Chailee deposited her messenger bag in a vacant seat in the burger joint. In truth, most of the seats were vacant seeing that it was a bit of an odd hour at quarter to three. Most people at this point weren't really considering getting dinner but Chay had spent a large portion of her day out riding and needed something to sustain her until later that evening.

She had changed form her dusty riding clothes but her hair was still pulled up into a ponytail and whisps were falling out along with the tell tale signs of frizz. The humidity, her helmet, and sweat made the worst combination and nothing would fix it but a shower which she'd get when she got home. With it being so hot out there wasn't much she could do until then.

With her stuff in the small booth, Chay grabbed her wallet and hopped up into the line. She didn't take long to debate on what she wanted. After all, she came to a burger joint to get the main menu item. A burger.

Walking up to the counter she leaned over slightly to glance around the back of the counter to see if anyone was nearby to wait on her. Absently, she tucked a rather large chunk of hair that had come free to tickle her face back behind her ear. She'd need to re-do her hair again before she ate.

During the time between shifts and slow hours, the supervisor decided that would be a good time to catch up on whatever he’d missed of whatever game was being played that day. Working the weekend wasn’t as horrible as it could have been, but it would be nice if his replacement would show up on time once in a while.

He was in the middle of trying to clean up the floor in the back when he noticed someone standing at the front. Not wanting a reason to be yelled at, he quickly set the broom to the side and made his way towards the register.

“Are you ready to order?” he asked before finally looking up to realize he recognized the girl. His cheeks flushed lightly in embarrassment. “Chailee, hey…” It wasn’t that he was embarrassed with having a job at a crappy burger place, per say, but how many other newly sixteen-year-olds were working on the weekend?

Chailee watched as the boy she had met at the lake came up to the counter. She was surprised at first. The last thing she had expected was to find someone she knew working here. "Hi, Ilian." She smiled. "I didn't know you worked here."

The thought of working on the weekend was a bit, well, depressing to the 15 year old but at the same time she respected Ilian for having picked up a part-time job somewhere to support himself. It was a really adult thing to do and not something that Chay could see herself being adult enough to do within a year.

Well, to be honest, between school and senshi life she wasn't sure she'd be able to handle having a part-time job. She needed to sleep at some point and after school naps had become a staple for her. There was no way she could picture herself giving up that little bit of rest. Thankfully her parents hadn't even made the slightest inkling that they wanted her to get a job when she hit 16. Then again, she had only celebrated her 15th birthday a few months ago.

A bell rang and she glanced behind her to see some more people coming in and pondering their orders. Biting her lip she glanced a the menu briefly. "I'll take a number 5 with a Sprite. Um, are you almost done for today? I don't mind sticking around and waiting for you to get done if you wanna hang out?"

”Yeah,” he said lamely, still trying not to be too embarrassed that someone he knew was now ordering burgers from him. He should be grateful he had any job at all. It wasn’t as though he was from a wealthy family like Lovely, and he wasn’t lucky enough to be adopted like Jericho, but he was doing his best to get by on his own, despite how lonely it was sometimes.

He rang up her order once it was placed, and looked up to see that his replacement was finally slinking into the place so he could clock in. “That’s five ten,” he said, waiting for her form of payment before taking it and making sure he completed the transaction and handing her a receipt. “I’m actually getting off right now. Well, as soon as I get someone to relieve me. I was supposed to be off a few minutes ago,” he added, trying not to sound too annoyed that someone much older than him couldn’t even make it to work on time. The guy probably had a car, too.

“I don’t mind,” he said with a shrug, not wanting her to wait there if she had somewhere else to be. “I’ll meet you out here in a little?”

Chay slipped her change into her wallet and nodded. "That's perfect then! I'll be over there." She indicated a table for two over by the window where the sun was shinning in. "No rush, I don't have anywhere I need to be right now."

Hearing a shuffle of people behind her, Chay glanced back and noticed that the group that had walked in were now waiting just behind her. She shifted down the counter and awaited her burger and fries which another worker was setting up on a tray for her.

Once everything was all there, Chay grabbed her tray. She made a pit stop at the condiments to grab some ketchup, salt and napkins before settling herself at the table she had indicated to IIian. Setting her tray down she slipped her bag off of her shoulders before sitting down and tucking the messenger bag along her feet.

Hunger was winning out though and she turned her attention to the burger. She quickly unwrapped it and pulled off the pickles that were lodged between the top of the bun and tomato and smothered in mayo. She didn't mind though and just put them off to the side. She always forgot to mention no pickles. With that taken care of she took a bite of the burger and glanced up to see if Ilian had been relieved from his counter position yet.

Ilian watched as Chailee went over to her table before turning to take the orders of the other people who just came in. It was… almost strange for him to actually have someone who wanted to “hang out” as it were. He wasn’t entirely sure how to, to be honest.

Regardless, it was a nice change, and he quickly finished up with his customers. He didn’t even bother saying anything to his replacement, but instead hung up his apron, washed his hands, and made his way out to the main dining area. He wasn’t allowed any free food for working there, so he would just have to wait until he got home to eat, but he didn’t mind.

“Do you live around her?” he wondered when he finally was able to sit down, hoping she didn’t mind that he probably smelled like grease from working. He didn’t think it was strange at all when she didn’t seem to want the pickles, but he eyed them anyway. It wasn’t weird if he asked if she was going to eat them or not, was it?

"Well, not too far from here." She smiled and took another quick, small bite of her burger. She noted his glance at her pickles as she munched down on the bite she had taken. It didn't take her long to swallow the small bite and she nabbed up her soda before shoving her tray between the two of them. "I am not going to eat the fries and pickles if you want them." Truthfully Chay rarely ever finished her fries. She tended to nit pick at them at most. Why not let them actually get eaten for a change?

She took another sip of her soda before placing it down. "So, how long have you been working here? I don't come in here too often. Only when I am really craving a greasy burger." She smiled and put her burger down to add a bit of ketchup to it from the small supply she gathered. The little packets were always so skimpy when it came to the amount of product in them.

"If you want to ketchup have at. I've got more than enough here." She gestured to her pile of packets. After dowsing her burger with three of them she happily replaced the bun again.

Ilian looked up at her curiously for a few moments, not taking her up on her offer immediately because he didn’t want to seem like he was starving or something crazy like that. He had enough food to eat, normally. Just not a lot of variety.

“I mean… if you don’t mind,” he mumbled, slowly reaching out to take one of the fries, although he felt a bit guilty for doing so. He would just wait until he was sure she was done eating before grabbing anything else.

“Not too long. I just turned sixteen at the end of July, so that’s when I got the job. It’s not a bad place, I just don’t like smelling like food all the time,” he admitted. “And I have to be careful about getting grease all over my clothes. I’m trying to save up some to go to college eventually. I don’t know if I’ll be lucky enough to get any scholarships, so I figured I’d start saving now,” he said with a small shrug. In reality, he probably wouldn’t be able to afford college, so his best bet was to just keep playing the piano and hoping he could make a living off of that.

He eyed the packets of ketchup, too… but he didn’t take any just yet. He didn’t like taking the packets from the place he worked to refill the bottle he had at home. Other places were free game, though.

She nodded. "Yea! Feel free to eat them. They'll just get thrown away anyway." Chay bit into her burger again. Much better with the Ketchup.

"Well, smelling like food isn't too bad. Could you imagine what garage men smell like every day after work?" She wrinkled her nose at the thought of it. "But smelling like grease every day I bet gets old. It's really neat though that you're working so hard towards a goal like college!"

Picking p her soda she sipped at it for a moment. "So what do you do when you're not working or at school? Do you have any hobbies? Or do you spend most of your time with Lovely? The two of you seem pretty close."

She took another bite of her burger before popping the last little bit in her mouth and wiping her hands off on a napkin. As greasy as it was that was so good.

Eventually, Ilian took one of the ketchup packets to open and use by squeezing out the ketchup on each individual fry that he slowly took from the tray. This way none of the ketchup would go to waste, and he wouldn’t have to scrape dried ketchup off the tray when he was at work next. He figured it was a little weird to eat them like that, but he was doing it slow enough so Chailee would still be able to eat what she wanted.

He shrugged lightly when she said how it was neat he was working hard to get to college. Really, he just wanted to be able to do something in his life that he knew his brother wanted him to. He hadn’t dropped out of high school because of Sorin, and he was going to attempt to get into college because of him as well. It was the least he could do.

Of course, when Lovely was brought up, Ilian snorted at the thought of them being close. “Lovely’s my rival,” he said before figuring he should offer some more detail. “We both play the piano. I met him at a competition,” he explained. His face drew into a tiny grin, “Lovely won.” Yes, but that was only because the competition was based on the perfect execution of the piece. Even Lovely asked him what the hell he’d been doing, making the piece his own rendition. If the audience had their way, after listening to the same piece over and over again, Ilian would have won.

"What about you?" he asked, finally reaching out to take the pickles now that she seemed to be done with her burger. He didn't want her to ball up the wrapper without grabbing them first.

Chailee watched curiously as Ilian meticulously put ketchup on each fry that he ate. She'd never seen anyone do that before and she began to wonder why he did or who he picked it up from. None-the-less she didn't say anything. She was quite content to muse about it quietly to herself.

Her brow furrowed a bit at the mention of Lovely being his rival. Sure they had teased each other a lot at the lake but she didn't get the feeling that they were really against one another. "Friendly rivals then. I don't think rivals would give each other rides or hang out at fun events. But I didn't realize you -both- played the piano!" She perked up a bit and sat forward. "I bet it's a lot of fun to compete. It's a fun way that the two of you met anyway." Chay had never really felt comfortable competing, not like that anyway. When she and Willow were in a competition she always felt people were more focused on Willow than on herself. That always helped keep her calm and focused. To sit or stand on a stage where all the focus was on her...oh no. No, no, no. She was pretty sure she'd be sick if that happened.

"Um, well, I like to read. A lot." She chuckled. "I like to spend a lot time at the stables too with my horse, Willow. Then, if I have time, I also play flute." She tried her best to gloss over the fact she played an instrument. She didn't much think she'd compare to someone who competed. She mainly played for the school band and for herself cause she enjoyed the sound of the instrument.

"I am really not all that exciting." She smiled. "But I manage to keep myself entertained."

Ilian snorted once more as he popped one of the pickle slices into his mouth. “Lovely’s not very friendly. I think he pities me, if anything,” he explained, picking at a couple more fries now that she seemed to be done with her food. Still, he would happily take pity to being lonely all the time. He considered Lovely his friend, but he would understand if Lovely just kept him around because he felt bad for him.

“That sounds fun. Playing the flute and having a horse, I mean. I’m no good with wind instruments,” he said, picking up on mention of music and instruments easier than he would about anything else. It wasn’t his fault that it was the only thing he really enjoyed. “I play some lacrosse at school, but I’m not very good. Are you planning on going to college? Do you know what for, if you are?” he wondered, not wanting to push the conversation, but also curious about what she did.

"Hm, I think you're cutting Lovely short. I am pretty sure he thinks of you as a friend. I mean, he doesn't seem like the type who would just hang out with someone because he pities them." Grabbing her soda again she took another sip from it before balling up her hamburger paper.

"I love to listen to others play piano but I am terrible at playing the piano myself. I have a hard time using both of my hands so separately from each other." She shrugged. "You'll have to let me know when you're playing in a competition again! I'd love to hear you play!" She smiled, truly interested in listening to him play. After all, she loved music, just didn't have as much time as she wished to immerse herself in it.

"Oh gosh, I don't really do sports besides riding." She chuckled. "I can't even imagine trying to play a game like lacrosse. I'd probably hurt myself in the process." She paused at his next question and sat back in her chair. "I want to go to college. Knowing my parents they'll make sure I go, but I am not sure what I'd major in. I was thinking about becoming a vet but I am not really sure yet. I've got a few more years to think about it though so I am not too worried. What about you? What do you want to major in?"

As nice as it was to think that Lovely considered him to be a friend, Ilian knew better than to expect that from the other. Sure, he tolerated him, but he'd told him before that he wasn't a friend, just the closest thing he had to one.

"Yeah, does Lovely have your number? I don't have a phone, but I can give it to him and he can let you know the next time there's a competition. They're awfully boring, though. There's always a set piece and the judges like everyone to play it exactly as it was written with no emotion or expression. It's horrible."

He tried not to let it be obvious that the idea of riding a horse was kind of daunting to him. Maybe because he'd never been on anything higher than his bike, buy the thought of being on an actual living animal was... kind of terrifying. "Don't people get hurt riding horses?" he asked, trying not to sound nervous about it. I wasn't as if she was telling him he should ride or anything like that, but still. He knew Lovely had a horse and was just as in danger as she was of getting thrown or trampled or hit in the face with a low hanging branch.

"Probably music theory, or something like that. I want to play professionally, but a lot of piano schools like to see competition wins, which I don't have. My dad played and my mom was a music therapist, so I figured I'd try out what they did."

"Um. Now that you mention it I don't think I ever gave him my number." She mused for a moment. "No...I don't think I did." Reaching down and into her bag she pulled out a notebook and pen. Carefully she ripped off two pieces of paper that would fold up to reasonable sizes and write her number down on them. "There, you can give one to Lovely and you can hold on to one."

"But...I don't know if I'd like hearing the same piece over and over again. Especially if it's so...straight forward. The point of music is to express yourself through it and allow your audience to interpret what they want from it. Not to be mechanical. Maybe I'll just have to convince the two of you to play for me at another time." She giggled and winked.

Grabbing her soda again she took another sip from it to be met with the tell tale sound of a slurping straw. "Well, yes. But it's not something that's the norm. I mean...I've never really been injured riding. Sure, riding for long periods of time when you aren't use to it hurts, but if you're on a calm horse and know what you're doing or have someone with you who knows what they're doing it's unlikely you'll get hurt." She shrugged. "I never really thought about possibly getting injured before while riding."

"Give me a sec." Slipping out of her seat, Chay got up and went back to the soda fountain to refill her cup, making sure to put some extra ice in. Within a minute or so she returned to the table with a refilled cup and didn't miss a beat in the conversation. "Music theory could be really interesting to study. I bet you could major in music performance. I am sure there's schools out there who would happily take you in if you really want it bad enough. It's neat that you know what you want to do with yourself after high school. I bet it helps you streamline what to focus on now."
