Ustule had taken herbalism at the urging of her caregiver, who suggested she take it so that she could learn more about the natural area (since that seemed like a big deal for his new charge) and make some friends. So it was with a mixture of shock, delight, and devastated sorrow, that Ustule found out that the subject of their first class was...plants of the far, far north, and the far, far south. She colored her pages delicately and intricately, recalling the designs of each and every one of the plants she remembered, and adding notes where descriptions were insufficient. She knew what she would write about tonight!
The next morning, she walked briskly to class, the paper clutched to her chest. She tugged at Mr. Datura's sleeve and handed him her paper, eager for his response.
Purple saxifrage is the first flower to bloom in the spring, appearing as purple flowers on top of the snow. The flowers are very small, smaller than a pinky claw, and they are actually edible. They are bitter when you first try them, but after a second or two, they are sweet. They grow in small clumps across the tundra, growing very close to the ground, although really all plants grow really close to the ground in the North. They have very small leaves, too, and only one flower per stalk. They grow very far north, even north of Frostfyre and Death's Kiss! It also grows high up in the mountains. We would go searching for them in late winter; the first one to bring back a flower got a treat. I love purple saxifrage because it reminds me of home and spring and my friends. We call it spring-herald back home.
She watched him for his response. "Thank you for teaching us about Northern plents," she added.
After musing over the quiz for quite a while, Victoria handed it in, confident that she had passed. Whit a smile, she finally left the room, tail swaying behind her. Soon enough she'd find out she was right! ...right?

Meris let out a small sigh of relief. He wasn’t sure why he had decided to take a botany class. Maybe because he had a horrid green thumb and he did like plants. Still he was glad that so far it was just a scavenger hunt. It gave him more time until he actually had to touch a plant. Oh this wasn’t his best idea ever but maybe the elective would be fun.
Right now though he flipped the book open and studiously poured through the different types finding the oils the teacher wanted them to find. After finding all five he quickly wrote down his findings and turned the assignment into the teacher.
Rocks were more Batholith's style, but plants were an important part of geology, right? Breaking up rocks, leaving their impressions in them...so he was just a tiny bit disappointed when their class was about oils. The disappointment didn't last long, luckily--it was actually rather interesting to find out how plants could be used to help people out. He'd always dismissed herbalism out of hand, but hey, home remedies? Those could be...useful. He made some notes on the ones he thought sounded more useful--like that anxiety thing--and turned in his scavenger hunt with a smile. He was glad he had chosen this elective!

Herbalism sounded like a class Yihad would like, and so far it seemed like it would be just that. Sure the teacher seemed to have more enthusiasm than Yihad usually liked, but hu wasn't the center of the teacher's attention so it didn't affect hum much. It didn't take much time at all for Yihad to finish the quiz, slipping out if hus seat quietly and trying to not get any of the other student's attention. Strange enough, hu succeeded at hus stealth mission and was soon turning in hus quiz to Corben.
In Jezebeth's mind Herbalism was the coolest class on campus. She loved learning about nature and plants, and as such she just had to take it as an elective. She was happy that it had freshling classes and the teacher seemed very friendly. She came into class that day ready to hand in the report she had written up the night before, she had chosen to write about the arctic poppy because she loved its yellow color.
The arctic poppy is a really cute yellow plant that actually has green leaves all year round! The plant can gather enough nutrients to stay green even in the colder weather. Once the weather turns warm again, new leaves will be produced before the old ones will wither and fall away. The plant stays really warm on the inside because of the way it's yellow petals cup and draw in the sunlight. It has truly adapted to live in the cold environment that it does!
She turned in her report and than sat down next to Enoukn in the classroom. She settled in for the rest of the class, eager to learn more about the plants that she loved so much. When the class was finally over she made her way to Corben's desk, they had a very important question to ask the teacher!
"Mr. Corben, could we ask you some questions!" Her wings fluttered anxiously behind her. She so hoped he had the answers they were looking for!

Enoukn decided that Mr. Corben had to be probably the coolest, if not luckiest, teacher at the academy. He knew all sorts of things about plants, and what's more he got to teach about them! It was not too far to say that Enoukn almost instantly idolized Mr. Corben. Surely, this paragon of plant life would be able to pin down on the problem they were having with their little tree!
Still, to that effect, there was still the homework that was due, and Enoukn had more than happily thrown himself into the assignment with abandon. For if there was one thing that got Enoukn excited and working - it was nature. Plants, animals - didn't matter. If it lived outside and grew and thrived, Enoukn wanted to know about it. So there it was that after a night of study with his best and most trusted friend, Enoukn turned in his report.
The arctic willow is a shrub plant that is eaten by a lot of animals native to its climate. It is also called a "tongue plant" because of the shapes of its leaves. It is classified as a dwarf shrub plant because it is very small, because the areas in which it grows do not offer a very hospitable environment for it to grow. Because of how thin the soil is where the arctic willow grows, it cannot form very deep roots, so it can't grow very tall! But it still gets plenty of nutrients to grow and help feed the animals that eat it! This is important because there is not a lot of plant life that can feed larger animals in the region.
Turning in the homework, he was quite pleased when Jezebeth came to sit next to him. It was so much better to have class with a friend! Still, he payed a lot of attention during class - since plants were one of his favorite things to learn about. He was hoping Mr. Corben would touch on something that might help them with his and Jezebeth's current problem.
Once class ended and Jezebeth got up to approach Mr. Corben's desk, Enoukn quickly followed, standing next to her he nodded his head quickly in assent to her statement. "May we? Please?" This was a matter of plant-life-or-death! They didn't have any time to lose!
Oh, questions! Corben perked up, expression immediately lighting up with a wide smile. He loved questions, oh yes~ and it seemed two of his new freshling students had them! How wonderful. He trotted on over to stand in front of them so he wouldn't disturb the others still working on their projects.
"Of course you can! What can I help you two with?"
aaand the rest of this will be carried out in the RP BUT i went ahead and addressed them here c:

I need a word...
After passing out the graded assignments, Corben stopped by Yihad's desk to speak with hum about hus quiz... "You got everything but #4 right! I'm not sure where you got three of those herbs from, they weren't mentioned in the section we covered at all. Keep an eye out for errors like that, okay? You were one point off from not passing!" He smiled a little, and then continued on his way.
Yihad did pass.

Frowning a little as she went through her book and compared it to the list of descriptions, Coralie found her head swimming a little. After what felt like ages of carefully flipping between the two and comparing everything minutely, the imp female figured she'd done the best she possibly could.
Closing her book, she got up and took the work to the teacher and handed it in.

Sighing in satisfaction as she finished the quiz, Zahneel took a moment to check over her spelling and to make sure that she hadn't missed any questions. Finding nothing amiss, She held up her hand and waited patiently for her quiz to be collected.
And once it passed from her hands to those of the teacher, the young grimm relaxed into her seat and read quietly while she waited for the rest of the class to finish.
