Class activities:

This class covers the basic functions of magic, acceptable usages of magic and will be taught primarily to Juniors, but Seniors can also take it if they don't wish to take one of the specialized magic courses.

Completion of this class grants the student an additional 5 buff they can apply to casting magics.

JUNIOR & SENIOR:

Aether

Starts: March 1st
Ends: April 1st

“Now that we have learned the basics of Channelling, we will start learning about specific Spell Books.
Spell Books are collections of specific magics that have been proven and approved for use. Some are useful in daily life, some are integral to specific careers, and some are highly specialized.

Today, we will learn about Aether Magic. Aether is the very energy that suffuses the universe. All magic can be said to be manifestations of the aether, but this artform focuses not on its application but in the direct manipulation of magical energy.

If you infuse something with more aether, it can become more vital, more focused. It is current magical theory that those known as 'Batteries' are born with a higher storage and replenishment of aether. But, think on what other applications direct connection with Aether could have.”

Rules:

1. Without learning specific spells, this lesson will be just to practise this general artform.
2. Roll a single 100 sided die to see what form your character's Aether practise takes.
-- 1 to 20: Energy Enhancement--by gathering energy, you feel a temporarily increase in your strength, durability, speed, or the awareness of your senses. The side-effects can include increased appetite, fatigue, headaches, and disorientation. You can sense that this energy will likely burn through you and leave you enervated. Take caution!
-- 21 to 40: Silent Speech--you find your focus rest in your mind, your thoughts opening up. You become aware of other thoughts in the room: you fellow students! Can you connect with any of them? Once the connection is made, two individuals (or more if skilled enough) can communicate with thoughts and emotions through telepathy.
-- 41 to 60: Tongues--by tapping into the energy of the world, you open up channels of communication. Suddenly foreign species seem to be speaking in a way you can finally understand. What do you hear? Familiars, plants, or perhaps the voices of the dead? If you are a Medium, this art will come as easily to you as breathing.
-- 61 to 80: Telekinesis--you use the energy you've gathered as a force to grasp and move matter with your will. The weight and size of the object is directly proportionate to the difficulty of manipulating it. Can you push, pull, lift or throw your chosen object? Targets with their own innate motion are more challenging to overpower and manipulate than stationary ones.
-- 81 to 100: Libation--you take your time, and eventually you manage to build up a rapport with the gods. By offering your energy to the Nine, you feel their benevolence towards you. Just think, if you were to make specific offerings to one of the gods in particular, you might even be able to receive a gift or blessing in return!
3. You cannot fail this class, but you may re-roll to try different effects.
4. Please update your post with your role play response of how your character finds the exercise, whether or not they were successful.
5. Have fun with learning to cast magic! This will apply to the eventual magic system we will be rolling out.

User ImageThis was a class that Zalir had been looking forward to many, many years now--their first class in magic. This was the gateway to studying alchemy in the future. Zey arrived at the class fifteen minutes early, taking a seat near the front. When class started, zey took extensive notes in zeir notebook. After such a long wait, the class was rather anticlimactic--basic things that zey had already learned. But that wasn't the point--the point was little things that zey might not have learned, and, more importantly, it fulfilled a requirement that allowed zem to take a more advanced class later.

Zey completed zeir assignment quickly and thoroughly, and was amongst the first to turn it in.

After such a long time of avoiding it, Victoria guessed that she couldn't do without taking the class any longer. She had a slight grasp on illusion magic, though still needed to perfect it, but maybe it would be a better idea to get a general class first? She sat and listened to the lecture, nodding a little as the teacher spoke, making mental notes as opposed to physical ones. She knew most of it already, making the quiz a breeze. Turning it in at the end, she wasn't sure she had made the right choice...maybe she should have taken dance instead. Oh well...always next year right?

User ImageMagic always fascinated Morin and he would love to study more about it if Music didn’t take up such a part of his life. So since he needed an elective slot filled it was only natural that he started out with a more basic magic class before going off to try some of the others. He quietly listened and made notes because you never knew when the teacher was going to suddenly throw a quiz at you in the middle of the quarter so it was easy to use his notes to finish up the quiz. After writing all the answers he quickly turned the quiz up front to the teacher before getting ready for his next class.

User ImageContrary to belief Meris and Morin did take different class periods. It was just a running joke that they often ended up with the same schedules. It did make studying rather easily since they often could study together and Morin did tend to absorb a lot of what he was taught, but Meris was getting off point. Meris and Morin had been roommates ever since they were Freshlings and Meris had first transferred to this school so it wasn’t too surprising that they both ended up in a magic elective. Meris loved learning about magic, kind of had to as well being a geist so he didn’t accidentally fade out or teleport or do some other embarrassing thing.

As such he took to the lecture with a relatively interested air and actually wrote mental notes. So when it got to the quiz, Meris was one of the few that didn’t let out a small sigh. He quickly wrote his answers, doubled checked just in case and turned the assignment into the teacher. He would look forward to what they learned next.

Neptune supposed that he should probably take a basic magic class... Maybe he had a talent there he hadn't seen? Yeah right........ Still, it would be nice to learn the basics, anyway. Maybe if he seemed to favor something he could continue with it into University if he ended up going...

He sighed partially in relief, but also in minor dread when he was told they had to define the terms of the day for their homework... This was going to be difficult...Dutifully, he opened up his textbook and searched for the terms to write down...

Yihad wasn't quite sure how hu had come to be in this class. Hu was into science and all that sort of stuff, not magic and all that came with it. No matter, hu was a litch. Litches were good at magic, and it wouldn't hurt to take this basic magic class. Maybe hu could get more out of it than hu thought?

Definitions, not exactly mind opening to most. Yihad however found some of this stuff to be rather intriguing. Maybe hu would take another magic class at a later time? For now though hu tried to get these words memorized into hus mind, turning it in to the teacher after hu believed to have it memorized and it was all written down. Hu made sure to turn his work in after the other students turned their assignments in first. You wouldn't want to get into an embarrassing social situation with hus fellow classmates right? Yihad sure didn't want to, and avoiding all ways of causing such was the logical way to not be in such situations.

User Image Thinking up a product and some of the ways magic could be used to make it better had been one of Coralie's more entertaining assignments. Smiling a little as she entered the classroom, the imp carefully set her paper down on the teacher's desk before making her way to her seat.

User ImageChries liked magic class. Well, he liked magic in general. He wanted to study it someday, when he had the chance. The first step on that path was to take magic in his junior year. Next year, he could take a class on enchanting. That would be lovely. But first, prerequisites...

Actually, today's class was on enchantment, more or less. Right up his alley, then. He was sitting in the front row, so it was his turn to begin with. He stood up and straightened his throat. "I use an anti-matting shampoo on my tail," he said. "It's got an enchantment on it to prevent matting that lasts for several days. I don't use it every day, but since the enchantment lasts for a while, it has the effect of using it every day. It means that I don't need to comb my tail nearly as often as normal." He hoped that was alright. When their teacher gave him a nod and turned to the next student, he resumed his seat with a sigh of relief.

An item they use every day that uses magic? Lior's entire life seemed to revolve around magical devices, this was definitely not a challenge. He waited until the teacher stated his name, which was the signal for him to speak. he then held up his crystal scanner - which was connected to a crystal earpiece that was settled into one of his ears. "This is my reader- I think it's an enchanted device? It reads the pages for me when I slide it over words, and then the earpiece tells me what it says. It's a lot more useful than just hoping everyone has braille...." He nodded a little, smiling a bit. "Just this device makes my quality of life a lot higher."

Ganymede had... a lot of items that used magic... But his favorite thing was his sketchbook. It had taken a couple months to save his allowance for the 10 pack, but it was well worth it! "I have some sketchbooks that are charmed to be waterproof... So if anyone spills stuff on them my drawings aren't ruined." He nodded a bit.. though he might have to check out that anti-matting shampoo that imp had talked about. He didn't have any fur- but that hair of his was starting to get long and easily tangled...

Hm. He examined the imp a little longer, lost in thought...
