, lightning, and the focus of the piece.
The Fallen slipped out of her desk, waiting in line to hand her paper in. Ooh, how she hoped they were only going to have a chat today. She wasn't even sure why she took Art as an elective, other than to try and look less like a bibliophile.

Name: Meris Prompt Response:Meris inwardly groaned. Then again electives did have lectures and still hopefully they would get to some actual drawing eventually. However wishing away wasn’t going to get the short essay out of the way. Meris reached into his bag and pulled out one of his pens, mindlessly chewing on the cap as he thought about the answer. Yes.. that answer would be good, he hoped. Art is a Nightmare’s passion, and their heart. It is an expression of their creativity and their imagination and it’s not just about something that they draw on paper. Art can be anything from sculptures of ice and sand, food displays, music, stories born from a writers hand, clothing and even Anything can be used to create art, whether its thrown away junk or even painted gum. It is not limited by standards; in fact Art is as endless as human thought. It will always be expanding and we’ll forever be finding new ways and new mediums and new pieces that we value as ‘Art’
Placing his pen down he looked at the other students. Luckily a few others had already turned in the assignment. He always hated being the first one to turn things in. Well he wouldn’t get a grade until he turned it in. Walking up he placed the assignment on the teacher’s desk before heading out into the hall. At least he didn’t have a huge load of Homework yet.

Name: Morin Prompt Response:Morin had always been interested in art in some form for another but he was never really good at defining it so a rare frown crosses his face as he was forced to figure out just what he should write for question. There was no wrong answer supposedly, but he wasn’t sure on the answer. You would think however that having Nasai for a girlfriend would make this all easier. Well maybe he could just write what ever came to mind?Art isn’t defined by just one form. It has many different forms from writing, to acting, to playing music. So it makes it hard to truly say what art is. There are the more classic forms such as sculpting and painting that most people would jump up to say is art. However it’s a rather shallow understanding of what art is. I believe that Art is creativity and a person’s desire to get their thoughts and feelings at the moment into form that they can express with the world. It’s a reflection of the artist and as such art can be whatever is created. Well that got a bit more philosophical than he wanted but it was an answer, that had to count for something. Considering Meris was probably waiting for him, he gathered up his things and the short essay before turning it over to the teacher at his desk. As morin wasn’t some one that hung around after class he quickly went to join Meris in the hall.

Name: Melisara Artist's Statement: My collage shows several of my interests all together. The tie-dye in the background represents my love for colors and for dying fabric. The hills represent my passion for my home in Zephyros. I added the fall leaves, because fall is my favorite season--I feel like it is the season of opportunity, hard work, and success. I enjoy reading and looking through books, old and new, so I included a stack of books; I added paper and gel pens because I love making paper and then decorating it with my gel pens! Finally, the wood carving represents my interest in anthropology and learning about and enjoying other cultures.
She wrote the statement up on a piece of her homemade paper, in a very dark but attractive shade of blue ink. She stapled it to the collage and turned it in at the beginning of class, flashing Mr. Meiann a smile.Collage:

Name: Yue Prompt Response:screenshotWhen first presented the game Yue did have to admit that her brain was struggling on what she exactly was supposed to be doing, unfortunately going to her elective class on less sleep than normal probably wasn’t the best idea. However she luckily caught on quickly as she aced Hue. However as the game continued on though she struggled a bit with saturation and especially when more than two colors needed to be picked although it was averaged out to a b at least. The game was also pretty fun although at times a bit frustrating and she wouldn’t mind playing it again some time just to see if she could improve that 7. Actually that 7 was probably going to drive her crazy but it was also what if she messed up her other scores if she played... ah she'd go with it...

Name: Ashlynn Prompt Response: Screenshot At first, Ashlynn expected the game to be easy.
It was not easy. Oh sure, parts of it had been easy once she'd figured out how the game worked. She'd done passably well with Hue and Complementary. She'd rocked Saturation and Analogous. Triadic had been a little tougher and she'd struggled to keep track of the tiny circles and which one affected which color. It was the Tetradic portion that made her want to cry though. After a frantic moment of trying to keep track of what circle went to what color, she'd finally given up and simply started to click things.
By the time the game had ended, she was grateful for the 6 she'd gotten as a score and had zero desire to try and improve it. Setting the game down and rubbing at her eyes, she decided that she was never again going to tease any artist friends when they complained about trying to match colors up to things. Not after this.

Name: Sascha Prompt Response: ScreenshotSascha, despite his best efforts, found the game incredibly difficult. There was just something about a timed matching game that sent a shiver through his chest and made him nervous. The way the color selecting tool was set up as the game went on only served to confuse him further. It was the easiest to match the colors when there was one circle for picking with, or during the hue and saturation levels, but once more he hit complimentary... Things went downhill fast. He found himself staring at his score when he was done and honestly felt too embarrassed to show it to Deskri. It had to be the lowest score in the entire class! What would they think? He shivered in his seat. "A-ahh... Maybe I should stay far away from anything design based from now on." He muttered, his cheeks flushed red.

Name: Madla Prompt Response: Madla thought the game was going to be fun, she wasn't so bad at colors. No artist at all in that regard, but she had fairly good eyesight and she figured the game wouldn't be too hard. She was mostly right. The game started out fun and easy...and then she hit complementary colors. She stared at the mechanism and tried her best to figure out how she was supposed to move the two circles correctly, but missed three questions while she was getting the hang of it. Frustrated, she got the rest of the questions in the complementary colors perfect, but she knew she was going to get a terrible score for that game. They should have had a practice run first. Still, over all she didn't do too bad. A total of 7.7 was decent, though Madla knew she'd get a better score if she could retake it. Knowing how something worked definitely helped with getting a good score. Especially against a timer. She'd definitely play the game on her own time later. score
