A young red-headed woman lounged on the lowest tier of the Stands over-watching the hatching sands. This was idle time for her really. Something that happened, for her at least, only once a Turn; so at the start it was a novelty, but quickly she would become bored with the situation. Vosin knew her dragon loved the attention during this time. She would have preferred to be out doing something, instead of stuck around the weyr. It was something she silently went through for her dragon.
Peace Vosin. The wait is not that much longer. Killakeeth rumbled from where she lay on the hot sands; nearby her twenty-two eggs without crowding them. Her tail laid curled slightly in a half circle of a protective ring. She did not mind all the visitors who would come to admire her and her eggs, but she would rumble a warning if they tried to venture too close. The hatching will be soon and there will be plenty of excitement then. She had no issue sending her rider off to find something active to do when she got too restless.
That is true. Maybe you'll get another round of admirers soon, she teased the dragon.
About the only truly interesting thing right now was all the people coming to visit the sands to see the eggs. Soon though the candidates would come for the touching. Usually uneventful. Vosin studied the eggs herself. She always tried to get a feel of the eggs, not touching them, but the atmosphere. Killakeeth's first clutch had left an impression upon her; if asked, she would have said there was something sinister about that clutch. Thankfully, this one did not give off that feeling at all.

Kalendol hummed idly as she walked with her hands in her pockets. She'd been meaning to come and congratulate Vosin and Killakeeth. The girls had impressed in the same hatching after all, and Killakeeth was Kalendol's own dragon's sister; though, she didn't suppose dragons felt kinship like that with their clutchmates. It seemed that Kynigoth and Atibonth's sibling relationship was quite odd. Although, perhaps it was due to the infatuations of Kalendol and Jamarin that sparked the bond between the green and blue. Who knew for certain, but Kalendol now wandered towards the sands and stopped at the edge of the entry, her eyes narrowing on the eggs as she bowed at the waist and extended a hand forward in greeting to Killakeeth. "Good eve, Killakeeth. A beautiful clutch, as expected of your stunning visage." She addressed delightedly before looking up into the stands and spying Vosin. "Yo, Vosin! Long time no see!"
From somewhere above came a gentle shift in the air as Kynigoth herself made an appearance, alighting on a ledge near Killakeeth but far enough away to hopefully not cause the Gold any anxiety over her presence. <Killakeeth, my clutch mate, my how beautiful your eggs look. Now, onto pressing matters, what is it like to be a mother? Do you feel joy in watching your first clutch's hatchlings fly in their wings? Is there any attachment? You must tell all.> The invasive green quipped immediately, unashamed of speaking directly to the gold, not that she was sure Killakeeth would be troubled by this. <Of course my greetings to yours as well.> The bonded dragon hurred carefully and her tail slid over the dusty ledge carefully, drawing near her. The green's faceted eyes blinked towards the rider in question, then her own rider before she thoughtfully looked back at Killakeeth. <Are you not bored here on the sands?>
Reciproth is around. He just hasn't come over yet. If they talk to him he will answer

She was aware that dragons didn't have "mothers and fathers" and could interchangeably breed with clutch mates or even their dams. Dragons were unbiased in that subject, which she found didn't bother her much either. Only the strongest could fly the breeding crimsons or golds, the few that remained. She had figured she'd go and look at the clutch today. She was curious and wanted to see, for this clutch was almost special to her, even though it wasn't sired by her blue dragon.
You see, 7 (maybe 8 now?) turns ago she had impressed Reciproth from the same Gold who now had 22 eggs resting, covered in the sand.
Reciproth could feel her excitement and rejoiced all the same. I'll be the equivalent of an older brother now. He said with a simple laugh. He understood humans and dragons were far different from one another, but he understood how their family lines worked. He would never feel brotherly towards the others or have feelings of disgust for flying a Gold or even a Crimson if either came from this clutch to be laid. It was just how it was for Dragons. Humans on the other hand frowned upon such acts and would not tolerate such heinous actions.
She came towards the entrance of the stands and bowed graciously to the gold. "What a beautiful Clutch you have Killakeeth! I'm sure you're very proud." She said warmly as she stood up from her bow and looked around. She recognized Kalendol immediately and then spotted Vosin not to far away too. She hadn't spoken to Kalendol since before the relay. "Kalendol, it's a pleasure to see you." She said with a smile, there was no ill will towards her. "Vosin! I'm very much excited about this clutch." She said recalling not too long past that she had stood before the same rider and dragon at 21 turns, almost too old to impress and she, despite the odds, had impressed.

Whenever there was a clutch on the sands, Mirath was sure to visit it whenever she was able. Some mother golds and crimsons were touchy or protective and barely tolerated a Touching, but it seemed Killakeeth was not one of those. In fact she was more like Mirath, enjoying the attention and allowing visitors. Mirath was a social creature, and if there were people gathering, she was sure to show up. It would be better if the Candidates were there, since she did so love watching the little ones. But it would be their time soon enough.
Come on, Mine! I want to see the eggs, she insisted to Lia. The pair had just come back from a quick jaunt delivering a package, and Lia was taking a moment to wash up.
Calm down, they’re not going anywhere, Lia said as she dried off her hands. Just give me a moment to change out of my riding leathers. The Hatching Grounds are too hot to keep them on. But she did move quickly as she shrugged out of her jacket and slipped off her leather pants. She was curious to see the clutch as well. She’d heard rumor that they were surprisingly uniform, and she wanted to see that.
As soon as she was in clothes that better suited the weather, she and Mirath headed for the Hatching Grounds. The pair headed for a small group of other dragons, and Lia slipped down to join their riders. She looked over the clutch and remarked, “Wow, they really do all look alike. I’ve never seen such a thing. I wonder if it means something.”
Meanwhile, Mirath crooned a greeting to Killakeeth. Congratulations on your clutch! They all look lovely.
It was to her shame that it had taken her this long to come congratulate the mother-to-be and her rider. But she'd been busy (a sad excuse, but was truth). She had been nothing but proud of her wing lately, especially after the dragon games. However, winners of the relay they may have been, Arlii made sure each of them kept up their training and drills with as much fervor as they usually held. And that they kept their egos in check. No need to go around flaunting stuff in the other wings faces. She rather respected the other wingleaders and wanted to remain on good terms!
Oooooh do we get to see baby dragons yet, mine?! Erinaeth cooed in excitement as they glided towards the hatching sands. The crimson was a little disappointed with the response she got.
"Of course y'ain't seeing the hatchlings yet, you big wherry! They've not even hatched yet!" Arlii laughed at the droop in her bondeds posture as the two touched down just outside the Sands. Upon her cursory scan, she counted at least three dragons, one of which was without question, Killakeeth. Erinaeth told her there was a fourth dragon nearby too. "Alright then, keep to the outskirts so we don't upset ol' Killa, okay?" She patted her dragons leg before entering the Sands.
As she got closer, she recognized all present. "Greetings Lia. Kalendol. Naressa." She nodded to each of them in turn before turning a big grin towards the golden pair. "Ah, Killa! Y'stunning beauty, you. Look at all those eggs! Congratulations. And I'm sure you're just as excited too, Vosin, dear. How are the two of you fairing?"
HI KILLA! CONGRATULATIONS! I'm so excited for you! One very enthusiastic Erinaeth said in greeting after her rider.

One thing she had been completely astonished and baffled to explained was how the whole clutch had ended up with identical colors and markings. Vos had never heard of a clutch all being.. well identical. Did that mean all the hatchlings were identical? She'd queried the gold about it, but had only received non-committal answers.
As if her words had been a cue, company arrived. Vos sat up a bit straighter on the stone bench as a familiar voice called to her. She let Kalendol greet Killa before she replied, "Yo Kalendol!" The woman gave an easy wave to invite her up to her perch. "You been hiding from me?" She laughed.
As is only right, Killa rumbled to her rider. She looked fondly on the woman who greeted her and gave a tiny dip of her head in reply. Thank you Kalendol, the dragon replied to the woman directly before her attention shifted to the woman's green. Her eyes whirled with amusement at the barrage of questions from the green. Basking in glory and betting, for the gold love to bet on her own eggs almost as much as some humans, I enjoy seeing my babies hatch and find theirs. Did she feel attachment to her offspring? Not particularly unless they offered her something so, not really.
I shall pass along your greets, she replied calmly. Killakeeth gave an audible laugh at the question, when I have visitors such as you? No, I am not bored. Although my rider does gets antsy at times. I simply send her off for a bit. Her eyes glanced toward the others just entering. Thank you Naressa, I am.
"Naressa! Excited? Why are you excited?" It amused her that the blue rider was excited. She certainly couldn't be bored now. Vos watched Kalendol's green as she perched and clearly engaged Killa. Neither one of them could be bored now. More riders were coming in by the moment. She waved Lia to join the group. Vosin loved to be the center of a group. "Excellent timing Lia. I'd just been pondering that myself. Killa has no comment though. Now we can't discriminate the eggs by color." Merriment danced across her face. One couldn't describe an egg by its pattern or color when they all were that color and pattern. "Bets on Killa doing it just to snub us? And you can't bet Killa!"
What fun is that Vosin?! Killa broadcast to the party in mock indignation. Yes, yes they do don't they Mirath? Not her biggest clutch, if her rider's memories were correct, but she was pleased with it nonetheless. Her gaze turned toward the newest arrival. Congrats on your Relay win Arlii. That was well flown. I am not old. The last comment tossed in easily with much humor. She snorted at Erinaeth, well enough when my head does not ring. I believe the eggs might have heard you.
"Welcome Arlii! How fairs the wing?" Vosin greeted the wingleader. "Oh she's gotta rearrange them about twice a day, but not that I can tell any difference." When every egg looked alike... About the only true difference she thought she might see was in size. "I'll be glad to get out of here and take a long cool flight."

((Hahaha thank you all for coming to keep them company!))
It was a bit odd that every single egg looked identical to it's clutchmate. It would be hard to guess what sorts of dragonets were hiding within those sleek shells. Kalendol could only guess, and as such, she had decided to steer clear of the betting on colors and such. She'd never been very good at it to begin with, and starting to do it now would damage her pride all too greatly. "Yo Kalendol!" Vosin's voice reached her ears from the woman's perch and Kalendol began the task of taking on the stands, two steps at a time until she reached her pal. She grinned as her friend asked her such a silly question, "You been hiding from me?" Ah, what perfection. She remembered when she'd met the gal for the first time, they'd been so different yet a friendship had bloomed.
"Not at all, Vos, just been busy with... well... Jamarin came back." Kalendol's creamy cheeks turned vibrant crimson with a heated blush. It'd been no surprise that upon his return the pair had immediately sought each other's comfort, in bed and out. They'd always had a soft spot for one another, just as Kynigoth and Atibonth had had a soft spot towards one another and had been close since their impressions. Hearing Killakeeth's voice in her head always unnerved the rider slightly, simply because it wasn't as common as hearing your own dragon's voice. But all the same she smiled to the gold and dipped her head to acknowledge her words.
Soon, more riders began to join in the action of sitting with Vosin and keeping the eggs and dragon company. Naressa, a search rider that belonged to the same wing as Kalendol, approached and chirped her excitement to Vosin. A small smile mirrored on Kalendol's lips as she listened to Vosin's response on why the other woman would be excited. "Pleasure's all mine, Naressa. I never did get a chance to apologize for the games, it was certainly a poor hand-off; but my Kynigoth was certainly in pain." She shrugged, her lithe shoulders rising close to her ears and then falling back to their neutral expression.
As Lia joined the group, making the fourth rider there, Kalendol grinned. She didn't really know Lia and her bondmate well, though she could guess by the way Vosin spoke to her that she was a decent woman. Spotting the woman's Mirath soar down caught Kalendol's breath slightly. When she'd first been a candidate, at seventeen, she'd thought that the crimsons were more beautiful even than golds. They were slimmer, smaller, more delicate; but with a fierceness that matched the golds'. With double standards on what they could do, it made them even more versatile and attractive. They could either fight, or they could fly, and that was something that impressed Kalendol greatly. 'I could fly more too, if it'll please you, Mine.' Kynigoth pouted but was shrugged off lightly by her bondmate. With a dissatisfied huff the dragon returned to her conversations with the others.
"Hello, Lia. I don't believe we've had the luxury of really speaking. However, I was curious of the same thing when I saw the eggs." Listening to Vosin talk about how Killakeeth had no comment Kalendol laughed readily. "Sounds like something a dragon would do, just to be cheeky." She giggled, winking playfully towards the gold.
Arlii was the fifth to show up to the circle and Kalendol was pleased with the turnout of strangers. The only ones here she really knew were Vosin and Naressa. However, she knew their names and that would suffice for a conversation with the others. As Arlii came up, Kalendol grinned, "Greetings, Arlii." The crimson rider had turned her attention to Killakeeth and that gave Kalendol a chance to glance at Crimson Erinaeth. A lovely creature as well. 'Mine, you're not dissatisfied with me are you?' The invasive green would ask uncertainly and Kalendol laughed inwardly, looking towards her magnificent dragon. Of course not, Kyni. I'm merely admiring beauty. A thing you should try.
'Hmph, I don't see what's so pretty about the crimsons.' Came the response and Kalendol giggled softly to herself. Both rider and dragon returned their attentions to the others at that moment and Kalendol could hardly suppress the smile on her face. If only Jamarin and Atibonth would show up. Then it'd be a party. Maybe?
As all of this was happening an inquisitive dragon happened to be peering at the gold as she answered her questions. However, the responses she'd been given by the gold didn't really make her feel any better. Blinking her faceted eyes she snorted, 'So, you do feel enjoyment. I see. Not bored, well, I do suppose we are amazing visitors.' Came the jovial response. A flick of her whip-like tail and she carefully averted her attentions onto the other conversations around her.
'Hello, hello, Mirath and Erinaeth.' The creature chirped readily. Turning her eyes upon the skies she felt the presence of the blue's mind and a grin erupted her features as she lifted her green head proudly, 'Reciproth, are you present? Greetings, won't you join us? I'd love to discover if you've secrets to hide.' True to her nature, the invasive green was not above hiding her intentions.

She realized it might seem odd that she was excited and Vosin seemed to ask it aloud. She smiled and laughed lightly. "Oh well, seven turns ago when Killakeeth Clutched I impressed. And there are a few candidates around that are in their last years of candidacy so I saw this as a good sign is all." She said with a shrug. It was just interesting to her and that's why she was excited really.
She glanced around as more and more riders and their dragons appeared and she looked over at Kalendol as she apologized for the rather poor hand off. She waved her hand in a 'don't worry about it' sort of way. "I completely understand. It's water under the bridge and there are no hard feelings from me or Reciproth about it." She said with a warm smile to re-assure the green rider.
Her attention turned over towards Lia as she asked about the eggs and it had been something on everyones mind. They were oddly all the same color and almost similar in size. She wondered how that would turn out. Imagine if they all came out the same color. "It appears it is something we are all very much curious about." She figured it wouldn't effect the dragonettes at all, though she was certain people were taking bets on how many of what color were hidden beneath the shells.
Reciproth had remained where he was at a distance and then had decided to go and mingle with the others that had crowded the nesting grounds. He hadn't wanted to add another body to the mix, in case Killa got overcrowded. As if on cue a familiar voice filled his mind as Kynigoth asked if he would join. He chuckled as he flew into view and landed not far from the dragons that were already present. Are there not enough here to calm that curious nature of yours that you must seek out me as well? As he came into view of the gold he gave a bow his head to Killakeeth as he greeted her. Greetings Killakeeth. You are fairing well this day and your clutch is unique and stunning as ever. He said complimenting her graciously.

Arlii laughed at Killakeeth, giving her a light wave in agreement. "Alright, you ain't that old. Yet~" She teased lightly, giving the gold beauty a wink and turning to Vosin. The young woman had certainly come a long way! The wingleader had to admit she was proud of the girl.
"Thank ye, and it fairs pretty well, if I do say so. Rather proud of the mates I get to lead." And then she snorted at Vosin, glancing out towards the eggs. Which were rather interesting on their own. In all her turns, Arlii couldn't say she'd seen anything quite like them! "Leave it ta you, Killa, to make such impressive eggs."
Erinaeth had some decency to lower her head a bit in apology. Ah... I am sorry, Killakeeth! I'm just so excited about soon to be hatchlings! The crimson still had yet to venture too close. There were several dragons there already, as her rider has said. But she did turn her attention to the other dragons with them. Hello, Kynigoth! And Reciproth! And Mirath! She was most definitely happy to see all of them.
Arlii grinned at the returned greeting from the other crimsonrider. "Kalendol, I hope you fair well too?" She asked, looking to Naressa and Lia and extending the same greeting. "As are you two, I hope?"

The woman snickered knowingly. "Of course I would say don't let me keep you. There are worst things to keep you busy." It amused her greatly that Kalendol had paired off solidly and Kynigoth with Atibonth. Some relationships ended in being long time weyrmates, and others just part time. Like herself for instance; Vosin wasn't sure she'd ever settle down. Not when she could spread the love around to all the bronze and brown riders. Over all it kept things lively, just how she liked it.
Vos tilted her head as Naressa pointed out there were candidates about to age out. "Ah, so they are feeling the pressure." Maybe she needed to have a talk with the candidatemaster or the candidates themselves. She didn't want someone desperate to Impress make a stupid move. Some family placed a lot of pressure on a child if they were selected as a candidate to walk away with a dragonet.
Greetings completed for the moment, Killakeeth nudges a couple of her eggs into new positions until she was satisfied. The gold then turned the tables on Kynigoth, when do you expect to fly? Are you going to let Atibonth win? You really should make him earn it. Killa nodded her head as Reciproth also joined the dragon's group. Thank you. How does you and yours fair this day Reciproth?
The wingleader Arlii got her full attention again, of course. Beauty before age. As if she was going to let age stop her! The gold gave a pleased rumble and looked smug. Well someone had to! Can't let you all get stale with the same old boring thing. The weyr was never going to be boring with Killa around! Erinaeth received a soothing croon. Never fear, we are all looking forward to them hatching.
Vosin nodded to hear how Arlii's wing was. "Excellent! I look forward to seeing good things out of you and them." That was one thing she was truly envious of the wingriders. Albeit, she had quite a bit more freedom now than before; she just felt that she might be missing something by being only in the queen's wing. Thankfully she still got to fly Threadfall!

Fyi, if Reciproth is 7 Turns and clutched by Killa, she'd have had at least 6 other clutches since then. XD I think that's how the count goes.
Kalendol flushed heatedly and ducked her head at her friend's gentle teasing. She'd picked Jamarin from the very beginning, he'd had most of the things she'd favored. Since they were given their choice, instead of being forced to sleep with whoever won their dragons, finding Jamarin in her bed had been the simplest thing she'd done. She remembered the flight that had her running through the rain to Jamarin's door and flinging herself into his soothing arms. It'd been Kynigoth's first flight. Her first time dealing with her dragon's emotions. Blinking now, the woman pulled herself out of her thoughts and pursed her lips slightly together in a resemblance of a pout. 'You shouldn't think such things when I'm near the gold, especially with eggs on the sand.' It was hard to mistake the haze of purple that'd swirled briefly in Kynigoth's eyes. Kalendol ducked her head and blew her dragon a mental kiss, 'Sorry, Kyni. I lost myself for a moment.' She apologized quickly.
"Are there?" The green rider questioned. Kalendol hadn't paid too much attention to the candidates that would be participating, she'd been preoccupied. Not as though she paid much attention to candidates anyways. Greens didn't clutch so there was no need to. Blinking, she cocked her head and tapped a long finger to her lips as Vosin mentioned them feeling the pressure. Kalendol hadn't been searched, nor did her family really care whether she impressed or not. After all her brothers had been aged out and rejected, she'd found herself thinking perhaps it was for her. Her coming to Benden at the time of Kynigoth's hatching had been pure luck. But she was satisfied. "No doubt, the pressure could make things difficult in the hatching." She frowned. Had there been many troubles with pressured candidates? Had candidates ever lost their heads due to pressure and uncertainty? She wondered.
As Arlii returned her greeting the greenrider grinned. She enjoyed hearing the woman's voice, despite not knowing her too well. "I fair pretty well. My thighs have healed nicely since the dragon games, and Kynigoth's sides are nearly fully healed. We made too many mistakes." 'Not my fault.' Kynigoth snorted into her rider's head and shook her head from her perch, irritation in her gaze.
Kynigoth turned her thoughts from her rider as the voice of the blue filled her mind. 'There are never enough secrets to curb the appeal. Besides, I've found blues to hold the most amazing secrets.' The dragon cooed sweetly with a chuckle of fondness for the younger dragon. She'd almost forgotten that he'd been from Killakeeth's clutch seven turns ago, which was funny, considering that'd make her his aunt of sorts. At least in human terms. Ah well, a male was a male. While she, a female, had every intent of flirting.
'Erinaeth, was the choice for you difficult?' She requested the information readily. The dragon never curbed her curiosities. Blinking towards the crimson she grinned, 'And yours, Mirath?' She was curious of how the crimsons could choose between one path or the other and make it count. It was fascinating. She would choose if she'd had the option to, but really flights for her were just amazing.
Speaking of, Killakeeth's words echoing in her mind forced her to chuckle. 'I'm sure after your clutch has hatched I'll fly. Though, dear, Atibonth refuses to fly for anyone. Seems folks believe our relationship is more than it is. We're just friends. Jamarin and Kalendol may be weyrmates but I do not think Atibonth would see any female as such.' Kynigoth chuckled and shook her head carefully before glancing toward the sky. 'Since Jamarin returned though, I've been feeling the need to rise. Naturally, those with the best secrets will earn the chance to take my nest for the night!' She trilled jubilantly.
